I have signed up to ubank thanks to your advice. But could you please emphasise that the money has to be in SAVE ACCOUNT (NOT SPEND or BILL ACCOUNTS), to earn bonus interest of the money in SAVE ACCOUNT only. I had money parked at spend account for 2 months, ZERO interest earned as a result despite full filling the deposit requirement. I feels like I was tricked
Had to close my Ubank account as I'm putting all my savings in my offset account instead, might put it all back in Ubank if the interest rates drop below 5%
There are plenty of other banks out there that don't make you deposit $500 monthly in order to get the bonus rate. For me I want an interest savings account that works more like a term deposit; you put your money in at the opening of the account and that's it. I don't need the hustle of putting a monthly $500 in all the times
Fair enough. If you want a high interest savings that does not require hoops then Ubank isn’t for you. However, only having to transfer $500 to get the bonus to get 5.5% is a very easy task compared to all the other deals out there. There are some accounts that have way more requirements for less interest. Also, 5.5% is a significantly higher rate than any other ‘no requirement’ accounts out there.
Keep in mind, if you're a perm resident but don't have a driver's licence or AUSTRALIAN passport, you can't sign up. There's no workaround on their end if you call either. I think they might change this as they're missing out on a lot of customers with such value ID requirements 🤷🏼♀️
Thanks for the vid! Recently found your channel and been binging the videos, all so good so far! Could you please do a video on top Transaction Accounts in Aus? :)
Hello mate might be a dumb question but if i receive my salary to ubank account and i spend it it immidiatly after receiving (paying bills) will this count for that bonus every month?
Not a dumb question at all. Yes it will count as long as your salary is $500 or more per month. It just needs to come in to trigger the bonus. After that, you can even transfer it out immediately.
@ so meaning as long as it goes to savings and i spend it after receiving it still will count it and bonus will be added next month yea? Meaning no money have to be left in my saving account. Thanks 🙏
I've followed some of your tips with good success. Can you do a review on Betashare direct vs other providers? I'm also very interested in their EFT vs Vanguards
Love your videos. I am an ING banker but looking at Ubank because of less hoops to jump through to get the interest. It's just that it's a pain to change banks!
I was torn between Ubank and Macquarie. I have both, but I use Macquarie. The "no bonus conditions" 5% interest rate (5.5 introductory) plus 2.75% on the transaction account (as opposed to 0.01 or 0% everywhere else) makes it the winner for me.
I thought about opening a Macquarie savings account too but then I found out that the 5.5% rate is only an introductory rate, the rate will go back to 5% after the 4 months period.
I'm usually not a fan of big 4 banks for high interest savings accounts but this one isn't too bad considering how stingy they usually are. However, having to deposit money in there every month + grow your balance is too big of a task when there are other accounts that give more for less. Perhaps I'm just a HISA snob, hahaha.
So you must use the Spend account to earn the bonus rate? Does that mean you must have some funds in the Spend account at all times or can it be $0.00?
If your main purpose is just to park money and earn the bonus interest then you don’t have touch the spend account at all. Just transfer $500 into your save account once a month. However, I auto transfer $500 into the spend account every month so that I can auto transfer it back out the next day. You cannot withdraw money directly from your save account to an external bank, you can only withdraw from your spend account. However, if you’re happy to just leave $500 into your save account every month then you don’t have to touch the spend account at all.
@@BryanInvest OK thanks mate. I gather you have 'x' amount in your save account but don't necessarily add to it. You just add the $500.00 into your Spend account to generate the bonus interest?
Great video mate! I'm considering switching away from CBA ( I only use this account to receive my salary and automatic transfers) and ubank could be a good option. Hi Bryan, Can you tell me please, is there a way to set up recurring payments in the app. I want to transfer $ from my bills account to another bank (using BSB & ACC #'s), every week, but don't want to have to reember to do it every week 😂
Yes! You can set up auto bank transfer in and out of your Spend account. For example, I created an auto transfer from another bank to transfer $500 into my Ubank spend on the 1st of every month and then back out from Ubank to my other bank. This automatically unlocks the bonus interest. You can set it up for bills too.
