Yo, what about us boomers looking to improve like that! I started playing in Mid-December and have put in 350 hours. I bought the game years ago but only played less than 10 hours and I didn’t play until my son got me to play. I hover between Plat3/Diamond1 and have grinded on and off the pitch (lots of content and freeplay/packs) but these kinds of programs sound great! Just wish they would help boomers like me too (27).

If you shut your eyes and just listen, it sounds like an inspirational gaming speech that can be used for every game.
How about life?
I've always been on the "have fun" philosophy for this game, but I'm definitely guilty of getting furious and having to walk away after a few losses because "my teammates suck."
Seriously, thank you for the attitude check and positive mindset!
I used to sink down to Plat II regularly, but I'm consistently Diamond I now!
Across the board at that! (Yes, this even worked for 1s in my case.)
I never understood the "having fun" argument. How can someone have fun throwing, idleing, afking, abandoning, smurfing??.... and how can someone on the other end of it have fun?
Ok, u can be bad and be trying to have fun but to some degree, if u a plat, diamond, or above u have certainly a good amount of hours in the game, u definitely don't just play for "fun" and u are expected a certain level. So whiffing 4 balls in a row, not having a clue about rotations or being in plat/diamond and still defending from inside the goal is just a bit sad.
@@brunolopes2205Projection is wild. Some people just want fun, it's not that deep.
Majority Of My Games Are With Randoms So This Was Really Useful. Good Video :)
you deserve a much higher sub count man.... always explaining everything SO well... even when I know this because everyone says it, I always find something new or explained differently and go away with new, useful knowledge. Thank you!
Nice Tutorial, but when I wanna try it. It doesnt work because they're pushing me everytime, or hit the ball faster than me and missing it when I would score. My teammates are pushers, and stealers. How to deal with them?
Also remember that they are the same rank as you and just because they wiffed two balls in a row doesn't mean they are terrible. They could just be having a bad game, lagging or warming up. Flaming them in quick chat will only make things worse
I remember playing with a random who flamed me for a mistake that was ultimately his and led to a 1v3 with me on defense. Played like shit the entire game and carried every game afterwards for the next hour or so…Shit like that messes up the game for everyone. You can complain about your teammates but in rank just dont type it out. Also at one point, enemy team spammed what a save on the first goal they got not even a minute in. We said nothing, I shit you not, not even ten seconds later beautiful pass and play (forgot whether i passed or shot) into their goal and they stfu, satisfying af.
Depends on the whiff but if u whiff 2 super ez, low height balls and we get scored on twice then I don't think there is an excuse

So I played goalie in IRL soccer up through college, alot of which I attest to me minorly blaming myself for every goal that was scored on me in every game I played. Even if my own teammate fired it directly at me from a few feet away, I'd get up and think Yea if I snapped my head around faster and had my hands in a better place and was a little more crouched I could've reacted to that. It made me a tremendously better keeper. My point being that what virge says from like 4:30 - 4:50 is something every single competitor should think about. Don't get too down on yourself but try to problem solve every single goal, no matter how unlucky, sincerely ask yourself, "what could I have done to make that save" It will also help make those easy saves that much easier. Great video and great advice.👍🙌
I think this is definitely true in a lot of ways. The main point I will say should be emphasized more in adjusting to your teammate. There are a ton of bad teammates, but only a few different types. If you’re playing with a ball chaser, play more passive, yes you will watch him miss open nets or take your boost or be constantly taking your hit, but it teaches you how to be aware of where your teammate is at all times. If your teammate is way too passive and sits in net while you’re attacking, go for passes less, ball chase a tad bit more (but don’t overdo it), and challenge early so you can get back if your teammate messes up. And if your teammate is toxic because you’re trying to adjust to them (such as if the ball chaser gets on you about not being in position for his “perfect” center after he’s only tried to score all game) then they’re the ones that need to really look at their play style. And honestly, just stay silent and play the game because you know that you’re making the right decisions based on your teammates play style
Even when it was clearly not my fault if we get scored on or miss a goal, I always try to find something I could've done better like make a better pass or play better defense or rotating faster etc.
