I nearly want to cry, I've been trying to do the curly girl method for years, but nothing works. My scalp is greasy, and I have fine thin hair, I never use heat, I just let it air dry, and I use the products I see people reccomend, but nothing has worked. After one night of sleeping my hair is greasy and all my curls are gone. But seeing that you have similar hair as mine makes me think I can finally find something that works for once. Thank you so much!
You’re not alone! I was in the same boat for so so long and followed the CGM for YEARS and it just wouldn’t click. I have fine hair and an oily scalp too. Within the past year, my curls have finally started looking good and liking products. All my wavy curl knowledge is from Courtney so I highly recommend checking out all her content because it’s been life changing, especially her swing curl clumping videos. What helped me was just taking a break from all the CGM craziness. I just washed and conditioned and let it be. I chopped my hair off and started highlighting a bit and strangely enough, that’s when my curls flourish the best. It just goes to show that what works for one person won’t always work for others. So don’t get discouraged, just relax, work on the health of your hair, and let your hair figure itself out❤️
Drugstore haircare has seriously improved over the years and I'm glad they're getting so much less hate now! Unfortunately many hairstylists and brand sponsors will promote the higher end haircare brands, even if they don't *love* said brand's products. I'd love for you to do a drugstore bond repair showdown, I hear many of those are great dupes for higher ends. As someone who pinches pennies like crazy I'm quite hesitant to buy higher end.
I have very coarse, frizzy, curly hair. Whenever I hear someone say something is too heavy I know it is a product I need to try 😂 👩🦱.
Me too and I agree best gel for me is biosilk hard hold gelee.
Kinky Curly knot today leave-in is a product that I keep going back to. I'll cheat on her with more expensive, fancier leave-ins, but I always go back. It just works.
I like that one too but actually prefer the Sally beauty generic of paul mitchell The detangler.
Does it make good curl clumps?
Neither product really helps with curl clumps for my wavy hair.@@alicesings1971
I totally agree
Kinky Curly Come Clean is my favorite……since Neutrogena discontinued my first favorite.
We have totally different hair but yet we share a lot of favorites! Some of these products are so versatile! The Kinky Curly shampoo also removes hard water minerals and their leave in can also be used as a daily conditioner too!
Just wanted to say, your videos brighten my day. Thank you🎉
I was super hesitant to use Pantene because of everything I have heard about all that silicone building up on the hair but I gave it a shot with their miracle rescue mask and I am BLOWN AWAY!!! my hair is still super soft and pretty much tangle free on day 6!!! I wear my hair up in a messy bun and sleep in it every night. By the next wash day (usually day 7) it's a complete rats nest and takes a lot to detangle it. I will definitely keep this in rotation! Thank u for changing my mind!
Great video! Thanks for the suggestions! This is exactly what I've been looking for!!
Courtney, there are 3 products here I am totally getting. Thank you♥️
Oh my gosh I needed this! Thank you ❤
I love Kinky Curly for my fall and winter ❄️ gel (low humidity months).
Would love a video on scalp oils and how to actually apply them well.
Thanks for posting stuff for course hair.
Your education is so great! Using NYM shampoo/conditioner, Knot Today and Harry’s now because of you. Thinking of trying mousse next ✌️
my fave drugstore gel is the harry's sculpting gel. if you want a super hard hold i would highly recommend it
does it get flaky?
@@f14rar I have not experienced any flakiness from it!
I can never find it!
Great video, Courtney! Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
NYM Tahitian shampoo and conditioner are really great. Their Curl Talk products, however did nothing darn it. I really need to try that rosemary oil ❤️
I'm just starting my wavy hair "journey" and I'm super excited to see most of my current products in this video! There is so much out there and I just got overwhelmed after watching a billion videos. So I bought the entire NYM line basically. 😂
You got this!
I feel like the NYM line is a rite of passage haha
@ioanaschifirnet3814 lol. everything is just so inexpensive.
I have tried the shea moisture conditioner and I did find that I needed a more intense conditioner and my scalp seemed to mildly react to that product. So I swapped to the Cantù conditioner that you have recommended in the past, and it works wonders for my hair.
You should try the Monday Smooth shampoo and conditioner! And the native curl shampoo and conditioner
Thank you so much for sharing this! I have newly found waves after menopause has started. But loving with the waves are soft!
Me, too! I finally have the hair I wanted when I was a kid 😊
I'm not exactly a total novice at this, but still barely educated. I bought a trial set of the Not Your Mother's gel, mouse and curl cream. I had some great hair days (and some not so great) but when I was running out I thought I should try some other products, you know, education. And other things didn't work so great. I'm watching this shortly after returning from the store with the full size gel and mousse. And I wish I'd seen this first because there's a couple things I might have tried instead. But at least I know that what I did get should work relatively well. Thanks for a very helpful video.
Great tips and suggestions ❤ ➿🪮thx
Awesome video!!
Lots of my favourites in this video!
That is so cool!!
EXCELLENT video!! Very informative!! As always I appreciate all of your content!! You are absolutely DELIGHTFUL❤!!!! Your friend Tj from the heart of Missouri
Thank you so much!
Just wanted to say thank you for your videos and encouragement! They have been so helpful to me on my wavy hair journey. On another note, I also love the sweater you are wearing in this video! Any chance you know where you bought it or have the link? Thank you!
This is very useful - thank you. I'm just starting out but I can say that I have had the best luck with NYM Curl Talk Gel and the Strictly Curls Foam, used in combination - like you said, with gel first and the foam after. I have medium and fine hair (depends on where on my head) with medium density - midway down my back. Used together I get a reasonably solid cast and not too much frizz. We'll see what I think after a few more washes.
My favs are Not Your Mama’s Curl Talk conditioner and Marc Anthony Strictly Curl Envy curl cream.
