Steve was, is always will be the best blue eyed blues singer to ever grace a stage, period, full stop!!!
Do a little digging into his legacy and you'll find his lovely daughter Mollie Marriott has followed in his footsteps.
"Give Me A Reason" would be a great start along with any songs from "Truth Is A Wolf".
From an old Rock & Blues photographer/stagehand my Thanks for keeping it real...
It's easy to forget how great a guitarist he is when he sings, and it's easy to forget how great a singer is when he plays guitar. Wow.
Couldn't have said it better myself
He kept getting better and better the older he became. This is 6 years before his untimely death. True rock god that’s really better than so many of the greats that got the attention he deserved and they know it
Steve Marriott is criminally underappreciated. One of the greatest voices in Rock history!
I'd give my vocal chords for a voice like that.
Thats the blues that puts tears in your eyes
Remember the song "Black Coffee" that you did ? That's him
This man was a dynamo! A small man in size but a HUGE voice! Better than Robert Plant, Joe Cocker and Paul Rogers. He was the best singer England ever produced. He was strung out on coke and booze at this point and he was still fantastic. This man radiated pure energy,so explosive!
Better then them all, second to none
@thepeckhampoet1909
He died way too young 😢
@@waltercole5024 absolutely walter!!
@edwardcapobianco2975
I remember in high school in the 70s, when was with Humble Pie.
They called Steve the "White Aretha Franklin "
People were amazed that a short British white guy had a voice like a black soul & gospel singer 😄
The force of nature that was Steve Marriott...almost unfair to all the others before and after him!!!
For me Steve Marriott was the voice of the 60s. I was smitten as a teenager! Saw the Small Faces live in 67/68 and they were out of this world. Thank you Steve and Rest in Peace now.
I'm so used to concentrating on Steve's unique voice I'd forgotten how brilliant a guitar player he was
Me too, I always remember no doctor and thirty days when I was a kid. Didn't realize his excellence at guitar
30 days in the hole , my favourite song to sing in the shower
Lead singer of the Small Faces (60s)........Humble Pie (70s) and solo act in the 80s/90s. UNDERATED is the word.
My friend Steve (singer/guitarist/songwriter) opened for Steve Marriott on a Canadian tour some 35 years ago. The experience pushed him towards a career as a screenwriter. He said basically, watching him (Marriott) every night I knew I'd never touch what he could do. A very humbling experience. Check out Humble Pie - "30 days in the hole".
I started writing songs when I was 16 in the 70's and gave up because then we had Elton John, The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkle, Pink Floyd, David Bowie you name it. All better than me or so I thought. I should never have done that. We can't all be the best but we can contribute.
Steve was the leader of Humble Pie. You should listen to "I Don't Need No Doctor" and "Black Coffee" by Humble Pie!
Don't forget about hot -n-nasty
...and do not forget the great Small Faces..., keep on rockin'....
Sweet Peace and time
Check out Roadrunner from the Smokin album.
Steve Marriott was about 5ft 3” pure talent and power!
5’4
@@beastieboy9286 5'4 and 1/2
1,66 metres to be precist
That is the lead singer of Humble Pie you reacted to Black Coffee
Yea he Saaannng. Black coffee is a must,
Oh yeah Stevie Marriott! Sadly missed, died in a house fire in 1992 I believe. Simply the best ever!
Steve was one BAD ASS talent who didn't really get his due. I seen him live when I was a teen... changed my life.
One of London's finest, RIP Stevie Marriot
Had the absolute pleasure of meeting Steve a few times during the late 80's and early 90's. We drank a few beers and smoked a few spliffs and had a bloody good laugh. He was the one of the very best British guitarists, and the BEST VOCALIST EVER!
R.I.P Stevie M.
Awe Steve ❤ Just fantastic. How we all miss you x.
He was the man
Steve Marriott was the leading man in the British rock explosion of the sixties when with the small faces, the fusion of blues and rock was in essence his thing. Voted by his peers as the purest rock voice of all time. His guitar skills equaled his singing talent.
