    I mean from an economic point of view, if you could legally get away with paying your worker 78% of what you normally pay, wouldn't you just hire a ton more women? You'd make more money overall by just hiring women.

      ***** First off, you have very few credible resources and the ones that were credible like the Bureau of Labor Stats were flawed in that they did not account for hours works per week. They only covered median salary, the job, and the percentage of women and men in that job. They did not go by specific companies worked in, what they paid their employees and there aren't even confidence intervals for the hypothesis. Every single "study" that you named is flawed or askew with incorrect data. Hours worked, quality of that work, and if someone is getting a bonus or even a pay raise for number of years in that work or doing a good job is all not included in any of those studies.

      Katie Davids Domain Actually I come from a 1st world country (Australia) where there is an approximate 16% gender pay gap. In fact, not only does the gender pay gap exist, it is also rising. In most of the world women suffer from unequal pay because of their gender. So, yes, it is f**king ridiculous.
      BTW, try looking up these facts on Google (I might need a refresher on the exact pay gap.)

    • @davidsdomain3240
      @davidsdomain3240 9 лет назад +60

      Ally Pitt Yh, It is good to look up facts before you go into an argument. There ARE studies that say that men out-earn women. But this is disingenuous, especially the way Buzzfeed has presented it. There are laws that you would be breaking by giving a woman, in the exact same position as a man "78%" of what the man earns. You would be in jail. This is like me saying "black people are more violent than white people in america." This is true but it doesn't take into account the fact that black people grow up in poorer areas. Also you claim "its rising", no it isn't. Younger woman in their 20s are out-earning men, but you don't see the outcry there, because I guess people account for the factors in that situation. Also, i'm not sure if my first comment was even relevant. Does MegaGardevoir mean that paying people more because of who they are is ridiculous, or do they mean that the "Gender Pay Gap" is a ridiculous idea?
      (Edit: "?")

    • @AllyPitt
      @AllyPitt 9 лет назад +8

      Davids Domain Yet people are breaking these laws and not getting called out for it. The fact is that the gender pay is paying people more or less based on their gender, whether it is consciously or subconsciously. I did state where I come from and I will repeat (Australia), where the pay gap is rising. Quoting the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation) "New data shows gender pay gap has risen. New data from the ABS shows that the gender pay gap has hit 18.8 per cent, a record high since this data began to be collected in 1994." There are studies that show single women who live in a single household out earn men in their respective age range, but the far majority of women either live with someone else or are married, so this is not really relevant. I do understand where you are coming from, with the laws, but the issue with that argument is that laws like these are difficult to enforce.

      +Rory Mackinnon There are several ways for an employer to get out of this, you know that as well as i do. However I believe its a primitive way of working and simply doesn't happen anymore/98% of the time. For example I recently started a new job and I was made aware I get paid roughly about 35-30% more than everyone else (mixed genders). However a girl started with me, who is 5 years younger than me (im 27) and with less experience is paid the exact same.
      In all honesty if i was female and i found out i was being paid unfairly because of that I wouldn't use it to get more money I'd use it to learn that the company is unethical and i wouldn't want to work for them anyway. It would be a lesson I didn't know i was paying for. For example, if you relised you were being paid less for being a woman and you got a rise to the same as a male for threatening them, would you honestly really want to stay there? I as a male wouldn't either, if my employer did that to a woman.

    • @somuchsalt2810

      This is not what the wage gap is, it actually means that ALL WOMEN in the U.S earn 78% of what ALL MEN in The U.S do. The main reason for this is because big business is dominated by men, only 5% of Fortune 500 ceos are women. It doesn't mean if Bob has a job for a pool cleaning service, and earns $10 an hour, and Jill had the same job, and same hours that she would earn $7.80 and hour.

      In the company I work at, we are told not to talk about our pay cause it was decided on personal agreements. So any 5 people doing the same job could have 5 different payments based on their starting agreement, their time at the company, their efficiency, personal relations (yeah that's a thing) etc. Gender is NEVER in that calculation. Maybe she should get a new job?

