    Paused at 3.49. Just a comment on the beginning of the game being slow. While thats true, it has the best payoff ive ever seen in a vidoe game. The letter Justin's mother writes him hits so freaking hard. And it wouldnt have if you had not finished each adventuring day with a meal between Justin and his mother.

    Glad to see you playing this one! Got it on the Playstation, the Switch, and (though I've yet to play it) the Saturn original in English. I've only beaten it once, even though I've played it around 20 times...I keep dropping it at the exact same point (the moment 8th Character joins). Why? 8th Character joins at, like, level 20 with trash magic/weapon stats, while by that point my other 3 characters are at least double that level and all-but maxed magic/weapon.

    Love Grandia. Back in the day I got every endgame character to level 99 in every weapon and magic by grinding scorpions in the last overworld area and still only hit about level 75 characters.
    Justin's immature and a goof, but that was a breath of fresh air back on the PS1 where every other JRPG protagonist was all-mope-all-the-time.

    Grandia... its been so long and i was shocked that you never played the second grandia... you REALLY should consider it playing later... maybe as stream or another patreon series... can't wait for parasite eve as well but grandia 2 has an awesome story some of the best bosses in rpg games... and quite a bit of a difficulty if you never played it before... + the characters there are adorable but not much of the stat weapon or xp system has been kept... its more of a classical rpg growth with a few twists... anyway another series to watch and be swept away in nostalgia keep up the good work and i hope your throat is all better now

    You should check out Grandia ReDux if you've played this game multiple times and are looking for an added challenge. It is a patch which increases difficulty, changes the characters movesets and adds new items. It feels a little like a NG+.
    Also, I think Justin's age is given away if you check the wall next to the stairs to his bedroom. I can't remember if it's dialogue he has with Sue though, or in his own when he leaves her.

  • @riseandshinemrfriman5925
    @riseandshinemrfriman5925 2 года назад

    Yup. This game is a gem with hidden magical powers. :P
    You wouldn't take it for such just looking at its cover or watching a trailer. The story is actually pretty well written and the characters are incredibly adorable. The music is fantastic and fits the overall theme and game world like a glove. Sound effects just as much. Combat is also quite neat for this type of game and especially for the time it was released in.
    There's one sad thing though... it has low replay value once you've gone through it. But that was a thing back in the days with JRPG's. They were a play-once-seen-it-all, albeit with pretty good and lengthy stories. You basically had to set your own goals if you wanted to replay the games without getting too bored (only some had side content, but can't recall which.Been too long).
    But even that was a thing in the past...we had to get creative to make the most out of our offline games. I still remember when i grinded Sonic the Hedgehog 2 so freakin hard that I learned how to get super sonic in act 1 and 1-2. ...so many failed bonus stages, lol. Also found ways to glitch in the game, and literally slingshot-spin out of the game boundries due to too high speed. xD
    Ah~ good days. :)
    Happy to see that folks still enjoy games like Grandia. Gives fuzzy feels. :D
    edit:
    I think my last save game on my Playstation that I had in Grandia, where I grinded out at end-game to get some skills I hadn't unlocked yet...I think it summed up to 60 maybe 75 hours total. And I got this game as a Platinum (budget) disc back then which went for like 20€. Imo. an absolutely astonishing money's worth. Back then, this game totally blew me away cuz I didn't expect such a great and lengthy game for only 20€ (It is a 2-disc game on the Playstation 1. Final Fantasy VIII for example had 4 discs, Final fantasy VII had 3 discs, just to put it into perspective).

Been powering up the 1st 4 four characters, just trying to decide if I should finish getting them maxed with their skills (which will take a while) or go on with the game as is. 🤔🤷 I also know that you lose 2 characters and can give their skill points to other characters, which is another reason I'm thinking about continuing with trying to max their skills.

    My biggest problem with Grandia is that it does have such a slow start. I mean, it's not Dragon Quest VII slow, but it does take a while to actually get going.

    • @Primalliquid92
      @Primalliquid92  2 года назад

      see i think the slow start suits it, but thats because i know whats to come later and how the slow start suits it, i do agree though it can be a big turn off for alot of people

    • @Primalliquid92
      @Primalliquid92  2 года назад

      its water and wind lol, but nah theres some "cheap" ways to do it REALLY fast, you can do wind 99 in like 2 hours later in the game, or like 5 hours early game

    I discovered Grandia very recently, I bought the limited Run Games physical release on the Switch but honestly I don't really like the game so far, I played 10h for the moment but I am not enjoying the game unfortunately but I think it's because I "miss something" maybe, the battles are long for me and I don't understand the magic system so I will definitely watching your walkthrough, learning how playing and then maybe give him another chance ^^.

      what part of the game are you upto currently? the game is one of them like FF8, it can abuse players who dont know alot, but once you know its one of the easiest games there is. so for sure stick with the walkthrough and you'll learn ALOT

    Grandia has a pretty big cult following it and has gotten some popularity behind it way after its time. But agreed, it's still underrated. It captures the sense and spirit of adventuring in the most amazing way ever!

    • @Primalliquid92

      it has a cult following for sure, but i would disagree with the "big" part. it has its own communties around but there all kind of small relativily speaking

    You said that you've probably beaten this game 50+ times, you also said you're 30 it came out in 1997 which means you probably would have been like 5, that would mean you on average play through Grandia 2 times a year and if I recall my last ~100% play through was somewhere in the realms of 30-40 hours? Christ that's a lot of Grandia.
