      Mo Ya Most likely because it's cute. Like I don't have a goddamn clue what he's saying, but it sounds twice as cute as it would in English.
      Also just because attractive celebrities who can fluently speak another language is attractive as hell for reasons unbeknownst to me.

    B: Stefan and i , our reaction was to lock ourselves in our rooms, listening to lots of music and learning to play instruments. This idea of escaping that boredom pushed us to have this determination of doing smth artistic with our lives. But we were separated. We were in the same country, going to the same school, but we weren't friends. So our lives were quite similar and when we found each other in London by accident, Voila!

    R: [says smth about the band being a second family]
    B: Yes, it's just like a second family, a surrogate family. The only difference is that you can choose this family. This is the big luxury and the big difference. I moved to London when i was 17 and I went to a University over there, to study dramatic arts which was my first passion, and only after finishing my studies I made the decision to make music.

    B: Yes, it's an incredible country. I really like Asia in general, and, yes, before med, the last album, I spent some time there, like Beach Bum, and it's really a cool place, a country of colors, of extremes. Let's say that when you go to Japan, it's like being allured to the planet Mars, and when you go to India, you're being allured to the planet Mercury.
    R: and Cambodia, you went there to play for preventing human traffic.

    B: yes, in December 2008, we went to Siam Reap in Cambodia to play a small concert in front of a Buddhist temple from the XII century. All of it was for charity, to stop human traffic for prostitution, etc. It's smth very close to our hearts. I think that human traffic is smth very shocking and without excuse in a so called "civilized, advanced, modern world. We try to show people what need to be avoided, so they don't fall in the trap.

    B: Because it's mostly adolescents and adults from Asia and Eastern Europe who are in danger.
    R: What do you enjoy doing these days, Brian Molko?
    B: When I spend time with my son, it's the best.
    R: Thanks a lot.
    B: Thank you.

  • @rentedsoul
    @rentedsoul 15 лет назад +2

    B: I am not saying something bad about it, I am just saying that people often ask me if that place means something to me, but I don't remember, not very much anyway.
    R: In Belgium It's a custom to say that when you descend in the South you have a great time, but when you go to Luxemburg, you get bored. That was good for you, because that's the reason you started playing the guitar.
    B: Yes, exactly. It's true that in the 80's it was very boring in Lux.

  • @DarrenInTheDust
    @DarrenInTheDust 12 лет назад

    Yes, you're right but I think otherside that he has to do a reflexion before answering, that's normal. I'm french and when I speak french I lost my words too sometimes, mainly when someone asks me questions :)
    (Sorry if there are mistakes)

  • @SweetMintPie555
    @SweetMintPie555 13 лет назад +1

    @ZulKoji he isn't bilingual so he has to pay more attention to what the interviewer is saying, also the pauses he makes are normal for someone at a fluent level and would be made in his native language of english anyway, if you look at his vocabulary in french you can see he is having little problem :) he does look a little more nervous than normal though!

    R: Is it always that crazy excitement to be on stage?
    B: yes, yes, me and stefan are 2 guys pretty shy and introverted, so we need a certain exhibitionism, but we need a context for it, and the stage is this context. It's a very basic thing we feel very...uhm, it's a simple, basic thing, it's an immediate response, an immediate energy from the audience that fills you with a sort of euphoria and we hope that every time we go on stage, we'll be able to create a common euphoria in the room.

    In response to Opal Moner: I have noticed he generally tends to sweat profusely. In interviews, he is always sweating when nobody else is. I have always found face-makeup (pancake) is very hot and uncomfortable, but I think it is more than just the makeup. Some people just perspire more. When I saw Placebo live in Los Angeles last year, I was close enough to see the makeup that rubbed off on the collar of his black shirt. He walked out on stage cool and calm, hair and makeup perfect. By the end of the first song, his shirt was drenched, the eyeliner was melting off his face and his hair was soaked. He performed the rest of the concert like that. I felt bad for him. Steve Forrest was too far away to see, plus, I'm sure it helps to have your shirt off.... Stefan never once broke a sweat. Incredible. I can imagine this condition must cause Brian embarrassment -- especially when he was still drinking alcohol, because the smell of the alcohol (even vodka) comes out in your perspiration.

