I don't see Florida State making the cut. They are not up to academic standards. I know that doesn't mean anything to the SEC, but it does to the Big Ten presidents. Colleges that make a much better fit include Clemson, North Carolina, Virginia, Boston College, Stanford, Washington, & Oregon. Of course, if you want to press Notre Dame to join, you do what you can to blow up the ACC, and take Notre Dame rivals off the board, like Stanford or BC.
I think Oregon & Washington make much more sense. USC & UCLA need some teams in the same time zone to cut down on travel, esp for olympic sports. But, Clemson & North Carolina make sense, helping everyone to recruit the south, and gain lots televisions in the expanded footprint.

Throw that regional alignment out the door. USC and UCLA realized it's all about Benjamin's. When you add The BIG10, as ACU research universities, it far surpasses the SEC, revenue. You gotta remember, universities are about academics first.

You are right about academics. Are you aware that Florida State University is tied with Maryland & Rutgers as the 17th best “Public” university in the countries by US News & World Report. FSU’s Research funding is hard to nail down, and the fiscal year for 2022 - 2023 have yet to be released. The 2021 - 2022 indicate two streams of funding for research at $150 million + another $750 million. Then their are Black Budget items working with the U.S. Navy, Air-force, and and NASA. The Medical Research Facility on Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare: Main Hospital Campus. TMH is a juggernaut that owns almost every hospital in the panhandle & big bend of Florida. FSU has the largest Magnet in the world, and 1 of 2 most powerful Super Computers in the world. There are scientists from around the world that comes to Tallahassee, and others who run calculations on the Super Computer. FSU’s AAU status is not dependent on joining the B1G. We could join the SEC and still strive & work on obtaining AAU Status.

Clemson like FSU can only go to the SEC to get to one of the two giants. B10 has 18 and they are willing to wait and see if ND will grace their conference. They also hope taking Stanford will enhance ND to make the move. Plus they do not want to go over 20 teams. They may never get ND but they can afford to wait b/c there will be better academic teams left over from the ACC if the ACC falls apart. Finally, the culture of FSU and Clemson plus location clearly make the SEC the most likely destination. In short, if Clemson and FSU are waiting for a B10 invite based on the current situation, it ain’t happening. One other factor that may deter the SEC from making the move for these schools is their exit problems and the perception that they can be troublesome partners. I’m not sure I agree with that perception but apparently Florida and South Carolina are posing concerns. Personally I think they raise these concerns b/c they never wanted them in their conference historically.

Has to be in my top 5 of most useless interviews. The Big 10 is eyeing Oregon, Washington, CAL, and Stanford. South Carolina cannot keep Clemson out nor can Florida keep FSU out by themselves. Proposed conference expansion in the SEC is approved if 3/4 of the ADs vote their support. Right now, that is 11/14 members but will be 12/16 come 2024. A&M voted to approve adding Texas/OU because they didn't want to be on an island by themselves. Unlike the Big 10, the SEC prizes geographical integrity/identity. It requires less travel expenses/travel time, not only for the conference members, but for the fans that support them. It's all about eyeballs on TV sets when it comes to the value of broadcast rights for networks, not just expansion into un-served areas. Clemson and FSU have historically been rated in or near the top 10 nationally in terms of average per game viewership. NC, NC State, VA, VA Tech rank anywhere from #46 to #79. If Clemson opted for the Big 10, they would be the uncle no one at the family reunion would claim is related. Face it, Clemson people are FAR more culturally aligned with Knoxville, Athens, Tuscaloosa, Auburn, and Gainesville than with Camp Randall or Ann Arbor.

You are assuming that FSU wants to go the SEC? I’m pretty sure they already rebuffed the SEC once. FSU is in the process of building a massive medical complex on campus in order to apply for AAU status. The best way to compete with UF in state for prestige is to get a piece of the BIG research pie and access to all the resources offers its members academically. Plus, they would get 10+ million dollars a year more than if they joined the SEC. Just because the SEC values geographic proximity doesn’t mean that the school on the open market does…I can guarantee you if FSU e entered the BIG there games would be sell outs with BIG fans. Plus, the BIG has better ATV numbers than the SEC, hence the much fatter TV media deal. Now that the BIG games will be on fox nbc and cbs instead of ESPN I can’t imagine those numbers won’t increase even more.

Idk how choosing to join the BIG instead of the SEC because they would get more money, and better institutional support for their academic institution means they are duckin the SEC?
No one in the BIG is ducking anyone in the SEC. Honestly, the only people ducking anyone would be the sec folks who refuse to come up here and play a BIG team, BIG only play SEC teams in the south. None of you have ever ventured north to play a football game.

