This is so sad in a sense. This wonderful genre of storytelling, so unassailable, is gone now, like so much else that was good.

Looking back I would have loved for Dr. Bob Hughes to go to Weatherfield and meet Ken Barlow and discover that for a brief time they were Pen Pals as part of a Student Program. Don Hastings & William Roache are two of the longest running Male Soap Actors in US & UK History.

I didn't like a lot of the story lines but the actors were wonderful.
Yes, these soaps had a place for the up and coming actors, and those home bound for various reasons. ATWT was the very best and it is a crime that it was taken off the air.
It was an institution and sort of a national treasure.
The Hugh's family was a pinnacle and I am old enough to remember this young Tom and I even remember when Bob brought Lisa home. My mother was an avid watcher.
Yes it is very sad that they are gone, taking with them a certain reliability and cohesive nature that seems to have been lost from this world......

      I do!

I do - the irony is they were co-sponsoring an episode where a person has an illness where roughage (what is now referred to as fiber) is not recommended - a person with that kind of illness shouldn't use a strong laxative such as Haley's MO was.

We need shows like this back please in this world full so full of stress. No wonder people are losing their minds. Just look at what we are force fed on tv. It's all either mean, crazy, or hinting that we are at the end of the world. 😑😮‍💨😶

Pa and Bob got I Tom’s butt and didn’t have to use a switch/belt. But you felt the sting just the same. They got him together properly and I am here for it.

I'm glad that Tom as a grown up had a better relationship with Lisa, Bob, and the rest of the family. The son/parents/grandparents rapport was especially evident when Gregg Marx's Tom had scenes with Eileen Fulton (Lisa) and Don Hastings (Bob), as well as Helen Wagner (Helen) and Don MacLaughlin (Chris).

I think Tom acted up because he was upset about Bob going out with "Other Women". Can you imagine Furious Styles dealing with Tom. Also, Bob's Lecture about The Money is so relevant today as it was then. Also at least Bob tried to be a Proper Divorced Parent. On the UK Soap Opera Coronation St., Ken Barlow sent his Twins Susan & Peter to Scotland to be raised by His Grandmother which his Son resented him for because he raised another Woman's Child as his own but didn't raise his Bio Kids.

      Who was Furious Styles?

    • @laminage
      @laminage Год назад

He was the Father in Boy, In The Hood.

Then Tom is all grown up with Sons of his own and he tells his Eldest Son Adam that he's not his Bio Father, Uncle "Hal" is. The Young Man who played Adam looks so much like Young Tom it's eerie.

      That was revealed in 1996

I always wanted it to come out the Adam was really Tom’s son.

Matthew Morrison who played Adam would later work in The UK Show called the Greatest Dancer as a Judge. He worked with UK Dance Star Oti Mabuse and Cheryl Ann Tweedy formerly of Girls Aloud. Boyzone appeared on the show and Keith Duffy acted on two soap operas Coronation Street and Fair City and he did a show with Cheryl's Bandmate Nadine Coyle.

A thoroughly well written and enjoyable episode featuring 4 generations of Hugheses. I would have enjoyed seeing episodes focusing on the Lowell/Stewart family during this period, including Ellen's prison term for killing Franny and her eventual marriage to David, Cousin Judy's crush on Doctor Bob, and Claire's nightmare marriage to Michael Shea, which chagrined Judge Lowell and the rest of Oakdale.

I was telling UK Soap Fans about SORAS which made them laugh and then they told me about DHS (Different Head Syndrome) where they switch Kids. On The UK Soap Opera EastEnders There were Four Actors who played a Young Man named Ben who was bullied, he acted up got sent to Juvenile for 1 1/2 Years then came back and more psychotic who was "abused" in the Facility. He did all of those things because he felt his Father never put him first.

And nowadays doctors recommend some fiber (the other word for roughage) when someone has diverticulosis - but not in the acute stages which is called diverticulitis - I've dealt with this for almost 10 years now (diverticulosis).
