Fun Fact: Most people who buys Pick-up Trucks don't use them as trucks, they use them as oversized cars.😅
Pick-ups are essential in the rural world!
Great towing capabilities, big load box and 4x4 traction. All very useful to the rural country.
They are very common in southern Portugal, by the obvious reasons (Alentejo), not just in the US, Australia or Suid Afrika. I just don’t get it why people buy them for “city life”.
They are also very popular in Philippines for the reasons you mentioned.
Yes. Especially the compact "kei trucks". Larger bed size, compact size and the bed is lower to the ground so it will be easier to load.
Shame it contains so much misleading and misinformation. Not your best work, whereas the quality is usually outstanding. Main reason for their popularity is the tax break you get, since these are considered commercial vehicles. You also can’t claim popularity when you don’t compare stats to overall sales.
I hope (expect) to see your usual quality work next week again!
Thanks mom...
The ads are impressive😂
I am a farmer from southeastern Eu. I could use a pick up,but just don't need it..i have some small old, cheap car and drive it all the time on dirt roads to check up my many fileds and use it for short distance. If i need to carry some heavy cargo 500-1000kg,i hook up a car trailer. Much more practical car for me,than pick up, would be a new mpv or minivan (something like wv caddy or peugeot expert, both with 5 seats) Mpv's a roomier and more comfortable, faster on roads, highways ,better in curves, lower fuel consuptin..No need for 4x4 system...
1:39 "Even though they're outdated"
They're not. They move things long distances. They will always be needed. There isn't a universe where people will not need to move large quantities of items and equipment from one place to another quickly. They perform the same function as a forklift. Nothing about their purpose is 'outdated' in the slightest, and most likely never will be be.
Modernity does not override demand for function.
Yet the vast majority of pickup trucks never have anything on the tray, and never tow anything. They're generally just used for showing off. Most of them are quite impractical too, having a small bed compared to the old single cab pickup trucks, and the bed is so high which makes loading and unloading things more difficult than it should be.
There are compact pickups like Ford Maverick, Hyundai Santa Cruz, Ram Rampage or Fiat Toro. They could sell better in Europe.
Kei trucks rule for businesses.
Why should we want to buy a pickup lol? Only construction workers drive these things over here
this is misleading, most unit sold in japan is small light pickup truck called kei truck
in asia pickup truck is generally small and based on commercial light van like Mitsubishi Delica/L300/L400, Daihatsu gran max and Suzuki Carry
Something actually more useful than those brodozers.
yes, but everywhere else in Asia, the pickups are triumphed by the Hilux, Dmax, Navara, and Triton
Many Americans use trucks for
Pulling campers, running small business, plowing large snow covered driveways, hauling firewood, traveling with large families with lots of recretional gear and sometimes even motercycles, large amounts of livestock and feed are transported, these trucks are great for DIY progects, possibly you just somewhat misunderstood what they are used for ?
Thanks captain obvious, what would we do without you? And many more use them as status symbols and to get laid. Do you really think you need to spend 60k+ on a pickup truck when you could do the same things with a 1995 ford pickup? People buy new cars to flex, period!
The people who don't use trucks think they know better than the people who do. Cultural imperialism and colonization.
A four door pickup truck is a Swiss Army knife of autos. It hauls the family, the construction materials, the bikes to the trails, the camping gear, the groceries and does it all whether you live in northern Minnesota or Southern California. They do everything you need with better fuel economy than a Cadillac from the 1960’s. It may be big but for most people it has less carbon footprint than TWO vehicles that used to sit in the driveway.
That's a nice dream you have there, but you need to realize that the vast majority of pickup truck owners will never do the things you mentioned.
I'm from Lithuania, i own F-150 V8 5L massive engine! I dont give a damn about climate :D i like sound of my car, that's all i need :D
The Ford Courier sneaked into the F-Series lineup like the cool kid crashing a family reunion! 😂 Courier be like, 'I may not be an F-Series by blood, but I'm part of the truckin' family now!
Our bad! Sorry about the mistake...
I like older american trucs really nice, here in Europe they are soo expensive. With our gasprice not good, in Sweden we have a lot of space on the roads and in towns but I live in south of France, and in all old towns villages it will be tight if you go for the really big ones and hard to find parking.
