*NO JUDGEMENT!* 🩷 If you, like lots of women, grew up with Mom, Grandma, or Auntie doing your hair at home or being taken to the salon, and continued relying on beauticians as an adult, it makes sense that you wouldn’t really know your hair or how to maintain, cut, and style it.
Out of frustration, my mom chopped off my and my sister’s hair when I was in first grade and my sister in Kindergarten. She left us with short Afros that we were responsible for taking care of. Every year or so, she trimmed our ‘Fros with clippers. Aside from that, washing and combing was up to us. My sister, to this day, never really connected with her hair. My friend’s mom had pressed it once when I was in 4th grade and I paid close attention to what she was doing. Lol this girl in high school way back when, brought her flat iron to gym and tried to flat iron her hair between changing out of gym clothes and before the next bell. I swear she passed over her one section of hair 20 times. Had the locker room smoking!!!!! I was like damn! I didn't know you could set a flat iron to "depths of hell"!
@@GetGlamFamcan you please teach us how to do this on ourselves? I don't have the desire to do others hair, I just want tips and techniques on how to do my own hair.
Yes yes, more tutorials like this lol. Also, I will bring down my heat to 360, you know I have been convinced my hair wouldn't go flat at a lower level I think it's just from trying to do it all in a hurry, but, I'll section with fewer pieces. you just gave me something to do for an hour lol I just washed and blow-dried my hair this mo'nin as always THANKS A BUNCH! GREAT TUTORIAL!
Linwood‼️‼️‼️You sir are the ABSOLUTE BEST 💯🙏🏾❤️ This tutorial was so informative and NOW I know what I was doing wrong for years. *Your style of teaching is stellar and straight forward.* You've just saved ALOT of people from heat damage and overuse of product.
Would you ever consider a video on hygiene with hair tools and things to look out for in salons? I've been wondering what's the best ways to clean brushes, combs and hot tools like blow dryer brushes when dealing with scalp yeast infections/dandruff. I currently just clean them with an anti dandruff shampoo but idk if thats enough. I haven't figured out what to do with revair though
His flat iron technique is SPOT ON. I do a few things differently: 1) Instead of “tapping” my roots with the flat iron, I press my roots, nape, and edges with a traditional (non-electric) hot comb one small section at a time. A mini hot comb is great for snatching short, tiny perimeter hairs. I think using a hot comb in this way creates a more finished look. If you don’t know how to gauge the temperature on an old-school pressing comb, an electric one will do fine. Many of them have temperature gauges now. 2) I then divide those sections into TINY sub-sections, even smaller than those in this video, and flat iron them. The smaller the sections the greater the chance of direct heat getting to each strand of hair. This allows for silky-straight results at a lower temperature. 3) Since the chase method requires so much dexterity, I attach a self-adhesive heat-resistant comb to my flat iron which leaves me with a free hand. 4) I wear heat-resistant forefinger and thumb covers (or heat-resistant glove) on my free hand and lightly pinch the tip of the flat iron during each pass. This helps me get a tighter squeeze with the iron and a smoother result. 5) Like demonstrated in this video, I make very slow passes in a downward motion. One pass is all that’s necessary. But I don’t go so slow as to leave the iron in one place too long and potentially burn my hair. Personally, I never add more heat by creating curls with a curling iron once I’ve flat ironed my hair. I will either wrap my hair or pin curl it. ❤
Hey Linwood It's been a while! How are the girls? Hope all is well. Trying to play catch up with your videos. Anywhoo Thank you for teaching this technique. Traveling mercies to ya! Smooches!❤
@getglamfam thank youuu. I was wondering why my hair was not giving the silk press look but everything you just showed me taught me that I was doing nothing more than drying and frying my hair.
I’ve been on a journey of learning to properly take care of my natural hair. So the couple of times in a year that I might need to blow dry and flat iron it, it helps to know the proper techniques. I’d hate to have come this far to turn around and re-damage it with heat. I truly appreciate your hair care tips. I’ve learned so much from you. Thank you 😊
You are so on time. I recently had knee replacement surgery. I have been doing my impression of Ciely with these braids. I have taken this time to do some deep conditioning while my hair is resting and waiting for meds to exit my system. By the end of July, I'm going to flat iron my hair and return to normal ( thanks for the flat iron suggestion, I've been searching for a good one). This technique will be followed to the minute. Thank you Linwood, you always come through when needed.
