The “John and June” who helped show him how to beat the Devil were Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.
Oh man!!! Who would've ever guessed that John and June where johnny and June 😂😂😂 great observation hahahaha
Here Comes That Rainbow Again, This old road, Closer to the bone, Sunday Morning Coming Down, Why Me Lord, For the Good Times, Help me Make It Through the night, The Pilgrim, If you don’t like Hank Williams, etc. Man is a genius.
see just like that. thanks for doing exactly ty whay I asked
@@Modern-Renaissance-Man Yes Blades guardian and you pronounced his name correctly.
Right on brother Kris is a genius love all the songs you put up .👍🏼
"I ain't sayin' I beat the devil
But I drank his beer for nothin'
Then I stole his song".
Kris was/is a great writer. And yes, on the Blade question.
He is so talented, “Why me Lord” is my favourite song of his. Yes he played Blades mentor
Now your working with something. Kris Kristofferson is my all time favorite songwriter and happy to say he was the original Modern Renaissance Man.
Why me Lord. Great song by Kris Kristofferson
Sunday Morning Coming Down, For The Good Times, Casey's Last Ride, Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I'll Ever Do Again), The Pilgrim- take your pick! All by Kris Kristofferson. I could go on and on naming his songs. The man is a lyrical genius.
Kris Kristofferson was the son of a high ranking military officer. Kris has had a legendary type of life. All sorts of unlikely achievements: 1. Was a Rhodes Scholar at Oxford University; 2. Was a Golden Gloves Boxer; 3. Was offered a position as an English instructor at West Point... Then Kris departed from his upward trajectory by turning down the gig at West Point so he could move to Nashville and become a songwriter. His parents basically turned their backs and he was on his own. Kris took a job as janitor at Columbia Records recording studio because that was where Johnny Cash recorded. Kris tried to get Cash to listen to his songs. No luck. So Kris borrowed a helicopter, landed it at Johnny's lakeside home and handed him a tape. Not sure which song Johnny recorded first, but "Sunday Morning Coming Down" was a huge hit for Johnny Cash.
Thanks for doing this. Kris is probably my favorite song writer ever.
Trivia: Kris is a Rhodes Scholar.
Kris seemed to be suffering from Alzheimer's for a time and was doing badly. But it turned out that he had undiagnosed lyme disease. Since being treated for that he has improved from what I understand.
As to Why Me, here's the version I would suggest. I think that you would really like the song.

He is the man in blade!!! And "to beat the devil" is referring to kicking alcohol addiction. Thanks for the video friend, I'm glad you enjoyed and we all could share this moment with ya
He starred in A Star is Born with Barbra Streisand in 1976 and was a huge movie. They sang a song together called Lost inside of you. Beautiful.
When they sang Evergreen, it was awesome too.
Kris was a Rhodes Scholar. He was very smart and well educated but he loved music and wanted that life. He’s a poet when he writes lyrics. He was defeated by the devil for many years but finally got himself clean and straightened out. Then he wrote Why Mr, Lord. Great song. Listen to Elvis’s version.
KK is one of the greatest song writers and singers ever. My favorite is Me and Bobby Mcgee. One of Pearls biggest hits. ... Janis Joplin... AND Sunday morning coming down....
I agree with Zita Asbury Why Me Lord is a great song. And Kris Kristofferson sings with so much heart and feeling.
My favourite by him is "Why me Lord" great message in that one.
As for Kris:"Darby's Castle", Casey"s Last Ride", ad Roger Miller's cover of his ThE Best Of All Possible World's"are great places to start.
I love everything Kris has ever done. He is one of the very best song writers
there is. My very humble opinion. (:
Joni Johnson Agree 100%
As a lyricist Kristofferson has few (if any) peers. LISTEN to his words. The man's a poet, nothing else. His word constructs are phenomenal. He paints a verbal picture better than anyone I can think of. Me and Bobby Magee was written by Kris and sung (and made famous) by Janis Joplin. Surely you know who she is. The list of songs he wrote that MADE other artists is too long to publish here. I LIKE his voice, tho he'd never win any singing awards. But his voice fits what he writes, the everyday man/woman just getting along. His lyrics however are GOLD. Pure poetry.
Kris and Barbara Streisand Evergreen from a star is born.
Kris Kristofferson is a prolific song writer. He wrote me and Bobby McGee, among many many others.
