Manhatten Transfer youllbe missed one of best groups ever!!!!!!!!
Some people kid me for liking this group (we live on a ranch where country music rules), but they are awesome! Always have been a favorite of mine and always will be.
I had to sing this in primary school for an assembley lol.
Love this song but these old videos REALLY make me thankful that shoulder pads went the way of the dinosaur!!!
On this day in 1981 {August 22nd} the Manhattan Transfer performed "The Boy From New York City" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand
Three months earlier on May 23rd it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #7 and spent 21 weeks on the Top 100
It reached #8 on the Canadian RPM Top Singles chart
Was originally recorded by the Ad-Libs in 1965; their version peaked at #8 on the Hot Top 100 chart
In the UK in 1978 the Darts' version peaked at #2...
RIP Mr. Clark
27 years later; today Janis can still bring it...
Janis is awesome.
RIP Tim Hauser. I loved your music. You will be missed.

You are so right about the lead; she is Janis Siegel and she rocks. Pipes is right. Janis has extensively recorded and is in great demand. Check out the other videos available for her.

Hell Yeah!

R.I.P. Tim Hauser.
The Manhattan Transfer really can sing, and this was demonstrated in the song "The Boy From New York City" this song is a classic.
bduncombe
In case you're wondering, this is at a concert in JAPAN. Manhattan Transfer... "Big in Japan"
He says: "Tatte Kudasai" which means... "Please Stand"
Also, conservative crowd free from hollerers (that would show disrespect) is a dead giveaway.
I have to sing this sing for a concert in choir
bravoooo
Love them.I see they do Chanson D'amour. That's cool-I have a video of Art & Dotty Todd on Dick Clarks Sat Night Beechnut Show.Love the fact that they do Lonely Way-my fav Skyliners tune.
Espectacular y como suenan en vivo, es un infierno!!!
Can't get enough!!!
Classic
Haha. My show choir is learning this. This will be so fun to sing! Haha. And my Show Choir teacher said we need a cute guy to walk across stage. After this, we do Firework. :p
Manhatten Transfer were awsome in Vancouver BC last year!
this version and the ad libs version kicks butt....
The Manhattan Transfer are one of the many things that make proud to be a "Native New Yorker" Ted Cruz could not possibly understand this!

Need to learn the solo parts for this song...!!!!!!!! I need to try out and actually get a part for school
They played Reno Sweeney's in The Village. Their harmonies were unreal.
80s genius, still want to find a partner every time i hear it
heard this for the first time on the radio the other day....totally thought this was a 60s Motown group. haha!
I have seen them many times! Where are the actual videos???? I used to be a big fan, like most people wanna hear the ole stuff and see the ole stuff!
one song me and bf can always rock out together
they are rockin' da house. probably only a couple of dozen of the audience know the words, or understand the words, but duzzint matter. dey be rockin' da peeps:)
Gosto!
im learning this song in chior
WHOOO MERCY DADDY
It’s the Boogie Woogie Man Jimmy Valiant’s song! “Paul Jones, you will be a Bald-Headed Geek!”
cool cool kitty... ;)
I just saw them tonite at the Columbia Festival of the Arts and they are as great as ever. But, they did not do The Boy from New York City or Operator.
I wish I could hear you. Good luck to you!
Oh, they have incredible voices, no question. But they`ve had better days. Although when I was in 8th grade, about when this song came out, I was fuzzy on who exactlty "Boo boo kitty"??? was.
well well, the manhattan squad really got the crowd up and grovving"
Wow, who knew you could get mens shoes that color before the invention of crocs.
I just like if for being the theme song of wrestler "The Boogy Woogy Man" Jimmy Valiant.
In which Janis Siegel tears the roof off the auditorium. Would ove to know where she gets her energy... Have viewed many of the MT videos on RUclips, and am concluding that this Japanese concert may have captured them at the peak of their powers. Exceptions being Offbeat of Aveneus and the powerful 'So You Say' from their Brasil album, wherein Cheryl Bentyne gets to show her dramatic range and power.
que haríamos sin ellos
muy buna rola
I have the second verse solo for this!!!
i like both versions (haven't heard the Darts'), but especially love The Ad Libs'. Honestly, they aren't that different, but that being said, I don't understand the critical hoopla over the Manhattan Transfer. It's really like they got a lot of credit for rediscovering a great song ignored in its day.
Fun performance here though.
nutpret--To see another side of Tim hauser, go give the video of "Killer Joe" elsewhere on youtube a listen. Tim is more than a legacy.
I'm doing this is choir :) I'm a Soprano.
