I've had the Platinum Card for years & never did this. Glad to be doing this before doing any extensive travel. Thank you so much for making it easy to understand with the timestamps!
Just got this card today, almost a year after this video was posted and it is still a wealth of information. An excellent video. Basically a blueprint on what do you after you get this card to fully utilize all of its perks, especially seeing that this card cost $550 per year! Thank you for this video and thank you for your service!
Hey Melvin! Congrats on your platinum! The annual fee should automatically be waived. If it isn't and shows up on your account, you can call them. Cheers!
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this card. I recently used my $50 Sak's Fifth Ave towards a dress I had my eye on👁. In addition, I receive a monthly credit for my cell phone & NETFLIX subscriptions. I was unaware of the use of showrunner until you mentioned it. It's GAME ON with this card as I am getting married in Hawaii when coronavirus has subsided. Overall GREAT thorough content. SUBSCRIBED.👍
This is an awesome card for those of us that actually travel consistently. This card is well worth the annual fee for me. Great video explaining what new users should do when they get the Platinum card.
Helpful video, thank you! I just signed up this week and I’m most excited about the lounge access. I travel a lot for work so it’s a benefit I will be taking full advantage of.
The other problem with #1 is that after you initially link your bank account, you cannot make multiple payments until after the bank has been linked for 30 days. So if you’re spending a lot to try to reach the minimum spend, you won’t be able to immediately pay it off because of this rule. Even if the same bank account is already linked to another Amex card on the same portal account, the rule still applies because you have to add your bank accounts to each individual card.
I wonder if the 30 day rule for making multiple payments is a way to prevent card collecting and paying multiple cards in a month or if it's a way to prevent fradulent transactions somehow. Like if someone is fradulently using your account to payy of cards maybe it would slow them down before they could do it more than once.
I was wondering if the benefits are split when you add an additional card member or each person gets their own benefits? Thanks so much for the helpful video!
I received my Platinum card just yesterday. Came in a pretty thick FedEx box. Looked pretty official, but didn’t look like a card or anything. I was also surprised at how heavy and metal - heavy metal! 🤘🏼- the card is lol.
Got my new Amex Platinum this morning and looking forward too some of the travel perks, military vets shouldn’t have to pay the $695,we get a fraction of what active duty members make , just saying …
I got 90k points with one weeks worth of shopping 😅 safe. But look more into the car buying program it actually has more perks included according to my friend that works for them you get some solid discounts in addition to the points
SCRA/MLA benefits extend up to a year after leaving active duty. So when I finally get out, I am going to have to cancel or downgrade all of these cards to no annual versions. It's going to be a sad day.
Saks tip if you order online. Order at the end of June, then they send you discount offers you can use that towards your July-Dec credits. P.S. Saks also has food, candy, and cupcakes at sub $50 prices if you don't want to pay $1,500 on tennis shoes that you'll never play tennis in.
New platinum holder here, Does the Amex platinum reward 5x points on flights booked on Expedia, orbit, etc (aka OTAs)? I haven’t been able to find clear answer. How long did you wait for the priority pass card? It’s been 10 business days since I signed up :/ Thanks in advance your videos rock! 🤘
The 5x only works on Airlines official websites and then AmEx's travel portal. It won't work on Expedia or Orbitz unfortunately. If you haven't received your Priority Pass card, I would log on to the website and chat with a representative and asked if it was mailed out.
Not so easy finding reviews for the Amex platinum benefits in Canada but thank you. A lot of these still apply to us. You yanks get more stuff though Lol. Cheers.
hey if you don't mind me asking, with the Marriot/Hilton gold status, do they work with any of Marriot/Hilton hotel everywhere in the world? or is it specifically only for US hotels
If you credit card churn and want both bonuses, then get the regular first, then cancel it after a year and get the Schwab (and another bonus). But if that doesn't interest you, then everyone should be getting the Schwab. It's the same card except with the bonus power of cashing out points at 1.25 cents.
There have been users on different channels stating if you purchase a Frontier ticket one way and stay under $99 it will trigger the Airline credit. Then you can purchase a 2nd ticket back and trigger the credit again.