*MRM* Your personal audio is about 20% lower then the videos youre reacting too, I have to turn speakers all the way up to hear you ... and hurry to turn the video down before it blows my speaker out...been like this for a few days...thought you should know
I always loved his songs and writing...loved him in Blade tho. Janice joplin covered Me and Bobby Mcgee just before she died. Kris was so proud...and so were we all
Krisstofferson had so many great songs like jesus was a Capricorn , Here comes that rainbow again, Closer to the bone, I could go on all day but my favorite all time is , the silver tongued devil. This song got me through one of the worst times of my life. I got to shake his hand once what a great human. Keep up the great work MRM 👍🏼🙏
It was popular in the 60s and 70s. Its referred to as a recitation. Some led to a chorus some just told the story. Tom T Hall and Porter Waggoner were great at it. Porter Waggoner has a song like that that is a mix between the singing amd resitation and has Merle Haggard backing him on vocals. Same words porter talking while merle singing. It is called i havent learned a thing
The John and June.....Johnny Cash, June Carter Cash
Kris K is one very talented storyteller.
One word, Legend. The reason your eyes are lighting up like that is because no one is like him. I'm from Nashville, we know what we had from the start.
"Country Music is a story-tellers art"-Lacy J. Dalton. (Who, btw , is a lady you should give a few listens to. Ireccomend "Sixteenth Avenue", "Old Soldier", "old Yellow Car" and her latest "Scarecrow".)
yep, same guy in Blade...singer, songwriter, actor, Rhodes Scholar, tortured genius. He got clean, the John and June reference in the beginning was a nod to Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash.
One of my favorites from his first album! ❤️
Kris will forever be in my mind as the lead actor in Convoy! That was a 70’s classic, MRM & you should try watch it sometime. I also loved him in ‘A Star Is Born’ with Barbara Streisand. He sings the movies’ ‘Love Theme’, with Barbara - completely different to the song you just reacted to, but simply beautiful. Yes, he’s in Blade also!
You just blew my mind with that. Forgot about it. That's a big 10-4 Rubber Duck!
bandit77 10-4 big buddy. We crashed the gate doing 98, I said let them truckers roll 10-4’ Great movie that one!
The man was a Rhodes Scholar Army Capt. Helocopter pilot then gave up an appointment to be an English prof at west pointe to stop in Nashville and show them all how to write a song . Btw dont forget Janis Joplin Me and Bobby Mcgee also Pened by this man.
He was in a big hit movie in the 70s...A Star is Born
Such a wide collection of stuff MRM.... Absolutely great and yes, this is the dude from Blade.
I like Kris Kristofferson, but I don't know this song 🤔 awesome lyrics and nice story telling by Kris 😀 yes Why Me Lord is another great song by K. K. 🤗
Yes, Kris was in Blade.
Me and Bobby McGee, Sunday morning coming down. Oh so many. Great reaction.
my hero! Kris.
Let me tell you a little story, the Chris wrote, the song, Me and Bobbie Magee, A few people recoded it in Nashville, But it didn’t hit the Big time, til Janis Joplin recorded it on the Pop Charts, and she never lived long enough to ever hear it on the radio, And Chris never knew Janis recorded it til he heard it on the radio, and it set him back a spell, because Chris and Janis was Smitten some……. 🤭😊😍🤠🤫
The movie convoy was his more popular movie good friends with Janis Joplin he was with the band Highway man with johny cash, willie Nelson great band
I highly recommend you listen to Sunday Morning Coming Down. Such a sad yet beautiful song. He lived these songs. Why Me Lord is another great one, already suggested by someone else. If you want to hear stories, listen to all of his songs! Oh, and one other thing. I don't know if it was my system or yours. But I could barely hear your words, but the song came in plenty loud enough.
yes it was him.....try sunday morning coming down and me and bobby Magee he wrote a lot of them for other singers
He’s the dude from Blade but even better he was an Army Ranger and an Oxford Rhodes scholar. I’ve also heard he stole a military helicopter and flew it to Johnny Cash’s house. Not verified
He was the old guy in blade.
Love this song!❤️
One of the best writers around! Interesting that he referred to Johnny Cash, and June Carter Cash in the beginning of this story. He was amazing singing with the Highwaymen! Saw him at the Fox in Atlanta early 80s.