How do you deal with teammates just crashing into you, hitting the ball off your car, banging the ball sidewall in defense directly to opponent, when you had easy control, straight up own goaling, taking corner AND mid boost, etc.? I find it pretty easy to find mistakes in my play, I make tons and I don't get angry when mate misses a shot, a save or even the ball, but what instantly kills my will to play are the above mentioned. You'd think you could escape it, because those are obvious rookie mistakes you should have gotten rid of after your first couple hours of the game, but you can't. You'll deal with that up to c3 and I don't have any reason to assume it will stop after that, because every time I rank up and think it's over, I get proven wrong.
@@thecakeredux lmao you probably make some of those mistakes too, but your eyes are glued to your tm for the whole game, just focus on you until youre good enough to carry the bronzes you speak of.
@@jazduh1235 My eyes aren't "glued" to my teammates. It's just that those obvious mistakes are sticking out a lot, they speak of a fundamental lack of understanding of how the game - or any sport, really - works. But yeah, the key is to become so much better that it doesn't matter. At some point though I'd like to just sit back and enjoy quality RL, something that should easily be possible at c3. Without a team though, that's rarely happening for the reasons above.
@@thecakeredux those same mistakes happen in 1650+ lobbies. I wanted to believe that it's possible to solo que at this rank but that's not the case, every time I play solo I go on a losing streak but as soon as I get a teammate that's decent it's an easy win usually.
@@unearthlynarratives_ I don't get it. Those mistakes are just so low IQ it's hard to make sense of people in sixteen hundred, so presumable above 2k hours in the game, to have the game sense of a plat.
"We can't change our teammates."
Let's reinterpret it. "We can't change the matchmaking system." Now we know where the root of the problem is.
Completely agreeeeeee. I should improve yes, but why did the game put an awefully skilled teammate in this rank if his skills and game sense is way way way way below this rank? Why do I have to face a full stacked team of people in the same club chatting in discord, skilled, know how to communicate and then the game put me to play against them next to me a guys who suffers to kick the ball and barely knows how to steer his car. thats not fair. this game went to the drain when it went free to play.
The tip where you say that you should blame yourself for your mistakes is something I've always been doing. It indeed makes me take responsibility of how the game will play out, even if I have to be a savior and clutch every game for my team. Playing smart is key 🙌🏽
I see people still comment on this video. If you were looking at the ad about esports tower, I just wanted to share my experience at my first 4-5 months there.
If you don't know anything about it, the basic things you should know is there are divisions in the program depending on your rank (mainly 3s) and you will have a coach for your group. There are bi-weekly tournaments within the people in the program that you can compete in with a team for credits (have to be in the server and are a high schooler).
The other people getting coached are chill and the coaches are cool and have a sense of humor. So id say its a nice place to be to get coached.
Now there is a lan for it that I'm trying to play in so hopefully I do good.
Not trying to explain everything so you can see for yourself but overall I had fun so far in the program so you should check it out!
Just what my teammate needs
Thanks!
Hard to swallow pill: if u can’t climb with randoms then ur in the perfect rank
It's funny how much people in lower ranks call the ranking system broken, you rarely hear it higher up
That's just false, my last two teammates in 2s missed a rolling open net and drove around the ball and we lost both of those games because of those mistakes and that's in 1650. And trust me people in higher ranks always complain about it. Pethy was struggling to carry and win games in 1600 lobbies and he's SSL with insane mechanics so by your logic he deserves to be 1600?
@@unearthlynarratives_ Interesting, I'll note that down in the list of excuses that people give themselves.
@@nodidog Go on bud, I'm sure you're an insane player and you don't even need teammates to win games!
@@unearthlynarratives_ i think he means that it evens out. That guy having a terrible day and blowing open nets will be on the other team tomorrow. LIke poker, there is luck involved in a specific game, but over time skill will just barely overcome the luck part. So if you stay on track and play the right way you will win more than you lose.
Needed to hear this. I try to be positive but some times I just feel toxic. Thanks to all the bros who chose patience and compassion.
