Couple’s Roof Accidentally Replaced While They’re Gone

- A $30,000 mistake by a roofing company was a blessing for an Edmond, Oklahoma, couple. Deborah and Scott Senner were out of town and received a call from Graco Roofing & Constructions LLC, saying they’d accidentally taken their roof off instead of their neighbors. To apologize, the company replaced the entire roof for free. The pair shared the funny story with Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall.
That's a great company. They even gave them a warranty.
looks like they tough it out and consider her a real customer. rare attitude these days
it was free also .. 😂😂
alot of companys would of tried to recoup there loss on them regardless of there mistake so its awesome the company took the high road and deserve the praise.
Yes, and... if anyone ever needed proof that the markup on roofing is plenty excessive, here it is.
$30k for a roof. ? It's like $5,000 max in materials to do a 2,000 sq ft roof with Asphalt shingles. Figure 4 guys two days, maybe 4, paid handsomely with overhead, another $10k, as a huge over estimate, and they're still walking away crazy ahead.
@@AlexR_44That was a McMansion. Lots more than 2000 square feet.
Round of applause for that business owner, THATS how you handle a mistake
You must really like inside edition.
The proof was there they knew if push come to shove they would lose in court with even further damages and more cost. This was the only and correct way to respond.
Yeah lol there was no other way they could have handled this@@randar1969
@@randar1969 Just because they’re busted doesn’t mean people always do the right thing.
more like an insurance claim...
Kudos to Graco Roofing for stepping up, admitting their mistake, and then FIXING it. They sound like a real decent company.
Usually the address on the city permit is correct. Unless they illegally didn't obtain one.
@@benjohnson7950 Most places don't require a city permit for roofing.
They will end up with more business for their integrity in the long run than the money they lost fixing their mistake.
That's how u turn a mistake into good PR
That’s 95% of family owned companies in the United States lol (it’s the corporate owned companies you gotta be careful with)
That's a company that stands by their work. I would totally hire a company like this. How honest and they have integrity. 😊
It’s very easy to always do the right thing and except nothing in return.
What choice did they have?
@@TheOneanjelExactly 😂
Above all, they came and confessed their mistake. That is honesty that should be applauded.
They didn't really have a choice but to admit they made a mistake.
But no one is used to companies doing the right thing & admitting a mistake these days. 😮@@deltaechomusicnh555
@@deltaechomusicnh555There have been other stories where they accidentally do it, but then demand payment
@pepsico815 Legally they can't.
There was a story recently where this woman was in Hawaii and they destroyed another house. I think it's still being fought.
This is INCREDIBLE advertising for the roofing company - because the couple was so awesome about it.
When a job is done well, the customer will refer people.
When a job is fracked up, the customer will tell 10x the people.
But if a fracked up job is made right & the customer happy, they will tell a 100 people.
Also because they did the right thing by the homeowners from the very beginning when they realize their mistake. Think how many other roofing companies would have tried to negotiate with the homeowners to pay at least a partial amount before they tried to put a new roof back on (after they already stripped it)
@@Lemarcus03... and if they talk to Inside Edition about it, they will tell 50,000 people in 3 hours.
They could give the roofing company the $3,500 savings from the insurance company. How much is the annual premium $50,000???
@@danielstadden1149 Tornado alley in a nice neighborhood. I doubt their premium is 50k. That seems excessively high. Personally, if the roof needed to be replaced, i would've offered to cover the cost of material, labor for the employees and call it a day. Company does the job at 0 profit but they did the right thing and didn't screw the customer as many other roofers have done in the past.
BEST ADVERTISING EVER for that company! If only all businesses were honest and had integrity like this one.
Honesty, Integrity, and Accountability.
Need a bunch more of this!
soooooo true! and awesome, right?
See, this is what integrity gets you. That company basically invested $30,000 into a very effective advertising campaign.
A tear off and re-shingle shouldn’t cost $30,000 for a house that size.
A two day job is 15k a day
@@DexSmith-md5ti how the hell do you try to justify that for a residential roof?
@@danrichards496 it shouldn't but it does, I did my parents house 2 years ago, which is smaller than that one and the materials and disposal and a lift cost $12k with me doing all the work.

Love seeing an honest company that didn't tarp the roof and make them go through civil court.
You hear about that all the time. You hear about this even less. "Opps. Sorry. We'll make it right.." and they did.
To be fair, I'm pretty sure it would cost the company a LOT more in damages if they took that route.
@@KevinSun242 Exactly this. Had they lost in court, the roofing company likely would have been paying to have another company do the roof. This way they're out only man hours and materials cost instead of whatever the court deems it would cost to make it right. Nobody who fights a company in court is going to then trust that company to do a good job, so anyone in their right mind is going to just take the settlement and find someone else.
theyd be paying a lot more once there was interior damge and mold and then were blasted all over the internet for being idiots- here they owned up did the right thung abd im sure the homeowners will recommend them to others and they will recoup the costs'

Respect to the roofing company Graco Roofing for being honest and real about it. Please continue this way. Awesome couple who were so kind about the situation.
Huge props to the roofing company for not even [suggesting] that they would do anything other than correcting their mistake. I would hire that company any time.