In middle East that 10% of truck owners are all territories
Hilux everywhere
A lot of roads in Japan are even narrower than in Europe, yet the country is apparently the 7th biggest market for pick ups...
Depends on the type of pickup, is what we've learned.
They have tax loophole , that's why
You could tax trucks more than cars and trucks would still out sale them… it’s what people want
If i had the money i would buy a Raptor but Australia is so expensive. ps and wish they would come in a manual (Stick Shift) for the americans, so i'll stick to my Australian made Falcon which has never let me down.
As a American who drives a small subcompact ngl driving my work truck is fun. Diving body on frame trucks and SUVs are fun.
I experimented and tried a Honda Fit. I dont really see much reason to ever buy a sedan or hatchback ever again. The driving dynamics and mpg are great and I enjoy a lot of it. But will always prefer high ground clearance, and feel and looks of trucks and SUVs.
I think the size is getting a bit out of hand. I have never seen any other car have as much space as full size trucks do. But they are so tall and huge now I cant even reach over and touch the bed of the truck. My bosses new 2024 Silverado vs the old 07 we have are basically not even comparable. The size difference is crazy.
However there really arent that many other truck offerings. Lots of midsize trucks like a Tacoma still have terrible rear seat room leaving full size trucks to be the only way if you want 4 doors. My Honda Fit is more spacious than all the midsize trucks Ive been in.
Anyway if you want Americans to stop buying big car then just make good looking desirable smaller cars.
Obviously you don't like driving, because no stock standard, production pickup truck will handle as well as a modern, well sorted car. Try driving something like a BMW 3 series, Golf GTI, Civic Type R, and you'll quickly see how much better these are to drive than a pickup.
Obviously the original commenter does like driving, but by American standard and not the European one. We are more concerned with a smooth ride and less about cornering because most of our roads are straight and with gentle curves. And we like our physical space. Those matter less to other cultures. Diversity and tolerance and inclusion are good things. Always will be room for the F-150, S Klasse, Kei car, and Golf in the world.
Emission regulations drove the industry direction ....
I want a midsize EV pickup truck 👍
Cheers from Ontario, Canada
Wow what's up with the thumbnail 😂 can't believe Germany being disrespectful to it's master
I like when this journalist makes auto pieces for various channels.
I'm a family of 1, and I will always drive a truck or SUV.
Crazy indeed 😂
@@kabysummit5801 he drives it because he can. No other reasons needed.
Nissan Navara's not built in Japan & the X-class was a rebadged Navara
So does the current Toyota Hilux...
Also known as the Stadtpanzer, or the Brodozer.
Blame that on the chicken tax.
the kind of automobile that more dangerous for our kids and pedestrians
They need something to fit in 😁maybe blimp next
Even Africa guys
these must be banned
Boycott anyone with a pickup truck
*ban american size pickup truck
"We need to ban assault vehicles now!" If only our politicians and lawmakers aren't that hypocritical.
US is not global… out side US, how many pick ups are sold every year?
Well, quite a lot and the second biggest market after the US is Thailand...
I love us trucks❤
Feels like more of a ford commercial to me, you could have talked about Toyota more based on your gathered data that it is leading worldwide, but instead you spent big chuck of video talking about ford. I personally love Ford from Escape, Bronco, F150…but Toyota is worth mentioning more when it comes down to reliability and how easy it is to get fixed on the side of the road when needed.
We are in SE Asia this winter and Toyota is #1 followed by Nissan and Mitsubishi
You have some really delicate feelings lmao
Pickups are actually a Do Everything vehicle;
Carry 5 adults ✔️
Tow three tonnes ✔️
1 tonne load ✔️
Go off-road ✔️
Jack of all trades, master of non
They also kill a. Lot of people
That's a small pickup if it can only tow 3 tons.
@@rich7447 reminder these are metric tonnes ( 3= 6,640lb), but yes I'm referring to what Americans would call mid-sized pick-ups. Most are rated to tow 3.5 tonnes ( = 7,720lb)
@@kalomboC I'm aware. A tow rating of 7,720 lbs is low. You would expect that kind of rating on a desert race truck. My tow rating is 30,000 lbs on a conventional hitch or 33,000 lbs on a bed mounted hitch.
@@rich7447 you're an American, of course it's low for you. The rest of us, 3.5 tonnes is good enough 🤷🏿♂️
We need bigger trucks. Who's with me?🥳
Where are Ford F-Max and Ford Ranger? Why only Ford F-Series?
