I reckon this is one of the best things he's ever written. They're going to have to be very careful to capture the simple beauty of this piece when they record it.
This version... Is the best by far. The way he hits the ‘down a mine’ is just beyond human. Been rewatching this video for nearly a decade now. Anyone who saw this live was so so lucky.
The Breakfast Menu yeah his singing here is effortless and beautiful. The singing on the studio version is, according to me, really unconvincing, as if Thom were bored singing it. And he’s struggling reaching the same notes.
+Aqua Azumarill It's still growing on me! It's one of my favorite songs on the album, but I am still getting into it. I listened to this version (live at Latitude 2009) probably 60 times or more, so it's going to take many listen of the album version before I'm completely used to it. The choral stuff (or is that just Thom + effects? It's hard to tell!) in the latter half of the song is fantastic, though! I try to reserve my judgements about new Radiohead albums, because they often take me months to fully appreciate. I don't understand how reviewers can listen to it once or twice and come to some grand conclusion. Although the album isn't as lively as KoL (I really liked most of KoL, a lot of people didn't...), the overall sound and vibe is exactly what I like. Favorite songs so far: Ful Stop, Indentikit, Present Tense, The Numbers. What are your thoughts?
decks dark is really nice too I like studio version of this song more though cause I listened to it before I checked out this one I guess it depends on which one u listen to first maybe wat do u say

I’ve been watching this pretty much weekly for ten years and the goosebumps never stop coming.. If you were lucky enough to see this live then you must’ve not been able to move for goosebumps!
It is absolutely amazing that so much talent, emotion, and thorough understanding of the human condition can all be concentrated in one individual. If only we all could do what we were meant to do on this earth.
Fucking incredible . Present Tense may be the greatest song Thom has ever written. This performance magical. Studio version is just as incredible. Compliment each other , perfectly.
I love the album version - the first time I heard it I thought they'd ruined it with the Samba vibe. But after a couple of listens it really works. I think one of the main things that makes this version work is that you can see so much emotion on Thom's face... he is completely drowned in the song.
+chrisjhart221138 I had the same first reaction, but in the end it adds a kind of humor and intimacy, the samba vibe. I like both versions. This one's darkly beautiful, and the other one has this little smile cracked behind it.
See, that is wrong! you have to embrace other styles of music! Im not saying all the genres or that you are a "limited person" for not like that thing that they add to the song at your very first listen(besides anyone that listen radiohead is a genius, so good for you hah). Radiohead is a band that it's always bringing something new and pretty to listen for the listener. We have to be more open to the things that music offers to us, because, if you think like I do, part of doing music is for the people, to keep moving (like thom says) and get over all the shitty things that can happen to you. I hope do not take my opinion as a critisize to your thougths, I respect them!. Like we said in my country: Abrazo! (hug :) )
Even stripped back like this in it's earliest form this is an incredibly beautiful song. The finalised album version is one of my favourite RH songs ever, and I've got every single album, tons of other stuff and I've seen them live 5 times. Not gonna lie - I cried when I saw them play this live! lol
Thom Yorke is a very talented singer and songwriter..one of the best...beautiful poetry put to music...can't think of anyone better...except Radiohead's singer/songwriter. " smiling biggly !!! "
God bless you tvoronina for being there and filming this. Half the views are mine. I swear this is the most open and direct song Thom has ever written. He sounds so naked.Raw as hell.

Sounds great, feels that all ghosts in your deepest insides are running, escaping from the void to shut down in a silence, like in a beatiful garden where music and nature grows, where the no words or sights, where begin your days near perfect sky, sky that is the mirror of you
He looks so professional! Like the perfect musician, messy hair, clumsy beard and an mysterious look. Perfect! And it's really impressive to hear his vocal Thumbs up
The fact that everyone here obviously feels so strongly about there favourite head album just proves how important and inspiring their music is!! Give me any radiohead album at any time of any day an I'll be a happy fellow. Peace
one of the many songs of his and of Radiohead that have felt that it knew me like my breath... that it went through me like atomization... that it spoke me like my dna. luckily i was in my room alone when this one hit me first. i remember years ago having to pull over in my car as i started sobbing when i put the newly bought Kid A CD in the player... and heard it start... i stayed pulled over sobbing until it was over... learned not to be in public when i hear a new Yorke, or Radiohead song....
Thom embodies this exquisite song with his whole being. It's a privilege to experience one who is a true artist. All the formal training and technical skill in the world won't achieve that if it isn't present in a person's heart. I love every muscle movement in his little face and could watch him indefinitely.
The great thing about Radiohead / Thom Yorke is the fact that if and when he / they ever release this song as an album track, it will probably be barely recognisable to the way he plays it here... but it will be equally incredible. It's not fair that one person can have this much talent. But I'm pleased :-)
my favourite thom yorke song listened to it atleast 100 times everytime its just as amazing. amazing....i reckon its one of his most meaningful songs. thom yorke u are a genius
I think they both have their merits. I prefer this one for its raw emotion (plus I've been listening to it since 09 thanks to this upload) but as the song is about someone putting on a brave face as their world falls apart, the other is more tonally appropriate.

In an old interview, Yorke said that "Reckoner" was influenced by Frusciante's guitar. But in this track it's much more noticeble.
thats pretty good to know, ty man
thats pretty good to know, ty man
Thom said it was actually influenced by a portishead song- the rip.
And definitely there's influences from Bossa Nova
The chords of this song is a sample of a Greenwood's song to the film Norwegian Wood
One of Thom's finest moments...
I love that hairstyle it looks good on him
The raw emotion in his voice makes this still my favorite version of this song.
The last 30 seconds too it seems like he's holding back so much just to keep the performance going.
This really is his best vocal on this one, the first ever public performance of it.
My god. I love this performance so much. He makes me cry..
