I grew up with the DS era of Pokémon games, with Diamond being my first experience (I was probably around 8 years old as well) so the sound of the Black and White games are very nostalgic for me as they came out only a few years after my first experience with the franchise. This is my favorite Pokémon track because I can actually recall how shocked I was when I first listened to this theme as a child. Just so much cool stuff here: The way it changes speed so rapidly, the build up leading to the piano breaking. This completely blew my mind as a kid and I was glad to see it aged well after I went back to playing Pokémon years later.

Must’ve put tens of thousands of hours into each of the four games thanks to entralink and medals and challenge mode

I feel this way about X and Y's soundtrack. The theme for Anistar City from the X and Y games is a theme that speaks to me. It makes me feel so alone and I think that's what the music tries to tackle. Loneliness. As well as the ever flowing river that is time.
Think about it. In the song, you start by hearing a heartbeat type of beat. Then comes in this ticking sound, like a clock. As the music gets into its main portion. We hear a fainter heart beat after the the main heartbeat. Almost like a weaker pulse. As the music goes on, the song gets more and more melancholic, untill finally, that fainter heartbeat stops. As the fainter heartbeat stops, the music settles down. All that's left is the main heartbeat, the piano, and that everlasting ticking sound. Finally, the main heartbeat stops along with the final note of the piano echoing out. Even so, the clock keeps going. As time stops for no one.

I may have to disagree. Gen 4 with Diamond/Pearl/Platinum and Heart Gold and Soul Silver is the Golden Age thanks to the wireless network and what that brought over to the game (too bad it's locked under a monthly pay wall at present).
Gen 5 as a whole would have to be the Magnum Opus.

    • @Tengila
      @Tengila 2 года назад +2

@@mcihay246 The debate of which was the better pokemon games between DPP or BW/B2W2 could go on forever and is one I have no real stake in, but gen 4 certainly had the better _spinoff_ games. PMD2 and Ranger 2 were both the best entries in their respective series, and pretty hands down the best pokemon spinoff titles to date. Heck, I might even argue those two are the best pokemon _games_ full stop, even including the main series. In gen 5, the spinoff quality started to go downhill, and they've largely continued on that downward trend since. Gen 5 mainline can quite rightfully be argued to be the better games, but gen 4 as a whole was the better era for the franchise. At least how I see it.

Pokemon music sometimes goes SO HARD for absolutely no reason. Like there are legitimately some tracks that'll go toe-to-toe with the Final Fantasies and the Castlevanias. If you’re willing to follow up this song and see further down the rabbit hole (specifically for Gen 5), I recommend for your pallet:

Speaking of the hardware, Pokémon RBY and GSC were GameBoy (Color), while Ruby Sapphire Emerald and the RG remakes were GBA. Diamond Pearl, Platinum, Black and White were DS, which really had much stronger sampling engines, while still having a bit of a bit crunch to the samples. Starting with X and Y and beyond, those were all 3DS and Switch, and switched to pre-rendered looping audio tracks, no longer being sample sequenced in real time on the hardware.

Despite how the games are received (some are easy, some are boring, etc.), one thing Pokemon does really well thanks to its music is theming. When it comes to fights with legendary pokemons, the elite 4 or the champions, the themes always feel incredibly powerful and fitting for the setting.
The chamipon theme for gen 7 (Sun and Moon), also known as Champion Title Defense I believe, was an absolutely unforgettable experience. Unlike all other champion themes this one is very personal, since

    POKÉMON BW2
    MY BELOVED ❤️
No, seriously: Black/White and Black 2/White 2 are my favorite games in the Pokémon franchise and the soundtrack is one of the best, if not the best in the series in my opinion.
BW/BW2 were very ambitious games - including the soundtracks. So much so, that they were hated by the overall fanbase when they first came out, even if the reasons for that were questionable at best. Today, though, they are being held in high regard and seen as some of the best entries in the Pokémon franchise.
In terms of sound, many typical elements from modern electronic/techno music started to be incorporated here and with the sound identity of the Nintendo DS MIDI Soundfont, the results are mind-boggling.
(For clarification: The Mainline Pokémon games went from GB > GBC > GBA > DS > 3DS > Switch)
But there's a lot more variety than that, even within the BW/BW2 games themselves. N's Castle would probably be my favorite, to name one, and it's not even a battle track.
In short: Yes, Jesse, you've been missing out VERY HARD for VERY LONG - The Pokémon franchise has a near infinite amount of musical goodness to offer and I want to see you explore as much of it as possible!
Very excited for your future Pokémon reactions! veeegy out

