  • In this episode we’ll be getting our fantasy engineering degrees in the subject matter of building our very own magical rock’em sock’em robots. We are delving into the realm of robotics without the hassle of actually having to program software. These arcane architects that enjoy breathing life into their artificial handiwork are known as the Battle Smiths, a subclass of the Artificer.

    I also just wanted to say how happy I am that people enjoy the videos I make on this channel and have been kind enough to subscribe and leave supportive comments as well as feedback on how to improve. Thanks everybody for sticking with me despite my erratic video schedules and I wish everyone the best of luck for 2023 and a Happy New Year!

    actually mass healing word isnt the only AOE healing the battle smith gets, all artificers can have aid, the max hit point increase is also a healing, oh and thanks for the video.

      Oh you're right, although I was thinking more in terms of subclass spells, but I'm glad you enjoyed the video regardless.

    Quick note: Fire Shield doesn’t actually take concentration. The similar warlock spell Shadow of Moil does, but that spell also makes the user heavily obscured to all other creatures so that’s a huge benefit that Fire Shield doesn’t have.

      Ah you're correct, I got mixed up looking at the duration of Aura of Purity and wrongly said "both spells". Nice catch, thanks for the correction!

    Honestly, I went ranged with my battle smith. The repeating shot infusion is just too good to pass up. With the artificer ability to use infused items as arcane foci, the battle smith is basically an arcane archer with unlimited magical arrows. Even your arcane jolts can be used in range with no limit for extra damage. (Only the healing has a 30 ft limit) And because both your weapon and your spells key off Int, you have the same chance to hit with both. In essence, firebolt and ray of frost become "spell arrows" since they are being cast with the bow. So what does the steel defender do all combat then? Not much. I use my steel defender to carry things, assist with my work, and use Arcane Jolt to remote heal if necessary or bring a potion, drag a comrade, etc. He's not a bodyguard or a pet, he's a tool.

    A gnome riding his steel defender like a mini metal gear sounds fun & goofy as hell

    Hey random question, are humoncules servents and steel defenders one in the same? (As in like steel defenders just being upgraded versions of humoncules servent,) or are they separate? Or does it all just depend on the dm,s interpretation?

    • @Greyscales
      @Greyscales  Год назад +2

      The Steel Defender is a subclass feature and the Homunculus Servant is an infusion, so they are separate things if you are asking about mechanics. I suppose if you are asking about lore then that is up to the player or DM, they are both construct creatures.

    Do you have any recommendation for feats as a Battle smith?

    • @Greyscales
      @Greyscales  Год назад +1

      Well it entirely depends on what you want out of your Battle Smith and your playstyle, but generally speaking some decent feats for a Battle Smith would be something like War Caster, which will help you maintain your Concentration. A feat like Lucky is also pretty good regardless of class or if you want something fancier, you can try Metamagic Adept to gain access to Sorcerer Metamagic options.

      Pick feats that you think are fun

      Something really fun you can do if you dm is cool.
      I have a dwarven artificer who invented a magic firearm! Basically it's a unique weapon that uses the stats of a pistol, he ruled it that it only works if I had it infused with repeating shot. Couple that with the sharpshooter feat and your intelligence buffs and you have a crazy strong primary weapon!