I don't play RL but my son got the game last year and I love watching him play, in fact any game, so I take a big interest in it. I have watched about 30 tips videos and this one is BY FAR the best. I'm also an I.T. analyst with Psychology in my degree and I can tell from what I know about RL and from your presentation, this video is extremely skillfully done both from a psychological POV as well as your presentation and what you focus on. It sums up the weak team mate problem PERFECTLY, and gives the best solutions. In fact, everything you've said here is what I have been thinking. (I even told my son last month - who already covers his teammates a lot, though does go forward now and then even with weak ones - that if he trained to shoot accurately, especially from range, it'd be a massive help.)
Love this! So cool to see parents take an interest in their children’s gaming hobbies. I’m sure he appreciates it more than you might know!
@@Virge Thanks!
This is actually how I fast tracked my way out of diamond and into gc found myself at the start diamond 2 as i took a break it was difficult but I just played defense and set up my teammates with passes and prayed that they would score and if they didn't it's just an oh well try again. And then...champ 3 it's a terrifying place i didn't want to deal with it so I queued with a friend and boom gc ez clap now im gc2 i drive a porsche 911 have like 100 females and am a hardcore gaming god. Seriously tho good advice virge and it's the best way to play this game.
Diamond is probably the worst to get out of. If you play passive, your teammates outplay you on defense, but if you play aggressive, you get scored on any time you don't convert. It's easier to just find someone who won't throw, tell them to not touch the ball, and just carry them out playing 1v2. Seriously.
I play 1s so I can't blame tm. Forcing me to find what I messed up on.
Hell no.
They whiff about 60 times in 4 minutes and then I whiff once and bam
"What a save what a save what a save"
And then leaves the game
Yeah but its your fault fix it. Fix your dumb mindless team mates by sacrificing all your fun and playing down to their crap play. THIS IS ROCKET LEAGUE!!
As someone with terrible net who is frequently considered the bad teammate because my skills vary wildly day to day there is nothing worse than a skilled teammate who is all about their own dribbles and freestyle aerials. I never have an idea what they are after or what they are doing or when I am actually supposed to try doing something and when I finally do think there is an opening it ends in a collision or a whiff 96% of the time. If they would play just a little more reactive rather than their own game we could be an amazing team so this is a great vid.
Just play 1’s it gets rid of all the bad teammates
But then I get stuck with the worst player there on my team

Remember to not blame teammates - they are on the other team as well! Remember to develop your powershots, clears, backwall defence and shots as well as improving on boost management. Gold was quite frankly one of the toughest ranks for me to get out of but those tips definitely helped me!

This helped me so much in 2s and 3s, where each of them I ranked up from c1 to c2-c3. Thanks man.
Its all fun and games when you bout to save it then your teammate bumps you out of the way.
you are close to the goal with the ball on your car, the opponents are still rotating back to goal, you're about to flick it in to the open net and then boom! your teammate takes it off you, hitting it into the corner as hard as possible
what do i do if i have 6 goals, 8 saves and 7 shots. and my teamamte has 0 goals 0 assists 0 saves and 1 shot.
Be proud of your gained experience and win the next matches :p
Or you can just scream YEET whenever you shoot. Use the Arsenal mentality
I yell SEND IIIIIIT in my head every time I make a challenge.
One thing that helps : sometimes you feel your teammate is so bad it's impossible to win.
But that's not true, look at Lethamyr on an over 100 game win streak currently in champ.
Yes that's an extreme example, but the point is you can always be better.
Keeping that in mind helps me.
So lets say im playing basketball 2v2 againts 2 people that are slightly bigger than me and my teammate is a 2 year old tolder, im ganna say "its impossible to win with this teammate", but its actually not impossible cus micheal jordan can win with a 2 year old todler. Additional tips to not lose morale in your team:
> If they're making mistakes, own up to your own mistakes in the chat and laugh about it. If you're that useless teammate then roast yourself by typing "What a Save!" into the chat when you let a goal in.
> Type fun things into the chat like 'peepeepoopoo' - almost always gets a good response and no matter the outcome of the game, people are chill.
> It's just a game. Get angry about real shit like tax and work and governments. If you're the one getting pissed then you're the only one who has lost.
I went on the WORST losing streak I've ever gone on in RL this month. I went from c2 to d1. And ill flat out admit I blamed me teammates alot of the time sure I admitted when I had a bad game and said things like I suck and stuff like that... but this video is amazing cuz he's right if your not helping your teammates out or trying to cover their weaknesses while helping boost their strengths they probably think you suck also. I am SLOWLY climbing back up the ladder finally got back to d3 div 4 last night and called it a night at like 3 am after work. Yet again virge great vid!
