  • Man this bus was a trifecta of braking problems. Important brake parts falling off, rusting apart, brakes going out of adjustment. Making this bus safe to drive again.

    Great work Scott. That sack adjuster must be one of the odd parts to go out. Also shows that unless you have experience with this kind of break system you would never know where to look for the issue.

    Scott, you really need to do a full roller brake test on these vehicles before you start to work on them. It will give you an insight to the problems affecting them and the areas of concern. When the work has been completed another full brake test should be done to sign off the work, apart from anything else it will give the owner confidence and will keep your product liability insurance provider happy.

      All this after they were adjusted 1k miles ago? Am I missing something

    • @scrumpydrinker
      @scrumpydrinker Год назад

      @@billcooper2584 air braking systems fitted to these vehicles are complex and it can be easy to miss the less obvious indications that things have gone awry. That and a poor previous safety inspection record can cause problems like this to show up. This is in no way casting any blame on either the owner or Scott as both have done the best thing in the circumstances, rather it highlights the need for regular inspections on these vehicles.

    Ive never seen the internals of a slack adj. Neat. I teach all the new drivers at work to air the system up then pull down the trolley valve go around and listen for air leaks and look to see if the slack adjusters have moved. You can only look at them with out a box on the chassis.
    I was driving a different truck one day. Got pulled behind the scale house. They had me tryn the steering wheel lock to lock. Managed to ripe off the brake line to the paas side steer axle.
    Thats always a long day.

      I was there with my 1960 GM 40' bus, I parked on a 14'x48' billboard tarp (cause that Hillary storm had gone through earlier and I was concerned about damp ground), turned out to be the best thing for the later rain! Was still a great year just stayed 3 days longer and the lakebed was dry and drivable again :-)