@@JakeBroe One thing multiple people have reported is if you call Amex to change your airline during the year (not just in January) you may get an agent who will. If not hang up and call again because you may get someone who doesn't care or know better.
Great video! I just started using mine. There are a few features that really make the card worth it. I wonder if the TSA- Pre will be redeemable for Clear-travel.
I have not heard of it counting for the Clear Travel program. The problem with Clear is that it is only for one year and it is way more expensive, like $175 or something. That price has to drop and the time duration needs to increase before I see it rolled into CC benefits.
Hi. Interesting video. FYI, Marriott Gold status doesn't give free breakfast. The statuses got changed around with the Bonvoy rebranding. The current Gold is like the old Silver with minimal benefits.
I have the CSR. and am not sure if I should cancel it and go for the altitude card with US bank or not. It would be good to hit bonus. I do plan to apply for the platinum though once I see the 100k offer. But I’m letting my credit rebuild for a while since I’ve gotten 10 cards in the last 10 months. 3 of those had $500 welcome bonuses😇
Yeah, 10 in 10 months is a lot. Just know you are going to be locked out of Chase for a long time unless you slow it down. I personally think CSR is better than AmEx Platinum because the $300 credit is easy to use and the point bonus is nice when used with the Chase Freedom cards. The US Bank card is another good option as well, but that isn't a card you would want to hold longer than a year either.
Hey, Tyler. My referral link is currently giving you a 75,000 point bonus offer: refer.amex.us/ABRaHatcEI?XLINK=MYCP If you're not getting it please reply so I can delete the comment, it has shown 75,000 for everyone I've shared it with.
If the Plat gets Gold Status with Hilton, what happens once you close the Plat? Does the status remain there for the rest of the year? Do the points you accumulated stay on your profile?
The Hilton points you accumulate do stay. And your hotel status continues up to a year beyond when it was last renewed, whenever that was. Once you no longer have the AmEx Platinum, it stops being auto renewed every year.
Comes out to $1,666 a month. Try and put every day spend on it for three months that you were going to spend anyways. Then one new large purchase you were going to make someday anyways (smart phone or laptop).
Something people can do is pay rent with it temporarily. Yes, some apartments will charge a 2% fee, however don't do it beyond what you need to hit the bonus. You should still come out way ahead in points vs the fees you paid.
Thanks! I already got 3 chase cards, the CSR being one of them. Do you like the CSR or the altitude card more? I don’t travel too much and was thinking about getting the altitude card and then canceling it next year unless they offer a reinstatement bonus..
I think the chase system of points is easier to acquire and use. The Altitude simple 3x on travel is not very impressive. Having the CSR also gives you priority pass lounge access as long as you have the card. For the altitude card, it is only 12 months. The CSR is a better keeper card, but if you want to cancel it, spend two years getting bonuses on other cards, then come back to it, that's an option.
I think I will cancel my CSR and get the altitude reserve. And I’ll also try for the Hilton surpass. I can get good points back on gas and 10 priority passes with the Hilton surpass card.
Authorized users also share and triggers the credits if they spend money on the card. But the only additional and unique benefit for an authorized user is lounge access and TSA Precheck.
I was approved for the Platinum today and immediately remembered your video! Reading the comments, I am hopeful to redeem the airline credit with Delta, since that's what I mainly fly anyway. I could always have my player 2 use it to pay oversized/extra baggage fees for our little one if necessary. The Uber and Saks Fifth Avenue credits were a no brainer since we live in a large city with access to both. The Saks credits will make good gift cards if anything. I think this card really depends on the cardholder's situation as I had held off on this card for a long time. It was only due to the targeted 75k offer and the fact we are doing an aspirational trip as the reasons I decided to go for it now despite not being in 5/24 with Chase (still not sure if I want anymore than 3 cards with them). It also works out since certain cards have bigger credit limits and I don't want to run the risk for financial review/ card shutdown.
Sounds like a solid plan jcewata! Congrats on your new platinum! It is a fun card. The card definitely has more value if you live in a big city and can more easily use the credits to offset the annual fee. Everyone's circumstances is of course different. Cheers!

Have the card 6 months and yet to use the airline credit.
