Thank you island man 👍! You are the best 😁!!
    EV sounded the best overall..
    2nd Alto...
    3rd JBL
    4th Behringer.
I will not waste money on those horrible behringer speakers.
I see why most DJs here in Florida buy EVs....
Thank you island man 4 another great video.😁! 👍!✌!

With eq the altos are capable of sounding better and the plate amp and drivers are fair better than the EVs! I have seen the insides, played around with and repaired mackie thumps ( terrible internals ) , ev zlx ( not much better but the DSP is pre set for a pleasing hifi sound which you can achieve with a decent mixer/ controller with most speakers, Mackie SRM, not bad plate amps but the subwoofers crossover isn't pure with some frequency bleed, Yamaha DBRs are have brilliant plate amps with quality components with ok level celestion drivers but with the Alto TS3 and ts4 series you get really good plate amps, build, sound, decent speaker drivers at a crazy price and the output is above the other speakers. You just have to listen to harmonic distortion because there limit indicators come on rather late and most likely why many have blown the compression drivers. I noticed this with the little 308s which sounded fantastic with a lot of headroom for 8" speakers but I could hear subtle distortion creeping in way before the limit light. It's just like back in the day matching a power amp with passive speakers you just need to use your ears and know your system instead of relying on a blinking light lol.
So iv owned all the above ( no JBLs though) plus box pro, RCV, DB audio, HH and a few others and I still love the alto 3 series with speakers costing twice as much.

    1. JBL, 2. EV, 3. ALTO, 4. Behringer but among those four what I have at home is BEHRINGER. B-210d and B-112d. Behringer may be the weakest link for this indoor test(not to mention that spectrum analyzer and RTA mic should be consider) but for outdoor used Im good with Behringer.

Thanks for these videos. I feel the JBL and Alto sounded the "cleanest" and most well blended. The EV had a slightly "tinnier" sound and the Behringer was a little muddier. I have the Altos and love them. I've used the JBL's and while they are probably a TINY tick above the Alto, I am one who doesn't like all the bells an whistles. So properly EQ'd the Altos are pretty amazing for I use them for

HI Robin. Great video as usual. I listened to each speaker several times through my ear buds cause I think you can hear much more detail than regular head phones. Especially from about the 13 second mark, I thought the Behringer was puncher with stronger bass than the rest. Probably in the minority but I liked it the most.

Good comparison between popular inexpensive 15 inch PA speakers. If you do something like this again in the future, I’d love to hear music with vocals, real instruments, and maybe also something that actually has some meaningful bass content. RUclips’s audio library channel actually has playlists where they sort by genre, and It’s all royalty free. There’s also other channels, such as NoCopyrightSounds, which specializes in EDM style music. When I test a speaker on a video, I always play a short (15 seconds or so) clip of one song, then edit the video so that you hear that same clip 4x on the different speakers, then it changes to the next song, which does the same thing. I find every genre, even classical, to be important when testing a speaker.

I heard all 4 and I got to go with the ALTO'S, not because I own them but for the pure performance. ( And Price) But really for $1000. more I could own those big name's but I'm good with Alto ts315. I wish I could have had something like this in the 80's. I would have rocked the house!

That is not a measurement microphone. It has coloration. You need an actual measurement microphone with an Omnidirectional polar pattern. You should also have an FFT or frequency analyzer. Pink noise is random. It does not have a set frequency. You should still post the pink noise test but separately with a warning at the top of the video, so people who are interested can observe.

    • @PURESOUND4
      @PURESOUND4 5 лет назад

I agree that a frequency response graph would give you visual representation of each speakers strengths and weaknesses across the spectrum. Not sure what your parking lot looks like, but an outdoor max SPL test at greater distances would be a great way to show which speakers have higher output. But I really appreciate the work you put into these videos. I find direct comparison videos really helpful for future purchases.

    Thank you for this.
It's my opinion that centering the mic at the centre of the LF driver at 1 metre is no measure of what the HF driver is doing. Consider that typical V is 60 degrees and that 30 degrees down is the -3dB mark. Let me not take out my protractor to discover that 30 degrees is flying over the top of the mic and potentially you are only getting -6dB of HF at the mic. The results where HF was more prevalent across the four brands means what? Those which showed more bass I would say the speaker has a longer throw and those which had more perceived crisp highs at the mic position do not have a long throw. Try this again placing the mic at double your distance and raise the mic to the upper edge of LF driver. All four speakers results will be wildly different and I guarantee the pecking order will change places radically. Who knows, the Behringer could take top spot! I'm not favouring any brand. I own both Alto and JBL... The JBL has a far greater throw than the Alto outdoors in free space. I would love a test using proper sensor microphones at 20 metres outdoors on a zero wind day and compare frequency response and effective dB on a recorded trace.

