That lady had serious gospel singing chops. Just perfect.
No. Doubt. Janis S is electrifying.
Yes she does.
Gloria Huddle agrees. ❤😂
2😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Forget sometimes how fabulous these guys were.
Wow! This is even BETTER than the version on the albums!
Feeling down well embrace these words ,, 2024 still my favorite
This is a blessed blast from the past! I loved it then in my twenties and I appreciate it even more now, in 2023!
He put it there to remind us of his greatness and love for us.
Its amazing how a song will stick with you. Its been about 40 years and I remembered most of it right off.
I was 15yo when I first heard this group love all there music
Absolute passion for the music. I am a headbanger, Janis Seagel is one of my favourite singers!!!
Mine too.
Metal head that grew up on this version of the song
My mom would dance me around as a baby to this song. Still Jam out to it
in 1980 I was an Operator. Love Manhattan Transfer.
Amazing 44 years ago.... I loved it and now I am old.... What pros!
R.I.P. Tim Hauser, founder and singer of The Manhattan Transfer. ROCK ON!!!!!!!
I grew up in a very religious family. This was the only group and only song we were allowed to play when I was a kid. And I loved it. And we snuck in other songs from The Manhattan Transfer when my folks were out. R.I.P. Tim Hauser. Thanks for the music and The Manhattan Transfer!
I still and always will believe in spirituality and that was God's purpose for these singers to entertain us because God is Love!
All harmony and joyful singing
Absolutely stunning in every respect.
What a voice
Man ..yes so many found memories of this group, they really resonated with the black jazz enthusiast at the time, they transcended cultures and taste ,w/nostalgia and class there han'st been a group in recent memory that has done so, Well music taste have been dumb way down l feel is the reason.
I had the vinyl as a kid in the 90s and the cover was their silhouettes. Thought they were black until like a year ago.
This was their Best one of this wonderful song!
Always visually extravagant, always professional, always put everything they have into a performance and that is why they are consistently wonderful.
They make it look so easy. I am singing this this Sunday, and brother, it definitely AIN'T!! Incredible talent!
I still have my t-shirt from this tour! I believe it was at SDSU's open air auditorium. So much fun and so amazingly perfect songs and band.
I'm envious. Good on you. I once had a crew only tee given to me from drummer Steve Hass. You couldn't meet a nicer person. Somehow I lost it? Only a lunatic like me could lose a t-shirt. That and a ginormous poster!!! Is this concert the same as where in other parts they are all wearing red? Cheers.

Growing up with Latin Rock and R&B in the late 70’s, I thought I was an anomaly liking the MT. In 1980, I took my girl back then to an SF gig only to show up to a sold out event with a huge crowd wondering what happened. I realized then that the MT was the band for many.
I saw them in 1979 in KC with my girlfriend at the time.what a show. Thanks guys 😀
Love the way they do this song !!
After being stuck in lockdown too long, thank goodness we're at level 2 now. Love this song 😁😁❤❤
RIP, Tim....one of my favorite songs by YOUR group. May the Manhattan Transfer Live On!
wish I could have the chance to see them live.
Ya, fantastic. Saw them in about ‘86 in Sacramento. Brilliant, tight harmonies, energy.
Saw them right around this time (1980) at The Warfield in San Francisco. Great show!
Tim.....I know you are up there seeing everything from all sides. Thanks for everything man....what a fabulous group.
R.I.P. Tim Hauser great clip many thanks for posting
They are great
This was the first MT song I ever heard, and it wasn't even from them. A friend sang it to me, I looked them up, the rest was history. Not a bad song, ever. The sad part is I never saw them in concert, not once. :(
That not everyone in America knew who the MT were, is, IMHO, one of the GREAT TRAGEDIES OF THE 20TH CENTURY!!
This is awesome. Thank you for uploading this. ROCK ON!!!!
AGREE! Thank for comment!
When I first heard this song I was 18 years old back in 1975 and heard it on my radio in my car
I remember one person said that it was a mennonite song
One of those crazy fav's...a privy remembrance...😊
det bästa nygamla soundet, usa släppte ut under 80-talet!
Svänger lika gott om dem än. Ikoniskt skön musik! Thank you for uploading them :)
Terrific!
I saw them three times...so sad that that's all gone now...
Janis is still the sexiest thing on stage. Amazing!
Still to this day
And Laurel too
Amazing to hear Jesus sang by a wonderful music group.. I’m glad I’m a citizen of Heaven with Jesus for ever an ever 🥰
Thank God that He alone knows the heart and uses many of his children to sing a message regardless of feeble humanity's labels on them.
Amen and hallelujah to that! Absolutely love this song! I hadn’t heard it in the longest time and i started to sing it in the shower. I had to hit play when I got out.
I'm an atheist, and I didnt know I should use this fine music to voice my views. Doesn't God already know your heart? Who are you trying to convince?
Isnt it called Operator? Not Jesus!
Are you nuts ?
Manhattan Transfer hat meine Jugend bekleidet so bin ich erwachsen geworden das war die beste gesangsband ich habe noch ihre 1LP so viele Jahre in den 60er
Perfecto"!!
Janis Siegel, amazing.
I love this song - and I'm Jewish.
So is she!
Isn’t it amazing - Janice as my childhood crush......funny I should end up marrying a beautiful lady who resembles her and sings just like her......to me that was destiny.....
@Paul ... Damn lucky guy!! Live long and prosper! ☺☺
Really! Great, man!
Mine was Cheryl.
кто бы спорить стал!? а я не буду! концовка супер и вся вещь просто отпад полный!
Libby .... come over here Libby!
A glam night!!!
God Speed Timothy

