I was unaware of the use of showrunner until you mentioned it. It's GAME ON with this card as I am getting married in Hawaii when coronavirus has subsided. Overall GREAT thorough content. The other problem with #1 is that after you initially link your bank account, you cannot make multiple payments until after the bank has been linked for 30 days. So if you’re spending a lot to try to reach the minimum spend, you won’t be able to immediately pay it off because of this rule. Even if the same bank account is already linked to another Amex card on the same portal account, the rule still applies because you have to add your bank accounts to each individual card.

    • @emilyforeman2646
      @emilyforeman2646 5 лет назад

      I wonder if the 30 day rule for making multiple payments is a way to prevent card collecting and paying multiple cards in a month or if it's a way to prevent fradulent transactions somehow. Like if someone is fradulently using your account to payy of cards maybe it would slow them down before they could do it more than once.

    • @darkenedlight4818
      @darkenedlight4818 5 лет назад

      Yes, I believe it is there to prevent fraud. Makes it harder to meet minimum spend though, too, for sure.

    New platinum holder here,
    Does the Amex platinum reward 5x points on flights booked on Expedia, orbit, etc (aka OTAs)? I haven’t been able to find clear answer.
    How long did you wait for the priority pass card? It’s been 10 business days since I signed up :/
    Thanks in advance your videos rock! 🤘

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад

      The 5x only works on Airlines official websites and then AmEx's travel portal. It won't work on Expedia or Orbitz unfortunately. If you haven't received your Priority Pass card, I would log on to the website and chat with a representative and asked if it was mailed out.

    So in terms of use, do you still recommend the regular platinum or the cobranded platinum like a Charles Schwab?

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад

      If you credit card churn and want both bonuses, then get the regular first, then cancel it after a year and get the Schwab (and another bonus). But if that doesn't interest you, then everyone should be getting the Schwab. It's the same card except with the bonus power of cashing out points at 1.25 cents.

    There have been users on different channels stating if you purchase a Frontier ticket one way and stay under $99 it will trigger the Airline credit. Then you can purchase a 2nd ticket back and trigger the credit again.

      @@JakeBroe One thing multiple people have reported is if you call Amex to change your airline during the year (not just in January) you may get an agent who will. If not hang up and call again because you may get someone who doesn't care or know better.

    Great video! I just started using mine. There are a few features that really make the card worth it. I wonder if the TSA- Pre will be redeemable for Clear-travel.

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад +1

      I have not heard of it counting for the Clear Travel program. The problem with Clear is that it is only for one year and it is way more expensive, like $175 or something. That price has to drop and the time duration needs to increase before I see it rolled into CC benefits.

    I have the CSR. and am not sure if I should cancel it and go for the altitude card with US bank or not. It would be good to hit bonus. I do plan to apply for the platinum though once I see the 100k offer. But I’m letting my credit rebuild for a while since I’ve gotten 10 cards in the last 10 months. 3 of those had $500 welcome bonuses😇

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  5 лет назад

      Yeah, 10 in 10 months is a lot. Just know you are going to be locked out of Chase for a long time unless you slow it down. I personally think CSR is better than AmEx Platinum because the $300 credit is easy to use and the point bonus is nice when used with the Chase Freedom cards. The US Bank card is another good option as well, but that isn't a card you would want to hold longer than a year either.

    If the Plat gets Gold Status with Hilton, what happens once you close the Plat? Does the status remain there for the rest of the year? Do the points you accumulated stay on your profile?

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад

      The Hilton points you accumulate do stay. And your hotel status continues up to a year beyond when it was last renewed, whenever that was. Once you no longer have the AmEx Platinum, it stops being auto renewed every year.

      Something people can do is pay rent with it temporarily. Yes, some apartments will charge a 2% fee, however don't do it beyond what you need to hit the bonus. You should still come out way ahead in points vs the fees you paid.

  • @tylerjohnson1368
    @tylerjohnson1368 5 лет назад

    Thanks!
    I already got 3 chase cards, the CSR being one of them. Do you like the CSR or the altitude card more? I don’t travel too much and was thinking about getting the altitude card and then canceling it next year unless they offer a reinstatement bonus..

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  5 лет назад

      I think the chase system of points is easier to acquire and use. The Altitude simple 3x on travel is not very impressive. Having the CSR also gives you priority pass lounge access as long as you have the card. For the altitude card, it is only 12 months. The CSR is a better keeper card, but if you want to cancel it, spend two years getting bonuses on other cards, then come back to it, that's an option.