Graco Roofing deserves all the positive vibes they can get. If they were in my town, I would hire them with the knowledge that they will put things right.

That's an honest company. They deserve the recognition. 🏠

This is why a good relationship with your neighbors is important. A good neighbor would have known you were gone, known you were not planning a new roof. Would have been able to stop them at the beginning. Love your neighbor!
i love that the homeowners and business owner were all good sports about everything. its nice hearing a story that doesn't end in a battle to get things corrected or worse having to go to court.
A HUGE amount of accountability offered for this. That's AWESOME.
The owner of Graco Roofing is an honest man. If they were in North Carolina, I would have hired his company to replace the roof on my property.
You'd over pay by 20k for a roof?
I don't know if I would hire them, but I would definitely recommend them to the neighbors.
If you hire them they might put your new shingles on someone else’s house
I'd like to see the address on the city permit.
@@benjohnson7950 There is no city permit for roofing.
That’s the proper response to a mistake like that. They absolutely made it right. They knew it was their mess up and they made it right and even gave the homeowners advice that led to the homeowners saving even more money.
Right? Everybody wins in this scenario. ~$30k is cheap for advertising that the company does good work and has integrity. It was just a simple transposed number mistake.
This one mix-up may have cost them $30K, but it most likely earned them tons of new leads and clients. They weren't just honest about the mistake, they fixed/upgraded the roof which undoubtedly raised the property value. Great company. I hope they continue to flourish!
The company is getting way more than $30k in great publicity, and the owners get a brand new roof for free.
Win/Win for everyone.
Good comment.
That right there is a roofing company! And what an amazing owner. Made a mistake, owned up to it, apologized and replaced the roof for free with warranty. And props to the homeowners for being good sports and accepted that they were pretty much getting a new roof without them knowing.
That business owner did everything right. He was honest, he apologised and he made them more than whole again--he gave them a roof that is saving them $3500/year on their insurance! What a mensch. From the pics, his company did a nice job and the shingle colour complements the house beautifully.
this is what you expect "should" be done, you just hear so many cases now where it isn't.
So they should give them that 3500 back.
@@volkhen0 For the first year or for each year? If they had contracted to have the roof replaced, should they give the roofing contractor the savings on their insurance?
By handling it the way he did, I'm betting he increased his business via good will by at least 20% and possibly more. I'm sure he doesn't grudge them a single penny of the savings they get on their insurance because he's making far more off the great publicity.
This is a kind of story that i really like.
Honest, positive and no drama.
I not only give props to the roofing company taking accountability for the mishap but also the homeowners being polite about the whole ordeal.
It could have gone an entirely different direction had the homeowners been the unhappy ungrateful type.

How a company behaves after an error says so much about them. I would absolutely give my business to these roofers. Good people who own their mistakes and make things right... that's a company I'd be proud to be associated with.
I’m sure had this happened to most people they would have taken the free roof AND sued for more money. Hats off to this lovely couple and no wonder they seem to be living a comfortable life.

It’s sooooo rare you actually hear a story about a company doing damage and actually owning g up to it and making it right
Just a smart company knowing it would cost way more after a lawsuit. Paying for legal fees on both sides. Then having to pay another roofing company to do the work. Just doing the job themselves probably saves 5-10 thousand, since there’s no profit to be made.
I hope the company got lots of new customers becauseof her post. Owning up to a mistake and rectifying it properly is a rare today. Kudos to the roofing company!!!
This is a terrific story, have to applaud both the couple and the roofing company for how they handled the situation. This is the way an HONEST mistake should be responded to and rectified on both sides.
I am beyond impressed. Both sides were civil, understanding and respectful. The roofing company was upfront and honest about their error. The couple’s story on social media was the best testimonial, better than any advertising the roofing company could buy. This is how an honest mistake can get turned around into a win win situation for both sides.
This company made a mistake...but then took full responsibility for it and fixed it....Good on them👍👍👏👏
Definite props to the company for immediately making it right and not making them sue like so many would.
The way the company handled the mistake makes me agree with the comments. They deserve the recognition and the advertisement through the media. Kudos to them and gotta say, that new roof looks great!
That is awesome of that company, but also of the homeowners. There's some homeowners that would try to get more compensation, but this couple gave the company a shout out. It's a feel good story all around.
losing 30.000 $ certainly is no feel good story...
I’m not sure why they would complain. Free roof and free advertising. A win win all around
Honestly, the company deserves a shout out. I've heard many stories of contractor address mix-up, and known some people personally affected - they almost never end this well.
Likely if they sued they wouldn't get any compensation..since the roof was returned in better condition. Compensation is for damages and in this case there none.

"The homeowners were in good spirits about it." OF COURSE!! They got a free new roof!!! And that was not a $30k mistake. That is just the retail cost of a new roof for their house. Cost the company about $10k or less. Plus the added benefit of good advertising. A win for everyone.
Cost the company $10,000 only if crew was salaried and did not have other work to do.
Not sure how big a crew, but a crew of 5 experienced roofers should be able to do that in maybe a day. Say 1-2k labor. Materials another 8-10k. Rest is markup.
