Thanks Thomas the second one did come out and looked better. It would of been better to paint the cookie man. The cookie man did have some warpage on the legs. It was a fun project. thanks for watching
Yup, even the weight of HDPE, and even cake batter, has warpage in the silicone molds. They are bearly strong enough to stand on their own if not for the structure of the to surface. The sides have always bowed out when I put anything in them. Nothing a sanding belt couldn't fix in your case. Just have to work through the grits fron likely 120 on up to 1200 or so for a better finish. Looks good mate.
Sorry for the late reply, Using Silicone molds i have had success and failures. It really depends on the type of Plastic and number of uses that you are trying for.. This mold that the Cookie Man was in lasted about 3 or 3 molds then the silicone started to break.. Hope that helps.. Thank you for watching Kevin
RThis is such an awesome idea. I save the rings that keep the plastic lid on the bottle but can't use it for the project i planned so was looking for another use.
Thanks Draco It is fun to do things with the plastic. Reatively it is a free substance to acquire. So you can use as much or little as you like. The more we repurpose less for the tip.. It is sunny Queensland Thanks for watching
Thanks James Comstock. The idea was not to put the plastic waste product that we use every day back into land fill but repurpose it. There was no new plastic that went into making the cookie man all came from the plastic waste. Thanks for watching Kevin
your vids saved some painful experience to start homemade hdpe recycling. After watching your vids i start to wonder how to make a hdpe lid into a 30% bigger lid with much lower edge so that i can make two of these and glue them to become a flat hollow enclosure. Thanks for your vids.
Kuan Yes some people say that my videos are painful experience to sit though. Thanks for doing that. Hdpe is one of the harder plastics to glue. I am not saying that it is impossible to glue. You will have to do your homework in researching this. This is one of the things that i will have to do a video on Thanks for watching
Great Video... You could make them about 1/4 as thick and add a magnet to the back when it's still hot just push it in a little... Making a refrigerator magnet...
Z71Ranger I am not sure how securely a magnet will stick. This type of plastic is difficult to stick at the best of times. Since the plastic is hot that is all we may need. It is worth trying. Thank you for the idea and thanks for watching. Kevin ps now have facebook group search for Kevs Modelling Channel
The cookie man flooting in the bathtub totally reminded me of that scene from Breaking Bad...you know, after the plane crash? Creepy 😁. One might get a pretty result with flower molds, though. I would have never guessed, that you can simply melt that stuff in the oven!
Rara Even my Easter Bunny was floating in the bath when i got out last night. I was washing it thought after sanding with wet and dry Thanks for watching
Where the man now On display? You made more? they be cool gift to give to the family, since you recycled it you didn't have to pay 😃 Save money and time xmas shopping lol
Sorry for the late reply It is not a quick process to create, i would say about 2 - 3 hours. The plastic has to melt and flow in to the mould this takes time. To much heat you end up burning the project, what i call baconing effect Thanks for watching
To tell you the truth i dont know exactly what they came from. I can only guess on that one. My best guess they are ointment caps. There is a company in Brisbane called Reverse Garbage this is where I filled a bag almost full with other stuff as well all for $15 dollars. This is copied from there website Reverse Garbage Queensland is a not-for-profit worker run co-operative that promotes environmental sustainability and resource reuse. We collect high quality industrial discards, diverting them away from landfill and sell them at a low cost to the general public Thanks for watching contact via Fb Kevs Modelling Channel kevin
Hello London Boi Depending on which type of hdpe plastic we are talking about. Not all hdpe is made the same. Depending on how they manufacture of the compoent being made. Blow moulding will require a thicker plastic in it melted form. Where as plastic Injection will require a runner plastic in it melted form.. So yes HDPE will flow in to a mould given enough time. Milk lids would be my choice. Even LDPE lids will flow because they have be made by Plastic injection thanks for watching
Well you could but it would be wise to have a seperate oven. The plastic does drop little bits on the bottom of the oven. It is best practice not to use one that you are planing to eat from. thanks for watching
I had been useing the family oven for little while when i first started. My wife was not thrilled so we bought a small toaster oven. It was a better choice it was only 35 dollars at kmart in brisbane australia
Yes and no depending. To have a Successful mold you will need a mold release agent and then it may work. I have been useing large stainless pots as my containers. I have not been useing a mold release and they have been releasing and then sticking. Because of the size of the pot the plastic contract and release. Wish you luck. Thanks for watching. Sorry for late reply Kev.
Thanks Joel for the question .. What i have found is that with plastic injection objects. The plastic has to conform to a certain flow rate to be able to be injected in to the mold. Blow molded plastic does not flow it is way to thick to be used in this manner .. Plastic manufactures add in different proprieties for how they want plastic to behave. Thanks for watching Kevin
Hello Lila . I am not sure what the lids originally come from. I went to a recycle centre and they had some these lids. But they are HDPE plastic Thanks for Watching
Hey Lexie Depending on what type of plastic that you are looking at.. Here i am melting HDPE around 180deg/c this works for this plastic. The key is not to burn the plastic have a look at guidelines online for the type temp the plastic can with stand.
WARNING: You must wear a proper GAS VAPOUR RESPIRATOR when messing around with plastic. The fumes given off are neurotoxic. Thanks for the video. I've been using the sandwich press method, but I want to try melting HDPE into DIY polymer clay molds.
Anthony Thanks for watching. Just remember the mould will only most likely get only 1 use depending on the object that is designed in the mould. The plastic will have a shrink factor. I had a few attempts with this silcone mould before the mould started to stick and break. Keen to see the results of your attempt Kev
Legos are not made of PE, there for they will not mix with one another as not all pieces are made of the same plastic, the standard/typical bricks are made from ABS which melt at a different temp than PE or PP.
Where are you from? I'm thinking about the same thing. But I wonder if the making part isn't only the smallest problem. I think that selling for a price which for both sides (maker and buyer) is attractive is a much bigger problem. Or am I wrong?
Thanks for sharing this video. It's good to know that silicone molds can be used for HDPE melting projects.
This was so helpful! I’ve been wanting to try recycling plastic by melting down into a mold. Thank you!!
My pleasure Kaitlyn Wade have a look at my hand video you may like that as well

The experiment was a success, but that is one deranged looking cookie man. The follow-up specimen looks loads better.

