Playing For Change (PFC) is a movement created to inspire and connect the world through music, born from the shared belief that music has the power to break down boundaries and overcome distances between people. The primary focus of PFC is to record and film musicians performing in their natural environments and combine their talents and cultural power in innovative videos called Songs Around The World. Creating these videos motivated PFC to form the Playing For Change Band-a tangible, traveling representation of its mission, featuring musicians met along their journey; and establish the Playing For Change Foundation-a separate 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building music and art schools for children around the world. Through these efforts, Playing For Change aims to create hope and inspiration for the future of our planet.

55, year's ago almost, in London, a young man, sang this to me, It was a love song I thought, and I was too shy, and too afraid to tell him I wanted to be friends, I never realized how famous this song was,

This Brazilian-American loves the Cuban culture and am deeply sad for the state of affairs in their country right now. The situation is dire - as is in many other parts of the world but still... And yes, your words are so true.

Jose Marti was born in January 28 1853 , when he was 17 years old , he was exiled from Cuba, by the Spanish government, for being active in the Cuban librarition movement . He came back to Cuba in 1894 at age 42 , and started frighting for Cuba independent. He was the greatest writer in the Spanish language. He wrote over 70 books , poetrys , his last pome was Guatanamera. With in a year he will be killed in a filed uprising. In Guantanamera my favorite verse is , a mountain stream pleased me more then the ocean. Thank you Sarah.

    • @reimontube75
      @reimontube75 3 years ago +16

No, José Martí is not the author of Guantanamera.
The Guantanamera was composed by Joseíto Fernández and in it he included some verses from the poetry of "Versos Sencillos" by José Martí. One of the qualities of this great composition by Joseito is the freedom he gave to improvise and harmonize different poetic texts. (ruclips.net/video/9Hk1y3Gh4KE/video.html) *Original Version with his own lyrics.

    • @timwilde4200
      @timwilde4200 2 years ago +9

@reimontube75 Yeah, I was wondering about that. I first heard 'Guantanamera' many many years ago and fell in love with the song - to me, it's almost the defacto national anthem for Cuba in the same way that 'Waltzing Matilda' is for my Australian homeland.
You're only partially correct in terms of the history of the song as we know it today. It was Julián Orbón, a Cuban composer from later years, who gave the song a new layer by incorporating some of the poetry ofJosé Martí. In its original form Joseíto Fernández, who was a radio identity in Cuba, used the melody he created to weave in lyrics that reflected current events of the day. The song was so strongly identified with him that he didn't even try filing a copyright for it till many years later.
As for the OP's claim that Marti was the greatest writer in the Spanish language, many would argue the more plausible case for great writers such as Miguel de Cervantes or contemporary authors like Gabriel Garcia Marquez. There's no denying his standing in Cuba culturally, not least his significant role as a martyr for the cause of independence, but claiming he was the greatest writer in the language is stretching things a bit.

    • @reimontube75
      @reimontube75 2 years ago +2

HI@timwilde4200 Gracias por tu añadido y explicación. Y sí, tampoco quise entrar a discutir sobre la exageración del OP's sobre la grandeza de Martí dentro de la literatura en Español.

As a Canadian who visited Cuba for five-years in a row from 1993 to 19997 in our northern wintertime, I must say that this is one of the best versions of Guantanamera that I have come across. In my and my mom and dad's first visit to Varadero in early-winter of 1993 in Varadero we stayed at the Tuxpan Hotel where we got a feel for what is was like to stay and get used to the local environment of a sub-tropical country. Aside from Guantanamera, the most requested song, by my Mom, of course, was Besame Mucho by the four-some who walked around the dining room floor for supper entertaining the guests.
After all these years, I still cannot believe that the USA government has not normalized relations with the Cuban government. Sad story. Viva Cuba!

They do not put their lives on risk, they send people who dont know each other to die for them in wars that I repeat, only benifits themselves. Wake up people, please.

America Centrale: Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panamá, Nicaragua e finalmente America del Sur (America Meridionale): Perú, Colombia, Ecuador, Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brasil, Bolivia e Argentina, spero non dimenticare un altro paese.

@lauramilagros5472in Ybor City, Tampa there is a tiny Park, owned by Cuba. Jose Marti lived in Ybor City before he traveled to Cuba. Teddy Roosevelts Rough Riders were assembled here during the Spanish American War. Many Tampanians were part of his company. Many of them were born in Spain. Jose Marti 's statue stands in the middle of the park, his arm outstretched . His arm has been repeatedly broken by vandals. Some believe the perpetrators to be some of the 400 Cuban spies known to operate in the US at any time! My son who is now nearly 40y.o, called it broken arm park when he was about 5. The first recording of the song dates to 1929. Coincidence, I was just looking for Pete Seeger music today, Good Night Irene!

Lyrics from a Jose Marti poem....
    About Guantanamera
"Guantanamera" (Spanish: "from Guantánamo, feminine" indicating a woman from Guantánamo) is perhaps the best known Cuban song and that country's most noted patriotic song, especially when using a poem by the Cuban poet José Martí for the lyrics.
The official writing credits have been given to Joseíto Fernández, who first popularized the song on radio as early as 1929 (although it is unclear when the first release as a record occurred).
In 1966, a version by American vocal group the Sandpipers, based on an arrangement by the Weavers from their May 1963 Carnegie Hall Reunion concert, became an international hit.
    Guantanamera
    Guajira Guantanamera
    Guantanamera
    Guajira guantanamera
Now after they would sing a chorus of that They would start doing poetry. This is one of the verses from a famous poet and revolutionary José Martí
    Yo soy un hombre sincero
    De donde crece la palma
    Yo soy un hombre sincero
    De donde crece le palma
Y antes de morirme quiero, mira
Echar mis versos del alma, hey hey
    Guantanamera
    Guajira Guantanamera
    Guantanamera
    Guajira Guantanamera
    Guantanamera
    Guajira Guantanamera
    Epa hey
    Upa
    Hey
Óyeme guajira tú sabes que yo te quiero
Porque yo por ti me muero
    Óyeme gózalo
    Guajira Guajira
    Guantanamera
    Cuéntalo cuéntalo
    Óyeme Guantanamera Guajira
    Hey hey hey
Oye Guajira mira no me dejes soloMira que me desespero
    Óyeme Guajira Guajira
    Hey hey
    Guantanamera
    Guantanamera
    Oye guajira mmm, mm
Con los pobres de la tierra
    Quiero yo
    Mi suerte echar
    Oye guajira
    Guajira Guantanamera
    Yeah yeah yeah
