- Chad takes a look at the Build-A-Bear pay your age day fiasco that occurred a few months ago. Was it just a poorly planned publicity stunt? Or was it more than that? Let's take a look.

Hi

It’s Beanie Babies all over again.
@Squiddy FancySon but they care more about the deall
Squiddy FancySon Their kids don’t care how much it is.
I would have taken my kid to the local goodwill.
Feel bad for the employees making minimum wage and being screamed at by a bunch of idiots who feel entitled to a good deal.
I worked at a build a bear in Canada. Luckily I never had to deal with the people waiting in line. I only stuffed the bears so the people were usually just relieved that they could go home by the time they got to me.
You mean a SWEET deal
@@xenshia you mean a BEARy good deal
Dude thank you, everyone seems to forget that. And it's pretty important especially without any type of warning.
I know, that's exactly what I was thinking. They had no control over that.
They couldve easily said "For the first 100 customers" and wouldve fixed the whole problem
Jessika F that would make it even worse *snickers*
Then it would be like Black Friday
"First come, first served"
@@mixonisse5618 it was already first come first serve, hence the line. So they couldve just said "Its only for the first 100 people" that way people wouldnt consider waiting in a long line for a toy they might not get
But then people would fight for the spot in line, and argue over whos in front of who. If its only the first 100, people are going to try to BE that first 100

Honestly, what did these parents expect? If I was told that Build-a-Bear was having a sale *tomorrow* where you could buy a $35 bear for $1, the *first* thing I'd be thinking is 'There's gonna be a fuckton of people outside Build-a-Bear tomorrow'...
Yep! I'm with you on that

one of the scariest things in the world is a parent who thinks their child is more deserving than another. i feel so terrible for those employees.
That’s exactly what I thought when I heard this deal.
They must have low IQ
How can you convince yourself that 7 hours of your time is worth a $20 discount?
To be fair, it's not always paid promotion for the news to do something like that. I work at a library and on the day of the eclipse, we were giving away eclipse glasses. We had a total of 500 glasses, 2 per family. And we told the Patrons who visited within the week prior. Except someone in the local news got ahold of the fact we had glasses too. All the sudden, the print newspaper, the local radio stations and the local news were telling people we had unlimited amounts of the glasses. When we opened, the line wrapped around the library twice. Within about an hour, all the glasses were gone. People came from over an hour away, only for us to turn them away. I couldn't do my job because I did nothing but answer the phone all day to tell them we didn't have glasses, half of the people were screaming at the top of their lungs on the phone once I did. People were pissed, telling us how unprofessional we were and how we shouldn't have advertised in the news if we didn't have enough glasses. Except we never did. We AVOIDED telling the local news for this exact reason. We didn't even have it posted on our website. The media basically screwed us over.
If you don't want this sort of thing to happen again, you should speak up when the media advertises something you don't want advertised.
You'll be able to use this incident as support for your claim as well.
@@DrawciaGleam02 We dont have any say over what the newspaper prints. They've done this on multiple occasions. Having the wrong dates or advertising events that we never ever had too. "We're sorry, this won't happen again" is all they say every time.
Solid Snake You should destroy them like you did metal gear.
Solid Snake Don't forget to bring the box!
With all the people he blamed, the News weren't one. Are they the only one to blame? No, but the media spread this around much farther then was probably planned and probably didn't cover the cancellation.

Gigi’s World girls same and I was 35 weeks pregnant working the sale and people were being so mean and I had a lady throw a pile of bear at me.
I remember working that day. It was one of the worst, if not the worst, day of my entire life. It was actual insanity and it is one of the main reasons I left my job.
shieldsgirl wait you worked at build-a-bear during that time
I'm so sorry you had to be working through this. I can't even imagine how terrible it was. My condolences to you, seriously. Nobody should have to go through this.
Limepeke yep. It was horrible. I cried I don’t know how many times that day. No one benefited from this day except maybe the few who got bears.
Crunch Crunch it’s ok. I have a better job now that I enjoy much more. I still love the people I worked with and still like the bears but that day changed how I felt about my job within seconds. I actually loved my job (most of the time) but after that, it stops becoming a fun place to work.

People always talk about bad parenting in videos like these... well so am I. You see that line you leave. What are these people doing? Literally take your kid to any other toy store where there is zero line and they can get a better toy and still be just as happy. Those kids are way too little to be upset about a specific brand of bear you could just take them somewhere else and they'd forget about it or not even know the difference. They're kids. They like toys. That don't care where it's from.

I literally bougth a stuff animal for 3.99 at store when I was 10... a local store. I dont get this parents.

