    Holy Cow, I could DO this! Thank you for such a simple, plain, easy video. I've never been able to crochet because I could never figure out when the instructions say things like "start in the third stitch." So, is that hole a stitch? What about that one? Does that loop count? Or a worse one - "Flip the piece over and start with the second stitch." WHICH STITCH IS THE SECOND ONE??? I have never been able to figure out what they want until now. I could hear each instruction in my head as you did them. They were so obvious! Thank you for making it so clear. I may actually go try to find my crochet needle and some yarn now. Again, thank you.

    Thank you.
    Did this stitch back in the early 1970's soon after I began to learn m, but not so well. My tension was all over the place and uneven at first and it's the sort of stitch you need to keep a consistent tension with. No covering up mistakes. This some of the chains were longer than others even though all had the same number of chains. Lol. Well, I was young.
    I had forgotten all about it. All in all I never did very much. Only squares, rounds, large shawls, scarves and I stopped until recently, so there are many stitches I don't know.
    I would love to make a jumper or cardigan but am not sure how to create arm holes and a round neck.
    Best wishes.

    • @WintrBorn
      @WintrBorn Год назад

      If you do a more blazer look with a hood, you can get away with the square neck. The armholes sort of round themselves when the shoulders/sides get seamed and you attach the yarn for making sleeves.

    The first rows of star stitches would make an excellent addition to a sweater or shirt.
    It could be added to a plain top at the cuffs to add interest or to repair a favourite sweater’s worn cuffs.
    ..and that X stitch - very cool. Hadn’t seen that before.

    This pattern is beautiful but I wish the creator would have said how many stitches there should be at the end of every row. It seemed like randomly there are extra stitches are added in and it’s hard to keep up with it.

      If you are interested in other patterns with written instruction.....Some of Natali's videos have Row by row written instructions in the upper left hand corner. Unfortunately that has not been provided with this video, and we have been instructed to write it down ourselves (which isn't always the most efficient way of obtaining a new pattern - particularly if the pattern is a bit more involved). We have been instructed to do it ourselves and 'VOILA' (as stated by Crochet Now), we have written instructions. A bit flippant, but there you have it.

    • @scibear9944
      @scibear9944 Год назад +13

      If it helps, the extra stitches at the end/beginning of a given row have to do with the eventual height of the finished row. So for example, the foundation row is 4x +1, so 21 for this example. She then single crochets back for row 2. For the next row she chains a total of 5 (one for the turning chain plus 4 more for the height of row 3). Chain 5 together in each SC across the row. It might make a bit more sense if you watch it again with this in mind😊
      That being said, some type of verbal or written instruction would definitely make things clearer.

      Sometimes it's easier, if you have memory problems to make a copy of the pattern and write on the copy how many rows
      or stitches you are to do, then scratch through a row as you've completed it, or spaces as well. Especially patterns with a
      complicated group of stitches. There are also bead bracelets you can buy on Annie's, counting rings, etc, to make it easier in keeping your còunt.

      I just commented that when I tried it when I was first learning, decades ago, mine was all over the place. I did the same number of chains but the holes were different sizes. It was due to me not keeping the same tension all the time. These finer stitches show up mistakes with tension or a chain too many or one less more than a lot of other stitches. You can usually get away with having done one double stitch in a row of treble stitches because it's more solid, but fine lace type work shows up every error.
      Although it could be the size of your hook isn't right for your yarn. One way to check is to sit the yarn on the hook and if it fairly well fills the hook part (but not to much) then that is the one to buy. Obviously two ply for a smallish hook, three ply for a little larger hook and so on. A few really clever and dextrous ladies can manage even crotchet thread with a larger needle without it knotting and slipping out of shape, but I think that would take a lot of practice - and patience. I am too old now for too much of either, but recently I thought I would take it up again to make a jumper or cardigan (if I can 😏 but no guarantees I shall be able to).
      Good luck and keep at it. Practice makes perfect 👍