So this track plays in game for 2 groups of Legendary Pokemon. One group is The Forces of Nature, which consists of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus, and the other group is the Swords of Justice, which consists of Cobalion, Virizion, and Terrakion. They're way stronger than the average Pokemon, you can think of them as similar to the Legendary birds from Kanto, but they're not on the same level as a Pokemon like Mewtwo. You can encounter them late in your journey.
This is one of my favorite tracks! This series has a lot of bangers but I return to this one specifically a lot. Pokemon Black and White and the sequels have probably my favorite sound track so if you get a recommendation from them I can super duper vouch. If you want a recommendation from a different game too tho, the Kanto Gym leader theme from Pokemon HGSS, and Solgaleo/Lunalas theme from Sun and Moon are my other favorites

this battle theme plays during encounters with the swords of justice (pokémon known as cobalion, terrakion and virizion), the genies (pokémon known as tornadus, thunderus, and landorus) and when fighting victini, the victory pokemon. it was first heard in pokémon black and white (2010/2011) and returned in their sequels, pokémon black 2 and white 2 (2012), both of which game out for the DS (DSi era, into the early 3DS era) as well as a couple other games further down the line. this theme is intense, and every time you hear it, you’re facing an immensely powerful pokémon, very capable of taking you down. personally, i associate it the most with victini, who i wound up naming my cat after. (yes, said cat is still alive; i only call him victini when he’s misbehaving. we mostly call him bean now.)
pokémon has some of the most impactful and amazing soundtracks in any franchise, period, but this is definitely one of its best-throughout all games, including spin-offs. it’s definitely one of my favorites, and it’s the favorite of many, many others. even my grandma, who knows very little about pokémon, was blown away by this track when i played it for her, and she was very excited listening to its changes in tempo. music transcends a lot, generational boundaries included.
i don’t know if you take requests from the comments or exclusively from patreon, but i could recommend lots of different pokémon tracks from SEVERAL different games, but i will recommend another track from black 2 and white 2-VS champion iris, and a track from both games (BW/B2W2), the VS elite four theme.

Gen 4 & 5 music just hit the best to me personally, so glad to see BW2 was requested. This Legendary theme, used for the optional legendary pokemon, is just a bop. The track for the cover legendaries are named after them (Zekrom/Reshiram), so that's the actual endgame tracks though (I believe the difference between the two are crackling lightning for Zekrom and fire sfx for Reshiram's theme).
For my personal Gen5 recommendations I'd say you gotta listen to Hugh's/Rival battle theme, the Pokemon World Tournament Final Battle theme, Black/White Kyurem theme (ALTHOUGH this one might not be fit for a reaction since iirc all version are fucky when it comes to headphones and get worse that way), Colress' battle theme, both battle themes of Ghetsis and the Gym Leader + Last Pokemon theme. Honestly you could just give the entire osts a listen but that might be a bit much for the channel, haha.

This song sounds so intense and I think that's what makes it for everybody. It feels like you're being pursued by an overwhelming, powerful presence that changes reality around you as it stands, and this theme captures that feeling nearly perfectly. The beat drops and speed changes resembling your heart rate, with it slowing down when you think you have everything under control, only for it to pick back up again as that sense of hope you once had slowly diminishes. Astounding work as always Nintendo.

I'm so glad you're gonna be listening to Pokémon music, because by God does every game's soundtrack bang. Pokémon was the first video game I ever played, and I still love it to this day. I would recommend listening to Cynthia's Encounter theme, Cynthia's Battle theme, or Giratina's Battle theme next.