Secondly. Vanderbilt has finished ranked in the final polls twice in football in the last 10 years. That's better than Rutgers, Indiana and Illinois. So don't try and tell me that Vandy is worse than any Big Ten program. And I feel pretty safe in saying that the bottom of the SEC has been better than the bottom of the Big Ten. You want to knock Auburn? Auburn wins and plays for national titles. Good grief dude. Learn some football history.
Yeah that 9 game conference schedule really toughens up you guys up north !! I'm sure that's the reason LSU ran Purdue off the field with our second string defense. Or maybe that's why Ohio St. is 2-12 against the SEC all-time in bowl games. And please....cool it with the scheduling argument. It's not like Big Ten teams are traveling south all the time either.

As a Maryland alumnus (class of '77) who's made trips to Clemson for Terp-Tiger athletic events and enjoyed that attractive college town, I would have no objection to the Big Ten adding purple and orange. However, I'm not certain B1G presidents would feel the same way. While Clemson is a fine school academically with some superb programs, it's perceived at roughly the same level as Textile Bowl rival N.C. State (another non-AAU institution), and I don't see any clamor for NCSU to join the B1G even if the unthinkable came to pass and UNC and Duke joined the SEC. A more likely alternative for Clemson is the Big 12, which I think will eclipse both the ACC and Pac to become the undisputed #3 (or even #2A) of college conferences. That seems like a conference which knows what it's doing in men's and women's hoops, and adding the Tigers would enhance its football heft (and TV $$$$).

Seems during the application/invitation process Nebraska kinda sorta forgot to mention that they were about to leave AAU. Big 10 Presidents said that had they known they never would have invited Nebraska into the conference.
Clemson’s best bet is Big12. They could be just as good there as in ACC. (Season record). If Clemson joined the SEC they would have problems. Clemson will end up in the SEC and here's why:
The SEC cannot allow the B1G in its southern footprint and maintain any sort of parity in the coming system, the map just can't support it. Here's the script and you can see why:
THE FULL PICTURE IS IN! -August 11, 2022
    ND TO STAY INDEPENDENT;
MIAMI IS IN, JOINING THE SEC!
    (They're going to 25)
THE NEW FULL MEMO ON COLLEGE FOOTBALL REALIGNMENT...
Please remember, as Commissioner Warren said, these things are planned well in advance...
To the B1G (FOX): Pitt, Stanford, Cal, Washington, Utah, Oregon, Kansas, Arizona and Colorado for 25 (all here mentioned are AAU schools).
To the SEC (ESPN): NC(aau), Duke(aau), UVA(aau), Clemson, Florida St., West Virginia, Georgia Tech(aau), Miami and Virginia Tech for 25.
Notre Dame (NBC) (and BYU?) will stay independent with playoff access. Look for an independent alliance to include ND, BYU and the service academies moving forward.
NOTE: Divisions are only for the purpose of assuring regional play and reducing travel, and could be annually flexible by school requests. These divisions are likely to be more relevant in non football sports. The football teams with the top 4 (at least, could go to 8 [flexibility?], culminating with the Rose Bowl) conference records will go to the conference semifinals in early or mid December regardless of their divisions, and the conference championships are to be played on New Year's Day (B1G/Rose, SEC/Sugar, Third25/Cotton).
    B1G25 Southern Pacific division
    Cal
    USC
    UCLA
    Arizona
    Utah
    B1G25 Northern Pacific division
    Colorado
    Nebraska
    Stanford
    Oregon
    Washington
    B1G25 Great Plains division
    Minnesota
    Iowa
    Kansas
    Wisconsin
    Illinois
    B1G25 Great Lakes division
    Indiana
    Purdue
    Northwestern
    Michigan
    Michigan State
    B1G25 Union division
    Rutgers
    Maryland
    Penn State
    Pitt
    Ohio State
    Meet the SEC25:
Knowing that Pitt is going B1G, and 8 more ACC schools are going to the SEC, that's more than enough schools than needed to break the ACC contract.
Given the continuing regional continuity of the SEC, divisions will be even less significant than in the B1G. Maintaining certain rivalries and neighborly games will be more a matter of game "reservation" than divisional assignments. Again, the 4 (or 8, or a flexibility to assure fair access) best conference records of the SEC to play in semifinals in early December.
    Texas
    Oklahoma
    Texas A&M
    Arkansas
    Kentucky

