Been searching for the best scroll saw around $400. This video will help. This one may fit the bill. Thanks for the video.
No Problem, I hope you enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed mine. Keep in mind, I totally gutted the scroll saw and re greased all the bearings as they are not properly greased in the factory. FYI, all scroll saws eventually need the bearings re greased
*This is my second WEN tool and they are both great **MyBest.Tools** I needed to do some trim work around the house and needed a scroll saw for the intricate work. No complaints so far.*
There is nothing more pleasing, for a woodworker, that buying a new tool. You will feel great every time you sit in front of it. I have a Dewalt and find it easier being a top stabber but it is a personal preference. Happy scrolling.
Thanks Pat ! I'm sure ill fall in love with this Saw as I did its 16 inch counter part !
Good job video
Nice. Scroll saw
Thanks video

I just got this scroll saw on 10/26/2020. Fantastic saw. It replaced a porter cable that I've had for several years. That was my learning scroll saw and I made a lot of nice things with it. I had a lot more vibration with that one so when I got the delta I couldn't believe how quiet and smooth it ran. Very good video.
Thank You !
3 yrs later...
How do you feel about this saw now? I'm looking at the same one and I'm very impressed with what you've demonstrated here.
I love it! I have done some slight modifications to the saw and the stock chuck heads have been replaced with Pegas Chucks and when I got the saw I did gut it and regreased all the bearings
@@ArtisanPirate Where do you buy your blades?
It’s fun to get new tools! 🤗
Aye, and exciting !
I upgraded to the same saw about a year ago. I’m very satisfied with it.
Awesome !
Hey there. I finally advanced to the point where I felt I have developed enough skill after 30 years to move up to an intermediate scroll saw. I found your blog for the first time while reviewing saws and I really liked the way you presented stuff. I did buy a new scroll saw but it wasn't a Dellta;; was the DeWalt. However, that being said, I watched some of your other presentations and learned a lot. So, I am a follower.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I truly appreciate it! Hope you enjoy your new saw!
Thanks very helpful information.
Glad it was helpful!
@@ArtisanPirate I have just purchased one, too. Leave in a little while to pick it up. All the Best
My fiancé recently bought me one of these! I appreciate your in depth description of this saw and your authenticity behind it. You definitely are motivation for me. I will definitely recommend your videos to others. I just subscribed to your channel so I will be checking out more of your videos! Take care and thanks again!
Thanks for the kind words and thanks for subscribing !
I found one of these used. Had only two months use on two projects for $225. Really looking forward to using it. Your Video was insightful. I had a Delta 40-601 and the speed control went wacky - real slow to full speed to slow all on its own. Delta has no parts available for this old saw.
I like how the new saw runs so smooth.
It is an AMAZING tool !
Will you post a video on maintenance and tidbits for this model? Thank you for sharing your experience.
Maybe one day, I have broke the saw down 2 times and documented it on my instagram page, It's a very tedious process
I have had my 40-694 for about 2 years now and it is great. It is the first scroll saw that I have been able to top feed the blade on internal cuts and that has become my preferred method. One thing to check is the bearings on the blade arms and struts on my saw had almost no grease, this seems to also be a problem on the Dewalt scroll saws. There are several youtube.com videos on the subject. Happy Scrolling!
Good to know!
Thanks for sharing that Tyler. It looks really sweet. Thank you for scrolling at normal speed. I was one of the ones who wanted to see that. Thanks.
Glad I could help!
I purchased the same saw 2 weeks ago and really like it. Internal cut so easy now. Great price from Amazon. Enjoy your videos, take care..
Thanks !
Super maszyna! Pozdrawiam z Polski👍
Very nice review. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I like using our porter cable scroll saw
Cool!
Yeah
Hey Buddy...had to make a power lift for my Dewalt 788 but I believe the Delta 40-694 has a built in power lift with one time adjustment of a screw to keep the arm raised while threading your work. Check your owner manual. So happy for you.
Thanks Bishop, and yes, it does have a build in arm locker, it was just with the small test piece I showed in the video I didn't need to use that feature.
That Grandfather's scroll saw is a treasure and needs a place of honor - if it was not for that saw your life might be totally different.
This year I'm looking forward to get this scroll saw, I just need to save some money and maybe wait for it to be on sale on Amazon. I might be returning to this video again when I assemble mine :)
Awesome ! Hope you end up with one, you will love it !
Glad you're enjoying your new saw ..I got a jet 22 inch couple of months ago and its opened up a whole new range of scrolling ..Look forward to new projects from you
Thanks !
Nice machine happy scrolling enjoy
Thanks 👍
Nice scroll saw, I have the dewalt version thats about 15 years old and love it.
Very cool!
One quick way to check table/blade squareness is to make a very shallow cut into a 2" thick piece of stock, power off the saw, spin the 2" thick stock around to the back of the blade and pull it into the back of the blade. If there is no resistance then you're square. If the blade plucks when you remove the stock then you're not quite square.
Yep !
You have a lovely saw and I look forward to seeing you getting used to it.
Thanks !
I bought the same one a year ago and that is a excellent scroll saw,you forgot to mention the speed control button on top of it!!
Thanks, but I did mention it was Variable Speed :)
It's fun to see your excitement with a new tool. So glad you were able to upgrade. It would seem this will help you kick it up a notch to not only make make projects easier but also more challenging. Congratulations!
Thanks !
Congratulations on your new scroll saw. I have an older 16” Delta model 40-570 scroll saw that I’ve been using for about 15-20 years now and it’s been a good one. However, your video has me also wanting to upgrade to a newer larger saw. I really like the features on your new saw, especially the way you change blades. Mine takes longer and it’s hard to tell if you have the blade positioned correctly. Anyway, I hope you enjoy your new saw.
