Beautiful song, performance, and sentiment. I can appreciate the optimism of seeing unpursuable love as creative force. Few things wake up the mind to the depth of our own interior experience like heartbreak. Thank you, as always, for continuing to share your talents with us.
The song reminds me of a Bukowski line from his book, Love is a dog from hell: "I loved you like a man loves a woman he never touches, only writes to, keeps little photographs of". That could be interpreted in many ways, but my guess is that he was getting at the attentiveness and even the sweetness of love when physical intimacy isn't in the cards. At its worst it deteriorates into obsession, resentment, or bitterness... and at its best, I think it ripens into some kind of affectionate respect... both for the other and for oneself...forever out of reach, and forever loved in a peculiarly tender way because of that irresolution. but yeah, painful, to be sure. Hence all the art and music flowing from centuries of broken hearts. :)
It might not be a nerve ending, but for me, a tear-jerker! Another fascinating performance, dearest Alanna! Thank you for sharing your gifts and time with us here on RUclips. All the best!
Man, I enjoyed this song a great deal. Also really enjoyed your reflection on the interior nature and experience of what goes unexpressed / unrequited and how it relates to creativity. Hope you've been well indeed and I'm going to listen to this again
@@AlannaBoudreau Wow, I'm the absolute worst. I completely missed your response!! I'm so glad you made your day and that you and Lew are doing great :) We've been doing quite well also (and expanding! Emma is almost a year now if you can believe it!!) I just listened to your most recent cover of "You're Only Lonely," which I greatly enjoyed. I'm going to keep the party going and listen to this again!
actually what i think the people wanna see is you headbanging to a performance of Spoonman by Soundgarden haha ... or you know maybe Medicine by Havelin :) OR People Need a Melody by The Head and the Heart OR OR OR Tiger Striped Sky by Roo Panes or Landslide by Fleetwood Mac! Any of those I suppose ;)
That’s true, that’s how Leith wrote it, and I love their queer perspective and how they weave it throughout their music. However I find it hard to imagine that Leith would feel as though no one but queer people can or should cover their music, or see themselves within the music. Love and sexuality are much more than what end of a given spectrum someone falls on. The experience of unrequited love is a human one, not a uniquely queer or hetero one. That I chose to use words that more specifically reflect my experience of sexuality has nothing to do with taking something away from… what? Gayness? The gay community? I couldn’t take from that if I tried, it’s not in my power to do so.

the lyric is "I'm sure SHE'LL be a gentleman" it's gay... it's supposed to be gay. don't allow more to be taken from us.
