I haven't even got past the Ad yet and I don't know how to contain myself. Grandia needs more content across the entire world!
im probably going to do a playthrough soonish for it :)
@@Primalliquid92 I'm fully up for that!
I can never remember whether the first or second was the good one.
@@legefy both
Picked it up randomly as a small kid in germany not knowing what it was or what gem awaits me for the ps1 dayum best buy ever still play it to this day a masterpiece from Start to finish wished there would have been another journey with justin and feena
Ahh, Grandia. One of the first jrpg’s I fell in love with as a kid and still is one of my most favorite. A real tear-jerker of a story!
I was not expecting THIS! Haven't even watched the video yet but to just see Grandia again brought back SO much nostalgia and happiness!
“At this point Sue could solo the final boss” wait a second..,
First thing I do when I start grandia is I put sue to not make any actions besides defend and grind really really hard with Justin then start getting Mana eggs and after a certain point in the game go to dungeon with damage trap and Max out water then work on other elements and basically can solo any boss that comes my way
@@roxaszero2154 I always did that as well, never gave her a mana egg even once in my playthroughs.
I like Sue to have all her abilitys befor "Part two" of the Game, all her XP can be transfered to Feena and Justin at that Point so nothing waisted at all.
Justin: Alright Mullen, EN GARDE
Mullen: Why do I hear boss music?
Well Justin and mullen become best friends and sue becomes best friends with the 3 females soldiers(Nina, saki and mio) as she was hanging out with them in the end of the game.
Love all three mainline Grandia titles.Till this day I still say,
"Gadwins's secret move! DRAGONKING SLICE!"
I say that too lol
Thank you for acknowledging 3. It's my favorite and everyone seems to treat it like an unwanted child.
@@GracefulDiscension Today I learned there's a third Grandia game. Gotta check that out ASAP.
"Ten-Sei-Ken SLASH"
@@GracefulDiscension *Shudders* No idea how its your favorite. Its easily the worst of the three. That plot is freaking everywhere and the gameplay is just meh compared to the first two. But eh, to each their own.
I played and beat Grandia on the PS1 back when the PS1 was the big thing, and looking back on it there's this sort of innocence and light-heartedness to it. It starts out with a "going on an adventure" tone and sure, you end up saving the world in the end, but it never really gets dark and heavy like other, more well-known RPGs of the era, and that's to its benefit.
Grandia was and is one of the best games, ever. Such a beautiful little game and masterpiece.
100% agree
yes it is
I have to agree. Would love a remastered or something, but keep the battle system and level system. Graphic overload
@@Terins917 it’s bundled with its sequel on the Nintendo switch

I dare you to try lost oddysey. (Level cap making it only 1xp gained per fight after a certain level)
This is my exact play style in every rpg - I appreciate every video you do like these ... I can’t wait to get a pa4 so I can play ff7r so I can watch your play through
Great vid, one of my all time favourite games. Have you considered doing timed strength challenges instead of location/story progress? Id be interested to see something like how strong you can get in 20 hours on FF7 (original or re-release for 3x speed). Like would you use any of your grinding spots from your vids or low level run through for later grinding spots like the gelinka? Would you bench Aerith in favour of one of the later game characters life Yuffie to get her conformer weapon and source farm for stat boosts or use Aerith's fury brand to boost everyone elses level 3 limit break progress? would you prioritise exp or ap? weapons or armour and accessories? Early chocobo mating to get KotR and free roaming or ignore it in favour of story progression etc
I wouldn't mind watching you playthrough this game
If you feel like you're up for a challenge of Grandia, I recommend the Grandia Redux 3.1 Patch, which has reworked some of the spell and skill learning requirements as well as gave enemies some severly needed buffs and skillchanges, making the game a lot harder and for some of Feenas spells actually able to learn without grinding for 600+ hours ;3 you know the ones I mean~
Sir, you've gone far beyond what anyone should've ever done to himself for the sake of testing the limits of power in this game. The entire time you went on about levelling Sue, my mind echoed "but she leaves, why even bother?", and not only did you keep going, you added GADWIN to the equation! The guy who's already considered fairly OP by the time he joins the fray!
I'm appaled and impressed at the same time. Never before have I seen someone be this efficient at wasting this much time. And on one of the loveliest RPG's I've ever played.
Have my humble subscription, and my everlasting respect. Even if it's worth very little...
I know this is late reply but I lv sue for 3 things spells go to feena bow goes to Rapp n mace goes to Justin
To be honest, what I loved the most about Grandia is the story.