I'd suggest Who's to Bless and Who's to Blame [or just about anything off the album by the same name] or perhaps Jesus Was a Capricorn. These aren't the songs people seem to pick to review but they are well worth listening too
favorite s For the Good Times, Help Me Make it through the Night
If you're gonna do more Kristofferson I would recommend anything from hos first album, all amazing songs. My personal favourite of his is Jody And The Kid from his second album
You can't go wrong with Kris. Trey has listed some of his best.
Yes Blade!!! Quite the actor too
Greatest songwriter ever... Loving her was easier. Sunday Morning coming down, Why me Lord and so many other great songs he wrote. More a songwriter than singer.
His song The Pilgrim Chapter 33 is really good. So is from the bottle to the bottom.
John and June Cash...
Yes he was Whistler in Blade
Bro...
You pronounced his name perfectly. But this is deep, deep poetry. Not just a story, with corny acoustic guitar behind it.
Spoken verses, sung choruses.
Now, where have I seen that formula used lately?
Oh yeah... Nearly every rap or hip-hop record, for a good long while.
You have trouble locking into a 'Slim Shady' lyric? Or does 1970 Nashville songwriter groove just put you off?
If so, I dig that.
Like an old Bible verse, I had to chew on this song for years to swallow it, and be spiritually nourished. I encourage you to listen again, what he's saying--not how the record backs it up. (Is that a GLOCKENSPIEL on the chorus?!? What was the producer THINKING??)
Most importantly:
The exact quote is,
"I ain't saying I beat the devil".
But he never says he didn't.
And the answer chorus (how he stole his song) is hinting at how he did.
Plus, his opening remarks credit Johnny Cash & his wife June Carter for showing him how.
In 1970.
It ain't over 'til it's over, but trust me- Kris is winning that fight every day.
"Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ"
-Philippians 1:6
Great Artist!
Yes he was in Blade
Love Kris he is such a great actor/singer and just a great person in General....I also agree that you should do "Why Me Lord"....this link is a live version where he talks about his inspiration for writing the song as well
ruclips.net/video/1tA7E7pbUws/видео.html
yes he played in Blade :-)
Why me, Lord is and essential Kristofferson song. Powerful stuff. Even better to hear him tell the story of it. I know there is a video of that. And yes, same guy that was in Blade lol.
Kris kristofferson. Why Me Lord.
Why me Lord
PLEASE react to his song Loving her was easier than anything I'll ever do again....BEAUTIFUL SONG !!!
Could you please react to Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne - If I Close My Eyes Forever.
Love this one!
It is the man from blade. And its a philosophical song. He beat the devil by stealing his pessimistic song and turning it optimistic.. Thats a basic explanation
John & June Carter Cash
'Sunday Morning Come Down' too.
Why me lord is a good song of his
Was just going to suggest that.
@@lindanadeau1884 He wrote it and it is a true story. (:
Casey's last ride!!!
Yes he was that actor.
He wrote the song Bobby McGee.
Hey, MRM check your mic, its very low and as I can tell from your audience, they all have the same opinion.
Jesus Was A Capricorn.
Take a listen to another of Kris Ks songs...Pilgrem
Yep that's whistler forgot award winning actor . silly me
Why me lord by Kris kristofferson
The great and wasted friend was johnny cash.
Yea he was in BLADE
You really should do a mic check before you start talking. That said, it was interesting to watch your expressions change after your WTF beginning. Too bad the acoustics of the room were so bad combined with the mic being too far away to grasp what you were saying. You sounded like you were speaking from inside a mine and making no adjustments for it.
The Pilgrm
Better than Bob Dillon.
In real life- Hollywood rich.
I could hear the singing but I can't hear you
Can't hear him.
Hey Ty I can barely hear you 😞
Your sound is way LOW
Kris is a genius songwriter but he sings like a rusty hinge....
Lucie Mays Bob Dylan does too. You have to appreciate the art of songwriting with these guys. It’s amazing what they do with words.
I think Kris sounds better than Dylan.
ruclips.net/video/HCgnbRWVvU8/видео.html
Love Kris and Dylan both. I guess it's just something that works for you or doesn't. Tom T. Hall is another fantastic songwriter that's not exactly a crooner.
@@JoeHaynie_VJ ... Yes he is!