It’s not that my tm8s are bad mechanically they are just really dumb
I get your point about trying to be positive and looking inward rather than your horrible teammate because you can actually control what you do but you can’t control what ur teammates do. BUT it would be a lie to say that there are teammates out there that actually are impossible to win with. While I’m not gonna flame them for being horrible, I’m not gonna skip the replay, maybe they’ll learn if they watch how bad they play
Me: octane, dark blue and dark red for both teams, black stripes and oem.
My teammates: hotshot, hat, trash wheels and everything
Thanks for uploading this! This advice is usually buried in longer videos. Thanks for keeping it concise
I’m gc 1 and I like to play with my dad who is platinum so I needed this video. I think this is going to help me a decent bit in carrying him to more wins. Great vid!
the times that i get tilted at teammates in plat is when they have the ball and proceed to give the other team a dime pass that i wouldnt in a million years be ready for. or own goals man those just hurt my soul.
Same thing as the rotation guide vid… soo much comes back to you
you are the only person on yt whose intro can never be skipped
I've found that letting them carry you can also be a good way to win. If you watch my videos, you'll notice I play extremely passive in 3v3. (shameless plug lmao) This is because of of 3 things.
1. My teammates are randoms. I don't know what they are capable of. Thus, it is safest to let them play how they are going to play.
2. By being more passive I have time to set up or receive passes. This time also lets me be more aware of where I am on my pad paths.
3. By playing back and letting them do what they do best, I can pick up the pieces and take opportunities that I wouldn't get by going full send for an entire match.
This is perfect for
Console: Plats
PC: Champs
Nitendo: Silver
Really glad you're back to uploading man!
The thing that bothers me most about teammates is that I can't communicate when they should be in the play. When I'm in a match with a player that wasn't close enough to play after multiple passes it's when I start getting annoyed. Too many people go back to get big boost and leave the play even though their teammate may have possession.
In fact, you are the reason I have gotten better, by staying in the play long enough for my teammates to create opportunities for a shot in goal. Great content as always, keep it up!
there is a big problem, many only play for themselves and don't pay attention to what their teammates are doing.
i pass a lot when i see the gap and most of them don't understand that despite the chat, some have no eye for the game.
As someone who is still pretty new to RL, (I have like 200 hours, but a decent portion of that time is afk in the menu) and have recently thought about this kinda stuff for carrying in 2s ranked prior to seeing this video. I actually am surprised I caught some of these examples in the video and it helped me tremendously to the point that I started off at plat 1 div 2 and am about 1 or 2 more games away from diamond 1 div 1. I had like 2 approximately 7 game winstreaks in a row and found it to be consistent in most scenarios. The one nice thing I know is that in at least mid Platinum elo I can have some decent confidence in my teammate to know how to block some goals, which allows me to help put constant pressure with my teammate on the enemy at their goal via rotations and constant challenges on the ball. I like putting the enemy in that scenario as I know how it feels to be on defense the whole time with constant pressure and know that I either have to do a hard clear on the ball or will slip up eventually. It's been fun and I am surprised at how fast I'm learning this game (I came from playing in LOL high elo, so that helps a bit). Now I am looking at challenging my friend to a race to see who can hit champion 1 first as I feel confident I can get to that rank comfortably with my current mechanically skills, but I would def say GC+ isn't in the realm of possibility yet.
As a solo q warrior I agree with the comment about being toxic makes you or your teammates play worse.
I play so much better if I get a “no problem” after a mistake instead of “bruh”. 😄
I try to give out a “no problem” when a tm8 makes a bad play. No matter how bad. It helps me so I try to suck it up and return the favor. 😉
I laughed so hard when predicted joreuz about the double flipreset xD
thank you, I play on 180 ping constantly and always thought that if my teammates weren't able to do what I do they are trash, now I think that they are not experienced and they need help.