That's one hell of a pick to represent Pokémon for the first time on this channel! Pokémon OSTs rarely if ever disappoint and Generation 5's OST really gives no shit and just goes in super hard for some reason. It's still very much unique among the series in that regard. Looking forward to seeing more Pokémon on here! Cynthia's battle theme is an absolute must, but there's so much more! Even when the games have become more and more disappointing since the golden age of Black/White 2, the OSTs always include tons of great stuff.

The Black and White games(gen5) had the most intense music in the series. I'm so hype for you to listent to more iconic tracks!
Also-! If people could link the evolution of specific tracks as the gens go by that would be dope (example: champion theme from gen1, or red theme evolution)

  • @-Ripica-

Nice to see you enjoyed it! Try listening to "Battle! Colress Theme" , "Champion Cynthia Theme" and "vs Guzma Theme". Pokemon games have their ups and downs so it depends on you what you want to play. Wanna try vanilla, play any original pokemon game. Mainline games too easy/limiting for you, try out some romhacks. Wanna try something different, play pokemon mystery dungeon (yes there's mods for those too if they were too easy/limiting). For a returning player, I suggest trying out original games of Pokemon Platinum, Black / White 1, Ultra Sun / Ultra Moon. These can easily be found either physical or digital (cart or rom) and can be played using emulators.

ik this is old as hell now so u prob wont see this and already know it now, but basically this plays when fighting alot of the legendary pokemon in black2 and white2, and legendary pokemon in the story are basically super powerful (usually mythical beings) pokemon that theres only 1 of in the world
think mewtwo, mew, and the legendary birds (zapdos, articuno, and moltres) from gen 1

Played a TON of Pokémon, fairly certain I played through Red and a ton of the original N64 stuff before I even knew what any of the attacks did (I started young, prolly when I was like 6). Played through BOTH HG/SS (I liked HG and played it far more) but I think Pokémon White 1 is by far one of my favorite games of all time. This song blew me away and I’m fairly certain the Ritardando into Accelerando completely and utterly rearranged my brain and how it processes music. Like these 15 seconds alone shaped my musical taste throughout high school, when I was in Band, and into where I currently am now, which is college.
    Pokemon’s pretty aight.

Out of the Pokemon games I've played it has some of my favorite music, characters, character designs, and pixel art out of all the games. It's probably the nostalgia talking with how much I played it as a kid, but I love this game a lot. Kinda sad I erased my save a while ago tho...

Generation 5 (Pokemon Black & White and Pokemon Black 2 and White 2) has some of the BEST music in the franchise, but honestly, ALL the pokemon games have phenomenal music. Other aspects of the games can fluctuate in quality from game to game, but the music? The music always hits HARD.

    Welp, it's time
Cynthia battle theme (DP, BW, BW2, BDSP)
The theme for the most difficult champion trainer in any Pokemon game, her status is legendary among all who know of her, her little cottage is more terrifying than a bunch of end game locations in other games, and, a neat detail, DP is slow, BW is a bit faster, and BW2 goes even faster with extra instruments, and BDSP is a fantastic remix, listening to any of them is a pleasure
    Arceus theme phases 1-4 (LA)
for context, Arceus is basically Pokemon god, the creator, the alpha, the light of the Pokemon world, in his own game you get to encounter and battle him, and his theme changes based on his health, with the last phase giving the impression of what his presence does alone, and best part, if you see a picture of Arceus, that's not actually him, that's an avatar of his will, and its absurdly powerful, despite not actually being him
Team neo plasma grunt theme (BW2)
Pokemon has its fair share of evil teams, and they all have decent music, BUT, neo team plasma is an absolute BANGER and has no right to be as good as it is, it's for GRUNTS, the lowest ranks of the entire organization!
    Gym leader (SS)
Context, battle in a stadium, just listen to it, trust me
Hope you see this and react, you're cool Jesse

This theme is something totally different made by a genius, pokemon music overall is epic. This is the most intense Pokemon Battle theme out of all the games music and what makes it unique is the sounds used in the song and that the tempo change which is really awesome. This actually could have been the music for battling the main Legendaries
