    📋 INSTRUCTIONS:
    REMOVE:
    Step 1:
Open the door and place an object underneath the door to support it weight.
⚠️ VERY IMPORTANT: The door may look light but it is quite heavy and weighs over a 100 pounds, so make sure you have a suitable tool like a jack stand, flat bed cart, or wheelbarrow to support the door when separated AND when installing back onto the vehicle!
    Step 2:
🖊️ Trace both the top and bottom hinge with a marker so you precisely line up each hinge exactly the way it was before removing and after you put it back on.
    Step 3:
Disengage the wire harness which connects to the door. It is located inside the car to the side of the A-Pillar or frame of the car behind a rubber boot. You may have to use a pry bar or flat tip screwdriver to wiggle it out.
Once it is removed slightly, then push on the connector to fully release or unhook the connection piece from the car and so it is no longer connected.
    Step 4:
You will see 👀 4 screw nuts that connect the hinge to the door. On the top of the hinge is a long stem or stud and the bottom hinge has a long stem as well. Remember the placement of these stems.
ℹ️ These studs help support the weight of the car door.
Use a 13 mm short socket and ratchet wrench 🔧 on each of the 4 hinge nuts and remove.
You should feel the door falling onto the weight of the holding device which is good.
    Step 5:
Carefully remove & pick up the door & move it to the right (passenger side) or left (driver side) off of the long stem which secures/holds the door to the car.
    HINGE REMOVAL:
    Step 6:
ℹ️ Make sure the hinges are nicely traced 🖊️!
2 screw bolts on the top and 2 on the bottom need to be removed. In order to take off with ease, start by using a breaker bar to loosen them. Then use a regular ratchet 🔧 with an extension and a deep 13 mm socket.
ℹ️ You might need to use a short 13 mm socket for some of the screws depending on how much room you have to work with. In addition you may have to angle each hinge to get better access to place your wrench on the bolts for removal.
    REINSTALL THE HINGE:
    Step 7:
Place each hinge on its traced 🖊️ line. Then screw each bolt in a little at a time using a 13 mm socket and ratchet. Torque all 4 bolts to 21 ft. LBS
Make sure each spring hinge feels tight, and then position it so the door stems line up into the holes of the hinges.
    REINSTALL CAR DOOR:
    Step 8:
Place the door on a holding device and then lift it up and push the stems of the door through the holes of the hinges.
    Step 9:
While a helper pushes the door towards the frame of the car. Screw on each of the 4 nuts to secure the door.
    Step 10:
Go back and forth between tightening the nuts. Finally retighten each nut and torque 🔧 to 21 foot pounds.
    Step 11:
Remove the holding object and make sure the door is on tight. Test it by opening and closing it.
    Step 12:

Just letting you know I just did this on a 2002 Dodge Durango. All you need is a metric socket wrench. The hinges are just bolted on, no cutting needed. Everything comes off with one wrench.

Flying 2000km to pick up a 2014 Cherokee that's had a sideswipe scrape and dent on the passenger door and the owners are selling for half market value. Easy flip. It's a big enough city I know I won't even need to paint a door, I'll find a color match at a wreckers. Just checking in before I go, making sure it's as straightforward as it oughta be. I went to pick up a used 2001 dodge stratus 4 dr, driver door. Your right about that.( heavy) That door
had my back hurting , but I put it in and out even tried the back seat ,that didn't work loading it in my 1988 buick electra park ave. It has a big trunk but still, can't shut it all the way, almost. My back is halfway better next morning. Now to install my great buy $80 dollar and $20. in gas driver door .
now to find what to lift it today , so I don't have to do more than balance half the weight. lot of big blocks I cut with a chainsaw I guess and a rubber tire 2 wheel dolly to move old one away to junk pile.

    • @FixCarYourself
      @FixCarYourself  3 года назад +2

Great question, and great Eyes 👀!!! So I actually replaced the entire door, which unfortunately for me had a different wire connector. My original door was damaged but the wire connector inside was still good, BUT it had 2 connectors, while the new donor door I got had 1 connector.
So in addition to removing and reinstalling the door as shown in this video, I later had to also swap out and open up the insides of my original door AND the replacement door to switch the entire wire harness so it would plug into the rest of the wire inside of the A Pillar section which you spot. 👏👏👏
This might sound confusing, but basically I got a replacement door that was identical except the wiring harness.
I still posted the video to help others out. Unfortunately I didn't record swapping of the wire harness, but for most people that would be pointless, as if you are looking for a door to replace usually the wire harness is the same so therefore you only need to remove and reinstall a door if long if the part number (or door in this case) is the same.
Long story, but hope this explanation helped, and again great job on catching this!!!

Dont know if i will have to do this as well, any idea if you remember trying it? And also your old harness had a spot for 2 connectors it seems like, thats odd if you didnt have a need for it

    • @FixCarYourself

Not specifically sure for an Avenger, but most likely yes for the front door. You also have to disconnect the wire harness connector and the door has to be open to do that.

    • @FixCarYourself
      @FixCarYourself  3 года назад +1

I think so. However do a quick part search and you'll know for sure. I took a wire harness off once before and the connector was different in the it was split into 2 connectors instead if 1, but that was for a 2010, and a 2008.
For 05 to 07. They should be the same. But when in doubt do a part search.
