A better Trimaran than Vagabonde's?

- How does this Neel Trimaran compare to Sailing La Vagabonde's new Trimaran? We sail from the berry Islands in the Bahamas on our Neel 43 Trimaran to Rose Island right next to Nassau. It was a really good sail and we reached speeds of 10 knots.

Bobby, I've been a long time viewer, but don't comment much. I wanted to share a quick story with you. My dad passed away a while back from cancer. While he was going through Kemo and radiation, he spent quite a bit of time watching your videos, here on RUclips. You were his favorite channel to watch. He viewed your videos, right up until he passed. He said that doing so kept his mind off what he was going through and genuinely enjoyed every episode. Glad to see that you're able to "pilot" so many different boats, I think this is especially important for the folks that are looking to getting into sailing or perhaps looking at upgrades from their current situation. Anyways thank you to you and Stephanie and everything you both are doing, keep up the great work and content🙂
Wow that’s humbling. So glad that our videos were able to give him joy and inspire. I hope it inspire others as well and motivates people to go out and follow their dreams. Thank you!
Sad, that he did not watch The Truth About Cancer instead. Then he could still have been alive, I can tell you with confidence. Don't get angry on the messenger, but do get angry on the corrupt world we live in, including the so-called health care system. I by the way personally know many people, who have survived and overcome even supposed terminal stage cancers, all following one of many alternative procedures. All, that I know personally, who went the oncology way, including my sister and mother, are long dead. I am angry, I can tell you!
@@1corinthians15.1-4kjv Just keep it for yourself. I guess no need for undereducated televangelist sh*t in a sailing channel under a comment of a mourning son.
I like your videos and look each time Steph inadvertently raises her left hand. Looking for AT LEAST a pearl solitary 😏🤞🙏😜keep up the good work and showing what off shore sailing is like. Good Karma between you two - thanks !!
By the way we where in the BVI’s the same week you where - Steph’s demonstration of the bow step on the Highfield is so important. While moored at Saba Rock my wife slipped and cut her shin requiring 14 stitches ( no liquor involved!! ) I asked Moorings about most common injuries by Charters - # 1 people getting in/out of their RIB’s, slipping / falling.
It wasn’t rough, she had Sperry Topsider on to boot - no pun intended !!
Getting to the clinic in Spanish Town is another story in itself.
Sail On you two !!!
I honestly cannot believe Vagabond gave up their Outreamer. That boat is a work of art. Stunning.
They didn't give it up, they charter it as a business
12:46 "keep your thoughts in here Steph" too funny.
Every boat build has a specific purpose, whether it be a power or sail boat. The Neel seems to have good office space, has the right hull design for that length. I am happy for you and your family now having a great working area to socialise and sleep.
I have not seen La Vagabonde 60 on the water; only in the workshop. My goodness, the volume in the main hull is enormous, in the main cabin, the sleeping areas, cloths closets, engine room and kitchen cabinets, for four adults and two children; it is an enormous try hull. I am looking forward to see the final product sailing with average sails up. I am looking forward to seeing the La Vagabonde go on a test run to see it's moderate capabilities on the water. Elayna wants security, safety and liveability on the seas and islands for herself and two sons. While Riley wants those same things as well as speed to get out of trouble if and when the need arises. They wanted specifically everything on their tri hull to be carbon fibre for strength, lightness weight wise and far less maintenance with no stainless steel brass or the like. Their 60ft Rapido Trimaran in my opinion will be an experience to be-hold; watching it go through it’s sea trials and the learning process for both of them as well as their adult experienced sailor guests on their 60ft Rapido Trimaran.
I love slv and Riley and think he's making the right choice for what they want, however, ever since seeing the layout of the Neel and what that brings to a family, especially with children I still think the Neel is the better home, not the better boat.
The thing is, this Neel 43 is not comparable with the Rapido in price, not even by a long shot, but instead the Rapido 40! Try to fit a family on that one! Neel 65 is priced on par with Rapido 60, but that one is essentially a floating home or hotel in comparison.
You two are just awesome, the videos are the very best, and comfort over speed any time. The Bobby and Stephanie Show is the best on land or sea, 😍😍😍😍😍😍
Hi Bobby and Stephanie. Great video. Love the sounds of the waves. I miss that. 😊 Can't wait for more ❤😊
love watching you and Steph sail. Hang in the girl!
Totally agree with your assesment of liveable space.
I’m glad to see Steph back 😊
This is also my favorite channel to watch but I do watch others as well. You always have great scenery and crew, good eye candy no doubt. Keep it up Bobby. Love you all from the Philippines.
