I watched it when it aired. I enjoyed it as much then as i do now. It was the besy yv yalk show ever when comedy and celebrities were clasdy and quality. Johnny was the best.
Love Dianne Cannon's laugh and the POLKA lady, and especially Ben Vereen,, Betty Buckley, who has such a beautiful soprano and dramatic voice, and of course Andy Williams and Sammy Davis, Jr.
I'm so happy my best friend Diana Smith speak introduced me to this wonderful show. I remember thinking my God this is an old people show. I wish there was guys like him around now $430 crew here that show he was an amazing man. So Jimmy an amazing comedian. Nobody will ever replace him
Hello from England, 14 March, 2023.🇬🇧☺️. I am 75 , and never saw this show when it was current ...I don't think it was aired in U.K.?🤔. So it's so good now , to be able to see so many episodes here on RUclips. Interesting to see guests who went on since then to greater fame.☺️. So many funny moments! And Johnny's reactions, especially the " dead-pan " expression , after a comment, or an incident of some kind, like the marmoset " marking its territory" on Johnny's head ..😦...☺️. The impressions were also well done : I loved the confusion of words with " President Reagan " and aide, checking the day's engagements . And the time the mystic ( broad , bejewelled hat), came in , tripped and demolished the desk ! 🇬🇧💕🇺🇲☺️🎼⭐🌈🦉🇬🇧
I do not watch any talk show currently on in 2022. I cannot stand any of them. I want to be entertained, not preached to. I loved Craig Ferguson, Conan, Letterman until they ended, and now I watch nightly episodes of Johnny Carson on antenna tv just like I did as a kid in the 80's, and I have never laughed more and enjoyed a show as much as I do now.
I met Johnny Carson. When we were in L.A my cousin got us tickets to a taping. However I suppose I was too young to get in, and I was mad and maybe said something i shouldn't have anyways I ended up outside the whole show. But Johnny did a segment where he came out and said hi to everyone who didn't get in and he came up to me and shook my hand and said Hello to me. So missed the show but got to meet Johnny. I don't know if that was on the show but still very cool. They just don't make comedy like this anymore shame. Comedy Gold!! I don't watch T.V anymore no cable but I've been laughing my ass of listening to these shows. Thanks so much for posting it feels so great to laugh like that again. Oh my sides hahaha. Also, back before Woke to pick everything apart. We didn't care if it was offensive we in fact laughed harder then. We never did it in a malicious way but out of pure laughter. You cannot listen and not laugh a real laugh. The world has no sense of humor any more sad and I'm Disabled, Trans and Bi. Was 13 when this aired.
why didn’t you care it was offensive? by the way you describe yourself, you should’ve been extremely offended. makes me wonder what’s going on in your head. kind of weird, you criticizing todays society because it’s “too sensitive”. everyone who longs for these old days are just out of touch boomers who hate being held accountable. you’re weird. these same woke snowflakes you criticize are the reason you are able to be your true self….yikes
5:55 - I think we can all guess who that joke was directed at, hint hint Joan Rivers, who around this time was starting to launch her talk show on FOX which caused the ending of Johnny and Joan's friendship forever.
Was also about David Brenner, who had just launched. Strange to think of that as a proliferation, but in the 4 channel universe where only NBC had been in the game for a long time, it felt crowded enough to make a joke about the field being crowded.
Yes, each year from the mid 70s to 1991 was a clip show, and usually a prime time special in his later years. Some of the shows (or the monologues) are on RUclips.
They should have kept Jay. The tonight show is no good anymore. I don't watch anymore never will. Johnny Carson is number one. Jay wasn't that bad to be replaced.

@@davidwesley2525 Does seem to get worse..These shows today are just arms of the political machine..All one sided..Atleast Carson made fun of everyone and didnt use his show for no one
There was nobody better than Johnny. The music, the voices! Such great memories!!!

Being a bit of a night owl, wish Johnny was still around
Miss the good ole days
Especially now
It seems the world has gone wacko
Thank you
I watched it when it aired. I enjoyed it as much then as i do now.