    • @tylerjohnson1368
      @tylerjohnson1368 5 лет назад

      I think I will cancel my CSR and get the altitude reserve. And I’ll also try for the Hilton surpass. I can get good points back on gas and 10 priority passes with the Hilton surpass card.

  • @jcewata
    @jcewata 4 года назад

    I was approved for the Platinum today and immediately remembered your video!
    Reading the comments, I am hopeful to redeem the airline credit with Delta, since that's what I mainly fly anyway. I could always have my player 2 use it to pay oversized/extra baggage fees for our little one if necessary.
    The Uber and Saks Fifth Avenue credits were a no brainer since we live in a large city with access to both. The Saks credits will make good gift cards if anything.
    I think this card really depends on the cardholder's situation as I had held off on this card for a long time. It was only due to the targeted 75k offer and the fact we are doing an aspirational trip as the reasons I decided to go for it now despite not being in 5/24 with Chase (still not sure if I want anymore than 3 cards with them). It also works out since certain cards have bigger credit limits and I don't want to run the risk for financial review/ card shutdown.

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад +1

      Sounds like a solid plan jcewata! Congrats on your new platinum! It is a fun card. The card definitely has more value if you live in a big city and can more easily use the credits to offset the annual fee. Everyone's circumstances is of course different. Cheers!

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад +1

      I haven't made a video about it, but Ask Sebby did a good one. I can verify that it works to trigger the credit if you check out for a flight with a gift card and then the remainder cost triggers the fee credit with Delta. ruclips.net/video/xUcKcV2svQU/видео.html

      I did not make a video for the CSR, no. The only thing you really have to do for the CSR is go on the website and enroll in priority pass. It also has a TSA pre-check credit. The CSR is simpler/better because the $300 travel credit is automatic and no activation or enrollment is necessary.

      I have a 704 FICO and I would like that amex Blue card do you think I should go for it with my 704 or should I wait

  • @Mousirelen
    @Mousirelen 5 лет назад

    Have the card 6 months and yet to use the airline credit. It does not look good for this year, I havent even selected an airline because I dont want to get a deal, fly on another then not able to use the credit. Everything Amex does is with the intention of making it more difficult, ensuring people having to jump through hoops to get the benefits they signed up for and paid $550 to get. It is to the point where I almost now is thinking to travel just to use and not lose this airline credit, to make it worst I also hold the Gold card. Same Issue. I want to think if 8 million people in the USA have this card, it's a good possibility 3 million are forgoing these credits, this is the type of profit Amex is raking in.

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  5 лет назад +1

      I think 100% it is deliberate. The Chase Sapphire Reserve and the Citi Prestige cards have credits that are way easier to use. AmEx won't take action though unless their customer base starts shrinking and people start cancelling cards because they can't figure out how to use the credits.

    • @emilyforeman2646
      @emilyforeman2646 5 лет назад

      I was looking at ways to spend points for Amex and I saw one site that did the math and said the most value you can get for your points is by using them to buy airline tickets. The thing is, even with their math, I don't think it's worth it when the Amex tickets are regular $400+ more expensive than buying directly though the airline.

    Amex knows most people are going to have a hard time maximizing the airline credit, and that is precisely why they have it setup the way they do. The proper term for this is chickenshit.

    • @JakeBroe
      @JakeBroe  4 года назад

      It's a huge problem with this card.

    • @headlibrarian1996
      @headlibrarian1996 4 года назад

      Indeed. The airline credit is hardest to use for travel on the big 3 (AA/UA/DL), and cannot be used at all on foreign airlines, which is quite opposed to the luxury image Amex wishes to portray. Amex's airline credits are best on "value" travel with Spirit or Frontier, since they have add-on fees for just about everything.

      @@dcamacho6884 , because I have so many cards with AmEx and have plans to get so many more, I really don't want to push my luck or draw their attention them in anyway. I don't pay annual fees, so I am already getting huge value without the need to game the system. I'll go ahead and recommend other people delete cookies or use the incognito browser to maximize their rewards, but I personally have just chose the path of zero risk so as to not put my relationship with AmEx in jeopardy.

      I mean I get it, it seems like it’s gaming the system because of the process but I’ve been a member since 2012 and only apply for there cards in this process or by referral Amex sorta takes advantage of current members and dose not allow them to view the Jumbo offers they throw out to fish for new customers unless referred or you make it appear like you are new out of the 8 Amex cards I have 6 were applied in incognito and I’ve had no problems I just want to let you know for your next application so that you gain more from it 60k is kinda a joke for such a prestigious card in my opinion especially since the gold is 50k on sign up

    AMEX won't change the airline fee credit, because it they get to brag about a credit that hard as hell to use.