This why the BLUES are the blues! No other music can do this to you. Body, Mind and Soul! The Pain, Heartbreak and Love that comes from the blues is absolutely life changing!
At this stage in Steve's career, he had lived the blues. He had been singing his guts out since he was 13 yrs old, and yes, his voice was a little gritty and he couldn't hit the high notes anymore, but I think it suits the blues perfectly. Bless your soul Steve RIP
Steve Marriott the legend. Could sing and play like a god.
I've been a fan of his, since he was in small faces. First time I've seen this. He was such a tremendous talent! Thanks for showing it!
Got the whole concert on dvd
Just a few months before Steve Marriott passed away he played at a small club with this band Steve Marriott (the packet of three)... It was only about 20 or 30 minutes away from where I lived. Friend of mine called me from the club and said hey man you need to get over here as soon as possible he said you're not going to believe this but Steve Marriott in his new band or whatever band is going to be playing here tonight. Well I ended up not going because my van girlfriend would have lost her mind if I would have asked to leave. Damn it I wish I would have went and seen him I'm already a huge Steve Marriott fan, got to love that "blue-eyed soul".
One of my favourites since I first heard him,top top talent.
You already heard him
HUMBLE PIE Black Coffee he was the singer
Met him at a small club in Philly years ago. In 75 they were doing the 'Goodbye to Pie' tour and I copied the flier and poste it all over my high school! Best voice bar none....Mr. Steve Marriott!
Steve jammed with Peter Frampton in humble pie. Alas, another great who left us too soon. Thank God his music lives on in videos and albums. Rip 🙏
Peter Frampton is not dead yet pal
Frampton stills rocks his ass off in Cincinnati.🎸🎤
Steve Marriot was the lead singer of Humble Pie, the group that sings Black Coffee, that you recently did a reaction to. He also was in a group called The Small Faces. You outta try out Humble Pie's Thirty Days In The Hole, or The Small Faces 'Itchycoo Park.'
"Black Coffee," and "Thirty days in the Hole." Steve was pretty sick at this point, and he didn't live a lot longer. He's been playing Rock/Blues since 1966. He's a British Born artist from England. One of the most soulful dudes I have ever heard perform.
He didn't die from illness, he died in a house fire.
Your thinking of Ronnie Lane, Steve was not sick.
@@dib000 exactly. Ronnie Lane died from pneumonia brought on by MS. Steve Marriott died from smoke inhalation in a house fire.
@@dib000 I heard he feel asleep with a cigarette.
@@markhaus2830 Horrifying but true, died of smoke inhalation. If anyone out there smokes, for God sakes - don't due it in bed !!!
Watching your reactions to Steve Marriot's BEST performance is pure joy to me. Shawn and Mel, your appreciation for the blues and for the power and depth of his voice gives me hope that Humble Pie's music will never lose its appeal. I met him 2 nights in his hotel rooms in 1972 when he was touring the Midwest. My friend at school had been a DJ in St. Louis while in high school and had interviewed him on the air - LIVE. My friend insisted that three of us go see Humble Pie's concerts during that week - a short drive from our university to Louisville, Cincinatti and St. Louis. Steve Marriott was as engaging in person as he was mesmerizing on stage. Looking back over these 50 years and hearing his voice, I realize that I have always measured every blues musician against Marriott. Very few musicians have ever been his equal in terms of guitar magic, harmonica finesse, and his raw and emotional voice. You noticed it too. It is my hope that you will continue to remember his music and come back to it again time after time.
And the great Jim Leverton on bass. Wow!
Fkkkk yeah!!! I don't know what to say that hasn't been said already. s88t...... This music is flyin, far, and free!!!! Oh I love the blues when it's done this way.
I saw Humble Pie open for Nugent late 70's, maybe 1980? They had PA problems, and Marriot was mad. They played a fierce, angry set. Fierce. All those old great Humble Pie songs played hard and angry. They were great, really great. Bobby Tench was playing guitar too in the band, the guy that sang on some early Jeff Beck albums. They were great. Marriot was a special talent.