I get his point but the point of a TEAM is not for u to save everything like u and ur teammate have to both make shots and saves have each other’s back
I’m platinum in 2s… and I was silver in threes not long ago… lost like 20/25 games… I acknowledge that it’s not always bad teammates… but sometimes it is. The best are the ones who are toxic in the chat but only have like 30 points. They’re not even touching the ball.
im gonna document my games today to see how much my teammates do
game 1: my points: 314 goals: 2 teammate1: 126 points goals: 0 teammate2: 94 points goals: 0

Bruuh, i messed up one game and now im getting qued up with plats, i hope this video help’s me
I just feel like I can play so much better but sometimes I just feel like I'm in a bad lobby, but I've been in the same lobbies for like 2 years. Rocket league just becomes so frustrating when I can't rank up, so that defaults me to blame my teammates. I've played with d2s and d3s and I fit in so well, I could keep up so well, I just feel like I'm stuck at plat 1 because of my teammates.
I mostly play 1v1 (yes, I'm that kind of psycho) but my main gripe with teammates in 2v2 and 3v3 isn't even teammates not rotating back for defense (what is this back post?) or missing shots or saves but mostly that they do both the aforementioned *and* will take *every* opportunity to steal away the ball when it's in my possession like we're in a Bronze match for some reason and *then* proceed to pass it directly to an opponent - who shoots at the resulting open net... only for said teammate to start raging that I didn't make the save. That's the kind of stuff that makes me say ''Yeah... I'll take some brutal SM-style punishment in ones over this.'' This is only at plat3/d1 level for all three game modes as that's where I obviously belong with my own inconsistencies ;p
I literally get teammates on a consistent basis that score on the wrong goal and all they do is say “Sorry” as they continue to hit the ball in the opposite direction.
Nobody plays defense either😂
This is great advice but it doesn't change the fact that once I started solo queueing 3's (instead of with my friends) I dropped from high plat 2 to gold 3, meanwhile I am steadily approaching diamond solo queueing in 2's. I just can't catch a break in 3's and its clear to me its not my fault. I've just accepted the fact that I'm going to have to be way better than my current rank to carry in 3's if I want to rank up (which is unfair but I guess itll help me in the long run) My problem always is if I play more passively the opponent rarely scores but my team never does either, and if I play more offensively I can get scores but then they score more because no one ever rotates. Which honestly boggles my mind that no one rotates properly in plat 3's. Like how tf did these ppl get this far ball chasing? But regardless, I think the biggest take away here is for me to work on my accuracy. I think if I can score more open nets instead of setting up plays off them (that my team is never in position or capable or capitalizing on) then I can start winning more.
This all makes sense but what do you do when your skill level is high Diamond/low Champ but are stuck playing with mid to high Plat? I feel like I'm playing with a Diamond mentality and my teammates just can't adapt. I expect to be playing with a logical teammate who makes logical plays, but all I get are dudes who don't understand the basics of rotations and that really pisses me off. For example, in a 2v2 when my teammate just made a play and is all out of boost, the logical thing for me to think is okay, he should be rotating back away from the ball so I can move up and make a play...but NOOOOOOOOOO he's going to go attack again with literally no boost which then puts me out of position giving the opponents an open net to score on. This game is getting really tilting.
OR what's even worse is, in a 2v2, when I'm making a play in the opponents corner, my teammate should be spread out in center field waiting for a possible pass or to go back to defend the net...but NOOOOOOOOOOO he's going to also come in the same corner not only leaving our net open, but missing an opportunity to score when I make a pass. Honestly, I'm stuck playing in a rank I should not be in.
I'm Plat 2 in 2v2's but I've been stuck floating around in Gold in 3v3's. What's been destroying my MMR even more than shitty tm8's is smurfs. My god, I'll ask them their rank after they "What a save!" me or something only to find out they're like Champ 1 in Gold. That's like a high schooler in Sophomore year bullying a 5th grader. And what can you do except take it or forfeit? I run in to them WAY more often than you'd believe. It's driving me crazy.
A really, really well made video. I never really realised I made the mistakes you talk about in the video, and you describe it in such a clear and easy to understand way. I might end up watching this every time I'm struggling in-game. Thank you!
Bad teammates are a part of life but I don't know what to expect of a teammate who straight up own goals saying he's falling back to bronze.