It’s great seeing you and Steph sail as a team! Great sailing footage!
Nice Ride!! I love how Bobby say's the food is pretty good! Has he ever been amazed by anything he eats 🤣
Who is your 3rd. And why is she there? Is she trying to come out of her shell? Does she do anything?
Is she just a paying ride along passenger?❤
Missed the chat.....Wow Steph you became a true sailor, hands down!!!! congrats young lady!!!!...beautiful work editing Bobby, nice shots!!!!...well rounded episode guys....good job!!!!....stay safe, and as always love y'all guys!!!!
What a treat to hang with you guys at Bottom Line a few days ago for lunch!! Steph you are soooo the star of the show ❤!
Thanks Booby for the nice video. It’s a bit more of actual sailing rather personal interactions, which may be boring to some, but I found it very fun and relaxing. I loved the sound and it brought back memories of my old sailing days.
Good job! Keep it rollin'!!
Great video that is a pretty sweet boat..thanks Bobby Steph and crew...stay safe
Ugh it’s nice to see some positive beautiful weather after my small town in Mississippi and home got destroyed in tornado March 24th. Just now able to use internet again. Thanks for the smiles Bobby and steph. I agree about the tri u r on. I’m interested to see how the rapidio works out for slv. For that size boat the living space seems so much smaller. We c. Lol
Very Nice Job Bobby!!
The cabin area seems way more spacious, although you haven't shown much of that yet. Also looks like it would be nice to have all the gear in the center hull with lots of headroom and space to do work down there, although you haven't shown any of that either.
Impressive boat, like this yacht!
Always great video's Bobby & Steph. Your passenger seems very quiet, hopefully she's enjoying her experience.
At the last, when they were at the table, the girl made an attempt to be included, but was ignored, she looked nervous about it, what was that about, and is she always excluded?
Remember the days of Taylor and Sydney and Tess.
Now we get these quiet girls.
I bet she is dealing with sea sickness.
That was an awesome video Bobby that's something I'll never be able to do
It's nice to see longer format videos in good ole BobbyVision again. :D
Dang Steph you are an expert sailor. I must say that is a fast boat. "Riding a horse" LOL but in rough water it is always best to stand so you can roll with the punches. The more I watch these videos of the Trimaran I am leaning that direction.
We have watched you since you had Maverick and Goose on your boat and now we are right next to you in George Town 😊….it took me 10 years to get out here, but here we are. Nice boat btw.
Looks like Steph is the "Cook"...fantastic sailing partner... nie sail.
Steph is Rocking it as a sailor.
Wow good news on the star link working under way, that is a game changing for working remotely from your boat.
Thanks so much for introducing us to the trimaran. Very interesting.
Bobby, I first met you and Megan in the BVI, I believe in 2017. You and Steph just took a photo with the captain of sailing vessel Caroline. I will be joining him in a week or so. Would love to dive with you guys if you’re still in the area.
Another nice video looks so nice again 🌴🌴
Great video
New girl seems nice but is basically unseen in the videos. Is she shy?
Now now, everybody has their boat preferences.
🎉
That was hysterical growing watermelons in your tummy.
That is sailing. Like the Neel too
That style tri makes a lot more sense as a live aboard vessel to me…
At this point you get a catamaran.
Very beautiful ☺🌸
Thank you! Cheers!
One word: EPIC!
Thank you for the update on Starlink. I was fixing to buy it for my sailboat that will soon be in the Caribbean.
If you liked the neel 43 , you would absolutely love the neel 65 ! Cost less than the rapido 60 and almost twice the living space ! 18 knots boat speed , no problem !
18kts? I've been trying to find performance specs on the 65 but that's not easy. Are you certain?
@@jamesaron1967 neel 65 trimaran has 1,200 square feet of living space and can sail easily at 18 knots ! Just goog it !
@@zzzxxzzz3248 I love the 65, can just imagine a carbon version..
@@jamesaron1967 👍
thank you for having stef back... whoop whoop
I always likened that feeling of keeling over in the sailboat to cornering on a motorcycle, imagining the force of our weight over the machine's tires on the riding surface as we lean over at velocity, into the turn. the wind in the sail is leaning in, grabbing and pushing against the waves of solid water, by way of the keels underneath, like a teeter totter, and the boat its fulcrum...
Remember most of the time is spent at anchor.
It's not all about the sailing experience it's the entire living... remember this is their homes.
great point! for the Lady, how is your core muscle group strength and stamina? we can work on easing that on shore while at anchor, with simple calisthenic exercises, like pilates... try 'the hundred' first.
great boat!