To me, a good story makes a game memorable and replayable even many years later.
As for the video, I did love that you still spent time leveling up Sue and Gadwin. Sue can go back to the village being godlike :)
Grandia: I wanna be an adventurer!
Grandia II: I wanna bang that priest!
Grandia III: I wanna fly in the sky!
Grandia Xtreme: WHY IS EVERYTHING ON FIRE/CRUMBLING/DROWNING/BEING BLOWN AWAY!?
@@XainArchives sounds like i need to play the next 3 games
I love the music. No matter what there's always a good time for some grandia jams.
I first played Grandia on my ps vita a few years back, and it has one of my favorite battle systems of any rpg I've played
yea i absolutely love the weapon exp and magic exp system with how you unlock skills. i really really want a modern day game with that system
@@Primalliquid92 It's not 100% the same, but there's the third and fourth games in the "Penny Arcade Adventures" series, by the guys who made "Cthulhu Saves The World". Basically, you have the same timeline-based battle system, able to knock enemies out of their attacks with correct timing. The fourth game uses a pseudo-Pokemon system where you collect monsters and pick which ones you want to bring into battle, with unique characters like "Vendorr" the living Vending Machine, with the ability to create and use items from MP. The biggest difference between it and Grandia as far as battles go is that the battles are side-view like old-school Final Fantasy rather than isometric with characters running around, although like I said before, it does use the timeline battle system. It also takes a cue from "Cthulhu Saves The World" and enemies gain 10% to all of their stats every single turn, making battle strategy a priority.
The big catch is, the game is actually rather story-heavy despite being Penny Arcade, where you'd think it would be nothing but comedy. (Although the comedy is there, and hilarious, especially if you're already a PA fan.) You definitely want to play the first two games to get the full story, and those look and play absolutely nothing like the latter half of the series, being more similar to something like Paper Mario or the Mario & Luigi series in how big the focus is on Action Commands, and with a big jump in difficulty over the two series. The reason behind this is that the series got cancelled after some issues with the original developers after the first two games. There didn't seem to be any way to finish the series, so the PA guys decided that their best bet would be to finish the story as a novel or something, until eventually a different developer (the "Cthulhu Saves The World" team) offered to do the remaining games, and do them the way they do best.
Speaking of which, it might be interesting to see if you can pull off an overpowered video on the "Penny Arcade Adventures" games. There's a predetermined number of battles that generally don't respawn, so you have to get really creative in how you power-level since you can't just grind on endless enemies.
Y'know, this and Final Fantasy IX have really opened my eyes to how important text fonts were to RPGs. The RPGmaker font just kills some of the charm for me
Can't agree more! Since you are expected to read a lot in these games, it's very important, that the font is easy to read and pleasant to look at.
Part of me want's to defend it, but I will outright not play games if they remind me of RPGMaker nowadays. So I totally get you.
i suffer every time i play a pc-rpg made in an era when the norm was to be sitting a foot away from your screen.
@@UnheardPope late but this is why I could never really get into it and Grandia 2 was the first one I played. I bit the bullet on ffix though lol
@@DevDreCW RPGMaker has a ton of great rpgs tho, three the hard way is still in my top 3 rpgs and it was created by a single person. 80+ hours of content, the story was incredible and intriguing, kept you asking for more, the branching storyline paths and the freedom to hunt down whichever kaibutsu lord you want(but this part ends once you kill 3 or the leader so you have to replay multiple times to learn everything), the sidequests, even the main character, who isnt the average rpg protagonist but a greedy bastard in it solely for the money. The ending was spectacular as well, ended on a cliffhanger which left you asking soooooooo many questions. Sadly the sequel was put on hiatus.
Everlong is another great one, feels and plays like a final fantasy game, lives up to its name because its really really long.
Grandia and Grandia 2 are like my favorite RPGs of all time. Before the video even started I knew this would be an insane challenge, I don’t think I’ve ever gotten past like level 40! Amazing video!
Love your content! I’d love to see an overpowered video on octopath traveler!
I have played Grandia 3 and Grandia extreme, but they just did not resonate with me like the first two, lol.
I would also love to see a video on Octopath Traveler. 😮😍
Grandia is one of my favorite game!!
Happy your doing this.
Im roleplaying as Justin for a dnd game.
that 600 hours playtime is insane bro haha
so much dedication
I was actually excited to see this pop up on my related videos, Grandia is my favourite RPG of all time… though I confess a lot of that probably has to do with nostalgia.