I uses the smaller 16 inch Delta Scroll Saws since I was 14 and this is a huge upgrade ! Still, nothing wrong with those 16 inch saws !
i just bought the same one for my granddaughter to get started in woodworking but i absolutely know nothing about a bandsaw,,,we tried it out some last night and the blades that came with it would not let you do a very tight curve,,any recomenitions on the blade to buy,,,the manual wasnt much for instructions,,i got the guard on it for her but it sweems like it does so much better without it,,it clamps down hard on your work piece

I hope you do a review of the saw down the road. Once you get used to it. I was looking at a Delta, but my wife gave me a DW788 for X-mas. But I would be interested in see how you like it. Take care, stay safe.
I Plan to, and maybe add some upgrades
i just bought this saw and i do woodworking,,i built cabients ,,furniture,,,and have been doing it for years and love it,,,,but i can honestly say,,,i hate this scroll saw,,well not just this one but any,,,,i figure if it cant be cut with a band saw,,,you dont need it,,llol,,it takes forever to get the blade on it,,it breaks reguardless of how much tension is on it,,or bends,,,plus you cannot turn the material and follow the lines,,,,,,but you are really good at it and you make great videos,,,lol,,guess im not a scroll sawer,,
I hope you can get the hang of scroll sawing as it's very relaxing and therapeutic to me and to alot of others, the best advice I can give to anyone is "to take your time and let the blade do the work" feel free to reach out with any scroll saw related questions
Thank you for the video. I am expecting my Delta 40-694 to arrive tomorrow. This is my first scroll saw and tomorrow will be my first time scrolling. Do you have an updated video now that you've been using the saw for a year or so? I look forward to watching more of your videos.
Good luck! as far as a follow up no, but, I have several posts about it on my instagram account
lol,,i just got out of the scroll saw crave,,i ordered a jet from home depot and when you went to insert the blade thru the wood it keep pulling away from the bottom clamp,,and needless to say the blade end up bending,,lol,,so i believe my scrolling sawing days are over,,lol,,ill stick to making furniture,,
Sounds like a tension issue, I urge you to try scrolling again as it is very therapeutic and a great way to relax while making beautiful works of art
Awesome just got mine today! Question, how are you turning it off and on while sawing without pressing the big power button on top?
Awesome! And I am using a foot switch, its something you buy extra and is worth every penny!
About time you upgraded from that cute toy of a delta to the Big boy delta lol :) welcome to the family :)
The old one was not a Toy by any means but a Treasured gift from my Grandfather, and as I said in the video, nothing was wrong with the 16 inch scroll saw and Delta has discontinued making replacement parts and their was a need to upgrade to a bigger "Toy' as you say. But I am excited to have the new machine !
@@ArtisanPirate i used my fathers craftsman for 10 years than the wen and demil so i know how that goes i was joking that in size comparison, its a tonka toy :( i wasnt meaning anything bad about it. sorry if it came off that way :( still congrats you will love the delta shes a beast and runs like a dream :)
Will you tell me about the foot control you use on your scroll saw, please? Your video helped to cement my decision to buy the Delta Scroll Saw. I'm brand new to scroll sawing and looking forward to many projects first of which will my Granddaughter's name. Thanks!
Thanks ! And i use a basic harbor freight foot switch. Less than 15 dollars but worth every penny
Resembles the DeWalt😊
But has an added feature of the locking pin
De cuanto voltaje es nesecito de 220v
Have heard this saw is modeled after the Dewalt. The Dewalt has such an aggressive cut I feel it’s kind of sloppy. I the Delta also overly aggressive?
Howdy Sir, what is that spring pin on the right side of the saw as you're looking from the front?
Sorry for the late reply, this allows the top arm to be held up while changing for internal cuts, only the Delta has this amazing feature while you have to buy aftermarket parts for the Dewalt 788 to achieve this
Did you, or has anyone else experienced table movement after tightening all points? What is the solution?
Mine did at first but now its fine
does the head raise so you can change the blade
Yes, and its a step above the dewalt as the Delta has a pin you engage that holds up the are while changing interior cuts
at the rear right side there is a lock pin to hold the arm up while you thread the blade. I didn;t see you use it,did you
Came here to say the same thing. It is fantastic. I only wished it locked the arm up higher for more clearance.
Thanks !
Aye, I was aware of it but since I was scrolling a small piece their was no need to raise the arm and lock it in place.
@@ArtisanPirate always look forward to your videos
I am looking to buy this saw very soon and was wondering that it said when you lift the arm it would stay up while changing the blade but I noticed that yours didn't. Am I just missing something here? Thanks..
Awesome ! And yes, the arm does lock in the up position and its a pin that catches, I didn't show it on this video, even though I should have because my "demo" piece was so small that their was no need to raise and lock the arm in place
I bought a Dewalt but I always wonder, what if I had bought this one.
I'm just not a Dewalt fan, but Im sure ill love this Delta !
Please do a similar review. We might just find out there are two equally good scroll saws.
How much did amazon have it for then? Its 417 now. Should I hold out for a better price?
Hold off for a couple months would be my opinion. The holidays they will usually drop the price a bit
what speed did you settle on that you felt works best with most of your designs?
Hey ! I looked, my older delta didn't have numbers just a dial, and on this scroll saw i'm between a 5 and 6 on the speed
Please tell me the blazes you are using with this saw please
With this saw you can use any size blade, however, I use my standard Number 5 Ultra Reverse Tooth Blades for most of my work
PS you will now have to relearn how to scroll lol
Hmmm maybe lol
