    Actually Geralts slow movements are something that he does on purpose. As mutant he is much, MUCH quicker than avarage human so he does this to hide his ability from enemies and to prevent people from exluding him in situations like contract taking or just gaining info. I just want to add the fun fact that Henry moves slow acting as Geralt because, as said by him and also as a reference to the books, Geralt is usually on high alert and doesn't want others to know how fast he can actually move thanks to mutation or alchemical stuff. Which actually makes sense for someone who usually has to fight and doesn't know if any normal person could eventually be an enemy.

    The peacock’s huge tail does protect it. I’ve seen predators try to get them and they always end up with a mouthful of huge feathers. During nesting season, the males will deliberately scream at the slightest disturbance in order to draw any predators away from the plain looking female on the nest. Their huge bright tail also helps with this diversion.

      @hrvad 3 года назад +21

      Flexibility is important, because you have to adapt to the situation you're in. As such you should never be dominant (or submissive) all of the time.
      For example, if you're attending a meeting there's no point in posturing and dominating the room when someone else in on as speaker and you're supposed to listen. However, when it's your turn to present as per the agenda, by all means step into your dominance.
      Any sane person will shift in and out of dominance and submission during the day as each moment requires.
      When it comes to seduction the statistically sound strategy to put forth as a fairly normal man is to step into dominance, because *most* women like a confident, dominant man.
      Turning your back on someone like Geralt does is more than confidence, which is why I call it dominance. Sometimes a less than optimal approach with your boss :)

      What is the peacock theory?
      Why does the peacock have such a beautiful tail? Darwin's theory of sexual selection says that nature's extravagances -- like the peacock's tail -- are advantages in the mating game.
      Darwin later said...“The sight of a feather in a peacock's tail, whenever I gaze at it, makes me sick!” wrote Charles Darwin in 1860, just a year after the publication of The Origin of Species.
      The intense detail is not at all necessary for mating, and his theory had no reasons why, it was that way.

    I recently had a confrontation at work with someone who considers themselves important in the area. Since I have no intention of getting into physical fights at this job, I simply approached him and took a relaxed posture (leaning on the counter) and never raised my voice above conversational tone and volume. I maintained direct eye contact, deflected all verbal attempts at provocation, and seemed practically dismissive. He considered himself someone to be feared/respected and in me, he found someone who calmly and solidly challenged him. The attention of all this has been interesting, as he has never followed up on his words and has had conversations with multiple people who told him he was essentially in the wrong. He's still mad, but won't do anything about it, so far.

    some NOTES here
    1. SLOW, LANGUID MOVEMENTS: When you move slowly & comfortably you sub communicates to other people that you do not feel scared & pressured. That is perceived as confidence. Move at a pace that is self determined than environment determined.
    2. BE COMFORTABLE TURNING BACK ON OTHERS: The person who ends the conversation & walks away usually the one with more power in a given situation. But don’t be like Geralt in this situation, for eg when someone enters a room you could turn & wave but better is to stand up head on & hand shake.
    3. CONFIDENT PEOPLE CAN AFFORD TO HANDICAP THEMSELVES: You can do this by being more honest especially where you think it might set you back socially for eg if you have a nerdy hobby that you think other people might judge, often better off speaking about it with enthusiasm rather than downplaying it.
    4. EXTREME NON-REACTIVE: When we notice that people who are resilient & their calmness are not easily feared we view them as more confident & capable. Whatever is coming at them that they can handle. firmly build up an internal calm so you are not always in constant reaction to the world.
    As always my crazy passion is to share summaries like started doing it on my channel with PDF summaries ✌
    People say to me more often that I am slow in reacting to anything. Does that mean I am like Geralt? 😜