If you're willing to wait in line for seven hours "for your babies," then you should be willing to pay $30 for a bear. (7:30)

Yup they will. The only reason I didn't lose interest in mine is cause you could 'bring them to life' online in the build a bear mmo. They closed the mmo down a while ago, so the only reason to get a bear is if they've licensed a character you like.

Grown adults yelling at employees. Smh. They just work there! They don’t get to control ANY of this. I bet they wanted to run away!
Thank you! I use to work retail and I can promise you, yelling at/intimidating an employee is not gonna make the issue go away
At my other retail job I absolutely make it harder for the issue to go the customers way if they're rude to me. Like decent manners gets u that discount on the item you saw on the wrong shelf, not telling at me to change it I'll just say no and so will the manager lol.
YES I worked that day and some parents were nice but others were..... Not so nice
Radison Madison over a bear. Foh. The privilege.
that's retail for you! I work as a cashier at a store and constantly get yelled at for things I don't control or someones inability to correctly read a sign
As someone who works in retail, the people getting ticked off at the employees just makes me frustrated. It’s just shifting the blame, either from the build a bear company itself, or the parents who’ve ridiculously decided to wait in a line for that long
Same I used to work at Walmart , the customer thinks they know more then you and go "well you have to have " or "you do this"
They act as if you made the product or promo and you should take the blame
Don't blame us that a huge company can't seem to organize what should of been a easy grab and go
I work in retail as well. Sure, the employees aren't deserving of these people screaming at them, but it's kinda expected if they were waiting hours in the heat. Being uncomfortable, tired, sweaty, in pain, etc. can make people snappy. That being said, I don't think these people deserve pity for stupidly waiting that long for a stuffed animal. I'm just saying that it's gonna happen regardless given the circumstances.
@@Saturnthroughstars weren't the customers waiting AFTER it was canceled? i'm still mad at the higher ups for being irresponsible tho.
@@tomtinker8220 Were they? Didn't know about that part if true.
Exactly. In their position, I wouldn't have even gotten in line. I'd have turned around and left right away. Like. "Sorry kids, Mommy loves you but she isn't going to make you wait in this line. Let's go to another toy store."
Really shows how low us humans will go just to save a few bucks "People have been waiting for 7 hours!" That's no one else's fault but your own if your time is worth saving 10-20 dollars that's on you. Just look at gas stations with a line of 30+ cars just because the gas is 3 cents cheaper.
I just realized that it wasn't Build-A-Bear's decision to close their stores and cancel the sale. It says right at the beginning of that Facebook post that local police departments demanded that they cancel the sale and shut it down, probably due to public safety concerns.
@Alfie Stott I thought it happened in the UK first then this followed after?
You know, if your child is like, three or under (maybe even four), you could take them down to any dollar store, or plush toy store, and get them a stuffed animal there (even buy an outfit meant for a baby doll, etc). Your child will be just as happy and won't know the difference, and likely won't even remember the experience at that age anyway. Heck, I was happy with Goodwill toys when I was little. Buy a plush, dress it up, boom!
Anna N. What kid wouldn't like Goodwill? You can find neat stuff there.

When considering a deal you have to ask yourself "How much is my time worth?"
For a $35 savings let's say you earn $12 per hour. You only get a savings if you get the product in under 3 hours. Less if you consider the hassle your undertaking for free.
As the parent of a < 2 year-old, I wouldn't have brought my toddler in that heat stroke inducing cesspool of germs for a 33$ discount and, had I done so, I would have turned back around the moment I laid eyes on the stupid amount of people waiting outside. It's just not worth it!
Had it been a 330$ discount, I might have waited alone and called my wife so they would join me when I'm near the door, but even then it's probably not worth it.
Also, the video clips of the children clearly suffering from the heat and lack of stimulation are horrible..!!

Kid: I WANT MY BEAR-
Me: WELL YOU NEED TO WAIT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE!
*_I WANT MY BEAR!_*
Xd
Build a bear: please insert 8 hours in line
I’d take the kids to another store for a bear or just order one online. I’d use the time I was gonna spend in line and go take them to Chuck E. Cheese or something
11:14 I actually thought that was Chadtronic saying "Charmander" but no that's actually what it sounded like...
H O L Y F R I C K
i thought he was saying the charmander too XD
CHAR... MANDER. CH-CH...CHARMAN-DER-ER
Same lmao

CWhaarmAnDDORRR
When I heard the Charmander I thought it was you making the noises until you explained
Me also

Parents in 10 mile line:this is fine
Parents 1 mile later:I can’t f@&$ing believe this s$@&!!!!!!!
im a fetus gimme all of your stock now for free.
The bears themselves are almost worthless only about 2 dollars. All the profits come from clothing and accessories. My wife worked a summer at build a bear.
Yes. Your "wife".
Ampharosite yeah I’m sorry your not fortunate enough to have what people call a “relationship” with something other then their right hand.
Yeah it's a scam my parents would never let me get one when I was little lol
lol