I'll be watching this video multiple times. ❤
I too hated the results with apply gel over mousse. I will try mousse over gel. Thanks you for the tip.
I started using oil for my sculpt and ive already can my baby hairs are coming in very fast in just a couple of weeks and my greys are becoming softer!
I have fine hair and I love the marc anthony strictly curls mousse too. I have also been loving doves dandruff shampoo. I find it to be mild but effective.
Awesome recommendations. Would love a good drugstore recommendation for hairspray or even texture spray.
22:45 This might fit what you are looking for. 🤗
I have been using the Aussie instant freeze for over 15 years on and off. I remember there was a time where it used to say it had "cherry bark extract" as a key ingredient. I don't remember there being any aloe in it at the time (at least in the Canadian version). I have always loved it despite the reformulations and repackaging.
Ahhhhh mousse AFTER gel!!! Thank you!!!!
Your welcome!
I have hair similar to yours, and was honestly surprised you liked the Camille Rose Curl Maker so much. I'm not knocking it--it seems like it would be a good product for hair that is less fine and more porous than mine. It has a lot of oils in it, which weighed my hair down. My hair also felt dirty a lot faster than normal, maybe because the product remains slightly sticky.
I do quite like the Kinky Curly Curling Custard, though. I have to put something else on top of it, but it's a great "base layer." Thanks for mentioning a few good (hard) gels and mousses! I need to find some new ones.
Will you do videos on different weeks hair products that you have just shown us, please? 🎉🎉🎉
I am not a big shea moisture fan. They usually weigh down 2a-c hair. However, Come Clean is the best clarifying shampoo out there.
I think there really is sorcery in shea moisture shampoos and conditioners.
I initially thought I couldn’t try the shea moisture conditioner but then you said you were slightly allergic too. Maybe I’ll give it a try.
Oh Courtney. Now I will need an even bigger box to store my products! Either that or "downsize" my husbands bathroom cupboard contents 😂.
I too prefer Marc Anthony vs the Not your Mothers foam.
Is there a drug store protein rich shampoo or conditioner you like?
Off to Ulta and Walmart...
I like the not your mother’s conditioner 3 in 1 that can be used as a co-wash, or a washout or a leave in. But not that shampoo for the line. Pacifica has a shampoo that is pineapple scented but I don’t really care for the smell, but it does have protein in it I believe I know the conditioner of that line does
Curious about the Shea ACV anti dandruff shampoo--would that be considered clarifying as well?
Thanks, Courtney! If I'm using a curl cream (i.e. Cantu Moisturinzing Curl Activator or NYM Defining Curl Talk Cream) do I still need a leave in conditioner, or do they meet that need for me?
Your hair looks FANTASTIC ‼️I’ve been wanting to try those Not Your Mothers products. Thanks for sharing. 🧝♀️😻
Thank you! Glad the info. helped!
Your hair looks great in this video. What products did you use?
This is a Kinky Curly one brand washday! That video will go live very soon! Keep your eyes peeled!
I have a hair shedding issue. I lose clumps of hair in the shower, but I am not going bald. I am not sure if I need something high in protein or what. I hope you can do a video on this.
The link for the Not Your Mother’s gel- goes to the maximum hold gel( no biggie) I’ve tried the max hold hoping it was just a bit stronger than the original gel. Yikes.. it was awful🌸
Need unscented options, I get migraines from scented stuff. 😊
Is clarifying shampoo good for colored hair?
I love the NYM Rice Water in the purple bottle which has a great moisture and protein balance. Its my go to!
That Blueberry Bliss stuff smells awful to me though. I haven't used it in months 😂
Does anyone know if the Marc Anthony mousse changed its formula? I know Courtney mentioned that it contains silk amino acids, which my hair loves. I recently bought a Marc anthony foam, but it contains hydrolyzed silk instead, which my hair hates😢
What do you think of Tresemme, Flawless Curls Defining Cream, With Coconut and Avocado?-
Merci👍👍👍
Is the curl company good for your curls as a beginner?
My concern and question is that the shea moisture manuka honey protein mask says it has some beeswax in the ingredients. I was worried about the wax. Can you tell me your thoughts on the beeswax?
I don’t tend to worry about beeswax when the product contains a decent amount of emulsifiers. Beeswax can act as a stabilizer in certain products, and that’s a good thing. that being said it does offer potential build up issues for people with incredibly fine low porosity hair. If your hair is medium to course, it’s not an issue. I hope that makes sense!
Have you seen/ tried the hard hold level 5 NYM gel? I’d love a comparison
Why do products w protein make my hair stringy? Except for treluxe
I would love to see you switch up your parting a bit!
I’m a little confused because I would say my hair is not fine and it’s not coarse. It is right in between so with many of your categories I’m not sure which products to pick
That means you get to use everything your little heart desires!
Kinky is so expensive in Ukraine, like it made of unicorn horns :(
Not sure if I got a bad batch but my pink bottle not your mothers stunk so bad that I threw it away 😢
I am team coconut allergy, and its very hard to find good products that don't contain coconut.
It is hard right now--it's a popular ingredient. I'm not allergic to it, but seemingly even the tiniest amount weighs my hair down. I am mildly allergic to shea butter, though, and that's also very popular in hair care right now.
@@PurelyCoincidental yeah that one is also equally hard to find a replacement t for right now. Happy hunting.
Are these companies paying you for your reviews or are these your actual findings? (Not hating, just curious. We all gotta get that bread somehow)
Haha this video is not sponsored. 🤗
I did notice she is an affiliate of them all or nearly all the products she recommended. As she's describing the product on the left bottom the product pops up and it mentions affiliate.
Yeah that's what I was noticing as well!@@proverbs3_5-8
