I accepted The Lord Jesus Christ in to my life in 2020 and I realized he had been tapping on my heart for a few years and sending messengers to sow seeds, Somebody told me to pray for the Lord to fill me with his spirit and help me learn the word. As I'm not a fast reader and struggle to take it in I followed the advice and it has been life changing, I hear the word and then I'll open my Bible and find it's on the same verse that I've just heard on RUclips! Now I ask him to teach me a lesson from the Bible and it happens it's just undeniable. I'm not saying he sits and teaches me but I'll hear and read the same lesson's 2 or 3 times a day "by chance" 🙏 Praise to God!

Jesus is a perfect Being that has been preserved sinless, therefore His book must be a perfect book that has been preserved without error. Dear Bible Project team,
I have been a Christian for 23 years. I know the NT well. But the OT I knew in bits and pieces. In childhood, I learnt stories of Adam & Eve, Israelites' exodus, David & other main stories. But I never saw the binding link between all the books of the OT. I never saw the overall storyline. I just thought of it as collection of stories. I'm unable to express how happy I am to now know that the whole OT is one unified story & all the books complete each other. Thank you so much for this revelation through your efforts. God bless you all abundantly. 😃

Hey guys. How about a video series dedicated to how specific translations came about. Many terms are tossed around these days with little explanation.
IE: Hebrew Masoretic, Greek Septuagiant, Latin Vulgate, Textus Receptus, Deadsea scrolls
Having a better understanding of where the translation came from and what texts where used would help people find a good translation.

    • @micaiahkuhl6973
      @micaiahkuhl6973 4 года назад +42

Great Idea! For a quick fix for anyone reading the comments section, the Hebrew Masoretic is the most commonly studied Hebrew version of the OT, the Greek Septuagint (also known as LXX) is a Greek translation of the OT done by some Jewish scholars a bit before Jesus' day IIRC, the Latin Vulgate was when the Catholic Church translated the whole Bible into Latin because that was what the language of academia was at the time, the Textus Receptus refers to a Greek transcription of the NT that Erasmus did in the 16th century (which would later become foundational for NT translation in Protestantism) and the Dead Sea Scrolls (aka DSS) were some of the most complete collections of the OT (plus a bunch of other stuff) found in the last 200 years and have been instrumental in translation processes and historical research. Hope that clarifies at least those terms until Tim and Jon can do a deep dive!

Excellent recap. To further the explanation I'd also like to add the following notes.
Around 75% of the time the old testament is quoted in the new testament it follows the Greek Septuagiant and not the Hebrew Masoretic. (When there is a difference between the 2).
The GS is from around 280BC while the HM is from around 1100AD.
The DSS is mostly dated to be from 300BC to 70AD.
Latin Vulgate I believe was mostly by one guy (Jerome?) From around 350AD. He started translation from the GS but was convinced it was corrupted by the Jews of the day and swapped over to the HM.
The DSS seem to follow the HM more than the GS.
Hope this helps anyone till a more comprehensive explanation (probably exists somewhere) comes out.

The MT is not as reliable as the LXX and there's reason to believe the MT was intentionally altered. Look those two up if you care about what the actual scripture is. In short, it's better to concentrate on studying biblical Greek for the New AND the Old Testament (Septuaginta).

    • @coopahtroopah1175
      @coopahtroopah1175 4 года назад +7

@@panperl1212 the MT isn’t the only basis for our Hebrew copies, we have earlier manuscripts that are also used for translation. Also the beauty of the Psalms is exponentially greater when one reads them in Hebrew as their actual poetic nature is brought to clarity. Another helpful thing from learning Hebrew is that an understanding of certain Hebrew words helps defend against the Greek misunderstanding of human beings as a “ghost in the shell.” For example, in the shema, which Christ Himself called the greatest commandment, the Hebrew word translated as soul is “nephesh.” The thing is, “nephesh” doesn’t mean “soul,” at least not in the way our understanding as shaped by Greek philosophy is. Nephesh literally means “throat,” and was symbolically used to mean one’s physical life. Thus the original Hebrew understanding of humans as embodied souls (rather than a more gnostic idea of the ghost in the shell) offers a richer understanding behind the greatest commandment to love the Lord our God with all our heart, with all our nephesh, and with all our might. Obviously Greek is important for the New Testament and the Septuagint is important, but my savior was a Hebrew, and I’m sick of the church’s history of forgetting that and harboring antisemitism. I think we all would do better to understand the specifically Jewish context of the entire Bible, which learning Hebrew can be a tremendous help for that.

Before I moved out on my own to a studio, I was blinded by my sins. Being addicted to pornography was one of them. I always believed in Jesus, but I dont think I was truly born again until about 3 years ago. When I moved out on my own, I found a Bible that I had packed. (My family owned many Bibles, but I never really read the Bible growing up). It was a New Living Translation Bible. I began reading and God really spoke to my heart. He convicted me of my sins and taught me how to have a personal relationship with Him. I developed a more prayerful life and a new desire to read His word. I now have a new desire to follow Jesus and surrender everything to Him. Though I slip into sin, the Holy Spirit guides me to ask for forgiveness and to put my eyes back on Jesus. I believe God used the time I spent alone living in my studio to get to really know Him through His word, and the Bible I read was the New Living Translation....I believe God speaks to people in different ways and not just through only one translation.

