That song certainly caught the spirit of a dusty, hot, humid country life. It played in the background off the radio in my shop back then. Somewhat ironically, my wife at the time was a bit personally put off by Bobbie's fame even though she looked so similar; personality conflict I suppose or just envious... .

Ode To Billie Joe has for many years been my favourite all-time country song. I have lived all my life on a farm beside a river and also experienced a tragic own death of a neighbours child that left his parents devastated and broken for the rest of their lives . The aftermath of these tragedies leaves a lifelong shadow. These delta fields get flooded every winter. .

This is so bad So many factual errors. First: she was raised on paternal grandparents farm not her maternal grandmothers. She moved to Palms Spring to be with her mother at age 13. She did her B.B.C television series 1968-71 Not just six episodes. She was not bitter about men getting credit. It was a sign of the times and for nearly 15 years she kept going with her very successful career. She signed a 2.5 million dollar contract to work for the Howard Hughes organization for 16 weeks of work per year headlining his strip of Vegas casino's. in 1976. That same year the very successful film adaptation of Ode to Billie Joe made her more millions. Made for 1.1 million, it would go on to make 30 million in box office receipts. Her contract gave her 10% of the box office and 15% of all future income from the film. Fancy was a big hit in 1969 selling a million singles and the album sold a very respectable 300,000 copies. in 1970 she had a #1 pop international smash with her cover of, I'll Never Fall In Love Again, which earned her a Brit Music award for top international female recording artist. The worst error on this site: Ode to Billie Joe was indeed her first release for Capitol Records: not Mississippi Delta. The label put O.T.B.J on the A.side after Jimmie Haskell's stunning string arrangement( he won a 67 grammy for arranging O.T.B.J). Her reason for retiring at 40 was quite simple. She had become a first time mother in late 1979 and decided to put the interests of her child ahead of a career. When she retired she was a wealthy woman able to retire on her own terms with a portfolio worth an estimated 15-20 million .

@@lorabor8967 Yeah, it's like some hijack a life story to a direction they already want to go. In the end of the lead comment, they talk about her net worth of 15-20 million. If you check it now, it's $150 million. She wasn't a helpless flower crushed by the system. By contrast, David Cassidy, a man, a teen idol, had a number one song too "I think I love you" and sold more records than Bobbie with the Partridge Family probably, and had a hit TV show. He died broke in his 60's. Bobbie is still living comfortably.

Nice! Assuming your version is true (no insult intended, I just don't have any other outside verification), this is a much better account of her life than this video shows. I would certainly assume that given her brains and talent that she knew how to secure at least a good portion of her financial success so that she'd be set for life. If the account of her 6-episode BBC series is true, I wonder if those shows are available anywhere. It would be great if she would ever agree to an interview to hear her story in her own words.

She had an affair with Jim Stafford, successful comedian singer and songwriter. She became pregnant and had a son. Stafford took responsibility for their son and as a father raised the boy too. Stafford married someone else much later but has been generous, kind and understanding with her and their son. She has always preferred a private life and to be a great mother for her son. Congratulations to her for her assertiveness in the music industry and for recognizing the importance of being a mom! She's a knockout pioneer!

Man, what a talent! It seems she had the same shady difficulties that Buddy Holly and Jackie Wilson encountered. (Ironically, she even recorded for Brunswick!) She puts me in mind of another southern Belle in pop music, Sandy Posey. I do remember that song "Son of a Preacher man!" I swore Aretha Franklin did it, but no! It was Bobbi! Man, what a talent! And beautiful! Sports Illustrated would be hunting for her in this day. I trust she was more modest than that.

It's difficult to believe that someone with a channel full of videos about old entertainers doesn't know Bob Hope. The Tallahatchie bridge does not cross the Mississippi river. It crosses the Tallahatchie river. This video is just a collection of factual errors. I wonder if any of it is true.

Another word for Philosophy is Logic. People with philosophy degrees are usually very smart and end up in abstract yet interesting roles. Humans will be moving across their Logic questions to AI now hence logic will be outsourced. Good to have the skill though but you can’t compete with AI’s wide berth of puzzles and logic to provide a range of solutions
