You both have been so important for exactly what you said in this interview. Your not only amazing musicians and people-you have a voice and have been so impactful on my life and so many others especially the LQBTQ community...so a very big thank you from a long time fan. The business for art is the record I’m listening to right now. I love all your records in a very different way! Two of my favorite Canadians!
even tho thier twins, how different thier personalities are really show in this interview i find. tegan and sara are both creative, smart and obviously passionate but in seperate ways. tegan sounds kinda "hippie-ish" like a bit more care free and dosnt take herself too seriously while sara has a more strong willed, loud kinda way of making her point. love these girls
I admire the clarity, conviction, and frankness Sara speaks with when discussing serious and meaningful issues. She speaks her mind very eloquently, that is always something I strive for. Also, I obviously wish her good health, but I can't help but love the raspy voice going on.
theyre so flawless jesus christ sara raises a good point too, i've never thought about that before. definitely doesn't make sense that you can get fined for saying things if you're an athlete but it's shrugged off if you're a musician.
I'm a fan of Tyler the Creator's music, but at the same time, I do 100% agree with what Sara said. I think that Tyler is entirely justified in writing his music. He's just making music that he believes in, but I think that it's important for people to know that, while it's okay for him to make the music, it's not okay for people to take it seriously.
Sara is awesome for putting her opinion out there. Like Tegan said, "just think about it". They're not exactly screaming for revenge or justice, Sara was just putting her opinion (which on the whole I agree with btw) into the public eye because she felt like it wasn't being represented. And for the people who say "if you don't like it, don't listen to it", it's getting kinda hard to be involved in music without some artist similar to this blasting into your ears. Just saying.
How can anyone see anything wrong with what Sara is saying? She expressed her opinion calmly and rationally and never said that Tyler should be censored or that he has no right to say what he does. She explicitly says he is free to say what he wants, but that she thinks her view should also be given attention and consideration. Some people get hysterical over anything...
Really they wrote so many songs they play like...once at a concert and never again because it didn't make the record for whatever reason..and these songs are amazing too. I think we should get everything these talented goddesses do :D Just looove them
I agree with Sara 100%. It is disgusting that people make idols of people like tyler the creator and brush aside what they are actually saying. It really is just a bunch of homophobic and sexist comments strung together between a heap of swear words.. They don't get in trouble? And people enjoy listening to it? What a strange world we live in. :/
@TheAssassinAce As a quick add on to that, it's like when people thought Phil Collins' song In The Air Tonight was about something completely different than what he said it was about in interviews because people won't actually go to the source for meaning.
@teganandsara143 Ya, it's on their official website, you just have to scroll back through their entries and search for it. Nice piece of interview. And Sara enforced pretty well the actual idea and point of that letter. Sara you should never feel bad about posting that letter, even if it got more bad reactions then good, witch i'm pretty sure it didn't :) And they are both so hot and all that good stuff . Sara is killing me, still; just had to throw that in there.
@TheAssassinAce No, is not like that. Have you not payed attention to the interview at least? The actual point is not even about Odd Future or Tyler, he is just used as a (obvious) example, part cos he is probably the one getting the most media attention . And who said they are homophobic? Sara's post named 'Call for a change' was more like her reaction to the fact that homophobic and sexist slurs and themes in music are seemingly getting more and more accepted and tolerated by the media.
Don't you see it? It's the album cover for songs like "No Quarter, Dancing Days..." It has the naked people crawling on either rocks or toxic waste barrels.
Being a feminist doesn't mean you hate men. I'm the prime example of that. It just means you believe in the empowerment and equality of women and all genders.
@PiercingKnight im not trying to start anything at all, i didnt put homophobia and racism together intentionally i was just showing different examples of stupid fights people fight about. I totally agree with you that we are free to say what we want and believe whatever we want what im saying is we shouldnt fight about it just be peaceful and happy even though there will never be world peace i know that If thats part of your religion then i respect that but i have the freedom to say what i want
@PiercingKnight honestly, i could care less. They say what they want and we say what we want. All im here for is to enjoy Tegan and Sara and their music Im just saying its disrespectful to bash on somebody because of their sexuality, and then nobody can stick up for themselves about it I support gay people all the way. i care about music. If your not here for tegan and saras music then just stop arguing. I respect what you are saying but im here for them and their music only.
I think most ppl that get hate of and view them in a negative light are ppl that r too uptight and take them way too seriously. They need to understand that 9/10 times of isnt being serious. they justin joking around and having fun. Ppl shouldnt take most of what they say to heart.
It's not a problem. I just noticed it in the background. To get back on the subject, the lady on the right looks better than the lady on the left. Sorry for not knowing their names, I listen to their music. Current favorite "I bet it stung" and anyway, girl on left looks like one of those skater guys, with their long hair covering one of their eyes and tilted neck to protrude the chin. She's only missing a lip wring.
Funny you say that since most people can't tell them apart seeing as they are identical twins. The lady on the left is Tegan and she did in fact have a labret piercing at one point. Sara's the one on the right.
i saw a flyer and tegan and sara is gonna open for the black keys in tempe at the marquee which baffled me! i found that to be completely stupid. it should be the other way around..
