    Sounds like the first scenario was more an inadvertent whistle scenario, and not granted the time out - point of interruption, carry on.

      And to add; that after the inadvertent whistle was administered, then a time out could have ben granted.

    On a pass off the rim, I’m going to have a hard time selling to the offensive coach that it was not a try. Especially if it results in a backcourt violation.

    Thanks for another outstanding rules scenario segment. Just wanted to clarify a point on the scenario involving the pass from A1 from outside the three-point line. If A1's pass had touched A2, who is in the two-point area, and goes through A's basket the score would be for two points since the legal touch was by a teammate in the two-point area (5.2.1 Situation C). Would this be a correct reading? Thanks

      What about if the ball bounced off the official’s head? Since the official is part of the court, would the basket be counted at 3 or 2?

      @@KingDae19 3, for the same reason the opposing player's head would make it a 3 instead of the 2 they ruled.

      I was thinking the same thing on this play.

  • @StanMason-vd1dk

    The ruling on slapping the backboard had me think of other scenarios and looking at other rules involving play above the ring.
    I was looking at the penalty for basket interference and noticed that Rule 9.11 does not define a PENALTY and only states that a player shall not commit basket interference. I'm thinking it assumes that the ball is giving to the opponent for an out of bounds throw-in.
    My question is: Do we ever award points for actual basket interference by the defense

    • @BetterOfficials
      @BetterOfficials  Год назад

      Stan, the penalty for defensive Basket Interference is the scoring of the goal.
      The penalty for offensive Basket Interference is a throw-in at the spot nearest the violation.

    How can you score a deflected pass off of someone’s head? I’m just going off the definition of a try for field goal and am wondering how points are scored if there is not a try. Thanks for any help!

    I thought establishment of front court status is when both feet of a player and the ball come over the division line so since only the ball made it over, how can that alone establish front court status? Is this a wrinkle of the 10 second rule vs Over & Back?

    • @BetterOfficials
      @BetterOfficials  Год назад +1

      There is more than one way to establish front court status. If a *dribbler* is moving from backcourt to frontcourt, then as you describe all three points both feet and the ball need to be in the frontcourt in order for the ball to gain frontcourt status.
      The other ways to establish frontcourt are ball contacting a player with frontcourt status or simply the ball contacting the frontcourt in a situation where it is not a dribbler moving from back court to frontcourt.

    If the defender was inside the 3 point line when it went off his head. Would that change the ruling to a two since it was tipped inside the arc?

    Double foul situation and the basket was counte. What about rule 5-1-2

    • @KingDae19
      @KingDae19 Год назад +1

      I always thought the same. I will likely NEVER do a “blarge” double foul call. Based on the definition of legal guarding position, if a player is in LGP, then it’s a charge and you don’t count the basket. If they are not in LGP, it’s a block so you count the basket and give the shooter another. It cannot be possible to have a blarge based on the definitions. If both referees call different things, one of them is wrong. If you don’t know who is right, go with the call from the official who’s primary it was in. You shouldn’t be looking out of your zone anyhow. Stupid blarge 🙄

    • @BetterOfficials
      @BetterOfficials  Год назад

      The important consideration here is that it is no longer a player control foul, but simply a double foul so all of the aspects of player control foul causing the ball to become dead Etc do not come into play here. By rule.

    • @KingDae19
      @KingDae19 Год назад

      @@BetterOfficials Then why would that not be a charge on the offense if the opponent has legal guarding position?

    • @BetterOfficials
      @BetterOfficials  Год назад

      Two separate officials had rulings on the play. One had a block one had a charge. Under the circumstances this is to be considered a double foul by rule. The whistles on this play do not cause the ball to become dead therefore the result of the try shall count. The penalty for a double foul is report both vowels no free throws attempted resume at the point of interruption.

      They set themselves up for this problem. If there is a transition play from one zone to another and a whistle is blown, like this blarge scenario, then both officials make eye contact, take your time and decide who has the call. Happened to me a few weeks ago and it worked well.
