  • @privatename3621
    @privatename3621 Месяц назад

    Thanks for the video, but good lord! That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen! It's a attic hatch door, which means it needs to be easily opened and removed by anyone, including other family members (or older people or dainty ladies that may own your house later). You created such a monstrosity with that 2x4 frame and a crazy number of foam insulation layers. It boarders on clownish and is totally unnecessary. It is so thick and heavy with all those 2x4's that it makes it difficult to actually move or use. As other DIY videos show (for example: ruclips.net/video/lSLIbuR5WqU/видео.html), all you need is a couple layers of 2" foam board fastened together and to the plywood hatch cover with some double-sided duct tape. There's no need to create that 2x4 frame, and forcing someone else to maneuver your heavy creation over their heads while on top of a ladder, creating a potentially dangerous situation. And to to deal with that warping issue, you just needed to replace the old plywood board with a couple of back-to-back pieces of fresh (high quality, cabinet grade) plywood, screwed together to create an inch thing scuttle door. Or, just screw sheetrock on the bottom of one layer of plywood (asI have in my house from the original builder) which has the added benefit of being able to have the same ceiling texture as the rest of the ceiling. And with the new wood layers (with or without sheetrock) and the 4" of foam insulation, the new door is very unlikely to warp. Mine has never warped in over 26 years, with multiple use each year.

    • @MooseDoesStuff
      @MooseDoesStuff Месяц назад

      @privatename3621 tell me, why are you going into the attic?

    • @privatename3621
      @privatename3621 Месяц назад

      @@MooseDoesStuff To name a few: . to store and retrieve seasonal and long term storage items . to run new wiring or cabling . to check an extricate iguanas (which love to get into the warm attics through the gooseneck vents until I riveted chicken wire on them) . to replace AC line set . to check for leaks . to permit inspections when changing homeowners insurance etc. What an odd question. I suspect the reason you ask is to formulate an argument that the need to enter the attic is so infrequent, that its okay if it is painful and difficult and thus should not be an issue. Have I got that right?

    • @MooseDoesStuff
      @MooseDoesStuff Месяц назад

      @privatename3621 @privatename3621 nope. it's to point out that attics in different parts of the world have different uses. in Canada, their only use is to keep heat/cold in/out. no long term storage. no iguanas. no running new circuits, especially in a house that has all brand new wiring. no ac in the attic, if we have ac here it's on the furnace in the basement. most homeowners here NEVER go in the attic. you're on the internet, there are people from all over the world here! 😁