This video was very educative. I appreciate the teaching. Can you talk about best hair product, hair oil, hair spray, what to apply on your water curls to prevent it from drying during the day.
Absolutely! I have a full video that does just that to help you determine what is best for your hair. Here is the link: ruclips.net/video/sq0vwsTX4lw/видео.htmlsi=K0rr9jf2g8ObFxUY
I swear you read my mind. I was going to ask you to do a flat iron video but I didn't get around to it. I always end up doing a hundred passes. But I'm trying to get rid of the indentation I cause in the process of trying to bend the hair. I'm going to try taking the flat iron straight down just as you did. Thanks Linwood for posting this! Sorry if I spelled it wrong.
Thanks for the video, very helpful! I would love to see you make a video where you do it on wet to dry flat irons? And you give us your take on them. I hope that you have a blessed one 🤗.
This is so vindicating as a stylist because I still see some stylists taking those chunks and doing a billion passes like what beauty school did you go to ?
Thanks now I know to use smaller sections floating ironing my hair. The chase method takes practice. Can you do a update on curling your hair with a flat iron? Thanks
This was great! Thank you. Can you give a lesson on how to silk press 4B/4C (African American hair)? Also, I have difficulty using a comb with the flat iron when sulking /flat ironing my own hair. There is an awkwardness that does not happen when pressing someone else’s hair. Finally, how do we find the right heat protection products for my hair type? I have low porosity hair. I find I MUST perform hydration treatments biweekly for products to work properly. Thank you in advance for taking my question.

Hello! Well, this answers my question of where to start. Any tips for how to keep the hair that's done out of the way without ruining the straight? I can't figure it out. 😔
I literally just threw up my hands and got rid of my flat iron. Wish I had seen this first. Maybe, just maybe I can try again. Thank you for your helpful video.
I'd like to see these results demo'd on curly and kinky hair textures, respectively... for those of us who aren't starting out with straight hair from the jump😅 Can't relate to the mannequin's hair🤷🏽♀️
Shampoo and deep conditioning for both strength and moisture, a small amount of leave in conditioner, and then the heat protectant of your choosing. ☺️
I would love to see a tutorial on natural type 4 hair from start to finish. Maybe I've been doing something wrong but my hair laughs at any temperature below 420. If I tried 360 it would be completely stiff with zero movement and also not really straight. Also this was done with no product but you recommended using a leave-in conditioner + heat protectant. How to avoid the stiffness and stickiness that can sometimes come with it???
Hey!! 😊 So I have been natural for 4 years and I did my own "silk press" on my hair twice and it frizzed up after 2 hours . My daughter said it could be because my hair is not use to being straight. I think it's products or temperature. I need help. What can I do to keep it straight without frizzing up. By the way love your content 💕
I have 4b/c hair. I am older now and I find I relax my hair once or twice a year. I will be traveling to SE Aisia and I need advice on how to take care of my hair when I will be sweating 24/7. The areas I will be traveling do not have black hair care like we do and a bottle of cheap hair conditioner ( i.e. suave) cost $8-10 .
I recently (over the last year) have been experiencing an oily scalp after about 4-5 days after flat ironing it. It gets so oily the hair clumps together and it looks bad wearing it down. I’m used to being able to straighten my hair and leave it straight without it getting greasy for 2-3 weeks. What am I doing wrong? *For reference I’m black with 3C curl with medium density.
What about kinky, coily hair? Do I need to blowdry straight or as close to straight as I can get. That nylon brush n my hair..umm I just see a mess and the inability to retreive that brush. 😊
If could be a number of factors. The most common is technique, the second most is humidity. If humidity is the issue, this product is fantastic for humidity protection: amzn.to/3RQ3CW7
Absolutely! I love using that technique when flat ironing my own hair ( when it's longer because I am not about to flat iron this baby fro lol) Thanks for watching!
Even though my hair is short, I always appreciate a good flat iron technique video. Question though, how do you feel about the little comb attachment that is out that fits on the side of some flat irons? It appears to work well in the videos i have seen.
