I was reading in the comments about "what Aikido is supposed to be".
Aikido's strengths as a martial art are:
-- The practitioner controls, more than in other martial arts, how badly to injure the attacker.
-- You can fare well against multiple attackers, since your attacks can cripple or send attackers prone.
-- Your body becomes accustomed to moving quickly, with aggression, in a grappling scenario.
An opponent can be deflected or controlled without injuring them -- ideal for a bar fight, where you want to avoid getting injured without doing harm to someone who is only drunk, and you need to be aware of that person's friends who might jump in before the bouncer can come over to help. An opponent can instead be quickly crippled or sent with force to the ground -- ideal for self defense situations, especially against multiple attackers where fighting with kicks and punches will not be effective.
This video is a demonstration that Aikido's gentle moves do not have to be gentle. The same techniques can be executed with even more speed and force than is being shown, enough to immediately cripple an attacker to end a fight without resorting to methods of defense that might kill the attacker. Recognize what is being shown to you.

You might compare Aikido to Brazilian Jujitsu, one of the most respected martial arts. BJJ is excellent to neutralize a single attacker, but it is not useful in a bar fight or against multiple attackers. You might compare Aikido to MMA, the superior sport martial art for full contact. MMA, like BJJ, is useful vs a single attacker but fails in a bar fight (you aren't trained how NOT to injure your attacker; you could be sued especially if you land the first blow vs anyone who gets involved) and vs multiple attackers (where striking and ground wrestling is generally useless).
Aikido has its place when learned properly, and that place is the real world.

In martial arts we have sparring. Accordingly we also have various exercises that are sparring orientated. Last but not least we have a mutual respect, meaning when a person taps, we stop, not only to cease the pain, but to stop degrading him in front of others. Here I don't see any of that, just a bunch of looneys who are too afraid to fight each other.

    • @jdvillav

In martial arts there is no sparring, is not the purpose. Because martial arts are not for combat are for war, you need tonfinish the confrontations fast... You are right.I take this Aikido shit serious now.I (184cm,68kg,bodybuilder) was lessoned in March in front of a supermarketThere was a brawl concerning a trolley with an about 40 year old woman with thick ugly specs, physically much weaker than me.Since she only was 150 cm, she was an easy push and I pressed her 2 meters back and downwards
with my hands on her shoulders. Then she enclosed my right wrist, a short aching, she went aside and I tumbled to the ground on the back, and that in my full black leathers. On the ground, I realised a sprain in my right arm making it useless for further combat. The specs lady saw my surprise and stretched from right to left over my chest, snatching for my left arm poising it in an awkward and helpless position I never saw before. I was completely under shock and could no longer move none of my four limbs. I flushed and even fainted.I only remember some passers by in the audience saying "Look at the arm of that lady, look at the arm of that girl, you ever saw this before?".After some minutes,we were finally seperated by the security and the specs lady said:"Guess you never exspected a dwarf to know the Judo, hunny hulk".But I doubt now whether it is allowed to apply such things in public.

I think the proponents of practical self defense have some valid points! I believe it's high time all martial art schools review their drilling regime and take into account the scenario of street fight/brawl! They must teach their students how to deal with untrained as well as trained attackers!
MMA can be considered a new form of (modern) fighting 'art' in its own right, that is, a mob - unruly - style; so, all old school martial arts need to improvise to handle mob style attack! The available techniques are already useful when up against untrained or even trained aggressors; however, when facing mobsters they are like loose cannon! I believe the existing techniques are still useful and can take down even MMAs! Just need to be practiced and mastered in a much more realistic demonstration!
Now, I disagree when someone says the fights we see in movies are unrealistic. Take Jackie Chan movies, for example, how he handles mob as well as untrained and trained aggressors despite of it being choreographed nonetheless choreographed as realistically as possible! watch the following clip between Jackie Chan and Benny Urquidez, both are trained fighters.
    ruclips.net/video/d-ltRBEu0IU/видео.html
And here's a clip from final showdown between a wing chun and a boxer from IP Man 2 starring Donnie Yen.

There is a reason why uchi deshi at the Iwama dojo described their training as 'hellish' and referred to Iwama as the 'Hell Dojo".

here most people are looking for one nonsense. these masters are taught to technique. arent you able to learn the course of the block youself? all these techniques should be used at the right time! do you think they first should an hour show you how the blocks should be applied? It is necessary though to think before that- that to write..

Either the guy taps for absolutely nothing, or the locks dont break anything. When your partner taps, you let go, you can't tighten the lock further or you break his joints

The problem is that when the aikido technique is applied at 100%, the attacker gets FUCKED. But for demonstration purposes, we have to hold back otherwise we'd have no practice partners. I have no idea why ppl don't get that shit. 🤷‍♂️ ppl want to see other ppl get brutalized but it's just not gonna happen on video unless it's real life. With no gloves. Then, if the aikido practitioner is fast and applies the tech, it's a wrap😂

He is bastardizing Aikido. He is only teaching violence. Aikido is about learning to give and take not just hurt the uke. A real sensei would never treat his uke like this.

why is it Aikido that everyone has to say "he's letting him do it" Duh, that is how all martial arts are trained and learned. I dare anyone to show me a real and true martial art that trains at 100 %. I'll then show you a martial art that no one trains in. Just a bunch of haters that don't train in or ever have any martial art. Each and every martial art though out history has trained by Uke allowing the defender to apply the tech. without resistance. As you get more skilled there needs to be less give in that area but even during class either training or teaching your still not going to fully resist. others don't learn like that and too much resistance will get you broke. Sad to hear or in this case read a comment that says such un educated thoughts. Now that i have said that I do need to disagree with something in this video, it drives me crazy when I see Uke over exaggerations with the tapping and yelling. If it hurt that much there would be a problem. I see this most commonly in Hapkido but also in this Real Aikdo style as well. Over acting doesn't help the "real" aspect of Aikido. We have a hard time as it is without all this over dramatization.

This is proof that aikido is false. Imagine someone catching you in a heel hook or some other bjj lever and not wanting to let you go after tapping, the consequences would be clear.