It's not even the F series. It is the F150 only.
DW is supposed to stand for a well-made, thorough, and classy short video or documentary.
This is none of that - the picture used for the video containing f**k yeah words as if it's supposed to be funny, mentioning of pollution and size without making a correlation between new technologies such as electric pick ups and their sales, no mentioning of Dodge and their pick up truck line-up, not talking about the future and further development of these vehicles and their main competitors (SUVs), and finally stating that Europe is a niche market for these vehicles - what kind of niche market, for what? Electric pick ups? Small pick ups? You had stated that European streets are small ergo these vehicles cannot be driven there so easily, so what exactly is niche here?
The whole video seems as if it's been outsourced and not made in DW kitchen...
Totally agree! A bunch of advertisements pasted together, and didn't really answer the question in the title.
¿Maybe Because they have thje Space Europe Doesn't Have? ... Easy Answer's for Hard Questions 🤣
Because they are rubbish and overpriced
I was thinking because America got any over size 😂 won’t fit in regular cars
And in Thailand ?
I think many of these big trucks are owned by men with small ego and something else who is too small 😂
As an American, I absolutely HATE our trucks. They should be disallowed OR wildly wildly taxed…
Same!As a V8 RWD Full-Size Ford Panther Platform(Ford Crown Victoria,Ford Country Squire,Mercury Grand Marquis,Mercury Colony Park,and Lincoln Town Car) and GM B Body Fan(Chevy Caprice,Chevy Impala SS,Pontiac Bonneville,Oldsmobile 88/98,Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser,Buick LeSabre/Electra/Roadmaster,and Cadillac Deville/Fleetwood) Sedan and Station Wagon fan!I UNIRONICALLY AGREE WITH THIS!💯
Larger cars endanger other road users.
Go live in north korea
No no no and no!! Don't let those socialists get to you. We need more cow bell. We need them bigger, like spaceships. Maybe electric for the silly planet and stuff, but much bigger.😅
Keep your thoughts to yourself, bus rider
Pickup trucks aren't popular in Japan
it is quite popular in japan but the size is exact opposite of the us pickup truck
Actually yes, but the more compact cabover ones. Some do need them for serious business.
@@skelluripthat would be the kei trucks...Also the only midsize pickups sold in Japan are the Toyota Hilux and coming this year, after 12 years since discontinuation: The Mitsubishi Triton. Both are made in Thailand.
You added sexism in a conversation about global adoption of pickup trucks? Spoken like a true propaganda cult vintage media outlet.
Who cares about European opinions.
Why no Pickup trucks in Europe because of your 27% VAT Tax ....Our last day in EU last month and we are driving behind a farmer - rancher and he is hauling a Horse (tied down) and a Cow in little trailer with his little front wheel drive car spewing nasty disgusting smelling EU diesel fumes !!!
Our family pickup truck Nissan Titan 5.6L Benzine (California Emissions Approved) is cleaner than all your EU Benzine Automobiles ......here in North America we make No distinction between Benzine or Diesel Emissions unlike EU..............
Thailand Vietnam Philippines India full of pickup trucks for people to make money $$$ Toyota Hilux - Ford Ranger - Mitsubishi Strada - Nissan Navara ................So it Goes
Europe has no VAT percentage. Not even the EU. The 27% you mention is the highest and only applies to Hungary.
Hungary 27%
Sweden 25%
Greece 24%
Croatia 25%
Denmark 25 %
Arizona 4%
Florida 6%
Colorado 2.9%
Delaware 0%
Alaska 0%
Montana 0%
New Hampshire 0%
Oregon 0%
@@Robbert_nl
@@tc2425 What’s your point here, that third world countries have low tax rates? You claimed Europe has 27% VAT and that’s just not true. You’re only feeding the prejudice of truck drivers.
@@Robbert_nl Per Google: "The EU's average standard VAT rate is 21 percent, six percentage points higher than the minimum standard VAT rate required by EU regulation." Still high by any means, not clear where all those taxes go.
And your family has self esteem problem, and I wonder how your ancestors managed to become your ancestors.
Men are broken
I drive the smallest class of car that Japan makes, called Kei cars, I'm not broken, my self esteem comes from what I do in life, not what huge 💩 box I drive.