A good place to start watching Steve would be with The Small Faces, singing Tin Soldier. Then just enjoy all of his fantastic music from the 60s to the 80s. It seems that Robert Plant of Led Zep was a big fan of Steve Marriott.
Same singer as the Humble Pie Black Coffee song y’all reacted too. He’s one of my top 3 singers all time 🤘🏽
Thank you so much for posting this segment Shawn and Mel. I've loved Steve Marriott's music my entire life.
I enjoyed listening to Steve and really loved you guys with your great enthusiastic commentary. 😊😊😊😊
This performance was during the 1980s, when Steve was performing in small venues. The group was called Pakit of Three; with Jim Leverton on bass guitar and Jerry Shirley (also from Humble Pie) on drums. Unfortunately, Steve died in a house fire in 1991, at his home in the village of Arkesden, Essex. I had the privilege of meeting Steve on more than one occasion, a talented blues guitarist as you heard and one of the finest soul voices ever.
Deffo do Steve Marriott with humble pie live . You won’t be disappointed. Possibly one of the best singers to ever come out of the UK
Steve, one of the best Bluesman in the scene, wild and so creative, we never should forget him. R.I.P.
This is the wee man from London.
On stage he was eight miles high for sure !!!!!!!!!!!
ROCK ON.
❤️🥰❤️ Hello S & M SQUAD!!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 STANDING OVATION!!! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼⭐️ A M A Z I N G ! ❤️🥰❤️
Steve💔🎤🎸🎼
He owned an old English estate that caught on fire and took him away from us😢
Humble Pie with Peter Frampton and beyond
Small Faces before Humble Pie.
An incredible force of nature talent and spirit.. a great one to research and discover
He and Robert Plant and Rod Stewart were the three most recognized rock voices with blues inherently performed with so much soul.. miss him so much. Amazing gifted talent 🙏🏻❤️
Thank you, have never seen this before, and I felt like I knew the history of this dude!
I know somebody's told you by now... but explore the Humble Pie catalog. God Bless...
Pure genius. The greatest all time British blues artist
….and Edgar Winter/Johnny Winter ‘Tobacco Road’ live ; another great performance of blues 👏🏽
Portland Oregon USA 🇺🇸
Oh Lawd, yes.
YES, he can sing too! This is the legendary Steve Marriott toward the end of his too short incredible career Steve started singing at 13 when he was on stage as the Artful Dodger in the London Stage production of Oliver. Then he was in a great Mod band , the Small Faces which he left in 1969 to be frontman of Humble Pie, who you loved with Black Coffee. You have tasted Humble Pi, now you should try Small Faces "You Need Loving". He really sounds like a American black soul singer. FANTASTIC!
Steve Marriot FOREVER!
Saw Steve Marriott a few times in the early 70's with Humble Pie , they always rocked out. About a decade later I saw Steve playing in a small club in S. Texas. I could tell he was a little disappointed at the size of the crowd but once he saw how enthusiastic we were he commenced to blow the roof off the joint. Awesome show !!! Unfortunately he passed a few year's later.
Did you happen to see Humble Pie in '71, before Frampton left? I caught them in April, '71. Then again about '73, with Clemson.
So happy to see fans of Steve out there!
I'm gunna cry!
Bless you all.
I saw them in San Bernadino in 70?..idk
I was so blown away!
15yrs old..omg.
That dude could sing!
Marriott's career was so unbelievable, if you made a film of it, people would say that it is too far fetched. He began as a child actor, then became singer, guitarist, songwriter and producer in the Small Faces, left to form Humble Pie, when they split he went through new incarnations of the Small Faces and Pie, then he gigged on his own before dying in a fire in the early Nineties. A talent that was destroyed by drink and drugs.
That just about covers it, but you left out one thing, he was AMAZING!! Highly respected by his peers. Many, including Plant, Daltry and Bowie called him the greatest blue/soul singer Britain ever produced. But yes, he did have his demons. Bless him...
Just 2 days ago you reacted to him doing "Black Coffee" & you seemed SO wowed by him. You seemed sincere. And even though he's older in this video I don't know how you didn't realize who it was if you were that impressed just a couple days ago.