From what I’ve learned in Bible College, it’s best to primarily read a word for word translation like the NKJV/NASB as your foundation of study. Prioritizing accuracy is the most important. And it’s okay to also read another more dynamic/readable translation like the NLT to gain extra insight. But reading those dynamic translations like the NLT should be secondary and always compared to the Word for Word translations. And remember the Holy Spirit is your teacher and guides you into all Truth! As you read He will teach you and so it’s definitely exciting!

If the song was recorded 100's of times by different artists, each changing the words a little different, that could cause confusion. Again, this is only for witnessing, not studying. @Samuel Jennings I'm also a fan of the NKJV. It preserves the poetics of the original, but has available to it the best ancient texts. And it's in more readable modern English without in any fashion dumbing down the text for the reader the way some translations do.
Still, the NASB and the ESV are both good translations, and I second the author's of the video that barring learning the original Greek and Latin, reading multiple translations is the best way to get at the original text.

This bible is very special for me as Lincoln has always been a personal hero, Obama was the first President I watched get sworn in, and Trump was the first President I ever voted for. I usually don't use this bible for reading unless it's a special occasion. It took me years to find this one.

Kjv and kjv 1611 I was taught as a kid to get used to the speech type and learn word for word and learn how to research, my mom taught us much in a school teacher type method, later on though she eased up a bit and we got easier translations for thought for thought to remember quotes better and how to conversate about it to (most of the time) believers or non believers not really used to scholarly words and editions of the Bible, I learned myself of concordances as a teen and at the end of my teenage years God helped me learn the original languages and last year I've got into the esoteric layers and the diacritics and such and grammar.
I'm 23 so still a pretty good progression for a young man as I am, but I understand I've had 2+ decades of this and most people unless they are much older and came to the faith around my age or lower as is usually the case probably aren't going to be as familiar with the details like themes and grammar and language and old English, makes it a bit hard to conversate with people my age in these topics sometimes but at least I know I can lead them to something to study more when I meet them most of the time and they can remind me to stay down to earth a bit with how I explain things and not go too deep too soon.
Typically though I like NLT, KJV or KJV1611, Interlinear Hebrew-Aramaic and Koine Greek in one book, and an ESV, ESV is to help me communicate effectively to modern English speakers, KJVs is to help me study on how to understand from my modern cultural upbringing from the older father English culture I am familiar with language wise as a mother tongue, and the Interlinear to help me understand how the readers and writers understood things from specifics to generalities.
I always like pictures and stuff too though so I like the action Bible and channels like these with visuals when I want a more audio or comic book format.

During my schooling, I have learned and developed a method that I use, in which I read one translation as my main translation (personally, I most prefer the New International Version), then I’ll compare passages to the same passages that are in other translations, writing out the similarities and differences (though, there are rarely any true differences, but simply different ways of translating the same thing). This is just how I have personally learned to study the Bible.

Why breadcrumbs? We are not beggars, but beloved children of God (1 John 3:1) who has "blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ". That's the picture Paul gives in Ephesians 1:3-14." God has "poured his love into our hearts" through the Holy Spirit. (Romans 5:5). This Spirit is the one who now enables us to "keep the righteous requirements of the law" (Romans 8:4, Hebrews 8:8-12). Also, we have the gospel which is "the power of God for salvation" (Romans 1:12).
I agree that as we continue to "let the word of Christ dwell among you richly" through teaching, and singing songs, hymns and spiritual songs,( Colossians 3:16) we are being built up. But we are not beggars. That may seem piously humble to say, but we are beloved children at his banqueting table, enjoyed a lavish feast!

But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

I was just reading John 16 today and praise be to God that Jesus said this to His disciples. I pray that you find strength and comfort in Jesus' own words:
"These things I have spoken to you, *that in Me you may have peace.* In the world you will have tribulation; *but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world* ." (John 16:33)
Jesus did not promise that we will not face tribulations or persecutions in this world for His sake, but He did promise (as above in John 16:33) that in Him you'll have peace, and that you can be of good cheer even in the face of tribulations because He has overcome the world!
1 John 4:4 also says, "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world."
Praise God that He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world! Whatever antichrist or evil forces that might be working against you cannot stand against He who is in you! (see also Ephesians 1:20-23 to behold our dear Lord and Saviour, who is now risen and glorified, victorious over all principalities and powers! And you, beloved child of God, are _in Him_ today. If God is for you, who can he against you? [Romans 8:31])
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: 'For Your sake we are killed all day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.' *Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.* For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels *nor principalities nor powers,* nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:35-39)
Praise be to Jesus forevermore! I pray the Father in Jesus' name that this ministry of His Word and His Holy Spirit, the Comforter, work mightily in your life against these spiritual attacks that He be glorified and that His work in you and through you shall not be hindered anymore. Amen!
