    Thanks for much. I used to wear a size 9 trainer in uk. I switched to size 8 and a half because I thought it was a better fit. I been wearing the new trainers for about 2 months. That caused me some harden skin like you explained on your video. Thank you so much. I can treat the cause. All I need to do is go back to size 9 and that should fix the problem 😄

    My problem is a callus located on the outside edge of the big toe (right foot only ). Would this be caused by footwear? Do I need to look for a orthotics and where could I find them? I have a start up bunion on this foot and have replaced my footwear to a wider toe box but still have the callus. Have been soaking my feet in warm soapy water and using a pumis stone to shave the callus . I have been to see a Podiatrist several times but he has not mentioned orthotics. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. P.S. I enjoyed your presentation, keep up the good work.

      Oh, sorry. For men, those pointy dress shoes are bad for the toes. Yes wide front area shoes are better and the shoe should have good weight support pads. If the shoe heel pads are worn down, get support pads and put them inside the shoes or get new shoes.

    Doc, what causes a callus (may be a corn having watched your other video) on met head 5 (pinky)? Thanks, Alan. (metatarsalgia 5 years and 66 lbs obesity)

      There can be a few causes of pressure here.
      1. Tight fitting shoes. This can be from a collapsed metatarsal arch leading to a wider foot and pressure from the shoe. A wider shoe and/or a metatarsal pad may help with this. In some cases, stretching that specific spot in the shoe may be helpful.
      2. Walking on the outside of your foot causing pressure when pushing off the back leg. In this case, make sure you're shoes aren't worn out on the outside, further exaggerating this. Orthotics may be beneficial in this case to push the foot back in.
      3. A collapsed arch causing the foot to slide to the outside of the shoe. Orthotics may help with this to bring the foot back up and prevent the sliding.

      @@ontheballorthotics Thank you so much. Having now considered the state of some of my shoes, it seems that they might have led to the problem. I sometimes wonder if my right foot is deformed from being a side-sleeper for the last 26 years following an injury (Russell-Taylor nail, left femur, dendritic bone growth at entry/exit point of locating screws at greater trochanter). Sometimes I rest the left foot on top of the right foot and wonder if this constant weight could have twisted the right foot. These things are additional to the main cause of my problem, namely weight, weakness, and lack of mobility. I am in the process of dealing with them.

    What insoles do you recommend to avoid the calluses on the bottom of the foot in between the toes number two and three (long and middle toes), please. Thank you.

      If you are looking for a generic insole, a good insole to look at would be with a metatarsal pad included. This is the bump in the front middle part of the foot.
      Sole and Birkenstock both have insoles with metatarsal pads included. On the Sole website, if you search for insoles by injury and select either "morton's neuroma" or "metatarsalgia", it will give you a selection of insoles with these pads. I believe all Birkenstock insoles have a small pad included on them. When selecting the thickness, you just want to make sure the insole isn't too thick. Otherwise, it can cause more rubbing on the toes.
      Another option is to get an insole without a metatarsal pad, and have someone, like a pedorthist, glue the metatarsal pad on. Kneed and Superfeet are also great brands to use, but I don't believe they have the metatarsal pads included.

    I wonder why I have calluses on the sides of my big toes and the ball of just one foot since I do very little walking, no walking outdoors and I never wear shoes indoors ?

    • @ontheballorthotics
      @ontheballorthotics  3 года назад

      It's possible that the barefoot walking could have caused the callusing, even if it's very little.
      For the ball of the foot specifically, if your fat pad has atrophied or shifted, this can cause a callus to form very easily.
      There could also be other activities that are leading to pressure. Be aware during the next week to see when your feet are contacting a surface. This might explain why the calluses have formed.
      Also, if you have never removed the calluses, they could have formed years ago and never reduced significantly.

      I wear 15-20 mm compression hose for all indoor walking. I used pumice stone for the first time last night. Immediate results are looking very promising

    What can I do to get rid of my callus on my heed and on the side of my feet and under where my big toe at the hurt all the time what can I do to stop them from hurting

  • @tarah7076

    It's because everyone's feets are different like if they have wide feet or flat feet, or curve feet like me where most support is on my big toe so I get a calluse that I have to cut down, my husband has flat wide feet, he gets them on side of feet because his wide flat feet is more on the side of feet so when he walks its more on the side of feet then curve feet, when I walk my feet walks on front side big toe, you can't change how you walk, you only can get shoes that support the feet

      One of my favourite shoes to recommend is New Balance. They have a nice wide toe box to prevent rubbing.

      Proper fitting shoes and/or orthotics can help to remove pressure, and filing down the calluses help to remove it. A footcare nurse, chiropodist or podiatrist can help to shave down calluses.

    Does the calluses is from internal to what u are eating ? It’s been 2 years my calluses are growing back and cut it , it is yellowish
    Does it make me infertile? 😨

    • @ontheballorthotics
      @ontheballorthotics  2 года назад +4

      The calluses form from external pressure, not internally. If they keep coming back, it might be the way you are walking or the shoes you are wearing.

    Mam I have corn my both foot.

    • @ontheballorthotics
      @ontheballorthotics  2 года назад

      For corns, it's important to have it removed and remove the pressure causing the corn.
      To have it removed, I believe there are solutions you can buy at a drug store. You can also have it professionally removed by a Footcare Nurse, Podiatrist or Chiropodist.
      To remove the pressure, it could be from a shoe, the way you are walking/the way your feet are. You can make sure your shoes are not causing pressure. Arch support (custom or over the counter) may be a good option if the feet are causing the pressure. There are also corn pads from a drug store that can offload the pressure.
