Do you think the timelines presented here are too optimistic, or will the frantic pace of Starship development eclipse all expectations? As always, looking forward to reading your thoughts! Ryan
I think that its not too optimistic. I recently posted that an attempt at a moon landing is possible by the end of 2021! It wont be one that has much cargo. Mostly a prototype moon lander ! Your timeline for a 2022 landing is more likely, still Musk may do it to put a nail into the SLS coffin. Re Mars, Its looking to me like SpaceX wont be the holdup for the Mars missions. I cant see that there would be enough progress by anyone to fill up the 200tons of cargo space for the first 2 Starships to Mars.
I'm most looking forward to seeing the Starship test campaign. The amount of development at the Boca Chica site is amazing. If they can really use their rapid reflight to shrink their development times, humanity is going to other planets this decade.

New subscriber here: I'm very glad to have discovered this channel. After the Challenger disaster shocked me to my core when I was 14, and all the missteps and lack of vision in the interim years turned me into a sneering cynic, my curmudgeonly scepticism about Elon Musk and his "SpaceX" project back in the 2000s has gradually been eroded and replaced with the sense of wonder and optimism about humanity's space-faring future that I (really) haven't felt since 1985. Your channel, rooted in science and with its eminently practical tone, gives that vague feeling solid form and reinforces my confidence that "this is finally it!" It gives popular hope an authoritative voice. Well done, sir.
I just wanted to add I don't know much about space but watching this video has really made me excited about the upcoming moon and hopefully Mars missions!

I have been following Elon musk's journey to Mars for a while and you're presentation of the years since he started SpaceX is exactly what I remembered you have summarised everything up in 42 minutes. Once again I am reminded of everything that made me excited about space
I really enjoyed the details, and the fact that there is no watering down, a great absorbing video, rather like the old BBC horizon program. You are also a great presenter.
Incredible the amount of work this video takes, props to you my friend,we need to spread science around the world, thanks for sharing this well done video.
i am goofing on your nigel-speak, but seriously excellent job - you laid out everything for the next decades in an easy to follow manner and with all the animations. so we dont have to try to find them individually now. its all very exciting!
I’m impressed with the simplicity of Space X’s design and manufacturing compared to those of its competitors. At this point they seem poised to dominate.
The thing that makes the Starship program seem janky is that they're (like previous efforts) not hiding the failures along their fast-prototype and testing approach. The Saturn V had a lot of explosions and failures during it's development - but was off-camera from the public eye (the problem with thrust baffle designs or the lack of them being one major challenge to rectify). It's important to note because before everyone was amazed by the land and ocean landings of the Falcon rockets - SpaceX provided (and still has) a lot of gag-reels of their crash landings. This might scare the bejeezus out of anyone wondering who would fly on these disasters. But it's the transparency and the disasters themselves that show the math behind a future final successful system.
Only uninformed people and wannabe-reporters that just want to have views via click-bait headlines are the problem for pushing down to people that SpaceX ships are not safe because they blow lmao us space enthusiasts that are informed know that that is the way Elon and SpaceX work and make them able to improve so much in so little time, fast prototyping all the way. The days of slow careful Nasa/Boeing/Lockheed/NorthrupG development are gone lol
I believe trial and error approach was the same approach the soviets used to outpace the USA at the beginning of the space race. Its also enabled spacex to build rockets that land fairly reliably something nobody else has been able to achieve on a LEO capable rocket.
@@MrStevegibb It's funny you mentioned the Soviet program because - like SpaceX - after numerous failures - they were down to 'one last shot' before funding would have been denied. Naturally they made it - although their lunar rocket never did.
The path to a DC-X reusable multi-launch type rocket appears to be more problematic than previously assumed. Sorry but just again not assumptions but facts unless they have been revised by the new 'industry leaders.' NASA launched thirteen Saturn V's without a single catastrophic failure. Although the vehicles did experience occasional engine problems in flight, an engine hard-over never occurred, and these problems did not greatly affect mission performance. S-II second stage, ultra-lightweight design had led to two failures in structural testing. Instead of having an inter-tank structure to separate the two fuel tanks as was done in the S-IC, the S-II used a common bulkhead that was constructed from both the top of the LOX tank and bottom of the LH2 tank. It consisted of two aluminum sheets separated by a honeycomb structure made of phenolic resin.
