I was a young boy , born in 1958 and fell in love with her first big hit. Though I didn't understand what she was trying to convey with it , couldn't figure it out I still loved it .....just didn't know how beautiful she was till a few years later.
Yes, I just had a discussion the other day about how maybe he handed her flowers that she threw off the bridge. Bobbie later said the song was about 'unconscious cruelty'. The pastor saw them throw something off. Then she would go back and pick flowers and throw them off after his suicide as tribute and regret perhaps.
@@gb747gb I remember the first time I heard the song, on my car fadio, on my way to work. I had to sit in the parking lot until it was over, so I'd know how to find it in a record shop. I've been an avid fan ever since.
Over 50 years later and Ode to Billie Joe is still loved and enjoyed by millions! She was one of the best songwriters of all time, if only she recorded more!
I listened to Ode just now, and it really is a good piece of writing. It has a communicative style that's been emulated since, and possibly done before, but not quite from the context she performed it with. I'm baffled by her just disappearing about 40 years ago. Well done!
I Really like those lyrics shown at 2:55 there a lot, wish we had both done back then..!!! ✅ Nonetheless, it DID make it to becoming a “Folksong” in her own qualifier she stated back then.😎👍
Wow, didn't know that, I saw her playing a different instrument, other than her guitar one time but didn't know she could play all stringed instruments and hearing her says she even went church on a horse drawn wagon. So folksy and down to earth
She surfaced in 2020 at a friends party! Someone took a pic. She has short blonde hair. Her face is recognizable bit of I saw her on the street I’m not sure if recognize because it’s like really blonde and such a contrast with her dark hair. Ste looked well though!!!
her roots added alot of independence pushed her to her excelance in singing song writing and of course her looks and charm she was blessed with very respectful lady she very well was for herself and others I had a chance of hearing her song for the first time in my life with my foster family I never heard of her but I seen her ❤️ beautiful red 🍒 dress and was bewitched so I heard fancy and thought to myself yes this girl is a self made star ✨ God bless you fancy where ever you may be 🌹🌼🪄🍒✨
@@c.s.mcleod7383 Yes, and I have a wonderful opportunity for her in cryptocurrency investing that I 'd like to discuss with her, so let me know if you find her.
I wonder if she had voice/diction lessons to rid herself of a strong southern drawl. You can tell she's southern but doesn't speak like she's from the Mississippi delta.
Yet she sings with her accent. I'm southern, and learned to speak, minimizing my accent, at least, when I left the South. Some people would pretend they couldn't understand me with my accent. Not really believable, as my accent is not strong, I grew up in a city in the 60's/70's. Most people outside the South loved my accent. Drawl is western/southern, Texas, etc., accent is elsewhere in the South.
No, its just that Southern "accents" are often exaggerated on Movies and TV. I am from the South and most Southerners sound normal but we don't have the oddities that Northerners often do such as adding e vowels to their I vowels so that time sounds like "tieeem" and I sounds like "aheee" . Southerners are relaxed speakers and there is more than just one Southern accent.
It's nice to listen to an obviously intelligent woman talking expressively and unapologetically despite the reporter who is obviously a little intimidated by her.
@@pippin1ful Thanks for your comment. If you want to hear a real southern accent from the 50’s or 60’s, listen to this man; just discount any racist stuff.ruclips.net/video/6gX6WIEzB08/видео.html

54 years and we're still talking about Ode to Billy Joe... what an incredible contribution to music. You are an amazing artist Bobbie Gentry!

He wasnt into drugs and alchohol until the mid 70's
56 years now and yes - an incredible contribution! Lessons to be learned in this on indifference to others and their feelings and needs.
i never heard of it -- how many people talking about ode to billy joe were alive 54 years ago? i bet all of them

i’m in love with her. if only i was born 50 years earlier!!!
She is so articulate, well spoken and intelligent. I could listen to her talk all day.
I could do a lot more than that!
She has that soft, sweet voice like Dolly Parton
Over 50 years later and Ode to Billie Joe is still loved and enjoyed by millions! She was one of the best songwriters of all time, if only she recorded more!
Yes! If only.
Her speaking voice is as lovely as her singing voice!!!
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍

Thank you for finding and posting this gem!
Her beautiful black hair at 0:58 Wow.
She was right in 1968, Ode to Billie Joe has become a folk song.
This lady is the epitome of class. spending just an hour speaking with her would be on my bucket list.
The Perfect Woman!
And mine! SO much I'd want to say/ask.

Pure class and so talented!
I’m intrigued with this female artist, on both accounts. Indeed. 💜
Thank you to the National Guard for all the wonderful things they do for our nation

Love this Icon!
The omni magnificent deep southern accent.
Can't beat it!
O my goodness even her speaking voice is elegant, intelligent, light and sincere.
She can play any string instrument, what a talent

My god, that derriere!
Bobby was the ultimate rebel. Her words were prophetic ; Ode To Billie Joe is still an all, time classic.
her voice is so perfect bra holy
Wow, the most beautiful women I've ever heard speak ❤
Bobbie Gentry would be so awesome if you showed yourself in 2022.

I found it! But the text says it was actually taken in 2014. ???
Love her!
She's pretty with that long raven colored hair and great shape.
Bobby was so beautiful and very intelligent. I read that she quit the music business to work as a college professor.

Omg What a thoughtful person
How come she doesn't give interviews now? She'd doing fine. She 78 and has a net worth of $100,000,000.
I've recently become aware of Bobbie Gentry's reclusiveness and her wealth. I hope she comes forward in 2022.

She chose to remove herself from the limelight and continue her life in private, like an everyday person.
I love her duet with Glen Campbell, "Let it be Me".

@@MeadeSkeltonMusic True. But I grew up in the Mississippi Delta. I know a LOT of people that speak just like the way we are represented in movies.
She moved to Palm Springs, CA to live with her mother and her mother's husband when she was 13.
Great intervewer for once, most journalists and or presenters back then were super overbearing
I'll bet she made a lot of men uncomfortable back then with her level of intelligence.
And looks like a Greek goddess.
Plow the south forty, not touchin that one!

Perhaps he should have called in the National Guard to help him out.
i think Bobbie and Glen would have made a good couple
Me Too !!! I'm a huge fan of both Glen Campbell and Bobbie Gentry and love their songs. The perfect couple? You becha! 🙂
I dont think bobbie would have put up w/ his drunken abuse " tanya tucker"
Where’s the southern accent?
I'm in France but I detect a refind Southern accent.