    • @Apohuk

      Frozen AYCE it is impossible unless she literally gets a recording of her boss saying im paying you less because you are a girl, to prove that she is being paid less because of discrimination. her lawyers would try and get her compensation through settlement by threatening to bring the suit to the press, giving the company bas rep. to which the company will either settle, or more likely hire a couple girls and promote some girl who is working there. to show the media that she was just a terrible worker, then publicly fire her resulting in her not only losing the law suit, but never being able to find another job.

It has nothing to do with equality, the actual wage gap for women and men in the same job with the same qualifications is about 4-5%. Also women make up for that gap anyway because they get more paid maternity leave (not in the US tho you twats don't even provide paid maternity leave)

    • @shatan380
      @shatan380 7 лет назад +8

      she was paid less to who? you know, maybe the work experience and the work role have something to do with her getting paid less. You know that the wage gap is EARNINGS gap, not PAYING gap? she EARNS less, but she still is PAID the same amount as anyone else who has the same experience and is doing the same work. The reason why the average pay gap is favoring men is because they work for more (as well as other factors but keep it simple) they don't literal get paid more, they earn more.

    • @Cemarimoney
      @Cemarimoney 7 лет назад +2

      dunderducky Actually there are people who are paid less based on the same statistics (relative age, work experience, and job). Either way, whether you believe in the average pay gap due to earning or not, the point of the video is to make the wage gap ironic by showing how silly it'd be if we actually started working as paid.

    • @shatan380
      @shatan380 7 лет назад +7

      Aryiana Moore "Actually there are people who are paid less based on the same statistics (relative age, work experience, and job)." what about gender? i think that is the purpose of the video, its not to show how ironic it would be. Its trying to push the agenda that women are supposedly paid less for the same job which is a lie that has been debunked too many times.

    • @Cemarimoney
      @Cemarimoney 7 лет назад +3

      dunderducky I'm sorry I assumed you understood let me rephrase:
      Actually there are women who are paid less than men based on the same statistics (relative age, work experience, and job). The gender is not the same which is the whole point of the video. And I think you're wrong about the video because it's obviously comedic irony. In order to show how outrageous the wage gap is, an actor is put in a scenario where she only works the percent she is being paid to work in comparison to one of her counterparts in the work force. It's like when people publish political cartoons. It's supposed to be a comedic take on an important issue. Just because you don't agree with the issue doesn't mean it's not ironic suddenly because you, one individual, say so.

    I'm an accountant and I have access to a lot of HR and payroll data.
    I rarely see any wage gap purely due to gender: same company, same job, comparable experience & education = same hourly wage. We have (mostly female) HR administrators to make sure of that.
    I do notice, in entry level non-specialized jobs, males are willing to accept lower wage than females for the same position, due to competition.
    However, it's true that more males are currently working in high paying positions: such as senior management (20+ years experience and winners of cut-throat competition), very specialized technical positions, extensive overtime & travel related jobs, hazardous and dangerous work environments.
    Bigger Corporations actually have social pressure to hire females for these positions, and usually end up hiring one or two under-qualified female worker to diversify the team. And as a result, adding more workload and stress to their male co-workers.

    It's true that women earn (roughly) 17% less than man overall, per year, in the US.
    Here's the shocker: if you account educational background, specific field of study, field that you work in, and your position at your job, the wage gap goes down to 1-2%.
    Of course, that's still more than there should be - but then you have to account for the studies that show that women tend to undersell themselves on resumes, and tend to ask for a lower starting salary, as well as negotiate lower raises.
    If you don't believe me, I don't blame you. It's an unpopular "opinion". The myth is *widely* believed. But you can take a look at the studies themselves, and verify what I'm saying here. Or, at the very least, before you simply believe what is said in this video, at least just take a glance at the actual statistics so you know how this number came to be.

      Travis Huffman it's because the 78% thing is bullshit. The statistic it is based off of states that ON AVERAGE women get payed 78% of what men get payed. It is based on an average, it does not mean that women get payed 78% of what a man gets payed at the same job. This is a common misconception that Buzzfeed is blindly spreading.