I absolutely love how clear and concise the format of this presentation is! The prospect of being a small part of the big picture is breath taking. A million person habitat that has the potential to link to another million person habitat via an underground subway system also seems probable. With fail - safe pressurized air locks on either end so, that Electric (solar powered?) Trains would travel faster. Linking communities may provide more diverse opportunities for potential growth. I can imagine that an exciting enthusiasm will be sparked in most individuals with an adventurous spirit!
We need not despair at man's achievements when you see what immense and amazing steps have been made so far! Man has sent a robot to explore the surface of Mars and has successfully analysed its surface! When you truly think about it - WOW!!
I hope you enjoyed my attempt to connect all the pieces between Commercial Crew, Starship, Artemis, and human Mars missions.

You should have a KIDS YOU TUBE with all the new updates. I am retired now with my husband . At our summer lake home. This was my favorite video . So informative.
Married now 5 years... Barbie Sinclair Irons now . Yep
Absolutely brilliant man. The best, and most comprehensive, explanation of current plans and most logical supposition for beyond those plans. Well done.
Love your work! Incredibly informative, astounding amount of material, very well put together and first class presentation. One of the best I’ve seen. Well done!
I agree with all the positive comments. This presentation was so awesome, that it is the first time I've ever commented on youtube. A job well done! To all, I say "Upwards and Onward!"
This is what I was looking for, thanks for the video. Great work. You got yourself a sub😁
Hands down, this is the most fact immersive, well presented and thoroughly entertaining production I've seen on our current human endeavors in our collective space programs. Thank you so much! You've got yourself another subscriber!
This is such a brilliant Channel and so very well done. I come back and watch the videos over and over.
Thanks!
Thank you! Great presentation, and precise information . I’m Excited!
Me: Hmmm...42 mins video, no time to watch the whole thing...
Also me: Commenting after watching the whole video. Lol..
Awesome video..@Martialcolonist :)
Hope the quality justified the length!
@@martiancolonist certainly did, props to you. This is really well made!
@@martiancolonist of course... no doubts!!..
Best Update ever..for real :)
Haha! YES! ...aaand... (for me) both prior-to and half-way through. ...and I still finished it.
A very worthy 42-mins. Very comprehensive.
Great work Ryan. Commendable effort indeed 👍🏻
imagine:
a rocket flies with multiple times of the speed of sound, smashes into the atmosphere of a dead planet, then plummets and just straight up falls down towards the surface, only to turn upright in the last moment when the engines are turned back on and touchdown
most normal people: "omg are you alright?"
spaceX: "shuddup this is how i land"
hahaha good one, mate!
:) For a second I thought you were gonna say "this is how I roll."...
Shouldn't that be...SpaceX: 'Hold my beer'?
Hahaha "I don't fuck around"
Well. I'm 66. Would love to see all this happen, albeit most likely watching from earth. Very well made as well as very informative. Have been following and watching SpaceX with great interest. Will always remember the 1st moon landing. Looking forward to seeing it in these times.
Yes, so long as my taxes aren't paying for the joy ride. But you can chip in your social security check if you like the idea.
You're doing great work with your updates! Excited to have you include the SpaceX 150M hop & perhaps so much more next time! Thanks!
Planning the next Mars Update for after Elon's presentation in October. They'll certainly be much to cover!
Well done, sir. I enjoy your attention to detail, clarity, and well researched depth of knowledge. Videos like these are hard to make especially long ones. I share you enthusiasm.
You should get this onto PBS.
It is rather documentary-like isn't it?
Why should this be put on the Propagandistic Broadcast System? That biased hunk of shit is unworthy of fact-based documentaries like this one.
What is this ,pbs, you speak of.
For Real :)
Robert Wokosin PBS is the Public Broadcasting System.