Johnny was the best.
If you were blessed enough to be born in the 50's 60's you were born in the best of times..
I wish we could go back. Glad I got to be there
The ending was beautiful too 🌈I’m now 57 and remember this night 💫

14:30 Doc melting to the floor after going over the high b flat was priceless !
As someone who wouldn't have had the opportunity to see the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, the RUclips time machine is a gift.
These have helped me so much. Stress just melts away with laughter.
Thank you for providing these. 💕
Absolutely true.
Yes we need more of this on a daily basis in our time but I fear we won’t have much close to it but these do bring up my spirits and many others 💜
There will never be another like johnny. He, Elvis& Dean martin can never ever be matched...all kings@
I can't tell you how much I love that intro music I want that at my funeral
Many of these performers are gone...and certainly have changed....it reminds me of the impermanence of it all...
Even the commercials. Amazing thank you.
Please, take me back to the 80's of my youth and normalcy.
Watched a video called Judas Priest Parking Lot.....on u tube....1980s in a nut shell for me
Yes,,,where the time machine,I'm ready
Even The 17th Anniversary Cheers Me Up That Was 1979

TV13 from toledo! Never knew Jerry Anderson had a Ron Burgundy mustache back in the 80s
Quick wit and spontaneous humor. Something lacking nowadays
what a class act Johnny Carson was..so much more talented than the crap on late night today
No shit buddy.lets go
how can mean drunk who clearly had a problem be a class act???
❤️🙂👍 LOVE the 50s style orchestral version of his theme! 🙂 Miss you Mr. Carson! TOTAL CLASS ACT!!!
I luv the tonight show grew up watching it
Loved this show. I watched it because my grandpa used to watch it, even though my intellectual snob classmates in graduate school adored Letterman.
Thank you for sharing these!!
Ok, I may be in the minority but I love watching these old commercials too.
The promos for Miami Vice and Crime Story...Along with Private Eye, the BEST night of television ever!!
He is the greatest late night host. May he RIP

Ed's laugh is iconic.jay was decent but the tonight show died when Fallon took over.
I agree Fallon is terrible!!
How can you not love Johnny. He is so missed and we need him back to bring a better life. He was the best and there will never be another.

Very different terminology then.
Unrelated to the actual episode, but was that Tia Carerra in that milk ad? Also, who the HELL drinks milk at a bowling alley?!
Ed knew his place on the show with Birdy but he was so cool.ed was a legend.who is Andy Richter?
Did Johnny always celebrate his anniversary with a clip show?
There would be some great clips on the early ones if they have survived!
Yes he did. I heard that many of his early shows were tragically destroyed. 😢
@@coldwinter5710 The first 10 years were destroyed by NBC because tape was so expensive back then. NBC was using the tapes for other shows.

I would totally watch the Japanese knockoff every day!
Please guys go to 1:20!
Did not here that coming
I had just turned 4 years old
I was 8 when this aired. Wasn't allowed to stay up late to see the tonight show. Thank god for youtube.
35:43 huh.....who knew
Why do a 24th instead of a 25th? He also did a 19th not a 20th!? I don’t get it?
The 25th is also on RUclips.
He did an anniversary special every year up until 1991.
It's because they thought anytime thatJohnny was going to retire..

🙄
Thought It Was Good Trick What He Did To David Letterman
If PFMarcos is still alive today, you know what he'll say after US's the 2020 election "Who's laughing now America?" 😂
They should have kept Jay. The tonight show is no good anymore. I don't watch anymore never will. Johnny Carson is number one. Jay wasn't that bad to be replaced.
Truth. Donald Duck felt me up when I was 71/2 months pregnant. His hands went way too low. I pushed him away and said Shame on you! 🤢 gross!
The commercials are cringe worthy
This special sure beats Stephen Colbert’s paranoid anti-Trump rants.
Absolutely 👍
Colbert hasn't changed a bit. Still a political asshole.
What was the reasoning for odd-year anniversary observances - 19th? 24th?
What Horrible comercials!!!!