You’re comparing a cruising tri to a performance tri (albeit with some usable living space) may as well compare a mono to a Neil.
100% agree with the Neel over the Rapido.
if I ever get reincarnayed I want to come back as Doodles Skipper !!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
like the fact that you showed your mistake Bobby , learning curve . loving the glamping doodles and you Steph 🤟you are beautiful and i appreciate mary j so im crazy typing . big love guys
Have to take the seeds out or you grow watermelon in your tummy, she is just absolutely adorable💜⚓️🌴
Wow more room for swinging bet they love that
Ya I see what you mean . For us I would prefer the rapido . If you have children or constant quests it’s just to small . That seems to be a very livable boat
Never heard anyone complain about getting to sail on a beam reach lol, especially on a trimaran!
Another advantage of the Starlink system you have is that you can monitor instruments or cameras on the boat if they have WiFi. When you are away from the boat. André in Sydney
Damm nice Boat Bobby
Hope it will be nearly as good as your boat on order.
Easy answer: The NEEL, every time. At any length. Dodgy electrics and all.
The Rapido is a fantastic looking race boat with a shower and an electric dunny. The price difference is hilarious.
I could get Chris White to build me a brand new Atlantic 47 with S Class Fibre glass for that money. I could buy his Atlantic 55 for the northern hemisphere and a NEEL 43 for the southern hemisphere for that money.
You've done well with your tri. Absolutely.
Chris White's boats are vastly better built and likely far more seaworthy than Neels. No comparison. A car analogy would be Aston Martin to Volkswagen.
Rapidos are pricey due to all the Carbon and quasi-race quality. Chris' boats are more high performance cruisers than racers.
You gotta be kidding comparing that apartment block on water to the Rapido 😂😂
I loved your trimarã
Nice video. Really nice to see sailing as the feature of the video. That as opposed to being only a side note to what you do on shore and at the beach. Nice boat.
Every day is a great day! At least that's what I keep telling myself. 🙂 Into each life some rain must fall,
Some days must be dark and dreary. 🚄
More good stuff.
Just loved ❤ this series of episodes. Bobby & Steph, you guys are both awesome on camera. Thanks for your comparison of the 2 trimaran boats. I think your choice was correct. It's not always about speed. An F1 will get you to the drive-in faster, but you will enjoy the movie better in a Minivan. 😂 One quick question. What is the camera you are using on the pole, Bobby? I think the shots are amazing. I am looking forward to your next video. Until then, be happy, be safe, and tell my fellow Canadian, I'd love to see more of her in the videos.😅
thanks!
insta 360 x3
Not a great title though Bobby!
When are getting to see the inside layout/tour??
An F1 has an accelerator as yachts have sails. If you can't outrun the storm, why bother getting thrown around in a 43 when you can enjoy the comfort of a 60 footer!
@@TA-wg9oi What do you even mean with that nonsense? The Neel 43 is priced on par with the Rapido 40, not their 60, which is in fact the same price as a Neel 65. But the space in this 43 is about the same as their trimaran, the Neel 65 is really a floating villa. Self-defeating comment of yours, in my view! I do like Rapido too, though, just to be clear. They got different virtues, the Rapido is probably as close to a performance boat, as you can get, when still has room for comfort to cruise, but the Neel offer even more space than catamarans, but still offer a better ride and speed than most catamarans would do. He also states that. It is all about the compromise, that you are willing to make and what you value the most. I actually do not quite get, why La Vagabonde pay so much emphasis on performance, when they actually are an entire family cruising. It is not like they are going to win races in the Rapido either, but it will be a bit faster in extreme conditions for sure.
Nice video. Haven't followed yall in a while. Did you sell your Hatteras? Hope yall have safe time out on the water. Glad to see your all enjoying life.
I’ll take the Rapido any day of the week. Build quality between the two are miles apart.
Interesting the difference between this craft and what LaVagabond is building. Thier's seems to be space wise essentially a mono hull, with a great deal of storage space in the outriggers. And at 60 feet.....Personally, with kids, I would prefer a bit more space and sacrifice some performance, but I get what and why they are doing what they are doing. This craft you are using is a very interesting vessel. Thanks for sharing. 1 note, on the filming.....to much quick movement of the drone and the stick, sometimes it's hard to watch and with such beautiful scenery it would be nice to see it clearly for more than a second, just my personal preference. Safe travels. Oh, and please get Geraldine back on the boat. Love her.
this is a condomaran😂
I think you’ll love your Starlink. We’ve been using it RVing for about 6 mos.