Still, this was a blast, thanks so much for giving this under appreciated gem this treatment!
i couldnt do this... i literally rolled my eyes in a "is that all" when you said you had justins water alrdy done and just had to do the other 3
the boss at 30:30 understands whats going on so much he is just blocking and hiding his single eye.
the game of my childhood. beat it loads. rarely got above lvl 40. the weapons and magic lvl are what really matter tbh. great vid
"But none so fast an easy..." "8 hours per character"
This man is a lunatic lol
I played it on the psone as a teenager and absolutely loved it. Few games managed to create that sheer sense of adventure! Maybe I’ll replay it someday...
Now this is an interesting experience.
Back when I got this game I never knew how popular it was in other places, cuz back then Internet wasn't really what it is today and you basically just had your local bubble of people to talk about games. Seeing that this game is still so popular, is actually incredible. Glad to see that this gem wasn't forgotten over the years. It's one of the cutest and best written RPG's on the PlayStation 1. It really captures this oldschool kind of adventuring and discovering new things in foreign lands, kinda like the old Indiana Jones movies. Really great game.
And to see people cheese the heck out of it these days...absolutely hilarious and wholesome at the same time. Good stuff. :)
I started doing the dom ruins grind with Sue. Using the video as a guide, then I finally caved and watched it the whole way through...
The story, is absolutely timeless, inspiring, very touching at times, all around so good. Possibly the best alongside og ff7 and Chrono Trigger
I recently got this game on my PS3 and been contemplating starting a game since I'm already playing multiple games atm. Definitely gonna try this. Only Grandia game I've ever played b4 is Grandia Extreme.
Fantastic RPG from times past.
Best part is without doubt the Sandy Beach of Gumbo scenes and shortly after the crossing of the sea segments!
Grandia is my all time favourite game ever! I am so glad to see you playing it! I used to love the leveling system as well, I used to love grinding out the water level's for ages as soon as you could with the overworld damage trick!
LMAO that 1 hit on Gadwin, I remember that was so hard the first time round.
you can cut the water leveling by 50%, you dont need to get down to 1hp, just cast after getting hit once, you get 3xp it does not matter how much you lost per cast. and use lvl 3 magic heal later for more cast before returning.
Gone are they days where endless grinding rewarded you with the ultimate badass feeling of invincibility. Chaos Legion is an old favourite.
I loved Grandia in my childhood so much and I still love it. So much nostalgia while watching this video😊 good job!
600 hours. Sweet merciful Zeus. I have WoW toons with that kind of time logged, sure, but I've been playing that since '04. You, sir, are a maniac, and I mean that in the best possible way. Mad respect.
one of my favorite RPGs, loved the soundtrack.
I loved this game when I played it on PS1 a long time ago. I really liked the way you can combine weapon skills and magic knowledge to unlock special skills and spells, the multi-part monsters, and the turn-order system with the visible bar, the combo and stun system... there was so much there that I liked. The story and characters were also really memorable and delightful, it was just a lot of fun to play through the whole thing.
I'm finishing my 2nd play through of Star Ocean 2, and then I'm hopping on Grandia. Haven't played in decades!
Thanks for doing what you're doing, Primal.
My pleasure!
I started a new playthrough of this on the Switch version recently, before I knew you had this video, and I knew the dom ruins trap method of levelling water was a thing. But god damn man I don't know how you did it, I moved on after getting around level 10 water magic on each character... It's just too mind numbing and time consuming. Much respect for being that dedicated to the grind!
yea if you REALLY want level 99 water there, its a good idea to just have a master save there where you already have it xD that way you only need to do the grind once
Hate the fact that there is not much more love on this series. I played this on PS One. And like you said, this is one of the most enjoyable grinds ever.
I was yelling at the screen when you were giving sue all that magic, it's such a waste! But massive grats. Thoroughly enjoyed this.
its not a waste if you use it to abuse Fight Cheer when doing an over the top playthrough lol even then though its the best way to level fire and earth magic if you want to use the boosts on leite later on, her fire is tedious to level afterall.
Well you do get her "Skillbooks/Scrolls" so its not wasted as-is to be fair
What you say is true, however I usually only get one magic on her and focus getting justin/feena all magic asap. However I am very tempted to try this power grind on sue for fire and earth. Seems strong.
I used to do the water thing, in the poison pools; I would intentionally stand in the poison pools and then heal them in menu.
My water was always under levelled and is being it up to par with the attacking elements and weapons.
