Thanks dude! I’m more used to dialing in that warmer meliora type sound but I’m pretty happy with how this turned out. After listening back a few days later I think I may have a hair too much gain to match the studio tone, but that’ll be fun to play through live
@@NickPerezMusic I think you should do a Prequelle video as well. I think the tone is again, vastly different from Inpera and Meliora. Seems to be less mids and more of a softer top end on the guitar going on. I could be wrong though as the guitars sound quite pulled back in the mix and the organs etc seem to dominate the mix. Opus tone would be good as well as I've yet to hear anyone replicate this tone. Orange Thunderbird was used I believe.
back at the riff naming 1. griftwood 2. watcher in the sky 3. kaisarion 4. hunter’s moon 5. twenties 6. kaisarion (again) 7. kiss the go-goat that tone is perfect, i’d love to hear you try and remake the prequelle tone (also a bass tone video would be sick, meliora specifically)
Nailed the riff naming! At this point I'm gonna do all 5 albums. Idk if he has a tutorial on bass tones, but Ghoul Uisce has an amazing set of tones for all of his ghost covers definitely worth checking out!
For string did you use standard strings that came with the guitar or switch to the Ernie ball power slinks that were mentioned in the meliora sound video?
Great video, but yeah, the impera guitars are eq'd very differently and this seems like the middle ground. Still sounds pretty dope. I've personally been looking into their live sound and i got like..90-95% there, there's just something missing. Im pretty sure the lead guitar is doing the Opeth thing, as in lots of bass, mids and treble at 5-6'ish, presence at 2-3, gain at ~7, slapping in OD pedal with 0 gain, max vol and max tone helps tighten up the sound, although im using Plini plugin, so it might be slightly different, especially the amount of gain, but its definitely more gain live and very tight sounding. I've picked up a lot of different details from a lot of different live videos, trying to piece them together, which is a huge pain, especially when there are rarely any moments when you can hear only one guitar
Damn dude, sounds like you've been putting in the work! It's definitely hard to dial in a tone for one guitar when live theres 2 (technically 3) playing to make the overall tone, plus factor in the ghouls who happen to be playing. Maybe if/when the live concert dvd/album from LA last year comes out there will be some isolated guitars. That sounds like a pretty spot on eq setting for their live stuff. To my ear, the live tone doesn't have as much high-end as the impera tone does and definitely has more gain but is also a little bit fuller sounding. Do you have any tone samples anywhere? Would love to hear what you've gotten so far!
@@NickPerezMusic id say i spent over 50 hours trying to dial it in so far, and i keep changing everything, trying to find whats missing. I would have probably settled by now if i wasn't working over multiple live videos, which sound slightly different from each other. I also plan to focus more on Kaiserion right now, because it seems like it has the most isolated guitars, at least the lead ghoul, and im pretty sure they keep the same tone during the whole live show, but there are some very specific details about that tone that i don't understand or know how to get. I don't have any tone samples online, but i could record something and send it to you, like via email or discord maybe
Right off the bat I'd say it's less gain than the impera tone and scooped mids. I believe they were using marshalls and oranges for the main amps (there's a picture of the producer in the studio with all the gear somewhere I'd have to find it.) gonna make a video on the other albums. Had a bit of a hectic year but getting back into the youtube stuff again stay tuned 🤘
Thank you sooooo much for this very helpful video! Killer tone and spotless playing! I have some questions though: 1) What string gauge are you using? I have a set of 11-52, so what frequencies would you cut or boost accordingly? 2) As I have the Pod Go, do you think I could find a setting for a clean tone snapshot with the same amp? Or would you suggest something else for an acceptable compromise? 3) What settings would you work on to get a lead tone starting from that patch? I know, it's a lot of questions, so feel free not to answer LOL!!!
hey dude sorry I'm just seeing this now! But to answer your questions: 1. I use 11-48. I couldn't tell you specific frequencies to boost and cut tho lol, I typically make a high pass around 80hz and a low pass at 5khz because as my helix gets louder more of the high and low end gets exaggerated. I had to tweak this tone to make it work live, the first time i played it live it was a nightmare lol 2. You definitely could make a snapshot of the same amp, I do that with the cover band I play with and I just have a setting with the gain dialed way back. I also keep an overdrive on my board so I'm basically using the snapshots as channels on my amp and then boost with the overdrive...which leads me to point 3 3. Just throw an overdrive pedal in front lol. When I was researching this tone I think they specifically used a marshall plexi with a dod overdrive preamp. Hope this helps!
@@NickPerezMusic it helps a lot, thank you!!! I am currently using the same settings as yours, though I have to teak a little bit the lower midrange as I am using 11-52 strings. Again, thank you!
The meliora video was bang on the money. This one didn't disappoint. Just listening to the Griftwood opening riff and you are literally there

This has been my go to tone the last few days, so fun to play thru!

The guitar always has Ernie ball power slinky’s on it, both for this and the meliora video. They’re my go to for d standard