  • @rentedsoul
    @rentedsoul 15 лет назад +3

    B: this is what we try to do.
    R: Is it true that as an adolescent, when you sat down the toilet, you used to imagine that you were giving interviews?
    B: yes, it's true. I have to say, it's nothing personal, but the interviews are not my favorite thing. I haven't talked too much about myself, but yes, it's true. When I was bored, I... yes[cute smile].
    [here is a part that I don't quite understand]
    R: next to you is a little Buddha. India is a place where you love to go to, isn't it?

    Whenever people speak a language fluently that is not necessarily their native language or the language they use everyday or no longer use everyday, I wonder how good they really are.
    I'm German, I know enough French to understand him, but I can't judge how natural he sounds to a native speaker. Are there native speakers here? What do you think?

    J'ai découvert PLACEBO au lycée, mes parents écoutaient "France Inter", l'émission de Bernard Le noir......MILLE MERCI à Bernard Lenoir: Brian est une personne tellement délicieuse. Quand j'ai entendu "Every You, Every Me" les 2 premières fois de ma vie à la radio, sur la route, dans la voiture de mes parents, je me demandais vraiment si c'était un homme ou une femme qui chantait......je n'avais pas encore du tout vu l'image du groupe, et celle de Brian......mais QUEL CHOC MUSICAL, VOCAL, CET UNIVERS RESONNAIT TELLEMENT EN MOI, COMME SI J'AVAIS TROUVE UNE SORTE DE GRAL MUSICAL....j'ai retenu le titre et acheté l'album Without You I'm Nothing.
    Donc, dans ma chambre d'internat, au lycée, on était 3 filles de 17 ans: les 2 premières affichaient des pages arrachées de magazines avec des mannequins féminins extrêmement maquillées.....et moi, j'avais le lit en bout de chambre, avec sur le mur en face de mon lit, des pages arrachées au Rock'n Folk du moment, avec un homme magnifique maquillé: yeux, ongles, cheveux noirs au carré.......et oui, j'étais la seule à afficher Brian!
    Et j'ai su très vite qu'il s'exprimait très bien dans notre langue: il sait être subtil, très drôle (voir interview en 2001 je crois sur le plateau de Nulle Part Ailleurs, où il fait une blague sur la clope/et sa 1ère rencontre avec David Bowie), vraiment fin, distingué, éloquent, cultivé et référencé dans l'expression de ses propos: il parle la langue de Molière tellement mieux que certain(e)s hommes, femmes qui sont eux, francophones de langue maternelle. Il m'a beaucoup inspirée, au niveau du look: je me suis enfin extravertie, car je recherchais ce "type" de style depuis la classe de 3ème....et là, même s'il était un homme, j'avais trouvé MON modèle. Je l'ai vu en concert évidemment, et 2 fois dans une petite salle (un vrai choc tonitruant la 1ère fois/normal c'était aussi mon tout 1er concert....et j'en ai bien mieux profité la 2nde fois, dans la même petite salle, devant, un peu sur le côté, bien placée avec une copine, un peu loin du gros pogo/expérience que mon petit gabari et pogo, cela finit par une sortie par les pompiers + sucre + tu dégages au fin fond de la salle..... Un bonheur d'écouter Brian, son engagement, sa délicatesse intellectuelle qui fait tellement de bien. MERCI BRIAN, COMME TU L' AS DIT TOI MÊME (je crois) un jour: "Petit, oui, mais parmi les Grands". Nous aurons toujours besoin d'hommes tels que Brian, et de toutes les personnes qu'il parvient à inspirer.

Un moment de télé génial.

    Reporter: You were born in Bruxelles? Is it true?
    Brian: Yes, it's true. How come you ask this so directly?
    R: Because I always read you were born there.
    B: Yes, yes, almost 37 years ago. But I don't really remember it. We didn't stay there for a very long time, so I don't remember living In Belgium. So, when I return to Bruxelles, because I don't have this recollection about living there, It's not really a place with a big resonance for me.

  • @ZulKoji

    And I don't know for some reason I find Brian nervous in this interview - not really nervous but he just seems kinda lost in words like trying to hear the interviewer carefully and trying to remember what each words mean in French (if that makes sense). Like, when the interviewer is asking him questions, Brian keeps looking up and like his adam's apple is moving a lot (lol). Ahh, I don't know how to explain.
