Yes, pricing can be a challenge. I am a vendor at two local farmers markets and some people walk away. I'm not federally subsidized to be able to compete with Walmart and I don't pay someone below minimum wage to work for me. It's just me. Overall, at the markets I probably make $2/hour to sell organic, chemical-free produce. The money I earn makes enough for new winter clothing for my kids, modest birthday gifts and seeds or fruit trees for next year....sometimes a tank of gas.
Well let's all set the intention to change that😊 I am always sharing information with people to help them feed their body better and farmers market is a major way to do that❤
I have found those who do not "make" things do the most complaining on prices. No, we are not Walmart nor do we "make" Walmart quality AND there is no Dollar Store for fabric. The quick fix, disposable people I don't think are too self sufficient... in my humble opinion. I use to do craft fairs until too many vendors brought in nothing but mass production items. And to watch shoppers opt for cheap rather than quality and creativity. There is just no competing with that working for free.
Sometimes it helps of you have a simple breakdown, such as the weight of the completed project X the price per pound of materials (yarn, for example), the number to stitches per inch, and an average number of stitches per hour….since it can be hard to guess how long it takes to complete a project-especially with interruptions-a rough concept of how many stitches are in a piece can give you an idea of about how many hours are in it. Then you can say well, the materials cost roughly so many dollars and the project takes roughly this much time, so paying a skilled artist to work this many hours and using this much product…yes, that’s how much it costs. If I wanted to give it away, I would give it to friends and family. No offense taken. Most people who are going to say “Wow, that’s a lot of money!” will not say “You shouldn’t pay someone minimum wage to make this!” If they do, don’t worry about such a person.
There is something so comforting about the consistency of the colors you wear in your videos, matching the colors of your opening screen. Another lovely video. Thanks for the educational video!
I truly do appreciate that others not only notice but also enjoy my use of colors like I do. I like using different colors and making sure not to have videos too close together with the same color thumbnails. I actually plan everything out so the colors land a certain way in the list of videos :)
A simple pricing formula: Minimum wage x hours worked per project = A Cost of supplies = B A + B = C C x 2.5 = retail cost, that you can then adjust up or down according to your market... If you are able to make multiple items in that time frame then divide retail price by how many pieces you made...
Thank you for all your hard work, Heidi! We love you! I appreciate your honesty and boldness to speak out about these platforms behaving badly the way they do! Keep up the great work and continue doing what you do so well!
Just this last weekend I picked a quart of elderberries and made them all into syrup that has most of the spices and herbs that you mentioned. I will be giving most of the syrup to friends and family as gifts.
@@Greenacres1958 Most all gifts that I give are homemade, from tinctures, jams, jellies, fresh garden items, homemade breads from fresh ground grains, wood and or metal crafted items, etc.. And I never wait for special occasions to give gifts, and they usually know what they are getting ahead of time and very thankfully they will make and gift items back to me.
I have elderberry syrup made, but I had forgotten my ginger/lemon/garlic in honey antibiotic, and, around the grands, got sick...feeling better already, 2 days of colloidal silver, and my honey antibiotic. Praying you fell better soon, and thank you so much!!
I take a dropper of Elderberry tincture every night. I rarely get sick. My sister in law also used my tincture she has found that as soon as she gets a cough she just takes a dropper and it is instantly gone. I also take 3 cloves of raw garlic a day and some turmeric and pepper in my food daily which also eliminated the need for pain pills for my arthritis. Love your Chanel. ❤🙏
I’ve made the elderberry syrup with all the same ingredients you used, except the orange peel, I keep it in the fridge. I think I will start the tincture today, Good Lord willing, and have something not dependent on refrigeration.
I found one of your long playlists and just let it play today while I was working the farm. Every time I came inside, I made sure to hit the like button on whatever was playing. Building up those view hours!!
Again as always, thank you Heidi for all that your share with us. Your wealth of knowledge and experience on many topics/areas as well as speaking out about your faith. ML and prayers for you and Patrick and your family, channel,
I just made two quarts of elderberry tincture with some dried elderberries I had purchased. This year I found out that those pretty white flowers that were growing in our back yard were elderberries. I have been harvesting them and freezing them. I want to try making some elderberry wine. I was going to make mead but my honey supply is low and I don't want to waste it. Love your videos.
Tom and I both swear by nebulizing H2O2, anytime anything is threatening our lungs, or sinuses. Has kept us clear when others around us have had stuff (even like recent viruses 😉) develop into pneumonia. He worked in the test cell (firing up jet engines), in the Air Force and for a major airline, for years....and has inhaled all sorts of stuff! So his lungs have been a bit "abused"! God has been very merciful! Thank you for the video! Praying you're completely over all the yuck! God bless! 🥰
Darlene, My wife bought a nebulizer, but we couldn’t find out from anyone what to put in it. We were told that you have to get a saline solution from a hospital??? We didn’t understand (even after trying to get instruction from a nurse friend who sounded clueless) so it’s been in a box for years. Do we just put water in it? If so, how long should we breathe in it, etc? Thank you, in advance, for instructions. We are old, but our goal is to stay away from going to the doctor as much as we can. Thank you and God bless you!
We purchased two types of elderberry bushes, this spring. Can’t wait until they produce berries so I can make this tincture and some syrup! Thanks Heidi! Feel better soon!
I love my honey/garlic ferment. Thank you for this great video on the elderberry tincture vs elderberry syrup. I think I will have both on hand for this coming season. ❤
Oh no! Your voice sounds like mine! I had been keeping my 9-year-old grandson for 2-1/2 weeks, and got sick right at the end. It's been tough getting through it, but I'm so thankful that it didn't go down into my lungs like usual! As it was, I ended up having to call my grandson's school to tell them he wasn't coming in, because papaw said I shouldn't drive! Which was true!
For the lungs , I've had several asthma . The amino acid Nac , or cysteine . With CoQ10 , as Ubiqunol .I use Jarrow and take up to three throughout the day . Really helps with peppermint oil and thyme as a tea . Thankyou for this vidios and all you share.