    Omg it's already statistically PROVEN that women make only 78% of what men make. So in simpler terms, if a male office worker made a dollar every hour, a female office worker would only make 78 cents every hour. I don't understand what's so hard to comprehend. I mean, it really is simple math and reasoning. The wage gap isn't just a couple cents and it isn't just a small issue. If it was as irrelevant as some ignorant fools here believe it to be, I'm pretty sure that women wouldn't be "complaining" about it. "Oh, men work better", "Oh, men are smarter", "We men do all the hard work", "Men are the superior species". Bullshit. Solving this issue isn't exactly rocket science.

    • @fr0z3nskull

      These data doesn't take into account position in the company or how long they been in the company or the hours they work. Men do get paid more for the same job, they get paid more because they have jobs that pays more money or because the work more hours. You can ask why aren't there more women getting promotions but no, man do not get paid more for the same job.

      dumplings1997 Judging by your post I'm assuming that you have extremely little work experience and have never needed to physically exhaust your body regularly to keep a roof over your head. You need a MAN to do that for you. When I worked at one particular plywood mill the women were always promoted to junior management positions quickly so they don't have to pull chain or get covered in glue on lay-up because they just couldn't handle it day in/day out indefinitely. I can tell you that in blue collar jobs women are always given preferential treatment and are paid identically (union) or paid more due to qick advancement from physically demanding lower positions. We also share health care costs while women use the benefits most.

The obviuos reason why they wouldnt hire all women is because the reason they pay women less is they believe women dont work as hard, and assume all women are going to take maternity leave and take time offf to spend with family. Companies often assume women are not as hardworking or talented in their profession.

      Frejito the Emissary of Joy I literally dont even know what the patriarchy is. anyway, the wage gap does take into account women working different jobs and from what I have heard men and women who work the same job are paid differently because the employers expect women to take time off work to care for children and dont try as hard to get raises. even if a man and a woman work the same exact job with the same experience, the woman could earn less because she is expected to work less. as for the "why not hire more women" argument, I honestly think that is the stupidest argument I have ever heard. If companies though women weren't as good as men why would they hire wore women?

    • @michaelamccormack2537
      @michaelamccormack2537 8 лет назад +4

      +Maria Kazazaki Not exactly, you may be talking about a movement that has become known as "white feminism" (i.e. feminism that excludes another group). The original goal of feminism was gender equality and was named feminism because females were oppressed as a group. Saying western females can't be upset about inequality because someone has it worse is like saying someone can't be happy because someone else has it better...

    • @mariafoteini
      @mariafoteini 8 лет назад +19

      Michaela M. I am not talking about "white feminism" or whatever is this anyway...And i never said feminism didn't start as a movement that basically wanted equality between the two sexes.However this has now changed.We,women, in western societies gained the rights we deserve.Western women have lots of benefits in our societies.We are indeed the freest and the most liberated women in history.What exact right women do not have but men have?Tell me at least one.So why are feminists still so unsatisfied?Why feminists do not try to actually HELP women who live in developing countries? Why feminists focus exclusively only in problems related to women and not both sexes?Why feminists spread false information like the so called "wage gap"?Why do feminists 'inspire" women to have a successful career but not to be wifes or mothers as well?Why wanting to be a mother or a wife is "sexist" according to them?Arent women allowed to do both?Work and have a successful personal life as well?
      Feminism is wrong in so many levels.