That is the sailboat I want...I like the 43 better then the 47 for solo and couple sailing
The Neel 47 has a great layout. Buying a Rapido to cruise with is a mistake. Neel strikes a great balance between comfort, performance and safety.
I like the Neel 47 least of the line-up. The 51 strikes the best balance of price and space.
@@jamesaron1967 I'm curious why not the 43 the least? The U shaped galley and ability to put a real TV on the wall put the 47 ahead for me. Otherwise the 43 is great.
@@carsonc1272 I wanted to love the 47, but the exterior access to the guest cabins and layout of guest heads is a deal breaker for me. I would love to see a redesign of the 47 with interior ama access.
Hope there are some interesting crew coming
Looks fun n a short skirt/dress.
Interesting that this one seemed to go 10kts relatively easily, the Wyns had a hard time getting it to go that fast, they thought it was down to not having a large enough sail but it didn't look like you had much up. That wreck could be nasty at night unless that was a wreck light on it.
Well this is certainly NO Vaga Trimaran, it seems more like a Pregnant Cat with it's belly hanging in the water. Just not wide enough to take advantage of the stability of 3 hulls over just 2. It IS a very good apartment on water though with lots of space inside and out. Love that your able to take this tri out and show us the ropes , how it really performs on the water rather than the usual sales pitch from the manufacturer
No one choose the Rapido for the space - but for the sailing ability and speed witch stands out from the like of Neel etc.. The Neel is about as wide as a similar lengt catamaran - so it hasnt got more stability but a more stressed motion with its 3 hulls.
A Rapido would make sense if you only lived in it during crossings. The issue is 90% of a liveabord cruisers time will still be spent on anchor and most sane people would gladly sacrifice a few knots top speed over literally twice the living comforts during that time... The Outremer 45 is already a pretty fast boat.
There are plenty of fast catamarans with better living space if not more space. The Orc 57, for example. I'd much rather have the ORC than the Rapido. The layout is superior in a very fast liveaboard if that's what you're after. I'm sure those two boats could trade blows in various conditions as far as performance is concerned. As a matter of fact, James from Carry on Sailing channel who owns a Neel 51 is considering the Orc 57, not a Rapido 60 for a replacement.
Regarding the Neel 43 featured in this video, it is actually a little wider in the interior where it matters than a comparatively sized catamaran, and you won't find a cat under 60ft with a master cabin on the bridge deck, which is a hallmark of Neel yachts. Some people may not care about that but it's one of my sought out features in a multi-hull. I prefer cats over tris but no cat reasonably priced exists with a cabin on the bridge deck. They don't have the room.
@@jamesaron1967 Its not about interior space for everyone - you dont ned 4 doubles if you sail with two people or a small family. If speed and safety is high on the list a trimaran will do the job. To sail fast with a performance cat - you will loose safety - on a trimaran you will still have hit - going fast.
Bobby are you wearing a lifeline during your walk around camera shooting underway? Just wondering how quick Steph could identify the situation, heave to, drop sails and motor back to you? Do you have her practice while you sit back and watch?
I agree with you about the living space of the rapido. It's in the name, so probably even the company agrees. With two children I was wondering why but I am sure the selection will be clear as they start to use it. Maybe they want to go to more places in a single season, and performance is key.
They also have a nanny on board for their children. That's five people. I think the Vagabonders will find out sooner or later that even a 60ft trimaran with living space solely in the center hull will feel a little cramped at times with that many people on board. But they'll be quicker than any YT sailing channel out there, so it's worth it, LOL..
Their sleeping arrangements include crew/friends sleeping outside. Not really sustainable in the long term in unpleasant climates.
Sounds like Neel Trimarans are the winners and Bobby's choice boat ⛵🚢! Great drone shots!
He's getting an Island Spirit 525. A Neel 51 or 52 would be a lot faster...
@@angela1984a Yeah but I imagine price tag is probably different. I don't even understand how people are comparing Neel trimarans to a limited/custom Rapido that costs over 2 million dollars.
@@josephdover198 Rapido also has a 50ft and a 40ft. Those aren't going to be 2 million... The Rapido's are limited because of Rapido's current production facilities. There's a limit to how many they can build. I'm guessing there are a limited nr. of build slots for Neel trimarnas as well... I wonder how much more money a A Neel 51/52 is compared to the Island Spirit he's getting. That Island spirit has quite a lot of solar and batteries. The batteries and solar part is of course a good thing, but as illustrated in these vids about the Neel 43, a Neel would sail so much better compared to that Island Spirit cat...
@@angela1984a I'm aware of Rapido's line up. There's no questioning how much better built, lighter and faster they are than Neel. Btw I wouldn't be surprised if Riley's rapido 60 wasn't more along the lines of 2.5 million. There's a lot more to it than just "Hey build me a standard Rapido 60."