I praise tegan for writing such a powerful letter :) although I slightly disagree with her first point about the seriousness of the matter. I feel like anti-semitism is a more serious problem than misogynism or homophobism. Simply because of how horrible the holocaust was and how scary it is that some would still hold nazi beliefs. Don't get me wrong though, homophobics and misogynists are terrible little people.
@GabGabGabberz No it didn't seem confrontational at all :) and I totally respect your opinion. I probably just hold such strong opinions against nazi-ism because I have lost countless polish relatives to the massacres; and you are right, jews weren't the only ones targeted by nazi's, but they were the ones killed by the millions. I just feel like it is a bit more of a serious topic because their has never been a movement of this degree against gays or women (not to make light of those matter).
I respect tegan and saras opinions of OF and with them being active members in the gay community(i think) i dont blame them for their reaction to of and their lyrics bit they and the rest of the ppl that dislike of definitely need to get educated in them cuz theyre not what they think they are
If by "a democracy like we do" you mean "a democracy that is flawed in the same way", then yes, you are correct. Canada has a parliamentary democracy, and I hope you don't have any illusions that our American government somehow protects freedom of expression more than theirs does; that part of their constitution is very close to ours. I don't wanna spark a political debate but Americans should be knowledgeable and proud. Not ignorant and proud like the rest of the world perceives us.
have you actually listened to a single song they've ever written? some have spoken parts, yes, but holy CRAP even in the background of this interview they're SINGING Back In Your Head.
No one should be fined by any organization for anything. First Amendment rights include the ability to be offensive. If people want to fight ignorant, idiotic hate speech (redundant) then they should just not listen to the speaker. Freedom of expression is not limited to what's inoffensive. The free expression of ideas includes horrible things and people should be free to say them. But the rest of us should be free to not listen or reward that kind of behavior.
@PiercingKnight Where does government come in to this ever? She's not letting Tyler have his free speech, she's chastising the media for being so laissez-faire about it all.
If you're offended about something then you're offended. I don't think it matters how many gay fans or friends the person has, it's still offensive. No music is being banned over it, I think Sara is just saying think about what you're saying as it might hurt someone.
Ok I understand their point of view. But honestly I think it was that OF and Tyler the Creator getting popular that caused her to speak about em, if people did some research sometimes they'd realize that Tyler's antics and lyrics weren't anything new, first off their's whole genres of rap and rock that talk about misogyny and gore and rape (horrorcore, death metal) so if you speak out against you should speak against all not just call out Odd Future cause Tyler won a vma.
No one should be penalized for what they say the "liberal media" doesn't go after rappers for their content for two main reasons they don't wanna be misconstrued in anyway for being racist and they know rappers don't apologize anyway and they shouldn't no one should have to apologize for expressing a feeling or opinion
What's the matter with female advocacy? The goal for female advocacy and feminism in general is to empower women so we can be on the same level as men, because women have been oppressed by patriarchy for ever. And your other comment, the one about raping Sara and I assume you meant her sister? Yeah, that just lost all your credibility and proved to the world that feminism is still badly needed.
You can't compare music to being on a basketball court. As Tyler has said countless times, he doesn't believe in or partake in any of the things he sings about. His music is supposed to be a story. It's not real, it's more similar to a movie. Tyler has a homosexual friends and fans, so if they don't care, tegan and Sarah shouldn't care.
Way to go removing your comment because it sounded like you were serious and you knew that. Please keep on making insensitive comments to random strangers for no apparent reason.
Oh well, I would have taken what she says as she would rather not be a man hating feminist but that's how she may be perceived.. although i don't know where you're quoting that from but i believe you :P. I just thought you assumed they were feminist because they are gay. And therefore hated men. They seem too nice to hate men.. hating men is like hating gay people, or hating religious people in general. It's not really justified. There again can hating anyone be justified :P
I find it very bizarre that saying "I don't agree with you" is so often interpreted as "Whoa, you want to abolish freedom of speech!" ... So, saying offensive things is protected by freedom of speech, but saying that you disagree isn't? Oh, and that's not Sara's normal voice, she's hoarse, people! :-D
Absolutely right, Sara. Never even heard of Tyler, but his moronic response to an intelligent and insightful letter sums it up pretty well.
I do agree with them. Tyler's songs would still be great! And he would still have hundreds of fans, if he didn't always mention hurtful topics.
Awww poor little Sasa was sick this day and they had two radio shows
Tegan and Sara are literally some of the smartest people in the industry
is it weird that i think sara's sick voice suits her. it would be awesome if it stayed that way one day, as long as she could still sing with no prob.
even tho thier twins, how different thier personalities are really show in this interview i find. tegan and sara are both creative, smart and obviously passionate but in seperate ways.
tegan sounds kinda "hippie-ish" like a bit more care free and dosnt take herself too seriously while sara has a more strong willed, loud kinda way of making her point. love these girls
I admire the clarity, conviction, and frankness Sara speaks with when discussing serious and meaningful issues. She speaks her mind very eloquently, that is always something I strive for. Also, I obviously wish her good health, but I can't help but love the raspy voice going on.
ahh pure words
theyre so flawless jesus christ
sara raises a good point too, i've never thought about that before. definitely doesn't make sense that you can get fined for saying things if you're an athlete but it's shrugged off if you're a musician.
still waiting for new matrial from these two. Love them!