Не к месту будет сказано, но мне очень нравится, во что одета певица. Броский прикид, экстра.
there is no way I would ever let you sink like the titanic..... impossible, ain't happening, never ever, ever ever... you are AMAZING don't you forget it.. I am happy in my dreams 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩... and sinking ain't a option.... 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
My music teacher used to make us listen to them in the 80’s. I’m not saying I had anything to do with it, but let’s just say all his MT albums are buried along with him.
💖💝
hello
hello
methinks me play sax this 1!
If I'm not mistaken, this is off a PBS Sound Stage broadcast of an MT performance recorded sometimes in the late 1970s at the Park West Club in Chicago. That would put Janis Siegel sometime in her mid- to late 20s. She really was gorgeous and she could really belt out a song - although you have to wonder about a nice Jewish girl singing a gospel song about getting Jesus on the line.
I mean, in fairness, Jesus was a nice Jewish boy, so.
Absolutely correct. Here is a link to the show I found:

Does not matter. Get above the religious conformity road. The message is for ALL whether in a pop/rock concert, roadside tent revival, or huge cathedral.
Just enjoy and be glad in it.
Jews for Jesus. :)
Who's singing lead on this, Janis or Cheryl?
Janis Siegel.
ayo tunjuk tanggan yang masuk cenel ini gara2 komen dhani dewa 19
Great song brought to the world by the Friendly Brothers. And sung wonderfully by Sister Wynonna Carr in 1954.
I'm a little disappointed with this video, though. I thought they'd be smartly dressed; that was the impression I got from the album cover on "The Manhattan Transfer". LOL!
Actually maybe you can help me. Have you noticed the video covers for Vocalese and another simply called The Manhattan Transfer Live have identical song listings and both were recorded in Japan. Are they the same concert?
Similarly with the concert this footage is from was in 1980 and again there are two different vhs covers and one says live in Chicago and the other has them dressed wearing these clothes as in this video. No one has ever been able to tell me the answer to these two questions.
Thanks for reading my waffle.
@collageartist - Don't know if it helps, but to the best of my knowledge the costumes they wear in this were done for the tour of their "Twilight Zone" album, so this would have been them singing "Operator," as a fan favorite they do at some point in most concerts but during the lengthy tour for that album.

(Sorry I managed to get two copies of this going.)
who was the Cuban girl in this group? Estefan?
No it's Janis Siegel
She's not a Cuban
give me....informaSHUUUUUUUUUN.......
Girlfriend can sang!
why is she wearing a star trek uniform?
They had earlier done a scifi themed song.
tell me why, indeed @1:23
Look closer. she's pulling the mic cord that's trailing between her legs
For a band that have no Christian faith apparently, some of their gospel songs seriously contend with some of the other great gospel artists!
So WHO is fit to judge. God alone knows the heart. He uses a lot of different vessels. He used Jerry Garcia to convey song "Gone Home" and "Drifting too far From The Shore" in his accoustic band. Look it up.
@@sandburgmartin7947 No one seems to be judging them, quite the opposite.
I only see compliments for Manhattan Transfer.
It looks as if the vocals are mimed.
Nope. They were just that precise, well rehearsed, and darned talented.
lol they’re clearly singing
Not bad for a white girl!
Correct she got some chops
The lead singer, Janis Siegel, is Jewish. I highly doubt she--or her mother--ever placed any calls to Jesus...
Jewish people can go to JESUS.
For the first 10 years of the church, it was pretty much all Jews getting Jesus on the line....
Gosh, is that important when you are enjoying great music? How about Barbra Streisand’s two Christmas albums if you’re going to be a nitpicker...
Ludicrous. Today's world is full of white supremacist, Anti-Semite, hate filled "Christian" Nationalists who are not smart enough to know JESUS IS A JEW. It's right there in their upsidedown Trump Bibles in the begats. Jew haters cannot be Christians !
Nice to hear Jews singing about Jesus.
Jesus IS a Jew. If you believe in the living Savior...He is before He was.
Someone could have told her she had loads of lipstick on her teeth lol
Great singing but her lipstick was all over her teeth
Janis Siegel kicks so much ass.
❤️