I'm well aware of the fact I can't make my tm8s better. I just focus on my own progress. It helps.
You can't best thing you can do is just insta leave when you get him the next match and take the 5 min penalty.
Haven't seen a Virge video in a while.
Man, you still have the sickest intro in all of RL YT!
no lethamyr does but Virge is a good second.
@@just4that129 I respect your detailed constructive comment. But Nope.
Lethamyr only has a good song clip for his intro. That's it. But even saying that is a consolation.
Because it cuts off short and the only thing you could do is fade it away because the clip was made for an entirely different purpose, so it doesn't come as cohesive for the next part of the video. The cringiest part is the bright sound before the fadeaway. That was totally unnecessary. It just made the experience of the rhythmic beat of the song clip end ugly. Like having a great relationship with a bad breakup.
While Virge's, on the other hand, has it all. A lot of video elemental notes that were hit perfectly + Audio. The audio is obviously made specifically for an intro vid so it's just plain and simply clean with a flare.
Let's just agree to disagree.
@@noiJadisCailleach i like how detailed you made your explanation and i would say Virge does have the better intro but idk i just like leths more so for me this is an opinion thing but yes agree virge is the best also i know this has nothing to do with intros but leths video quality is great and so satisfying to watch but i like both of them equally on youtube and like i said for youtube intros in general virge is the best but to me i really like leths so lets agree to agree.
1:45 He solved the mystery of rocket league lol.
the rasta music is cheeky good, i'm bad at rocket league, thank you Virge
Bro everyone needs to here this
I’m not lying when I say this video got me from a gold 1 in 2s to a platinum 3 division 2 in 3s. So I thank you for that
Borge: blame yourself for everything
Teammates: literally own goals on a solo play in overtime
My Fav TM8's are the ones who say Defending!!!! Then are already at MID Pitch. Loose Position and GOAL!!! What A Save!!!!! BUMPED by (TM8) as Im Clearing or saving the shot.. Great "D" Tm8's
Most common mistake?: Playing normally and thinking ur teammates could do the things u do and having THEM adapt to u instead of U adapting to them. Also, challenging when u would with ok teammates that can cover it up/save/not whiff, but with bad teammates, u do the same thing and then they whiff or not save it. So basically, you stay behind ur teammates and cover up what they can’t do. Is that what anyone else does?
I’m stuck in plat 2 and keep going down to plat 1. Thanks for giving me a new perspective
I play the back half of the field most of the time. It's pretty easy to do. Most people want time on the ball. I just want my team to win.
finally a good youtube video, im plat 1 and i cant move up at all because I get AASSSS teammates bro, they legit cant ariel, they dont know positioning, they play like bronze 3's

"Blame yourself for everything"
Yeah as a Champ I should have known my gold teammate was gonna try his first arial and pass right to the opponent on the goal line as last back. On me for not having the ability to teleport and save it. And yeah when my teammate starts throwing on purpose because I didn't say thanks to his 'Nice shot!' that's on me for not thinking this was a team game. Also on me for not being able to save the ball when my teammate own goals. I should have used my psychic powers to take control of his mind. AFK teammate? Not a problem, on me, I should have used my clairvoyance powers to know little Timmy had dinner time. Silly me for not already being SSL. I just need to hard carry and 1v2/3 every game as If I'm not used to training with decent players on a daily basis. MY FAULT. ON ME.
You've helped me a lot Virge but this doesn't work and just tilts me more when playing. In some situations of course I could have played better and I constantly save and rewatch my replays. But just blaming myself for actual bronze mistakes on my teammates behalf is ignoring the problem.
Everyone wants be a hero and play striker. Defend properly and score breakaways - you will win basically everything.
how my ranked matches usually go in plat 3v3: my 2 teammates ballchasing the whole game and spamming what a save! Wow! Great pass!
I can’t help it but be toxic… like people make the same mistakes, miss open goal, hit the ball to the side when you’re about to score…
Now the opposite pov would be awesome for a future video! What can you do when you realize you suck and your mate has to carry you? This is no joke, sometimes you just play bad and it would be good to know what can be done to get better right away or how to support a potential teammate carry
« You need to be better not complain » T8 proceeds to miss 3 open nets in the same game. Im not even joking