And even though he was with Humble Pie on "Black Coffee" the announcer on the video said his name & everyone in the comments told you he was Steve Marriot. You said you wanted to go down that rabbit hole so when I saw you were already doing another song by him I thought that's what you were doing. Kind of a surprise to hear you say you'd never heard him before.
Saw him in a London Pub (The Royal Standard) about 30 years ago or so, I'd never heard of him at that time and had no idea how good my night was going to be when I went out for a laugh with friends and went there purely by chance.
Was that the pub in Walthamstow
@@robertphelps1574 Yes it was :)
Just remember this was 47 years ago... LET THAT SINK IN!!
Don't you get goose bumps? Yes lawd!!
Here's the crazy thing: Marriott's voice was almost completely shot at this point in his career. It was a shell of the hurricane he was once capable of singing...but even coked up and messed about at this late stage of his too-short life, he was a force of nature.
Lol noooo his voice was better than in those screaming oversinging overprojecting aiming for the cheapseats HumblePie days
It's hard to believe he was the same guy from Small Faces singing about feeding the ducks in Itchycoo Park lol. Such a chameleon-like talent gone too soon! thx for sharing Shawn & Mel :)
Brilliant Marriott
he was 5'4' but had a HUGE voice. Listen to the live cover of the Ashford/Simpson song "I Don't Need No Doctor" by his band Humble Pie
Most people know Ray Charles I don't need no doctor. If you haven't heard Nick ashford's version he recorded it in 1966.
Got to see him in Humble Pie in the mid 80s. Small club in So. Cal. Pie was a two guitar band for years but this time around Steve covered all the guitar parts. BTW, Jerry Shirley, drummer, rejoined the band after drumming for Fastway and Greg Ridley was back to hold down the bass! Apparently there was talk of Peter Frampton coming back to the band but Steve died before that took place. I always wondered what they could have done together again but we'll never know.
Brilliant. I was watching the two of you impressed with the guitar-playing and thinking, "Wait til they hear him sing...here it comes...heh, heh..." 3:30 😄 I saw Steve Marriot play several times live in small venues around London and he blew the crowd away every time. On one occasion there was a student band on first. They were pretty decent and played some U2 and other contemporary stuff. Some of them stayed for Marriott and I was wondering how they'd react to him. Out he came, the tiny geezer in the dungarees and he bantered for a minute and then let rip with his raw Blues & R&B sound...and their jaws nearly hit the floor. They were spllbound for the for the rest of the gig.
Look for "i Wonder" from the Humble Pie album "Smokin'"....It's a Steve Marriott killer...
A+ reaction to an A+ song …fantastic artist
You Guys have already reacted to Steve when he Sang "Black Coffee" with Humble Pie and The Blackberries.
And as You said then this Man has Soul .
Thank you, I've been a Steve Marriott fan since Humble Pie & and the Small Faces. But I ain't never heard this.
He was also the Artfull Doger on stage, in London as a child in Dickenson famous play.
I never heard of this guy before ,he was a badass !
What is so new for you was so mormal for us back in the day, glad you joined us . Enjoy
Steve was so talented, he and Randy Rhoads are two musicians I would have liked to see get old.
Imagine their talents after forty more years of playing, being influenced by other musicians, and just getting more talented each passing day. I guess there is a lot of musicians that were taken too soon, Jim Croche, Buddy Holly and Richie Valens, Jimmy Hendrix, Hank Williams, Jim Morrison, Ronnie Van Zant, Janis Joplin, Tupac Shakur, Selena, Brian Jones, Mark Bolen and Amy Winehouse. There are so many more. All the ones mentioned died in their twenties, except Steve Marriott, he was 44
This is a Testament to how strongly American Blues music influenced the British (and others) bands that they brought it back over the pond and killed it (in a good way). Steve Marriott was a great lead singer and guitarist. 👍👍👍
He's one of my favorite singers after all he taught Peter Frampton I to say
INSANE!!!!!! 😻😻😻😻😻😻
Same Dude who sang "Black Coffee"....leader singer for Humble Pie.......sang "My skin is white but my soul is black"
First time subscriber here. You caught my attention when I saw you were reacting to Steve Marriott, my favorite rock/blues hero. Two songs you might love , 2 amazing blues performances.
