- Synanceia is a genus of fish of the family Synanceiidae, the stonefishes, whose members are venomous, dangerous, and even fatal to humans. It is one of the most venomous fish known. They are found in the coastal regions of the Indo-Pacific.
Despite their fearsome reputation, Synanceia are edible to humans if prepared properly as the protein-based venom quickly breaks down if heated, while raw stonefish served as part of sushi is rendered harmless simply by removing the dorsal fins, which are the main source of venom. The fish are considered a delicacy in many parts of Asia, including south Japan, south Fujian and Guangdong in China, and Hong Kong. In the Hokkien-speaking area, they are considered delicacies and good for health. The meat of Synanceia is white, dense and sweet, and the skin is also edible. They are usually cooked with ginger into a clear soup, and sometimes served raw as sushi or sashimi.

Stonefish venom is located in the dorsal spines. So as long as you remove the spines, you’re good. You can also heat the stonefish to degrade the venom, as they do here, for an extra precaution.

This fish actually taste pretty good. Has almost a cod-like taste. The poison is protein based so there's no worries because it's denatured after the heat of cooking. I recommend it. I had once when I visited Laos a couple years ago. It was a bit expensive but again, pretty tasty.

I don't usually respond but you have to remember, this fish also not too deadly to catch. As long as dorsal fin don't poke you, there's no threat. As in the video, the man picks up by the side fins. The reason he boil it because it makes the poison inactive. This fish taste really good and again, is only poison if poked. There no reason fish this expensive. We're talking 30 usd equivalent in Laos for a plate that doesn't even fill you up without rice and vegetable.

Yeah most poisonous doesent necessarily mean most deadly. You can avoid the poison barb on the dorsal fin if youre careful, heck, people keep lionfish as pets at home. Most deadly animals are deadly not because their poison is the strongest, but because of how often they come into contact with humans accidentally. This fish can in fact be very dangerous, but mostly to people walking in the sea. It looks like a rock and you step on it cause you dont see it. If you know its there the actual danger it poses drops to almost 0.

Mark Gonzalez more likely it's guts pretty sure he didn't gut it. Also irk about this fish but most poisonous animals have glands so it's unlikely to see it leak out through it's hole body if it were to leak out you'd probably see it only come from 2 places.