So one could make their own clothes for a teddy bear? Just asking.
I just feel sorry for the minimum wage employees who are forced to deal with all these wailing miserable children and their psychotic mothers who all expect your going to move heaven and earth just so they can get "their" little brat a 4$ bear. like good god I could never work at a place like that.
curtis brown did/do you work at builder Barr’s you seem like you have experienced this or did you work somewhere else just askin?
It killed the spirits if their workers. My gf works at one and i know ppl from 5 different locations; they expected big crowds but not like that. They LOVED working there and now theyre crushed and dread going back because even in december theyre still dealing with the consequences
MY HOME I can agree with this completely. Loved it and I still do but after the sale it just hasn’t been the same.
J Tizzle are you three?
@@applejambers7674 builder barr's. builder. barr's.
i cant
That intro was well done because it invoked a very strong feeling of anxiety in me.
"And get it for a SWEET DEAL!"
It wasn’t really a scam, It was an idea with good intentions but it just ended up not working well.
It's a scam because the child has to pay not the adult Which meant the bears all went for 29 doll.ars
@@MattStMarie-bm5sq don't tell me they actually tried pulling that
it was a such a horribly flawed idea that someone who knows nothing about marketing can poke atleast 50 holes in it
@@darknes4150 They didn't, he has no idea what he's talking about. Many people got their $3 bears.
So, Tanacon?
And now the Dark Nightgob hype begins! Can’t wait to see it!
Yes!!🦃🦃🦃
Which is more anticipated? Super Smash Bros Ultimate or one turkey boi
Did he buy Charmander tho?
@@flowtyle fricking normie
braden arcader what are you talking about im not a normie
Other parents: Oh sure we can wait in the longest line you’ve ever seen in your life!
My parents: LOL no
Workers having to deal with a giant mod.
"How unprofessional"
Like you could deal with em all on your own lady!
Sad that the adults threw tantrums while their children are calm and patience. Also if I was interviewed about the event. I would have some fun by making bear puns. "The situation is unBEARable" "
You wouldn't have been interviewed. That's not how mainstream news works. They only take the most horrible which in this case the best overly dramatic will do for their needs.
Hahaha 😂 Love it.
Insert rim shot *100*
ye
@@vintagesavvymomma IDK about you but if I was a news station I'd totally include that quip
I liked the grown adults yelling at the store employees, as if it was the employees' fault that so many people were there.
And I saw some of those families had like 5 children with them. You think MAYBE the families who brought every kid with them, who probably didn't already have a bear picked out, contributed to the lengthy wait time? Either way, the poor store employees aren't to blame for a thousand people showing up for this poorly thought-out promotion, stop yelling at them.
And like Chad said... you could just leave. Why would wait in line for 6 hours for a bear, whether you had a little kid with you or not? Like, you could go work minimum wage somewhere and earn all the money you'd need to pay for a full price bear in that timeframe. Also the bears/stuff that isn't bears aren't even that great quality anymore, definitely not worth it.
Banjo Peppers It's like "Tanacon Jr." but worse since Build-A-Bear is more professional and the supposed "victims" are old enough to know better than to put their children through this mess.
@@jenneacoleman-cubero2365
What's Tanacon Jr. ?????
I have build a bears from the last few years. They're not bad quality, but not amazing.
I am from from the future and you will make a part 2.
Toad ab no your not this comment was from after the video was released
You can say that both of us are in the future.
Oh yea I forgot
At least you know😇

dude I found this found in Nov. and I was surprised when I heard him say "Thanks Giving week"
My kids wanted to go, however living in rural Maine that meant an hour and a half drive to the closest BAB. I said no and that was the end of that. I'm so happy I was too lazy to drive because it was an utter crapfest. We went that day to our local Goodwill and snagged 3 BAB animals (two bunnies and a leopard) for under $10.
I live in rural maine too and going anywhere is like an hour ride
Yeah, you could easily get a BAB or another toy in another toy shop.
What a steal oml
@@DCNRS90YT you don't get the experience and you don't build it yourself
Bless you, you wise parent
It took me a bit too long to realize that wasn't him excited for Charmander but an actual recording of the Charmander toy. Even Ash would've been like, "Good Call, Damien" on a Charmander that sounded like that.
XD
Lmao! Same!
right lmao i thought that was just him doing a charmander sound until he started talking about it 😂😂
If the recordings sounded that bad they would have been better off with no sound.
after a long while of owning a charmander it sounds like a mini gun shooting the letters ch