    Great video! My *summary* of the 4 ways Geralt of Rivia demonstrates confidence:
    1. Geralt has slow, languid movements.
    ○ Deep confidence is about being able to move at a pace that is self-determined rather than environmentally determined
    ○ Animal kingdom analogy
    ○ Predator movements = slow and languid; nothing to be afraid of; comfortably energized
    □ If you get too lethargic, energize yourself with a stretch or quick breaths
    ○ Prey movements = herky-jerky; in constant anticipation of danger
    □ If this happens, take a deep breath and open your body language to slow down
    2. Geralt is very comfortable turning his back on others.
    a. Animal kingdom: sign that something is unthreatening / unimportant
    i. Only predators can afford that
    b. Caution: That will make the other person feel unimportant (to you)!
    3. Confident people can afford to handicap themselves. ("Handicap principle")
    a. Animal example: male peacock's feathers -> no other purpose than look sexy
    b. Example: Say something that might hurt your reputation -> ppl assume you must be strong enough not to need people to like you -> you come across as confident & more likeable
    c. How to implement that in everday life? Be less socially calculating and instead more honest in your self-expression, e. g. about your geeky hobbies.
    4. Geralt is extremely non-reactive
    a. The ability to have a sturdy/resilient emotional center = key creator/indicator of confidence
    b. Low reactivity signifies you can handle whatever (stressor, problem etc.) life throws at you
    c. Animal kingdom: strong emotional mastery can trump physical strength in dominance battles
    d. It's important to recognize your specific emotional triggers; make a list proactively
    e. However, that doesn't mean swallowing your emotions; have the courage to be vulnerabe
    • What you want is unshakable deep confidence -> the rest (body language etc.) will follow naturally

    Geralt actually has a lore reason to move in small very pronounced movements. When a Witcher takes potions, his speed may even double to his normal dancing swordplay. Therefor, he's trying to make it normal that people can see him move slowly. Obviously Geralt's faster then this, but it is very much something he does.

    The deep breathing whenever anxiety starts to rev up really is a game changer, whenever I’m in a situation that trigger it, I always take a deep breath, and make an effort to do the opposite of what my anxiety wants - I speak and move slowly and goal oriented, keep my language simple and to the point, I lower the pitch of my voice. I have no problem with people seeing that I’m affected by the situation and that my demeanor change, but slowing down usually resets things, and builds a foundation for an anxiety free interaction from that point on! I’ve also found simply asking myself “why?” can snap me out of negative thought spirals:)

    I have to disagree with the peacock feathers, I used to breed peacocks as a kid and the feathers are more of a survival trait than a seduction trait. They put up their feathers to appear larger and scare off predators. Even the females are perfectly able to put up their tails in the same manner even though it is very short.
    Observed this with my dogs, breeding is only once a year and the rest of the year it is a survival tool, that is very effective.

    • @gnarthdarkanen7464
      @gnarthdarkanen7464 4 года назад +8

      Meditation can certainly help... BUT there's a lot to be said about what you focus meditation upon, while ridding your mind of "useless monkey chatter". There's a point where embracing an emptiness has to be replaced with refined focus and rumination, or you short-change yourself for the benefits you could experience.
      There's also more benefits from a practiced meditation, rather than simply quiet meditation. Practices like Yoga, or Tai Chi will enhance your balance and coordination while you meditate, making the slowed deliberate motions more natural to your body and easier to carry on naturally, too.
      It is a kind of pity, that a lot of people aren't even aware that Tai Chi and Yoga were meant as a form of meditation practice... not just a series of stretches and "old people's martial arts" exercise... BUT such is life. AND no, you don't necessarily have to work through the prescribed sets according to one or another school... Simply adopting the philosophy and finding your own way can be a benefit. Obviously, if it's available to you, getting some direction (from a qualified teacher) has it's own benefits. I wouldn't discourage it. At the same time, "you gotta start somewhere". ;o)

    *I’m 6ft5 and 380lbs; and spent most of my life “shrinking myself and voice” because people think I’m arrogant for taking up space or because of my deep voice.* I’m a kind and considerate person, but definitely an “alpha male” and I always felt conflicted whether to be myself (ie talk normally - which I’ve been told my voice is intimidating because it’s deep and to sit normally which takes up space because I’m so big), or to be more respectful and try to minimise my space because of my size. *I feel so much better just being myself and not going out of my way to seem less “threatening” towards people because I’m not.*

    • @atmosrepair
      @atmosrepair 11 месяцев назад

      Even if you try to minimize yourself, you are still the same as you were. Even if you pull yourself back, doesn't mean others won't still have their own insecurities, that's out of your control. So considering these things, just be your self and take up as much space as you need, speak in the way you prefer, and the others will have to work on their own issues.
