It's absolutely crazy how unintuitive and difficult all of these individual benefits are. It's damn near a part time job to figure out how to optimize so that you can edge out a 200-400 dollar net gain on the year vs the 695 yearly fee. Absolutely wild that something percieved to be this nice would be such a coupon grind lol.
Amex is gambling that you will complain, not pursue the perks, and send them your annual fee paid in full each year. Don't be that guy.
I just got this card for the clout and a few of the heavy hitter perks. Too much work to keep up with all perks imo
@@sjwadvocateit’s not worth it, in reality Amex make money from this card, a lot of money, an APR OF 704% is unheard of anywhere in the world, it’s so dangerous that anyone who doesn’t make 5 figures shouldn’t even get this as that could ruin you’re life if things go wrong.
Either take as many of the perks as humanly possible, or just go for the Gold which has better multiples for everyday purchases as well as a much lower $250 annual fee. Who cares about the clout?

I think the Amex Green card is valuable as well. Not a lot of people talk about it but I think its a hidden gem.
Clear can give You Access to Entry into some Sporting Events bypassing long lines, also it holds your Covid information for Countries that still ask for it and it can also be used and some Concert events just a FYI

The airline credit won't work for most WiFi purchases since the WiFi provider is a 3rd party servicer (go-go, T-Mobile, etc) You're paying money to that company, NOT the airline.

You can pair tsa pre check and clear. Having clear while having pre check will allow you to skip the pre check line
I used the cellphone protection for my daughter's iPhone. If you have a family it covers everyone on your cellphone bill, so it's well worth it and you don't need to buy AppleCare or other insurance and covers all phones on your bill. 👍
Such an important list! Glad to say my Amex Plat is probably my most valuable card by a wide margin (and that's with only getting a 75k bonus years back). With credits making up more than the annual fee already, all the other perks like status and protections are just icing on the cake.

Marriott website literally says it has a “Platinum Elite” tier.

As a Platinum Marriott Member who earned through Marriott and Starwoods stays, I feel Gold is enough, giving both Marriott Platinum and Hilton Diamond to cardholders may need a card with a $850+ minimum annual fee and still require a couple nights stayed or it would be the same problem as many airlines who have packed lounges and less quality/quiet.
It works with JetBlue also if u book $99 or under

Priority pass through amex platinum allows up to 2 free guests (but note that individual lounges may restrict that) and then $35 per guest thereafter.

the only thing I’ll say about the return protection is the Chase Sapphire Reserve is at $500 coverage vs the Amex Platinum at $300. Not too many cards offer it these days but it’s an important distinction none the less.

Yup good call out, I haven't gone through the process with Chase but I know it's with whoever Visa contracts out to vs. Amex is the Amex Assurance Company.

Amex Platinum (and Amex in general) has a reputation of luxury products for wealthy individuals.
But make no mistake: it's not hard to get any Amex card as long as you don't have subprime credit. You don't need an insanely high salary or credit score. Just a "good enough" FICO.
It's much harder to get CSR than amex plat, despite the plat being more expensive and having more perks
It's a great feeling to see that screen that says you're approved. I've been working on my credit after acting like a fool for years. Great to open and activated and it's a start to a new credit journey. Like you I opened up a checking account with that special that had $250 to set up a direct deposit. I'll let that go until the 250 bonus posts, and that'll offset the annual fee

I just got the gold card last month now I got a letter that I’m approved for the platinum which I did checked but withdrew my application 6kspend 125k points can’t do both rn probably going to do it after I reach my 4K on gold to get my 90k points

Question if I get the Platinum i can only get 5x points per dollar if I use Cash correct so if I just use the card just to fly with points do I get 5x in points and if not is it still worth it
The hotel status works if you do it with a Hilton Hotel since they are connected
They also raise the level of the Marriott properties as well.
For $695 a year it should have better multiples for everyday purchases like fuel and groceries like the Gold card in addition to the elevated flight and hotel benefits.
What do you do if you got this card and realize its not as beneficial for you personally as you thought it would be ...would you close it out ? Keep it ? What can i do about this annual fee??

I used my united card to refund my global entry fee and after getting conditional approval, there are no interviews at Dulles, and I am not driving anywhere far. So I will go to Qatar and get an appointment there as an excuse to visit.
Ofcourse many of these benefits are specific to US Amex. Can I ask you to create one for the UK as benefits are different? That'll be super useful.

Hi John! Did you use your Saks credit before end of 2023? I just tried to use it but they said that this perk is not always available to everyone? It's a "rotating perk" that you need to find from time to time. The heck! I'm so confused-wondering if you've experienced this?
It’s not a rotating perk. You can use Jan -June and July - Dec. Did you enroll for Saks credit?

SaverOne is a very different card, given that it's a cash back card not a points card. The usual tradeoffs between cashback and points apply, generally cash back gives more reliable awards if you don't want to think about how you use points, but points can deliver more value if you use them right. Amex Gold is just a slightly lower-end version of the Platinum card. It has basically the same benefits, but fewer of them, and a lower annual fee. So which one you pick just depends on if you'll use enough of the Platinum benefits to get your annual fee back.

Do you have to apply on tsa or you can go there and show your card and they will help you on application? Because before i know this i did an application and its been 3 months
You have to apply just like any other person and go through the process. Once you pay the fee you will then get the credit on your bill afterwards. Nothing special or faster processing of the application.
ok i see because i apply online and it says 6 months for the global. I thought i was reading here that once they are at the airport international they can then go to tsa and the interview will just happen right there right away then waiting 6 months if you apply online.

Their Trip Cancellation/Interruption insurance SCREWED ME!!! I charged a $14,000 Alaska cruise from Vancouver to Anchorage. We got covid halfway through. They denied our claim because the it was not a ROUND TRIP CRUISE. We made the mistake of not booking our airfare back to Vancouver on the same card.

Best you can do is destroy the card. Credit cards are about the most expensive ways to borrow money. If you really need a loan go talk to your bank manager.
The Platinum AmEx is a charge card where the balance is paid off every month, but yeah; the benefits are pointless on any card unless you pay the full balance every month.