Wow thank you for all the effort you have put into this film. Your narration and content is superb! A truly awe inspiring near future we can look forward to...!
Great Video Man!! This is the first video of yours I have seen. I had no idea all this was going on. Pretty cool stuff! I subscribed :). Now I have to go and watch a Star Trek movie lol
Thank you for this very interesting informative documentary.
This video is amazing! It's clear the amount of effort you put into it and I really enjoyed it. Thank you
Really loved the episode. Thank you for all the efforts and research you put into making this episode. 🤩✋
The future of space exploration is nearing. Hopefully I will be around to witness these ambitious achievements and contribute!
Your face and voice says: I'm an enthusiast of life. Great job man.
Should be an exciting decade ahead. Finally, we're getting somewhere.
"To infinity and beyond." That's the Buzz.
@@David-yo5ws yea right lmao
@MartianColonist, i really enjoy your mars updates. With all new things happening around spacex starship. It would be great to see your vision about the developments!
Working on it!
Why doesn’t this channel have 10+ million subscribers? Holy shit the quality is amazing.
@paul w prick
42 minutes, perfectly clear and info-packed. Was a real treat to watch!!
Great work mate!
Your channel, rooted in science and with its eminently practical tone, gives that vague feeling solid form and reinforces my confidence that "this is finally it!"
It gives popular hope an authoritative voice.
Well done, sir.
Thanks for your kind words, great to have you here!
What a fantastic and informative video!
I just wanted to add I don't know much about space but watching this video has really made me excited about the upcoming moon and hopefully Mars missions!
Your vids are really great - clear, informative, intelligent but not contrived. I love them long but maybe the odd shorter one? I'm thinking you can produce more often!! Keep them coming...
I have been following Elon musk's journey to Mars for a while and you're presentation of the years since he started SpaceX is exactly what I remembered you have summarised everything up in 42 minutes. Once again I am reminded of everything that made me excited about space
So well presented. Thank you for this unprecedented Mars update. #MuchAppreciated.
I really enjoyed the details, and the fact that there is no watering down, a great absorbing video, rather like the old BBC horizon program. You are also a great presenter.
Incredible the amount of work this video takes, props to you my friend,we need to spread science around the world, thanks for sharing this well done video.
Absolutely insane!! Very clear and easy to understand!
i am goofing on your nigel-speak, but seriously excellent job - you laid out everything for the next decades in an easy to follow manner and with all the animations. so we dont have to try to find them individually now. its all very exciting!
I really enjoyed listening to the narrater as I watched this very interesting moon update. Give us the moon baby!
At 1.25 speed hes great
@@Alignedtop yeah he is too..
Thank you! l throughly enjoyed watching this episode.
You are getting better and better with production quality on each episode. Well done Pal!
I’m impressed with the simplicity of Space X’s design and manufacturing compared to those of its competitors. At this point they seem poised to dominate.
Appreciable effort for the visit to Red Planet.
Nice comprehensive update, and English wife would say, with a (lovely) southern British accent! I'm AmERican!
Amazing video!! Timelines and explanation are great! Thank you and Congrats from Brazil! ;-)
Hi, this is your friendly reminder you're very much overdue for an update
Working on it 😉
The thing that makes the Starship program seem janky is that they're (like previous efforts) not hiding the failures along their fast-prototype and testing approach.
Only uninformed people and wannabe-reporters that just want to have views via click-bait headlines are the problem for pushing down to people that SpaceX ships are not safe because they blow lmao
us space enthusiasts that are informed know that that is the way Elon and SpaceX work and make them able to improve so much in so little time, fast prototyping all the way.
@@GenikaXVI Yup. And let's not forget that "Slow and careful" just means "Step by Step, Ferociously" :)
Excellent job. You have been able explain what few people have been able to do. Congrats.
Really well put together and presented video. Thank you!
Stephen Hawking's video about leaving the Earth soon have brought me here...
I'm truly excited about the Starship!!!
We need not despair at man's achievements when you see what immense and amazing steps have been made so far!
Man has sent a robot to explore the surface of Mars and has successfully analysed its surface!
When you truly think about it - WOW!!