@@josephdover198 As I remember it the base price for a Rapido 60 before the Russian Dictator invaded was around 1.6 million...
nice place
At 2:17 the point at the port side of the dinghy rest seems like a great way to wear and tear a hole into that Highfield over time. Not sure what the designers were thinking.
Your new guest doesn't say a whole lot..
Clearly shell shocked by the swinger role she didn't realize she was getting herself into.
Yeah me too bobby the Neel is much better especally if you got kids well toddlers im really leaning to the Neel 65 i want to sail Thailand's beautiful waters..
Good choice!
Neel 65 is huge. Perfect for a family.
@@jamesaron1967 yeah i agree much better than a rapido if you have kids..
Two difficult tri,s Rapido design for max speeds the Neal for more comfort. With boats there are always sacrifices in different areas
Just an FYI they define the "in motion" as greater than 10mph so maybe 8.1 knots. And more than that anywhere within the hexigons shown for land still count as land even if you are sailing or on the water!
I love the Neel design and layout. To me I agree with your assessment of better live ability. That is what you want when at location. However in my research I keep seeing negative comments on Neel quality. How long did you have yours and what was your overall assessment?
Will be good to compare Plukky from Sailing into Freedom's new Mumby cat build when it's completed. His also giving away free his Yacht Freedom to a deserving soul that cant afford to sail, but want's to.
How would you compare your Neel experience vs the Neel east coast delivery by the Wynns ?
As much as I love the Wynns as people (they're really great), I think they were a little over their heads with the 47. It's a totally different kettle of fish than what they were used to or ever sailed before. It didn't help that they were on a boat with hurricane damage which required repairs. On top of that, they had very disagreeable conditions that exacerbated their whole ordeal. It's as if the Fates conspired to make the entire experience as bad as possible for them. This cemented their first impressions of Neel yachts and trimarans in general, and you know what they say about first impressions. I don't expect them to be on another trimaran any time soon.
All boats have shake down periods right after delivery, for a very good reason. That same thing could also happen in even the most extreme performance oriented catamarans or even luxury yachts. I did not see anything in that series, that convinced me, that Neel under-delivers in any way, and Neel does by the way not pretend to be a performance multiful, unlike Rapido. It absolutely is a range of cruising oriented multihuls with copious amount of indoor space and good sailing performance on top. Neel actually highlights a comfortable sail over speed in their own PR too. However, Neel do sail more efficient than most same priced catamarans.
Stef is a remarkable cocaptian and she looks like a great cook, not to mention a very attractive young lady!
Bobby, Have you managed to set up a turbo trainer yet on the new trimaran? Looks looks a solid boat though? you happy with it so far I hope?
Riley would probably be rippin 15 out of that breeze
damn this video title was nuts
Not a chance! Build quality of the Neel is very average (esp the interior, not to mention the issues owners have had with them) and performance-wise, the Rapido would outpace a Neel any day of the week. But sure, whatever tag line gets you more views!😂
Yeah an ill conceived title for sure.
Bobie's babe's, boobs, butts, bikini on boats. Free trips or paid?
When you live and sail on a neel 65 and sail the rapido , the neel 65 is the way to go especially if more than 4 people on board ! Rapido 60 is only big enough for 2 couples with a bigger price tag !
Pitty you resorted to that title 👎
@@zzzxxzzz3248 And a completely different sailing experience. It’s like comparing a Lagoon and an Outremer... not to mention the build quality, which goes back to getting what you pay for!
I love how the global sat networks are advancing. Together with localisation and emergency detection systems in about 10 to 15 years the world will look pretty different, that is if we don't nuke ourselves into the pre-history that is.
I read that title and said _this gotta be a joke_
When are getting to see the inside layout/tour??
"A better Trimaran than Vagabond" Dream on!
I'll just assume during negotiations that Neel said you had to plug their production and cheaper boats against Rapido? lol everything on a Rapido is carbon fiber. Everything on that boat is fiberglass.
I worked offshore for 3 1/2 years that was over ten years ago now I'm a soon to be Java developer that loves being on the water I think I may do this and sail but only thing bad is you cannot travel all year round unless your very very experienced. Even then winter months I would've advise traveling the seas.i hope you always have an E.P.I.R.B. and and emergency inflatable life raft they save lives.
Given SLV's totally unprotected helm station - I would say yes - Neel is better in this case! What were they thinking!
How do you know it's a better trimaran?
Until we see you hit 20kts sustained, I might have to keep the Rapido at the top of the list.
