If you put your hands and feet in a plastic bag when putting on your wet suit it reduces the friction and makes it a lot easier, it an old surfers trick from Australia.

Glad to see Benjamin is on the mend. Cleaning is a pain and not without hazards but doing it yourself also gives you warning of other problems below the water. RAN use a small airline compressor pump for hull cleaning without air tanks etc.. or the risks of using a snorkel. Its safe light and allows freedom of working or recovery of dropped items in shallow but difficult turbid waters. Marina waters being shallow tend to be warmer and eutrophic....from higher nutrient and raised plankton levels. So its ideal for growing .. hard coatings tend to shed less particularly when cleaning has to be done. Copper whilst a contact biocide is a common naturally occuring element in rocks and sea water....that complex organisms have evolved to cope with and can be dealt with in the marine environment.. other elements like lead, arsenic and cadmium are far more problematic. Organic Cyanides occur in nature ..in plants and and animals that accumulate them. You need a passarel for your stern to dock gap... You won't be so steady for long and we dont want you having to go to hospital before your ready 💙🌻🌻🌻💙⛵😎 Polaroids 😎 are compulsory for rock spotting. Ive often thought that yatchs should have duel sounders, forward looking vertical scanning sonar not too powerful as its a problem for Marine animals.
Yes, so great to have Benjamin back in his normal habitat again. Cleaning is indeed a pain but also fun to do, you can see the result instantly and gives a nice feeling of accomplishment. We will have a "deep" dive into portable solutions without the air tanks. We had coppercoat before and had to use a scraper to get rid off the mussels and growth as well, we do like the sustainable solution. Regarding the passarel ;) it's a funny story, we carried it for years and never used it, so we decided to give it to another B57 owner, Rianne insisted ;) It was a lightweight fancy one but I believe a wooden plank would work as well. When we go to the Pacific we would go for a forward scan sonar. Thanks for your comment, really love it to interact. Have a great day!
@@FeeltheBreeze I thought it a bit odd a yatch like that didnt come with one 😉 My friend who lost his hearing one side ..was middle aged so healing slows down. Look forward to your findings.. The Dutch guy behind Sailing Oceans incorporates powdered copper into his gel coating..he's been a fabricator for over 30years and lives on his trimerans Dawn and Twilight in Portugal. One variable that might affect growth that might be happening Is natural adaptation... Some locations especially in river estuaries and bays may naturally high levels of metals in the run off ..from old mining operations... eg the Rio Tinto and some of the Rivers of SW England from copper and tin mines over hundreds of years also from natural mineral deposits....All the organisms naturally have adapted to raised levels of what we would regarded as toxic heavy metals.. It's this ability that can allow ecologists to select plants and microbes to reclaim contaminated habitats and even extract metals. When fresh water carrying microscopic clay particles mix with salt water a ionic reaction takes place ..and the clay particles start sticking together like wet snow flakes .. they get larger and start to sink ... its called flocculation ...basically its why so many river estuaries are so muddy..and full of life.
Did you guys managed to clean the boat. There is also undewater cleaning, I can send you the link of the company that does that in Montenegro. But still the best way is do the antifouling again.
You can always send the link, thanks. The anti fouling is an experiment and invention from our home country, it will last 5 years minimal, most anti fouling is very toxic for sea life and this one not.
The scuba gear is a great idea, adds another dimension to your sailing adventure. All you need is an extension air hose 30 to 40 feet so you can leave the tank on the boat when you are cleaning the bottom. You could throw the tank in the dingy and let Ben-G scuba with you also, he might need his own regulator. Have fun.
