- As the end approached for the Bombardier KD fleet in Dublin Bus in 1999, Donnybrooks KD358 was looked at as a possible candidate for preservation at Blackrock station Co. Dublin whilst on route 17.
As stated in the video, it was only one of 12 in Donnybrook garage at the time.
KD358 sadly never made into preservation however, another Donnybrook KD, KD236 made into preservation after withdrawal from service.
Thanks to the driver Tony for his description and condition report of the bus.

(sniff) exactly 30 years and 2 days since I first clapped eyes and ears on these excellent beasts, remeber it pulling away from a stop near the Dun laohaire terminal after getting off the St Columba on my first visit to Ireland, watching the bonnet fly open as it tore off. Magic!
Nice Video - miss the sounds of the KDs
They had some roar on long road stretches..
071 Power in the background!!
1999-fucking hell, such a long time ago now, the year I first started using buses on my own.
I used to get the 114 from there! The ould trains goin through Blackrock!
From what I remember of the Bombardier KDs, some of them were bio-degradable- they rusted like anything 😅. They were powered by a two-stroke GM Detroit engine, so were very noisy. Comfortable to travel on, all the same.
@shaunmooreokelly drove them from march 2000 till the last one was scrapped from phibsboro, possibly late 2000 or early 2001........real old bus, heavy solid feel of them. some of them could still fairly move too.
Did we have a summer that year.. look warm :):):)
You don't by any chance have a video where someone is starting up a KD do you? I've seen one on a video before but do you have one where someone is revving it?
24th May 1999
And I rewelded the chassis in the Broadstone. Do any of you remember when all of them were grounded due to the steering failed
Bring back the R's and RA's proper buses compared to these inferior boxes of junk worst buses CIE ever had