    Vanderbilt

    Georgia
    Georgia Tech
    South Carolina
    Clemson
    North Carolina
    Duke
    UVA
    Virginia Tech
    West Virginia
    Miami
The rest to comprise TheThird25 conference with access relegation to playoff eligible divisions (similar to Euro soccer leagues) with guaranteed football playoff slots for their top teams every year. (Realignment for non football sports in this third conference, as membership could include 40 or so schools, with likely only 25 members of which will start the football season with access to the national playoff, more permanent regional sub conferences will be needed, and allowing these regional divisions to develop organically is expected to be one of the final components, and possibly most time consuming, such that the networks/B1G/SEC intend to allow the third conference a couple years of organization before defining a final playoff structure.)
This third conference is going to be full of badass non AAU schools from coast to coast, will have playoff access, and likely compete well for national titles moving forward.
And now be introduced to TheThird25 Conference:
TheThird25 (Apple/Amazon/Innovative Media Delivery, -and maybe CBS)
    (Assuming BYU stays independent)
    1) Oklahoma St.
    2) Washington St.
    3) TCU
    4) Arizona St.
    5) Kansas St.
    6) Baylor
    7) Boise St.
    8) San Diego St.
    9) NC St.
    10) Tulane (AAU school)
    11) Rice (AAU school)
    12) UCF(disney/espn)
    13) Louisville
    14) Cincinnati
    15) Houston
    16) Boston College
    To finish TheThird25:
    Utah State
    Syracuse
    Hawaii
    Oregon State
    Fresno State
    Iowa State
    Texas Tech
    SMU
Memphis and/or Southern Miss or Wake Forrest or Colorado State or Tulsa or Wyoming or New Mexico or UConn or Nevada or UTEP or Army or Navy or Air Force... etc. Relegation clearly required.
    The Eligible76 (77 - BYU?)
So that makes 76 teams with playoff access each year: B1G25, SEC25, TheThird25 (with relegation beyond 25), and independent Notre Dame (and BYU?).
B1G/SEC to play 9 of 11 regular season games in conference (4 division, 1 each in the other 4 divisions, plus 1 reserved/rivalry game =9), and 2 non conference games (1 allowed to be an opponent beyond the eligible76).
    How can this happen?
Quite simply. -and in the end likely a value booster for all schools through the 3 mega conferences...
Except for the 32 currrent legacy members of the B1G/SEC, revenue sharing as we've known it is finished. The rest will be taken on and paid in accord with their relative fanbase/marketshare and other values brought to the table.
And they're selling this beautifully.... This has to be the single best dudes' soap opera to run the sportswire in some time. This is intentional.
It's a done deal, but milking the interest is just the first part of this brilliant college football marketing campaign. -or, blame capitalism. ✌🤠✌
Look for something called the "Independent Invitational" game to be played in early December alongside the conference semifinals, and to be managed by The Playoff Commission, playing Notre Dame (and/or BYU?) and possibly service academies against a team hoping to make a playoff or better bowl claim, or any other 2 teams the Commission may deem appropriate in a given year in order to help clarify and minimize their playoff selections upcoming after the bowls. (It has been proposed that any Division 1 school relegated beyond the eligible76 could achieve instant transcendence with an undefeated (11-0) season -w/10 D1 wins- and a likely invitation to the Independent Invitational prior to major bowl selection.)
The bowls will play out during the holidays and could have playoff selection implications depending on the year.
    PLAYOFF FLEXIBILITY IS THE KEY
(setting an arbitrary number of playoff slots before the season plays out is a failed model):
The concept of yearly playoff flexibility should be incorporated. Every year is different; setting an arbitrary number of playoff slots before the season plays out inevitably rubs against fairness for the next team left out.
After the 3 Conference championships on New Year's Day (yielding 3 guaranteed advanced playoff births) the Playoff Commission should call no less than 4 teams, but up to 16, or any (even odd) number in between, such that no eligible undefeated team is left out (an "objective, measurable, clear and articulable delineation between the last team to qualify, and all remaining eligible teams..."), and playing such few games as necessary to answer but one question:
    Who is number 1?

EVERYONE keeps saying that ND needs to go to the Big10. Notre Dame does NOT want in the Big10. Why won’t people accept that? They have stated this for decades, most recently last year. Yes they have a rivalry with Michigan State & a minor rivalry with Purdue. That’s it. Michigan “thinks” they have a rivalry with ND but ND is apathetic towards them.
Despite their location ND does not want to be known as a “Midwestern” school. That’s their guiding mantra. With USC & Stanford they have a presence on the west coast. (USC in Big10 doesn’t change that). They wanted a presence East & South. This is why they had a rivalry with Army & BC from 1920s-50s, Georgia Tech in 1960s-70s, Tennessee & Miami in 1980s-90s. This is why they joined Big East & later the ACC.
If ACC goes down ND would join Big 12, possibly the SEC. One conference they won’t join is Big10.
