    The reason for shutting ignition off is the oil goes away from the pick up in oil pan under deceleration. We only run 4 1/2 qts. of oil to keep the windage down.

      Yeah a little oil in an engine, revving that high??? you're kidding us correct?????

      No kidding. These small tricks like running as little oil as possible is how these super stock motors run so fast with limited rules. I built this engine in 2007. Iron head 186 heads, 302 based on 69 z/28 combo. Has run 9.80's @ 3120lbs. I still have this one as a spare.

    probably to keep the fuel sloshing in the bowls from making the engine run super fat and fouling plugs during decel. no one wants to change plugs after every run.

  • @oDJOldskull
    @oDJOldskull 11 лет назад +1

    You kill the ignition after the run in order to make the engine run shortest time possible ? :)

      Shut down immediately to check burn on plugs

    Hey can anyone please tell me what the deal is with turning the car off after rolling thru the traps only to restart the car to get back to your pit ???? Hey guy's ALL the engine's I've ever built were ALWAYS equipped with crank scraper's windage pan's & none to cheap deep Trap door oil pan's So engine oil was NEVER EVER a concern as it's the life blood of every motor .But hey I guess some guys just have odd habits they picked up along the way from some old timer ...

      good question.i never shut one down.you gonna get your biggest wear on cranking it,but sure times have changed since i raced 40 yrs ago.i quit racing when how fast you want to go depended on how much you wanted to spend

      @GeneSun Yep same here try to stay at 150 in staging lanes then not get above 200 on return road , but it's a battle
