  • Tell me what you think bass #1 and bass #2 are! We hear so much talk about them so here they are in a mix of acoustic music. Is there a huge difference or not? Bass #1 0:20, Bass #2 2:14, final word 4:05

I am hearing the bass 2 as the Rickenbacker. The both are very well played and sound perfect in the mix, I THINK WE BASS PLAYERS CARE MORE ABOUT THE BASS THAN A LISTENER.

First bass is a Hofner,2nd.is a Rickenbacker, no doubt. The thing is that the Rickenbacker have so many more tones switch. Nice video!

Clever video. As you mentioned there is so much discussion about how much one sounds like the other. We see a few Hofner's used here on country sessions, hollow body basses are great for ballads. I am not surprised how alike the two sound in the mix here and I guess this is the Ric neck pick up we hear. So is the Hofner the first bass? I personally like Rics a lot more. Just my 2 cents.

I do own an Epiphone copy viola bass and Rickenbacker 5-String bass. I can actually tell that the first one is Höfner and the second one is Rickenbacker.
Also, you played the song that is similar to "Misery," which it's a second song of Please Please Me album.

I think the first one is the Rickenbacker and the second is the Höfner since the first one sounded more solid and the second one sounded more hollow. However most of the people in the comments think the opposite of what I think. So I could be wrong. Oh R.I.P., turns out I am wrong! 😬

@@danfelixmusic2536 Here are some 'Is it a ... or ...?' video ideas that I came up with:
Is it an Epiphone Casino or Gibson Les Paul Standard?
Is it a Fender Stratocaster or Gibson Les Paul Standard?
Is it an ESP E-II ST-1 or Fender Stratocaster?
Is it a Fender Jazz or Rickenbacker 4001S (4003S works too)?
Is it a Fender Jazz or Fender VI?
Is it a Double Bass or Höfner 500/1 Violin? (though they would probably both have to be at the back of the mix, or it would be a dead giveaway)

Wonderful video! I've got a Hofner Contemporary Violin Bass with Pyramid flatwound strings, and a Rickenbacker 4003S with Thomastik Infeld flatwound strings, and I love both basses very much. It's funny, because in your clip I slightly prefer the Hofner cause it pops out more in the mix, and I played on my friend's album earlier on this year and we also found that the Hofner sort of made it into the mix in a better way than the Rickenbacker. Of course the Rick had a way of sounding mighty and growly, but it needed more tweaking.

A Rick can sound so sweet, thumpy and hollowbody-like? I'm impressed! I preferred #2 and actually thought it was the Höfner. Both actually sounded incredibly similar, with #2 being a little more open in the attack. What I thought would be the effect of the hollow body seems to be the open articulation of the Rick's single coil.

I found that by using the neck pick up and rolling off the tone on the Rickenbacker with flat wounds that it gets quite close to the Hofner.

    • @c.syde65
      @c.syde65 Год назад +1

I originally thought the second one was the Höfner as well. Because it originally sounded more hollow. But it turns out that what I believed to be a more hollow sound was actually a sharper sound. The Rickenbacker 4003S has a deeper, sharper, solider, and thinner tone. Whereas the Höfner 500/1 Violin has a blunter, fatter, higher, hollower, and muddier tone.

I think the first one sounds like the Hofner, with that woody, present tone. Either the guitar is out of tune or, the bass is having intonation issues, which again would be the Hofner.
In the second clip, I’d say it’s the Ric. Tone is thinner and not as present in the mix. The bass seems more in tune with the guitar too, but there still seems to be a bit of an issue there.

    • @danfelixmusic2536

I think you can get a Ric with flats to sound close to the Hofner tone with some palm muting and it sounds like you are getting pretty close here. In the mix they're harder to tell apart than is just soloed. I personally think the Ric sits a little better ion the tracks. They both sound great here though. At the end of the day the player counts more than any gear. Good to see a video that is useful in a practical sense too, well don, I subbed to ya channel!