I have played this game so many times and I find myself coming back too it and the battle system is just perfect
Holy shit, an OG Grandia video in 2020. Life might be worth it after all.
23:13 I love that band
incredible video. it stressed me out so much watching you give sue all that power lol
Ima subcribe, leave a comment and like the video because of the effort you did on grinding. Just wow
One of my most favourite RPG's of all time to beat the game all i did was get Justin to master wind + fire magic to unlock lighting and boom nothing survives.
Awesome, thank you for doing my childhood favourite game!
Played and completed it rather recently on the Switch, great JRPG and without spoiling much, ill just mention that I really liked the battle system mechanic of delaying or outright denying an enemy's turn which helped boss fights feel more fresh with having to target different parts, as each lined up attacks on their own.
In the World of Grandia they are afraid of Gaia meanwhile a group of friends entered god mode and just bulldoze everything in their path
I love old jrpg's. These unique leveling systems are always so much fun to deconstruct. Great video!
Couldn't agree more!
Never played this game but it’s definitely on my radar now
Not sure if I ever finished this game ...
Keep up the great work :)
first time ever hearing about the game, seems lik it'd be right up my alley, thank you.
This and FF9 are two of my favorite games. I spent the time to grind all elements to 99 in multiple playthroughs on feena. Also Legend of Legaia. all amazing games. Sadly there aren't any games that bring me that kind of wonder and amazement these days.
I love the legaia series games. They need to make a new one.
Your patience is LEGENDARY
I played this game twice on the ps1 and I'm playing it currently on the Switch - physical copy.
Never got to play grandia but I’ve played grandia 2 and loved it
Loved Grandia II, great video!
ahh grandia... one of the best ever, got it on steam as soon as it was released. and the battle system is what i love about it. also was the first game i got with voiceover wich was mindblowing to me when i was a kid XD
This game's a true masterpiece. I've played the regular game on PS1, PC and even Vita, and beat the Grandia ReDux remake/mod. My fave game of ALL TIME, right up there with DQ8. VERY worth playing.
My favorite moment have to be when they are climbing onto the ghost ship, and the second email tag and it stops in a dark crawlspace and Justin runs into the backside of her.
You're absolutely crazy man. Cheers on your hard work!
lol i remember this game, i was 14 years old wen i played this game and the first thing i notice are the exploit in the trap, grind water level up to 99, but then i got bored, and i don't know how to level up the other skill so i quit playing the game
Your dedication in these videos is amazing. This and your other Overpowered videos are extremely entertaining to watch!
Good show! You've inspired me to pick up Grandia on steam. I've been after something to do in these trying times. Keep up the good work!
its highly worth it, enjoy
Great Video. greetz from germany. Loved Grandia on ps1.
Grandia xtreme was definitely one of my fav games for the ps2
Loved that game growing up, thanks for the nostalgia
Played this game too many times to count. Battle system is one of my favorite parts about this
Awesome video! Loved Grandia since i've been a child. Have you looked into the Redux version of this game? Recently played it and im in love. Overhauls the enemys and bosses and the magic. Makes it significantly harder while still staying true to the game
I played the game 20 years ago on PS1. I replayed it recently on the Switch. I had a pulsating vein on my neck looking at you spending all those mana eggs on Sue. It reminded me my first playtheough :D
On the Switch I just gave her water magic and gave everything else to Justin and Feena to kickstart the grind early. I ended up unlocking all skills, magic and completing all optional dungeons in about 60 hours. IMHO grinding all magic to 99 is not worth it (especially now that Feena and Liete magics are not tied to a level 99 unlock). You are already OP by the time you just unlock everything and most magic will be in the 20 to 30 level range. I farmed most of the water magic later than you in the Abandoned Laine Village. You have 3 of the 4 final party members there and 4 persons in your party. So I guess it was more efficient.