    As a man, you go to work. You're fine with that work. You have a female coworker. You both do the same job. You went through the extra work and risk of getting the job by negotiating for a higher paying salarie. You put in the extra work in your interview to earn more money. The woman didn't put that much effort in the interview to get higher pay. Welldone, you both got the job. However you go out of your way to work more hours. You put your life on hold for your career so you can earn more. Your female coworker decides not to put in as many extra hours, instead she is out living her life, having fun, watching movies, going to clubs, visiting family, seeing friends, and so on. You don't get to do that because you want to work extra hours to earn more money. The female worker decides to go on vacation, so leaves. You decide to stay at work to earn more and perhaps raise your pay due to your dedication to the job. A while after, there's a bug going around the office. You and the female coworker fall ill. The female coworker decides she best stay home due to being ill. You decide that you're going to fight through it and still come to work to earn money. Later on, the woman falls pregnant. After the child is born she goes on maternity leave. You're still working. Due to your dedication to your work, you get a raise. You worked hard, took less time off work than your female coworker, spent more time doing more hours than your coworker, and took the initiative to gain a higher starting salary.
    Now imagine that. Ok. Imagine the guy in the video went through that, took all that extra work to earn more. While the woman on this didn't and done what was explained here. Then play the video. Essentially what you see is a spoilt woman who was not willing to put the extra work in to the job to earn more where the male worker did and then feel offended by not getting the extra money the man got that she does not deserve yet feels entitled to, therefor does what she done on this video.
    What do you see now that I have pointed out these factors? Do you see a strong, empowered woman fighting against the wage gap or do you see a whiny, petty, self-entitled douchebag who isn't willing to put in the extra work her male coworker is yet feels entitled to the same amount of pay he recieves without having to do or sacrifice what the man had to in order to reach that pay?

    • @caliac
      @caliac 9 лет назад +12

      What you've said is just absurd and male chauvinist, since you're giving they guy all the positive features and all the negative to the girl out of nothing. The video is exposing the most unfair case scenario, which is getting paid less for doing the same job, and that (still) happens to women in some places. Besides, you could say the exact same but putting that you're the woman and the "spoiled, blah blah blah" is the man, which not only makes no sense at all but would also be really bitter.

    • @SpikedYum
      @SpikedYum 9 лет назад +27

      Cali C
      No, it's not chauvanist to make assumptions based on the likelihood of who would do what which is demonstrated through statistics. Men are more likely than women to do all of those things, hence why men earn more on average.
      It's not chauvanistic to explain why the male coworker would of earned more through statistics.
      "And that still happens to women in some places."
      - It happens to all sorts of people but it's not a general thing. This isn't exclusively a female issue, men, women, whites, blacks, straights, and gays can suffer from unfair pay, trying to single out women as if it only happens to them, as if it's more important when it happens to them, is sexist. Again, it is not what generally happens and when it does, it's against the law.
      Yes, you can say the same in reverse. Women in their 20s out-earn their male peers, which I am sure you were not aware of. I'm sure you won't have a problem with that, though.

    • @caliac
      @caliac 9 лет назад +4

      No one says it's more important when it happens to women, only that it affects women negatively, that is why that specific way of unfair pay is called gender gap, don't mix stuff in order to debate an idea. Besides, gender gap takes into account the number of hours, so that "men work more hours thing" is not a matter of discussion here (and even that can be argued).
      What I found chauvinistic is that you just created that hypothetical scenario where the girl's a total asshole and the guy some sort of saint out of nowhere when the video had nothing to do with that.
      And no, I was not aware of that 20s out-earn, but if that's a result of gender gap of course it is unfair. And you know what, assuming that I would support unfair pay to men THAT is sexist. Sorry you are so bitter...

    • @SpikedYum
      @SpikedYum 9 лет назад +14

      Cali C
      No, you're not understanding what I'm saying. Everyone can be unfairly paid negatively, it happens to people of any group. I'm saying it generally does not happen. And no, most studies do not factor in all the factors when it comes to the wage gap, like maternity leave, sick days, and how men negotiate for higher salaries far more.
      So you found it chauvanistic for me to involve a hypothetical scenario where the girl's a total asshole in a hypotherical scenario where her male boss is a totall asshole? So people are allowed to make hypotherical scenarios paining men ass assholes but not women? Fire with fire. If you can't deal with the heat then don't play with fire.
      Sorry that you got dumped at prom and that's why you hate men.

    YOU CANNOT LEGALLY PAY SOMEONE LESS THAN OTHER PEOPLE BECAUSE OF GENDER! IT IS AGAINST THE LAW THIS IS NOT THE CAUSE OF THE WAGE GAP! The wage gap is caused by different values men and women have about taking time off, maternity leave, personal days and more. Also, women generally pick lower paying jobs, that is a fact. These are just the average facts. It is unlawful to pay someone less based on their gender, race, etc.