"Wanna go for a swim, Mr Bill?"
.. "Oh! NOOOoooo!"
Robert Cartier Haha! I thought the same thing.
Robert Cartier Looks like poor Mr. Bill has been in an accident while skinny dipping lol
Oh poor Mr. Bill. 😒😂
Thank you for the video, I have been considering using silicone molds but wasn't sure how well they would work.

Haha! Mr. Bill. I laughed when you threw him in the tub.
Like a horror movie doll,
_"This time he's running..._ *after YOU!"* 😱🤣😆🤣
Okay...why? They would be good Halloween party trinkets. Great idea using a silicon mold for HDPE!
I love that you didnt tell your children to go away. I am going to try making something like this soon.
RThis is such an awesome idea. I save the rings that keep the plastic lid on the bottle but can't use it for the project i planned so was looking for another use.
Good on you mate! Love from Auckland!
Thanks Draco

A cookie man straight out of a Stephen King novel put that plastic man in a landfill and it will be here for a million years interesting
Thanks James Comstock.

Nice result! Thank you!
You should market them I'm sure you'd sell millions.

Neodymium are powerful enough but yes you may want to push it in so the plastic wraps around the edge for best result.

Cool project... but that thing is terrifying haha
Good job!
Look really cool😃
Thanks! 😄
Where the man now On display?
You made more? they be cool gift to give to the family, since you recycled it you didn't have to pay 😃
Save money and time xmas shopping lol
It's better first melting plastic than casting in silicone mold
would love to see you cast hdpe without compromising the plastic
I like the fact that it's so deranged looking
U make good videos. Keep it up!
how long it takes to make one cooky man.I mean how long you put it in an ovan
I haven't done it yet
Sorry for the late reply

Are you using an microwave oven or an oven??
A tad terrifying
Thanks for the nightmares! It looks like the Devil's child lol - jk - great job!
Thank you ...
If i had the devil's child i could coat him in plastic
Nice! what temp are you using on your oven?
The temp is about 180/degc
You need to bake these in a vacuum.
This is so 😎 I love it
Thank you for your kind words..
hello small question, do you believe melting the plastic into the oven will make the oven no longer safe to cook food in?
I like to say thanks for watching. I would insist that you use a separate small toaster oven.. For your safety..
Cool. 😎👍
Add some hooks and you get a fishing lure ...
I'm seeing a Christmas tree full of cute things for the kids to love
this is awesome
Thank you for your kind thoughts
So funny I have these clear boxes I melted and they turn when when hot so reverse 😂
Hello i just found your video and i was wondering the white caps are from what?

Does the HDPE flow into the mold? I saw another video where it was much harder and had to be pressed down.
Hello London Boi
Depending on which type of hdpe plastic we are talking about. Not all hdpe is made the same. Depending on how they manufacture of the compoent being made. Blow moulding will require a thicker plastic in it melted form. Where as plastic Injection will require a runner plastic in it melted form..

Kevs Modelling Channel Thanks for the quick reply, I was also going to use lids.
PE is most commonly injection molded, used to make dimension lumber for a recycling company.
I use talcum powder for a mold release... hmmm
Is that a conure I hear?
فكرة روعة 😱🎉🎉🎉🎉
Hi,Can I use the same oven to make food and HDPE?
Well you could but it would be wise to have a seperate oven. The plastic does drop little bits on the bottom of the oven. It is best practice not to use one that you are planing to eat from.
thanks for watching
well,thx :)because i have only one oven,lol
I had been useing the family oven for little while when i first started. My wife was not thrilled so we bought a small toaster oven. It was a better choice it was only 35 dollars at kmart in brisbane australia
thx for ur advice,i will ask my wife:)
You can get a used toaster oven at a yard sale or thrift store for $5.00 or less all the time... You may even get a free one...LOL
Can you a regular metal cake pan ?
Yes and no depending. To have a Successful mold you will need a mold release agent and then it may work. I have been useing large stainless pots as my containers. how can you make the plastic so liquid?
Thanks Joel for the question .. What i have found is that with plastic injection objects. The plastic has to conform to a certain flow rate to be able to be injected in to the mold. What kind of lids are those?
Hello Lila .
I am not sure what the lids originally come from. I went to a recycle centre and they had some these lids. But they are HDPE plastic
Thanks for Watching
Ghb bottle i rekkon
what temp do you cook this at ?
Hey Lexie
Depending on what type of plastic that you are looking at..
Here i am melting HDPE around 180deg/c this works for this plastic.
The key is not to burn the plastic have a look at guidelines online for the type temp the plastic can with stand.
Try using a tripod

I'm looking for a partner to make gifts in resin and wood, its a big business,

The second one looks female
How? 😂😂