I Wonder by Humble Pie Smokin album
Help Me through the day Steve solo from album Marriott
Steve Marriott had so much soul. Totally intense singing and playing with such great feeling. He was the man, no question about it. 😎👍
What a treat!! Thanks!
No wonder mick jagger didn't want him in the stones. He is a genius.
Jagger was flat out scared of Steve's talent and knew he would have been overpowered not only vocally but blown off the stage by his guitar and harmonica prowess!!!
One of the best
I WONDER
"I wonder" is another great blues number from Humble Pie.
that's a great song
Black Coffee-- Humble Pie featuring Steve Marriot!
In Steve's own words from his song "Black Coffee"...His skin is white but his soul is black. Saw Steve with Humble Pie as my first concert, been chasing that high for many years having seen aprox. 50 top name bands in concert.
Mel...This wasn't your first time hearing Steve. Steve was the singer-player from Humble Pie you reacted to a while back
Every one tells you about his time in humble pie but Stevie started off in a band called the small faces you should check out this band to feel the full force and power of his vocals
Nothing makes me smile more than seeing black/African Americans (can I say this shit now in 2024) loving Brits playing black/african American (can I say this shit in 2024) music. The love these guys are giving him is just so awesome. The beauty and spiritual essence of music transcends everything in the end. Even time itself.
I find it hard to understand and fathom that at 53, I truly discovered Steve this year, although I did have Humble on a play list. It's blown my mind. His talent is towering. This guy is the real deal. He can play astonishingly well and his voice is pure passion blues/soul.
Quite simply, I now rate Steve Marriot to be one of the greatest blues/rock and roll voices from the UK. There is little that can stand up to his talent.
Robert used to stalk his early gigs I read.
And Mick went white when he auditioned for the Stones. He was told to play guitar and not sing😂
Maybe myth, maybe legend.
Who cares. The guy is a genius
Thanks for the joy and upload.
🙌Love from a Brit
OK my age is almost the same as Steves! Too sad he died in the
80th. I had the big Luck to talk to him in the UK. A very nice and gentle
man and funny too! I was listening to his Band Humble Pie in London -
what a Concert!! If you would like to know more about Steve Marriot,

I have Love Steve Marriott 50 days he was with Humble Pie 30 days in the hole black coffee I Don't Need No Doctor just a few of my favorites love this song love this song love it the blues at its best
Steve had the greatest vocals of both Rock and Blues period. Go for Humble Pie - I Wonder and I Believe To My Soul.
Great song
As an old hippie, we were blessed with the Blues, Soul and Rock+Roll from musicians of EVERY color. MUSIC had it ALL back in my day. From England to USA..it came from the deep South. Our generation broke color barriers by the music they made. PEACE & LOVE was our anthem. ✌❤ May it carry on...🎵🎵
I love Steve's voice and guitar playing!! Great suggestions from everyone for his many other great songs. Could I suggest you might also like Grand Funk Railroad "Inside Looking out" - live, 1969 - it's another great performance to behold!!
Listen to Steve Marriot in humble pie awesome 👍
Shawn and Mel, I love you. God bless you, are my favorite reaction channel. Thanks 🙏
You're doing Humble pie!! I just subscribed, some of their hits "30 days in a hole", " l don't need no Doctor " just to mention a couple but they have many👍
Check out the song All or Nothing from Steve Marriott first band Small Faces
Time to get some Johnny Winter live at Woodstock. School girl.🤠✌️🎸🇺🇸🇨🇦
Didn't you just do Black Coffee by Humble Pie? Steve sang that song too! Your favorite line was "My skin is white, but my soul is black!" This and all things done by Steve Marriott are on my Watch Later... again list! A front man comparable to Freddy Mercury!
Also check out his Stay With Me Baby! He takes us to church!! ruclips.net/video/lfnZji61tsA/видео.html
@@suecook1326 And What's the Matter, Baby, a cover of a Timi Yuro song from back in the early 60s.
