- Don't want to spend $500 on a side drill and 80$ on auger bits? Here's a simple time-saving trick!

Thanks a million. The tip on using the drill is really great and the video comparison is a slam dunk argument to use that method.
It works in a pinch if you're on a budget or can't go get better tools ^^
there's a much better way with a more expensive bit I show at the end, but most people have the hole saw and the drill bit kicking around
This is gold Jerry. Thank you so much for this incredible tip
Good video. I thought you cannot drill more than on hole on the same stud without doubling the stud? Were you able to pass inspection as it is? Thanks
@terencelee9704 code might be different where you are. for me, it's not load bearing, only holding up drywall, so they mostly don't care. check with your local codes to be sure tho!
Thanks. Good video. I drilled out my first hole today!!!
they do make better bits! I just didn't want to spend on them at the time 😆
Thanks! Saved me some money and frustration drilling a couple 2" holes for some conduit!
Did the same sorta thing for cutting windows into foundation 😁
@@MooseDoesStuff yeah, i've done this for running dryer vents through my brick exterior... Just didnt think of doing it for counduit in top plates due to severe numbskullery. The holesaw makes it quicker and damn so much easier to remove the plug
You can also wallow while you are hole sawing and it makes the core really easy to come out
On a non load bearing wall I read you can drill 60% so up to 2.1” max bore with 5/8” left to the side. If you are getting inspected don’t make holes this large or it won’t pass. Maybe this was just an example before the studs were demolished.
@@rotorav8 or maybe codes are different where you are. this was inspected, and it passed. both plumbing and building.
@@MooseDoesStuff just talking about IPC and UPC
@@rotorav8 canada uses cpc
Thanks for sharing. Seeing is believing.
Thank you!
glad to help!
I my location if you drilled stud like that you will need to support every board with steel stud supports or replace all the lumber.
basement walls, no load
@@MooseDoesStuffwhat if it was a wall for Sheetrock
@@Thefishingplumber nailing plates
@@MooseDoesStuff but like notching for a 1 1/2 pipe would that weaken the wall 🤔 for Sheetrock or tile in a shower?
@@Thefishingplumber drywall holds itself up, it doesn't need any 'strength' in the wall. same for any tile backer you might use, durock, schluter, cement board, none of that relies on the strength of the wall. (flatness is a whole other issue)
For this wall, it was in the back of a closet, and behind laundry cabinets. So doubly no worries.
Thanks for sharing i love this idea
Thanks for sharing.
Did you have to put stud shoes on each 2x4 that you drilled a hole though?
I had to put nail plates on to protect from drywall, but this didn't have any load concerns so I didnt have to do anything stronger than that.
Thx Bro great tip
Architect should/must know the codes 4 your area (its the job) & design such wall to bee framed by 2x6.
@kamalakrsna architect job is NOT to know building codes 🤣😂
why would you frame a wall in 2x6 when u don't need to?
and how would that change the size of hole u need drilled?
There must be an easier way to remove the wood cutout piece from the hole saw..
If you ever find it, PLEASE let me know!
@@MooseDoesStuff pretty sure you are meant to cut through half the timber till your pilot hole pops through the other side.. then continue the cut on the other side so when both meet in the middle only the remaining half of the plug sits in the hole saw and you just grab it with your hand.
just take it out with a flathead. but also these hole saw tips suck get a big hawg carbide tip
I just use my flathead and get the puck out easy
I drill a hole in way less time then that but I do I everyday
same. it takes me 4 seconds to drill a 2 inch hole lmao
Yea maybe through plywood. Why don't you make a video and show us how it's done Mr 4 second man. At least this guy shared something to the world for people who mainly are DIY's. A ton of retired or weaker people would have trouble with this including people who go to the gym lifting over 200lbs have trouble with this.