I'm a fan of Tyler the Creator's music, but at the same time, I do 100% agree with what Sara said. I think that Tyler is entirely justified in writing his music. He's just making music that he believes in, but I think that it's important for people to know that, while it's okay for him to make the music, it's not okay for people to take it seriously.
i love sara's voice. Oh and her letter. Such a good letter.
I'm glad these ladies exist.
Love these young ladies :D I was hoping for insight on their process but this was nice too. Such wonderful personalities
The letter was possibly the most amazing
How can anyone see anything wrong with what Sara is saying? She expressed her opinion calmly and rationally and never said that Tyler should be censored or that he has no right to say what he does. She explicitly says he is free to say what he wants, but that she thinks her view should also be given attention and consideration. Some people get hysterical over anything...
thank you tegan and sara.
I find Sara so inspiring and empowering in that last bit. Awesome.
I love Tegan's hair in this era. It's so long I can't help but picture her when she's 60 with similar hair but with more silver :D
I love the albums in the background, never thought that I would see anything stones-related in a t&s video :)
they're amazing!
You guys are booth awesome ans beautiful!!! Keep making your amazing music!!!!!!!!!!!
Really they wrote so many songs they play like...once at a concert and never again because it didn't make the record for whatever reason..and these songs are amazing too. I think we should get everything these talented goddesses do :D
Just looove them
When tegan does the canadian accent, too precious.
I agree with Sara 100%. It is disgusting that people make idols of people like tyler the creator and brush aside what they are actually saying. @GabGabGabberz Thank you for being so civil :) tegan and sara fans are always so pleasant. Even in a disagreement :P
@teganandsara143 Ya, it's on their official website, you just have to scroll back through their entries and search for it.
Nice piece of interview.

when i see tegan with this style of hair i can picture her in her 50's with the same her but a little more silver in it. such a fox.
@TheAssassinAce No, is not like that. Have you not payed attention to the interview at least? The actual point is not even about Odd Future or Tyler, he is just used as a (obvious) example, part cos he is probably the one getting the most media attention . And who said they are homophobic? i want a girl that looks like them because they are classic beauty.in another life i will try to find them one day.
So if I were to buy 50000 copies of Superstar a week before a show....
Don't you see it? It's the album cover for songs like "No Quarter, Dancing Days..." It has the naked people crawling on either rocks or toxic waste barrels.
Jesus they're fabulous
@teganandsara143
easy to find. googlesearch "sara from tegan and sara about tyler the creator" and the first one from stereogum
I love OF and I love Tegan and Sara so I'm Switzerland
Being a feminist doesn't mean you hate men. I'm the prime example of that. It just means you believe in the empowerment and equality of women and all genders.

i like people who think that saying "well my friends don't care", is a valid basis for an argument ._.
i love tegan's hair
I think most ppl that get hate of and view them in a negative light are ppl that r too uptight and take them way too seriously. They need to understand that 9/10 times of isnt being serious. they justin joking around and having fun. Ppl shouldnt take most of what they say to heart.
Nope, I'm not saying that although it's evident that a good chunk of them are especially the more vocal ones.
@rerejayjay i thought the same thing, but I do like her 'new' long hair- like in the bodywork video
I love Sarah's opinion shes so right :)
So basically, everyone deserves the right to say whatever they want to say, but just because you can, doesn't mean that you should.
Funny you say that since most people can't tell them apart seeing as they are identical twins. The lady on the left is Tegan and she did in fact have a labret piercing at one point. Sara's the one on the right.
'i didn't say put him in jail'
Lol not is it only an actual pic of Tegan, but just because they're not all over everywhere and we like their music doesn't make us hipsters.
Gah, they are amazing
i saw a flyer and tegan and sara is gonna open for the black keys in tempe at the marquee which baffled me! i found that to be completely stupid. it should be the other way around..

If one of them could be the older one it would so be Tegan
I hate Tyler and wolf gang !
Thank you Tegan and Sara
Hell yeah dude, viruses are sexy!
Ash this did not age too well haha
@@joeyvela5909 oof, cancel me now.

does anyone know what version of walking with a ghost is playing in the background of the interview?
Tegan makes me feel all tingly inside. :D
Cute, talented, funny AND smart!
If by "a democracy like we do" you mean "a democracy that is flawed in the same way", then yes, you are correct. @poppacap10 That seems to be the best response.
Is it me or does Tegan look incredible in this video?
No one should be fined by any organization for anything. First Amendment rights include the ability to be offensive. Tegan And Sara got beef with Tyler, The Creator? I never knew that. Anyone kind enough to tell me what's going on?
hell no man. you need to tell your self 'do these chicks even know i exist?'
In all fairness Tyler was called "white boy" growing up because of the music he listened to so....