I don't know if that"s the case but listening back and fourth to some reference stuff (loud rock with tons of shit happening in the mix) with my eyes closed I favored these. The only way to tell is an in person - A- B comparison. any comparable speaker can be eq'ed to suit purpose. it's how we drive them that makes a huge difference.... too hot a signal, wrong/poor eq, too much bass or highs, running at 11/10ths... all reasons for speakers sounding crap and possibly failing. running any of these speakers at 60%-80% with correct eq can make most brands sound ok... a compressor/limiter is good for speaker protection. using something like a DriveRack and real time analyzer is even better. that can help with room positioning and adjusting to suit sweetspot/dancefloor... there will always be resonant areas depending on room and speaker position.
i use the TS315's with 18" subs and driverack... or comp/lim if just 315's... certainly more desirable than Behringer... the EV's and JBL are decent speakers too if you have the money.... all of them sound ok if they are the only speakers being used... it's how you drive them that will make all the difference.

The SM57 is one of the worst mics you could use for a test like this. It's heavily colored and being as it's a dynamic mic it show what the higher frequencies are really doing. A reasonably flat condenser mic (like an earthworks sr25 or even an SE4400A) would work SO much better. Any condenser would work better though to be honest. Hope you don't take this as picking on you at I really appreciate your videos.

These speakers now days have no soul. My old Peavey half columns just have so much more beauty and are not so brittle and harsh as these. It astounds me that a 15 inch speaker has so little bottom end. I have actually brought the plaster out of a ceiling with these old columns. And .. that is at 250 watts a channel. I am serious. These new ones , as much as I would love to upgrade, just don't have it. Oh.. unless you buy an extra sub...lol ok whatever....Guess I will stay with what I have.. Seriously... look into some used gear out there and compare. See what you think. But don't let the new shiny ego thing drive your purchase.

    • @Massivecarcrash
      @Massivecarcrash 5 месяцев назад

Doesnt take alot of SPL to shake plaster out of an old ceiling.
Secondly, these are low end, entry level, mobile PA speakers. None of these costs more than a 700 dollars a pair. (adjusted for inflation, you probably paid three or four times as much for your Peaveys)
Their application is for the most part just to chuck as much sound downrange as possible without sounding way to harsh.
Thirdly, I've owned two of these speakers and they do NOT sound like this when you're in a room with them. This is not an accurate representation of how they sound. In this video, they all sound exceedingly harsh, brittle and weak. If anything, this test is just to show the difference in sound characteristics between them.
I do agree with you about one thing though, shop around for something more higher end second hand and you'll get way more bang for your buck. New grills and some black paint is usually all it takes to make them look new and shiny.

EV, better dynamic, low end and balance/clarity.

You’re making really good videos, but this test song right now didn’t show the real differences completely. In reality, the Jbl sounds the most balanced, the Alto isn't bad either, but with a little middle, it's not natural enough, the Ev sounds a lot high, it's almost unnatural, and the B215 is muddy, we've heard it here too.

there is no way you can test a speaker on you tube. You have to listen in real life. Behringers are the best by a long , long way.

Guess what'''..i heard blinded...and saw only a diffference between them, the price.
And for some reason i dont know, Behringer sounds better for me in this video.
So blind folded nobody is gonna notice where the quality is.
I am confused now. I have been recomended the zxl EV but for a solo band man with electroacoustic guitar and voice, i think Behringer will be more than enough for small/medium size venues, for me. Do you agree?
Do you agree with me people?
Is it worth to expend double money when the differences in quality are minimum?
Besides, no one is gonna give you more credits for that lower or muddier hZ spectrum when people just want.to dance, enjoy, drink and will never be analizing your speakers.
I am not Tommy Emmanuel, so i dont think i need Alto, or zxl EV as recomended in the Musical Center.
Behringer has a bad reputation, and i dont understand why.
EV zxl and other EV has a good reputation for what?
    A tiny brighter on highs?
A good ear can make sound a Behringer better than an EV or Alto modifying through a console/mixer on the EQ.