Hi Heidi. I haven’t seen you for a while because I honestly was busy with my own life, but I love your skirts and I love your videos and I love you! God bless you real good! like my grandma always said😊
I just checked the link for your sweaters and they are gorgeous! I think you should start wearing them again. I have not crocheted in a long time but may try making one. Thanks for sharing and God bless.
How did I miss this video?! I'll tell ya, I'm still trying to find my groove since the passing of my mom. I do the milk kefir and I know you can also dehydrate the milk kefir grains if you want to take a break. But I have to admit...I've left mine in the fridge for over 2 months, possible 3 with no issues. But like you said, the flavor is different than yogurt. In regards to the sewing.....I pray that more people will give it try to make their own. It's such an important task to learn and it's calming for the mind. As for the prices.....many will never ever get it. We as a society expect cheap prices. 😢 Thanks again for another great video and I'm sure you are feeling a lot better by now. God bless!!

I have a question. I haven’t heard you discuss this. How did your older hens, who had lived a life without a rooster, adapt to the introduction of a rooster to the flock? My older girls are having a very hard time. Particularly one who has become his favorite. Hearing your experience would be helpful.
Thank you so much for these informative videos. Just in time for colds and flu. Going to make jars for my adult children. It might help me because they always bring me their sick kids! And so, it goes...
The chicks weren't that loud and I didn't even notice them till your message showed up. I love the sound of baby chick's so that's probably why I didn't notice.
Appreciate everything you share with us! You have inspired, for years now, me in more ways than I can say!! My question: can it use frozen elderberries in the tincture or do they need to be dehydrated? Thank you again and God Bless! 💜
I personally would not use frozen unless I dried them first. One thing about dried is that they will not add water to the tincture thus thinning it out.
I make large cuddle quilts & it cost me about $100.00 just for the meteral, then my time. They want to pay $30.00 for them & get mad when I'm not excited nor take their offer .
Because people just have no clue of what it really costs due to buying cheap Chinese made products from Walmart and Target. I have seen queen size quilts made in China for only $30 that include quilted pillow covers yet as you mentioned, the cost of fabrics alone to make something like that would be at the very least $100 not to mention the hours and hours of time. Even those that may understand the cost of materials still think you should do the work for free or for pennies per hour. I ask them "Would you put in that many hours at your day job and not expect to be paid for your time?"
Is there any advantages to using a tincture or syrup versus just brewing a cup of tea? When not feeling up to snuff I usually just throw whatever sounds good into a tea ball and it seems to be very effective. The last time I had Covid (June) I did dried elderberries, cinnamon stick, clove, and star anise. Then when the tea cooled off I added some high grade manuka honey. It worked really well! Feel better, I hope you are getting some extra rest today!🙏
For the most part it is up to the person's preference. While I do occasionally add elderberries to my teas, I am just not crazy about the flavor, and as far as a sore throat and cough goes, the tincture as a spray is far more effective and immediate
@@RainCountryHomestead thanks for answering! For me, star anise knocks the pain right out of a sore throat and if it's really bad I add clove. So we are using the same things, just in different forms. Take care and God Bless you ❤️
I take it whenever I have any kind of stress, injury, loss of sleep etc. Because I know these have all preceded infectious illness for me. If you catch it early, you barely even get sick and anything you get is much milder than it would be if you are not diligent in catching it early.
Yes, that is why did mention taking early when we feel something coming on as that typically stops it in its tracks. However, we were enjoying our time with family and the possibility of getting sick was simply not at the forefront of my mind as it is just not common for us
@@RainCountryHomestead Yes can't always catch it early its impossible. Sometimes I will take elderberry if I am anticipating close contact with the outside world in the future a few days ahead of time. Especially if they have children because I know children are often carrying infections, since they often go to public school and are exposed to the public
Fabulous video ...thank you 💯 Heidi... I've a few of your videos to catch up on 😁 time seems to have run away with me lately 🙃... Can I use my picked but frozen elderberries after defrosting of course for my tincture? 💐🙏🏼
That is one I have not had a chance to research yet though I may so in the future and if I do, I will put together a video on it. Until then, try doing a search, I am sure you will find a lot of great information

God bless and take care❣️🙏✝️🙏❣️
I’m making elderberry tincture tomorrow with my homemade blackberry wine. We will see.
My instapot has a yogurt setting.
Was that dried mullein leaf or the flowers? Thanks for great info!
leaf
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you!
Take care and God Bless you ❤️
I didn’t even realize it was your chicks I thought it was just birds chirping outside my window
For a beginner who has to choose, would you recommend learning to crochet or to knit?
It is really all up to the person but my preference is crochet. Some find it easier as it only involves one hook rather than two needles
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks!
Hope that your husband is able to keep up on the daily mullein tinctures, I know it will do him a lot of good 🙏
Your awesome 👏
When you tincture, do you worry about the small little pieces of the branch that hold the berries on?
No, I do not
@@RainCountryHomestead Thank you Heidi.
🎉
Thank you!
Would you mind sharing the benefits of jewel weed?
That is one I have not had a chance to research yet though I may so in the future and if I do, I will put together a video on it. Until then, try doing a search, I am sure you will find a lot of great information