Nice video though. Thanks for doing it so we don't have to ;)
Here is an amusing thing, there are more than enough mana eggs in the game, to have the end game party with all 4 magic types as well as sue having all magic types, with a couple of eggs left over :)
Love this series dude :)
the point with the traps just after the save point is great for grinding water magic
Grandia was the first JRPG I ever played on the PS1. I spent hundreds of hours on this game and I didn't even play it right. I would die to bosses over and over for being underpowered as I would only fight the enemies on route without grinding. I actually got to the last boss before I finally figured out that you can "grind". I thought I was the first to discover the technique LOL
"A giant cocoon with horns that tries to eat all the pretty women" has to be the handsdown best description for Gaia I've ever heard xD
Still stuck in buffering mode, but I got at least far enough to say that, heck YEAH, I've played this game! A couple times on the Playstation and once PS Vita. (I was gonna play the so called HD remaster on steam, but I can't get past the intro because it keeps crashing.) Imported both Grandia Digital Museum for the Sega Saturn, Parallel Trippers for the GBC and all three Novels for this game too. Grandia is one of my favourite games of all time, easily. I love it and I ran one of the biggest german online communities around it for 5 years roughly a decade ago. More people need to play this and I'm always happy to find someone who loves this game! :D
Can't wait to watch the rest of the acutal video once RUclips finally stops buffering every two seconds XD'
funny thing is though, the description isnt exactly wrong either xD
@@Primalliquid92 That what makes it the best one! XD
Is the digital museum worth checking out? I've considered buying it a couple of times.
@@DevDreCW If you can read japanese and love Grandia absolutely. If you can't but still love Grandia, like me, it's harder to say. Personally I enjoyed what it had to offer a lot. Certainly more than Parallel Trippers in any case, haha.
I have heard about this game so many times but never played it. I think your video might be the one that makes me get it this time. This game looks fun.
highly suggest it, its an amazing experience
Grandia is still my favorite game to this day. Would be interesting to see in an HD remake along the lines like Trials of Mana. That was well done.
Nice!
I just found your channel!
I love doing this kinda thing and will probably binge the rest of this series!
Guys there is a new content release for PC named as Grandia HD Collection, its a good game pack
Honestly, I don't know how you have the patience to grind that much before Typhoon Tower
great job primal! Ive, never played, but i've always been so interested in the game. I played other grandia games and love Elena the most of the games ive played
I got uneasy every time he called "Diggin'" "DIGGING"
I love the idea of handing Rapp two fire scrolls (Sue’s and Gadwin’s) and his head just spontaneously explode as he goes to LEVEL 66 instantly
dont use fire on RAPP it ruins one of his best weapon leveling abilities, use the scrolls on liete imo, or Rap AFTER you level his weapons (and lower levels are easier to get than higher levels so deffo get the early levels manually before using the scrolls
@@Primalliquid92 I’ll consider myself duly warned for such an event
You are my hero! Love it when one of these come out
Omg! I love Grandia, and that's insane) i wouldn't be able to do one third of this, but i wish i figured out the trick with healing! Amazing video))
Thank you for this video, i love this game so much i've beaten it a few times it's so great and had no idea how to power level my characters like you did
(the dom ruins bit i have done, but not to THAT level)
Imagine a Grandia game that is similar to the Disgaea series, the carnage versions of the bosses and all the characters recruitable from the last few Grandia games including the battle system, then all this intense grinding wouldn't be for nothing.
The amount of time he spent to reach god like powers that early in the game is mental.
Altho im a little late on this one kudos to you sir, this gave me great memories when I played the game myself on PS1, now excuse me, I'm off to get the HD collection. :D
enjoy it dude, it seems they have patched alot of the bugs for it
Honestly yeah, and even some of the games moves, especially for Feena, require having 99 in more than 1 stat, which is just so pointless considering nothing in the game can even stop you well before you get there.
I’ve played it….magnificent.
I love the series, have you done anything with Dragon Warrior, Dragon Quest?
Thank you for this ! I loved to play the game on my ps1. At the end of the game I grinded my levels to around 61 because I lost one of the boss fights again and again. 42 wasn’t strong enough. After that it was easy with levels around 61 😅
On PS1 I had a save at the end of disc 1 for 180 hours and 300 hours right before the final boss. I wasn't concerned with efficiency. I was just killing time by grinding in every area until xp hit 1.
Never give anything to sue, ever.
One of my favourite games of all time
this game is so linear, but so also so fulfilling. I love the story and the battle system. Grandia actually the first RPG game i have ever played. It hooks me up to the RPG genre.
the only issue i have with grandia 1 is the dungeons. they are way to big and mazy.
I'm definitely planning to pick up the grandia collection on switch soon, but hoping for a sale since i've got other games i'm playing anyways. I've never played the series and been wanting to check it out for some time. However I could never spend 652 hours on it lol!
Might need to check this game out. Thanks.
Oddly enough I just got recommended this video.. 4 years late.
My dude, I always appreciate your videos to the point of where I will not skip ads. Enjoy that revenue!! 🤣
I appreciate that
I really enjoy these! Keep up the good work!
